Portland, Oregon’s Best Mexican Restaurants and Food Carts | Eater Portland

"Crispy tortilla tubes stuffed with potatoes are the name of the game at Tito’s, arriving smothered in creamy avocado salsa and a choice of protein — it’s best to opt for the saucy braised beef or citrusy pork. Order the taquitos “with everything,” which includes a pile of shredded cabbage, pickled onions, radish, cilantro, and a hearty handful of queso fresco. If there’s saturated tres leches cake, topped with fresh berries, it’d be sacrilege to go without. Tito’s also recently opened a location in Beaverton at 12406 SW Broadway Street. Both spots accept online orders."

Absolutely delicious potato taquitos topped with tender meats! Reminds me of home cooking, but better (don’t tell Abuelita). Handmade tortillas on the tacos which were also delicious. I can’t wait to come back and try more!

I think this is a great lunch place to grab a quick meal, but be forewarned that the value proposition is not the best. Got the potato taquitos with beef and overall was very pleased, but the price of $15 was a bit steep to me given the meal. Service was great and helped me with my questions. Inside is clean and looks good considering the industrial area it is in.

On Wednesday, we made a detour to Tito’s Taquitos Swan Island in N Portland. This was a clean, quick and friendly lunch spot located in the Swan Island industrial area. They have indoor and outdoor seating, with lots of parking. My husband ordered one rib eye taco on blue corn tortilla, one garlic butter shrimp taco and 4 crispy hand-rolled potato filled taquitos topped with braised beef. They also offered green, red, or habanero sauces. Each bite has their flavor, texture, components and the balance to satisfy our taste, we love it.

Friendly service with a surprise selection of vegan ( if you’re into that) tacos. The food is well prepared and presented . Hand made tortillas!

Went on a Saturday - tons of parking available in the lot and we were able to sit at their outdoor tables. Very kind and attentive service - thank you! The food was stellar and we will be back. All the taquitos are filled potatoes, and you can get toppings added if you like. We got the shrimp taquitos and we’re not disappointed. Plenty of big, juicy, flavorful tail-on shrimps cooked in garlic - yum! We also got the rib eye taco and fish taco - they ask if you’d like your rib eye medium rare or well done and we opted for medium rare but follow your heart of course! Delicious tacos and that fish taco was the best I’ve had in years! Both tacos were on fresh made tortillas, with the rib eye being presented on a beautiful blue corn tortilla. We were given an array of salsas and that orange habanero is no joke - delightful spice! The green was nice and mild but still delicious flavor. Everything was awesome - including the folks working - we can’t wait to go back!

Google
Excellent food, generous portions. I ordered the shredded chicken taquitos and was very satisfied. Other companions in my group highly recommended the chorizo. Small eatery but can seat larger groups outside (8). Service was a little slow due to the homemade and fresh nature of the dish. So take your time and enjoy. I will definitely go back.

We came by for lunch today after having Tito's at their other location a few weeks back and were happy we did. In short: this is a great lunch spot in the North Portland area, and is especially a standout for Swan Island. We had taquitos with shredded chicken, alongside a variety of their different tacos. Assuming you're not looking for a super luxe lunch atmosphere, Tito's is worth the visit! To me, you don't need too much from the physical space as long as it doesn't take away from the meal... and I'd say that was true for us. Three stars may seem harsh for "Atmosphere" but the reality is we still had a solid four star experience overall. The space is clean, the food is delicious, and the service was wonderful! They were incredibly kind, checked in on how we liked the food and even were quick to tidy up any tables that had recently opened up during the lunch rush. 👌🏽 Absolutely will be coming back for lunch again. Pro Tip: We actually almost didn't see it because we expected to find a food truck like the other location. The restaurant is in fact inside the building—look for the red picnic benches to indicate where the front door is.

Yelp
The hype is real. The taquitos were damn delicious! I tried the beef taquitos and loved the salsa roja. The food and space is simple, and staff is friendly. All in all this is an easy win. This is a must try and I highly recommend it! Pro tip: Go early if it's raining because indoor seating is limited.

Yelp
This restaurant specializes in taquitos. The name gives this away. I don't have much experience eating these from a restaurant so can't compare to other places. They were decent. Am I a fan of taquitos? still don't think so. The tauqitos have potato inside and topped off with your choice of meat or vegetarian options. Prices are reasonable for food made from scratch.

Yelp
We had a great experience here. Almost all of their items are gluten-free besides the breaded fish tacos and desserts (one other special of the day taco had fried onions that they would omit for GF). The food was really tasty and I felt very safe as someone with celiac - they had a dedicated fryer for all of the taquitos (breaded fish -not GF - was in a separate one). Their agua frescas were good, although the strawberry one was pretty sweet. We tries the shrimp taco, taquitos with citrus pork, and taquitos with chicken which was a little spicy. Everything was great! The seating is a little small but fine. The cashier/server was very kind and friendly

Yelp
I never knew this place replaced Tilt. The food is fantastic. I love taquitos so this was right up my alley. The concept of having the meat as the topping is very interesting to me. Usually you would find it on the inside. The service is counter service. You order at the counter and pick it up when they call you. If you know what tilt looked like before on the inside, you might not like it much as they've built a lot of walls inside. It feels very cluttered as they lost a ton of seating space. Otherwise this is an excellent lunch spot. Great Mexican food in Portland is very hard to come by and I think this checks the box for being great.

Yelp
Well...the garbanzos were lifechanging so definitely rating this a 5/5 on that alone. I randomly happened to be near Tito's Taquitos and decided that this was going to be the day to try them. I couldn't decide between mushroom and garbanzo so I split the difference and got a garbanzo taco so I could try both. The taco was literally incredible and I have been dreaming about it ever since I first tried. Definitely getting them on the taquitos next time. That being said, the mushrooms/taquitos were still incredibly good and all the salsas I had on the side were great, including the habanero which was memorable but also thankfully palatable. The taquito portion is NO joke; I definitely couldn't finish it on my own and ended up sharing with my husband. You can skip a wait if you order online which was super easy to do~ Service was very sweet and my food was ready just on time per my order! The interior here is cute and actually looks like it can hold more people than you'd think from the outside. Parking is easy since it's a big shared lot. Absolutely swing by and try these taquitos, you won't regret it!

Yelp
Although Tito's doesn't have a large menu, I wasn't able to try much of it because you get so much food with a serving of taquitos! I had the beef ones, which are topped with beef birria. For $9, you get 4 potato taquitos, which are served on a bed of raw cabbage topped with a mildly spicy avocado sauce, pickled onions, and some radish sliced. Your choice of salsa is also included. Toppings, such as the birria, pork, chicken, shrimp, garbanzos, or mushrooms, are an extra $5-6. It is a lot of food, and delicious. The taquitos are fried and crispy, not greasy. Birria was tender and well seasoned. Service is delightfully enthusiastic. The space is somewhat spartan and on the cold side on a chilly day, but the food warms you up, and I liked the Latin music!

Yelp
unique taquitos place! great price for the portions. potato taquitos had a great crispy texture. beef was flavorful but to my surprise i loved the fish taco the most!!

Yelp
Tito's Taquitos moved into the old Tilt burger spot on Swan Island as a spacious prep kitchen. Now they have opened it for mid-day lunch. The menu is the same as their food cart in SW. I finally decided to try their taquitos and it is a large meal. When they are open, they put out a sandwich board, but otherwise the signage is a bit hard to see from the road. They have outdoor picnic tables, bar counter seating by the windows, and tables inside. Counter order and pickup. The staff was very happy to be in the larger space and kept checking if everything was good.

Yelp
I stopped in for some Taquitos a couple of weeks ago. I love Taquitos and ate them all the time when I was in Los Angeles. Just like tacos truck they were everywhere. Mexican food is not as easy to find, Tito's makes a potato base Taquito. The potatoes are rolled in corn tortillas then deep fried, It then is topped with a Mexican meat topping. It's different and delicious. The fish taco was very tasty I really enjoyed my Hispanic Lunch. Very good food great service as well. Great place for a small business meeting. The location is kinda commercial keep your eyes out for a hole in the wall type store front

Yelp
delicious, fresh food, spotless restaurant and lovely service. I've been wanting to come here for ages- but it's a bit out of the way for me. My mom and I finally stopped in for lunch today- and were so impressed. We had a couple glasses of Agua de Jamaica, fish tacos, mushroom tacos, and shared an order of potato taquitos with birria. The tacos came with fresh baby cilantro, pickled onions and cheese garnishes. the taquitos also Had guacamole. There were a choice of 3 fresh salsas. We'll be back. This place rocks.

Yelp
Parking: easy. Lot Outdoor: 3-4 round plastic tables in front. Minimal shade in afternoon Indoor: nice, modern. Bench stools along the wall and 3-4 regular tables Food: Taquitos: Personally I'd rather eat a burrito or taco than a deep fried corn tortilla. Good, but not great. Potato filling lacked flavor and chicken and pork were on the saltier side. Would love to see the meat as the filling, but harder to make. Shrimp was good.Same pork in tacos as taquitos.. Corn tortillas for tacos were thicker than I like them so it was very strong in the tortilla flavor, but good. No booze. Topo Chico out, but had Mineragua, which in my humble opinion is not nearly as good as Topo Chico. Overall I would recommend checking this place out for yourself.

Yelp
Plentiful parking. Spacious, clean dining room. Friendly, attentive staff. Food came out quickly and played well. The star of the show was the fish taco.and the garlic, butter shrimp.

Yelp
Never disappoints! Picked up a to go order of the taquitos, Mexican brownie and a fish taco. The brownie was heaven, then fish taco was generous and delicious! Taquitos are always perfect. I brought some for my co workers and they couldn't stop raving. We are spreading the Tito's gospel for sure. I hope this location does really well, I have heard it's a little obscure. I would suggest some more signage, so everyone can experience this!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! We tried every taquito option as well as the fish tacos. All of the food had excellent flavor combinations and the taquitos had the perfect crunch. The staff was friendly and welcoming and worked super fast. We ordered quite a bit, but our food still came out swiftly. The space was open and clean and had plenty of available tables in and outside. Will absolutely be back and definitely recommend!

Yelp
I stopped in here while visiting Swan Island for work, and had a great lunch. This building had a couple different places come and go over the last 5 years but its nice to see something new here and I hope it stays. The person running the register was very helpful and enthusiastic about the business. They explained the menu to me and gave recommendations. I ordered the taquitos with beef on top and all of the toppings which included queso fresco, pickled red onions, cilantro, and radish. I also ordered one of each salsa to try them. The drink I ordered was a piña agua fresca. Here are my thoughts on each item I tried: Taquitos - very nice and crispy, with good flavor on the potato filling inside. A little difficult to eat due to the toppings etc, so use a knife and fork if you get toppings. Otherwise maybe ask for them not to be topped if you want to eat them by hand. The beef I added was tasty, but I think for the price of the addon I would skip the meat next time. They gave a lot of toppings, did not skimp. Maybe a 2x more red onions than most people would need but I appreciated it vs not having enough. The avocado sauce was nice on top, so definitely get it on the side to dip if not on top. - Verde Salsa - very mild with a good fresh flavor - Arbol Salsa - my favorite, great bold flavor and spice. They listed this as less spicy than their habañero salsa but I thought it was spiciest. - Habañero Salsa - good, but probably my least favorite. Usually hab sauces are my favorite but this one was a bit lacking in flavor and texture. - Piña Agua Fresca - Super fresh and tasty, however be warned it is sweet and more fruit heavy compared to some places. I thought it paired with the meal really well.

Yelp
This place is fricken fantastic! The Taquitos are perfectly light and crispy. They are packed with flavor. I'm coming back with friends. The tortillas on the tacos are soft and melt in your mouth. You won't go wrong here. Enjoy!

Yelp
This place is a 10/10. Easily some of the best Mexican food I've had in Portland! Finally, some good Mexican food I can rely on. We got the Taquitos + braised beef, a shrimp taco, pork taco, and fish taco. The beef on the Taquitos was sooo flavorful and juicy, the tortillas are out of this world - clearly made from scratch and so thick and soft. All the toppings are on point and it totally hits the spot without feeling overly heavy. You can tell the quality is amazing. And last but not least, even though it's counter service, the service was amazing. The gal working the front counter was clearly proud to work there and went above and beyond and was so nice. Will be back!!

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place! Very clean building and friendly staff. We came and tried the birria taquitos and the garlic shrimp taquitos. We were stuffed there was so much food and it was all sooo tasty. We will be back with more people!

Yelp
Delicious. Since living in Baja in my 20s, my love of a good fish taco runs deep. I totally get I'm not going to experience that exactly in the PNW, but I'm also not going to settle for the fish stick rolled in a tangle of bagged "slaw" and topped with (god forbid) CHEESE. This is of course , their spin, but oh what an excellent one. Fresh, beautiful to look at, flavorful, amazing. Tried the Jamaica too, great flavor and not too sweet. The Tres Leches cake was probably the best I've had. A must go.

Yelp
Excellent spot! Hard to find delicious food in this area. Taquitos are a must try. Citrus pork was excellent. Must try!

Yelp
Our group ordered taquito plates. Each plate came with 4 hand-rolled potato-filled taquitos on a bed of shredded cabbage, topped with avocado sauce, a generous amount of tasty braised beef (birria style) Cotija cheese, cilantro, radishes and pickled onions too. The garlic shrimp taquito plate had also a generous amount of shrimp on the taquitos. These were very satisfying and a flavorful delight to the tastebuds! Yum yum!! What a treat!

Yelp
I work down on Swan Island and our lunch choices are pretty limited. Imagine my delight when I saw that one of my favorite food trucks were opening up a brick and mortar restaurant here! Went in today for the first time and I'm soooooooooo happy. I'm a low carb girl and that usually doesn't bode well for Mexican food but they have a low carb bowl on their menu and it was INCREDIBLE. Loaded with braised beef (you can pick your own protein), fresh avocado, queso fresco, cabbage, pickled red onion, radishes and fresh cilantro. On top of that, it was ready for p/u in 5 minutes and the portion was HUGE. Restaurant is spotlessly clean and has a welcoming ambiance. The cherry on top was that the service is IMPECCIBLE. I will be back at least once a week from now on (sorry Subway).

Yelp
Amazing tacos! I can't believe i haven't came here before but the Tortilla flavor is unbeatable! Restaurant is clean, spacious and nice. Customer service was top notch and staff was very friendly. Will definitely make this a lunch spot regular.

Yelp
Love this place. Tastiest taquitos this side of the border. Food cart with limited outdoor seating.

Yelp
Excellent taquitos (we had beef on top) and fish tacos. Homemade tortillas were so tasty. Salsas were great too.

Yelp
Got this for lunch today, gotta say it kinda blew my mind. That CRUNCH. Tito knows what he's doing, the crew there too. Friendly vibes. Very tasty tacos and outstanding taquitos. Need a crunch emoji. They need to open one closer to me.

Ryan R.

Yelp
I haven't had tacos and taquitos this good in a very long time. It rivals my memories of places in Los Angeles. We had the beef taquitos, as well as one each of the beef, pork, chicken, and fish tacos. They were all great. Really tasty and affordable food. The people are friendly and the space inside is nice too. It's exactly what I'm looking for when exploring for a great new place to eat.

Craig H.

Yelp
Service impeccable! The workers constantly checked in on us, and asked if we needed anything. Extremely attentive. My fish and chicken tacos were absolutely delicious. Flavors are nicely balanced, and there's a hint of citrus.

Marco S.

Yelp
Well, Food has great Food taste, great customer service and clean place Personally I love rock en español so love ambient

Yelp
If you are one of those people who delight in authentic tasting greatness, this is your spot. The original Tito's is a food cart and this is their brick and mortar. Lemme tell you about these tacos. Omg. We tried the "taquitos" with the beef on top and they were to die for. Crispy rolled up tortilla, filled with potato magic, topped with the tastiest-juiciest shredded beef over a bed of shredded cabbage. Covered in a delightful avocado salsa, queso fresco and some yummy little greens. Side of pickled onions and sliced radishes. OMG. I already want more. The salsas are AH-MAY-ZINGGG!!! We also got some tacos with, get this, FRESHLY MADE CORN TORTILLAS, yes you read right, omg and more of the beef and deliciousness. My eyes were rolling in my head, cause I was in heaven. Oh and it didn't end there. We got the Tres Leches, and we got it just to take a bite and "eat later" but after the first bite, we couldn't stop! Overall, one million stars, highly recommend. The staff is the nicest group of people. So attentive and friendly. The restaurant was spotless and the music was so good! We drove up from South Beaverton, and it was WORTH IT.

Matt G.

Yelp
The best tacos I've ever had! So good I actually got an order of taquitos to go after finishing my tacos (not because I was still hungry, but because I wanted to try those too.) Lol Not really noticeable signage from the street, but it's right next door to the Concentra Urgent Care. The tortillas are freshly made and the protein options are plentiful and delicious. I'll keep coming back here for sure. :)

Grace M.

Yelp
Amazing food. Taquitos are amazing and the tacos are really good. Customer service was really good! I would give this an 8/10.

Angela P.

Yelp
I grew up on TexMex and never realized I missed taquitos until I went to Tito's. The immaculate, well designed brick and mortar is the same menu and quality as the famous cart in SW. Big potato filled taquitos (4) with the protein topping of your choice, including sauce, cilantro and pickled onions on a bed of shredded cabbage. The garlic shrimp is amazing, the folks who work there are kind and service driven, just really amazing food. Please support this tucked-away spot on Swan Island so we can keep them!
