"A busy traffic circle near the French Quarter that for over a century featured a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee; after the city voted in 2015 to remove that and the sculpture was taken down in 2017, a campaign was launched to rename the circle in honor of Leah Chase and place her statue on the existing podium. Organizers say the proposed monument would be funded and installed by a local food institution with no taxpayer money, and an accompanying Change.org petition gathered more than 1,500 signatures within hours toward a 2,500-signature goal as the proposal awaits city approval." - Eater Staff
