There is nowhere like Tj Byrnes. I have been coming here for almost 10 years. From my college days to my now working girl days - you can still catch me visiting with my best friends and see us having the best time no matter the time of day! Tommy & Misty and the entire staff take care of their customers. Prices are great, drinks/food are great, customers are great, staff is great. Going back there today sparked me to make my review!!!! I'll always love and support this great place!

T.J. Byrnes impresses with very good service and atmosphere - the staff is attentive and the vibe is inviting. Unfortunately, the food was just average and didn't match the quality of the experience elsewhere. Come for the ambiance and hospitality, but don't expect exceptional cuisine.

I used to come here every Saturday and this place has such a unique and warm atmosphere! Love their food, drinks and service! Veeeery reasonable prices

The pork was tender (fell off the bone), the vegetables were charbroiled, the potatoes were just the right texture and full of flavor. The servers were friendly and attentive. The ambiance is a blast from the past.

Nice atmosphere. The red leather upholstery and dim lighting the seventies music (Barry White and BeeGees type music) they were playing gave me this retro lounge vibe that I loved but was lost on a younger member of the group. (My young childhood was in the seventies and I watch lots of seventies retro tv, so... ✌) I loved my fish and chips. Not everyone loved their food but hey if it's Irish then go Irish so I did and I wasn't disappointed.

I went to a reading here and one of the poets loudly listed all of the signage displayed on businesses down the length of fresh pond road as If words to a song. It was a car accident at the intersection of wow and dated Irish pub that made my spine tingle like I’d been karate chopped in a way so hard I might feel it forever

Went here recently. Locals spot. Got chicken tenders ($15) and some domestic light bottled beer. Tenders were microwaveable quality at best. Solid atmosphere but way too pricey on food and drinks for the quality you get.

Needed a spot for dinner that was close by, this showed up in our search. It was pretty empty upon our arrival. There were a few people at the bar but the entire dinning room was empty. It was actually kinda nice! Finally a lone patron sat at a table nearby. I had the brisket special that came with a turkey vegetable soup which was amazing! The brisket came with vegetables and masked potatoes, it was excellent. This was not a huge portion just right. One in the group had the chicken pot pie, it was excellent! The waitress Kathy was very nice! I'm surprised this place was not hiding on a Saturday night. It's a great neighbor spot. I would return if I'm in the neighborhood!

What a great experience here. We came by on a Saturday evening and every where was packing with wait times. This place had available table with some authentic Irish food. Beers were nice and cold with Christmas music playing in the background. Katy was out waitress and was very pleasant. They also have a bar area. I wish I lived close to this neighborhood/bar restaurant.

The cheese burger and fries are OFF THE CHAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! The cheeseburger and fries are worth the trip. The queen and I went to TJ Byrnes for Jerry Saltz interview. The queen is an artist, so we went to check him out. We stayed after everybody left. The waitress was amazing, and we are certainly are coming again.

Super sweet bartender, great drinks and they always have the tv on games, if there are not games, there's replay of old ones. I'd come back- next time to try food along with my drink.

I have been going for years because I used to work in the area. The staff is very friendly. They have a good selection of beers, and the food is very good. They always have game on tv and a jukebox always playing good music. When I'm in the area I always stop in I highly recommend it.

I've been here a handful of times over the past eight years but I've never gotten around to writing a review for good ol' TJ's. I attended Pace University for undergrad which is located pracitcally down the street from this spot. Throughout my college years years my friends and I would visit TJ's to pregame before our nights out uptown. However, even after all the times I've been here to drink I never actually got the chance to dine or attend an event hosted in the space. The opportunity presented itself in the form of a coworker's send off celebration and I was definitely able to find out more things about my college watering hole that I didn't know before. Our party arrived at about 5:30 on a Thursday evening. We had rented out a private room in the back set aside for events which had a long communal style table for seating (I didn't even know this existed). When we got there the server who'd be hosting us for the night had set the cutlery out and after several more people arrived started taking our drink orders. In reference to the catering, the restaurant served pretty much your typical finger foods; pan pizza's, wings, mozzarella sticks, etc. The majority of it was actually very greasy and even though we all downed good amounts of it we felt a bit queasy afterwards. I'd recommend the place just use less heavy ingredients in the preparation of the food. The service here was pretty consistent though. Our party had one server during our entire stay and he came back and forth to us every 10 minutes or so to take additional drink orders, or to see if we needed more food, plates, cutlery, etc. Another thing that stood out during our time here was the confusion we had with members of a different party being directed to our space. It happened a few times while we were here, but after the sixth time or so we informed the hostess that they were sending people to the wrong space. They apologized and made sure it wouldn't happen again. Honestly, this spot was good for what it was when I was in college, a good bar to pregame at with friends. I wouldn't order food here, but know that you'll get genuine service and strong drinks.

Good burger, cool vibe. Great off the beaten track place. Been here a few times and I always make it a point to come back when I'm in the area

We were there the day after Ida struck. Only 2 of our reserved 6 could make it through the flood waters. There were about half a dozen others in the bar. Both of us, in our group, had the chicken pot pie which was bigger than the store-bought kind, but went cold fast enough to scream MICROWAVE. That's why a star was gone. But, after all, it was right after a flood. Tommy, the manager (I'm guessing the "T" from TJ) and our the waitress, were great. The beer was good, with a nice Goose Island on tap. There's a quiet back room, and a front room with a couple large TVs. Lots of wood and an old timey bar feeling. No tourists or college frat boys... but it might be different right after work hours.

I have family members in the area and decided to go there for Thanksgiving, it looked like a good deal at $50 per person. Big mistake. The turkey meal was bland, totally flavorless and looked like some slop you'd be served in jail or in the service, I couldn't tell what was what but I knew it was missing the cranberry sauce promised in the menu. The appetizer was one tiny little crab cake that was missing the crab. The small bowl of lobster bisque was not rich or creamy and lacked flavor. What a disappointment, not even worth $20, much less $50.

Great downtown bar with friendly atmosphere and a great selection of drinks like beers and mixed drinks, as well as some good food to go with too, very friendly atmosphere and I for one am a fan of the burger served late at night here. Good for different variety of occasions and have always come back and brought friends to this place.

The food is way beyond bar food. They have a excellent chef. Tommy at the bar is just what you come to a pub for. A well poured drink, some plesent conversation and no BS.

The very best French fries! Crispy and golden on the outside and soft, fluffy, and piping hot on the inside. Not too thick and not too thick. JUST RIGHT. Bravo! I go there just for the fries!

Great place to come for your thanksgiving and Christmas fix. Loved the full course set menu on Xmas! Lovely staff!

My family lives in the Southbridge complex so I have been coming here for years,the food has undergone several periods from truly awful to decent to where it is now which is really good. Had an early dinner here with a friend on a recent early evening,had one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. Ordered it medium rare and thats exactly how it came! If you order medium rare you know how hard it is to get it that way. It was meaty and the juice soaked the bun yumm. They served it with lettuce,tomato,pickles and onion. The fries that came with it were nothing special but not bad either and you cant beat a pint of Guiness.

Good food. Great service. Reasonable prices. I had the Mahi Mahi. My friend had the filet Mignon. We shared the lemon cake. All very good.

Food is not good at all. I ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms and the lobster stuffed ravioli. Let's just start with for the amount that they charge for each dish, the least they could do was have fresh crab and lobster but they did not. For the mushrooms, they were slightly burnt with no flavor or seasoning. So disappointing. The ravioli was a disgusting mess. The sauce was too thick with no flavor at all. The "lobster" tasted old. This is second time I have ordered from there thinking that maybe they had an off day.. but no... just noo... save your money and save your tastebuds

I ordered their roast beef club and it came with french fries. Just your basic triple decker sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mayo. Delivery was prompt and food was hot. Good sandwich, I think I made a better choice than my boyfriend did though. I was happy with my order and will probably order from them again.

We ordered from T J Byrne last night through Seamless Web. Being an Irish haunt, I stuck with traditional fare and opted for the fish and chips. Now, fish and chips is the sort of meal that can be wonderful, and when falling short of that, still is pretty good. Comfort food at its best right? Well, not so much here. The fish was nicely fried, but there was nothing in the way of flavor except for the flat taste of inexpensive frying oil. Adding fresh lemon juice did not help. Ditto for the included tartar sauce, and unfortunately no cocktail sauce was provided in my order. The fries were generally unremarkable. The delivery was timely and the presentation was fairly good for a delivery order. However, the meal was decidedly grim overall, and we will not be a repeat customer.

Usually when I go to TJs I go to hang out at the bar with some friends after work and not to eat from the restaurant. The drinks are reasonably priced and not remarkably stronger or weaker then anywhere other bar. And some tasty beers on tap as well. The bartenders however are all older and really nice and attentive, although its important that you are patient too because sometime during the school year they get bombarded with college students. I've definitely had awesome times at TJs. For the actual food I can say that the calamari was REALLY disappointing but the fries were tasty. Note: Friday night is (was?) Karoake night, you've been warned

Pretty good place. Got to know it as I campaigned for office in the area, and its attached to Southbridge, a big residential co-op. It's nice to have that neighborhood feel in the Financial District. And there really is one, and a community of people you'll get to know if you come back more than once. Prices aren't crazy, never gets too loud or too crowded. Food is quite good, the fries are thick but crunchy, chicken wings are flavorful and well cooked, soda is from the fountain and not a can. Staff is genial and easy going. Just the little things, but it's a place I love.

I can't believe how gracious and accommodating Tommy and his staff were. A group I was performing with got screwed over by a previous venue. Some of the cast frequents TJs regularly and asked if we could perform our show in this space. Tommy didn't hesitate- he let us perform our show. I can't thank them enough! They were open, welcoming, and gracious, not only to our cast but to our audience as well. Great drinks, great bar food, and most importantly, great staff!

TJ Byrnes is my neighborhood bar, and I have brunch there often. This time, I rented the party room for my high school reunion and I am delighted that I did. Tom, the owner, was super helpful in the planning. There is a speaker in the room, if you want to use your own ipod, though the wi-fi signal could be weak in the back room. (If wifi is important for your event, they can also section off a part of the main dining area, which is closer to source). Our buffet was plentiful, hot, delicious and brought out in a timely manner. We opted for an open bar as part of our package, and it was well worth the addition. The staff was professional and attentive, but not intrusive. Once the party got rolling,I really didn't need to do much of anything. I'm telling you, this crew made me look REALLY good! They are also really cool about (reasonable) requests. For instance, it really bothers me to waste food, so the staff packed up all of the leftovers for me, without a hassle. They also let my "check-in" girl sit outside the room at a bar table to do her job. I am definitely using the party room again, and I highly recommend it for private functions.

this place is like any bar and the beer and regular one shot plus soda drinks ok wine also ut complex drinks forget they made the worse old fashion i have ever drank the food is really poor but filling... but really poor by any new york city standards would not remember

Seems like it was under staffed food was cold, took a long time to get it. Almost not edible. Even a local "joint " like this should be better

This place is really nice. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is good, nothing really fancy but you don't go to a place like this for fine dining. Comfort food at its best!

It's a perfect place to go from a long day of work, and the food you won't be disappointed very delicious and don't forget to try the margarita. And the environment is so friendly everybody is very nice.

This place just never gets it right. We used to come here for lunch once in a while because it's never crowded, but it's obvious why. The food keeps getting worse, they ALWAYS screw up at least one of our orders, and if you ask them to fix it, they pretend not to know what you're talking about. And they always charge the wrong (higher) price. The guy is looking at the menu as he's writing the check. How does he not know what he's charging? This will be the last time we come here.

THIS PLACE IS A HIT!!!!! This is the kinda place where you go for a cocktail with the girls and STAY for the karaoke ;) I recommend the Blue Long Island and perform Girls Just Want to Have Fun -OR- I Will Survive - both are staples Onto the food...I got the shepherd's pie...YUMMY! It was moist and so not bland like other reviewers are saying. *cough*Harmony*cough* jk jk, all in good fun dear, I get it :) Carol and Persephone, two co-workers of mine also known as BeBe FriFri and Stretch Marx, respectively (they're trademarked), ordered the steak which look great and hot! Only downside: we met two vivacious African American women accompanied with their toothless, tuxedo wearing bearded "friend" who appeared to control them. Let me say now, that I DO NOT CONDONE OR SUPPORT FORCED PROSTITUTION!!!!! I have seen Pretty Woman, ok?? So yeah, beware of the pimp. But the food is great, the crowd is super old and that's fun too, and me and the girls love their drinks!!!

I was quite surprised with my experience here. I walked in and I was the only person in the dining room. I ordered the chicken pot pie, which I must say was delicious. The service was great and the drinks were strong. Nice little hidden gem.

Amazing brunch: Bloody Mary, corned beef hash and eggs over easy, OJ - sounds simple, but amazing, and we have the place to ourselves - c'mon over!

Not bad food but not great. The place is hiding behind a supermarket. A little out dated but it is what it is. Nice crew. Everyone was friendly.

Probably deserves 3.5 stars. Went there for dinner because we were staying down around that area. We looked at the Seaport restaurants and they were either "private events", packed or priced very high. TJ's was an interesting place. Meant more for the people who live around the area. There were prix fixed items on the menu and were salad/soup, entree and dessert. The salad -- regular but a fair amount. I had the soup (black bean) which seemed out of a can. Entrees -- wife had penne with chicken and vodka sauce -- and she got a lot. Finished maybe 2/3's of it. I got the liver and onions/bacon with a backed potato. Not bad. Even a little spicy and I liked that. The potato was okay too. Not something that had been sitting there for hours. Dessert was wow. She had the chocolate cake and I have the pecan tart. Both not made there but the portions were fine. We were not rushed at all. Service was very good. The waiters were not stuffy and made the evening friendly. The bar seemed nicely stocked and service was quick. Not a bad place, price was very good (for NYC) and quality for entree was good with the other courses filled in nicely with "store" bought items.

This place has really good food -- it just needs to work a bit on the rest. The place needs a bit of a makeover (a nice paint job -- preferably a bright color, new carpeting or fresh wood floors, maybe get rid of the 2 electronic games by the bathrooms that look out of place -- the one that displays cards and the other that wasn't even turned on. Add a little more pizzazz to the atmosphere). The waitress was friendly and my food was very good.

Work down the block, so went for lunch. Loved the description of the tortellini carbonara. It arrived in carbonara-colored water. I told the waitress I didn't think I could eat it. She asked if she should drain it. No thanks, I wanted carbonara, not drained pasta. So she took it back and I ordered a cajun chicken wrap (not at all what I wanted), which was ok. Boss was walking around but wasn't interested that a plate was sent back before even a bite was taken. Oh well, you get what you pay for. And please clean the carpet. Must say the waitress was nice.

My girlfriend and I were the only people there at 7:30 on a Wednesday night, which surprised us. It's much larger and nicer on the inside than you would expect. It would be a good place for a big after-work get-together. I had perfectly good non-greasy fish and chips, and she had a decent sliced steak sandwich. My beer was flat, but the waitress was very apologetic and replaced it immediately. We'll be back. (Oh, the waitress didn't blink an eye at a same-sex couple, so that was nice too.)
