The 23 Best Restaurants in Amsterdam, the Netherlands | Eater

"Tjin’s began serving curried egg and sardine sandwiches from the back of Tjin’s Record Shop in 1977. It turned out the sandwiches were more popular than the records, and an institution was born. Today, the shop offers a wide variety of sandwiches, including bacalao, tempeh and long beans, and char siu pork, spiced up with house-made hot sauce and pickled cucumbers, as well as roti rolls, baras, blood sausage, and buns filled with pom (a casserole made with elephant ear root, chicken, citrus, and spices). There’s also an array of drinks on offer, but a soda from Surinamese brand Fernandes is classic. Best for: A good, quick meal after walking past all the boring tourist snacks on the Albert Cuypstraat." - Katharine Khamhaengwong

Found myself going into the shop on a rainy afternoon, and little did I know it would be my best gastronomic experience in Amsterdam. The food was outstanding (especially the homemade sauce), but I must say Ryan is what brought it over the top, with his superb knowledge of Surinamese heritage and warm and welcoming personality.

Authentic & delicious. Best sandwiches in town. You get your food fast and with a smile whilst listening to nice beats in the background. The moment you take your first bite it feels like you are on a short vacation elsewhere. They have nice vegetarian options, too.

Food was absolutely delicious. Tried the cod sandwich and it was so good I had to get another one to go. Second sandwich I ordered was the honey roasted pork. Both were awesome and you should try them. The staff were so nice and helpful and showed me how they make their pork. Great experience, highly recommend.

This place is great! We went for the cod, curry prawns and silver herring, which were all delicious. Packed with flavour and spice. I cannot recommend adding (and purchasing) their in-house Surinamese hot sauce. It is glorious.

An institute in Amsterdam. For me it's the best Surinamese food you can get. You can taste the attention of detail in the ingredients. For instance the tja sieuw-sandwich (roasted pork), which is barbecued and smoked with three different types of wood: cherry, apple, plum (rare). Their homemade hotsauce, the amazing sausages. Must visit when you're in Amsterdam.

If I ask for spice and Hoi Sin sause on my sandwich I expect it to be on there….not worth the money.

Google
Small store for hot sauces and other Asian and South American products. Best 10 square meters of the city for people who like to spice things up. Surinamese sandwiches are quite okay but there are some better options close by...

Yelp
By far the closest thing to "Authentic Surinamese Tjouwmin Moksi Meti". I have tried allooooooot all over the Netherlands. Believe me, they do not come close. This is my thing. If you want to make me happy. Surinamese tjouwmin moksi meti. I even have friends and family import frozen Tjouwmin from Suriname(after 11 years still love that one Chinese restaurant in Suriname). Tjin's Tjouwmin is closest to the real deal you'll ever get in Almere. I can not vouch for the other dishes and food never tried them. But if you want a taste of Real Surinamese Tjouwmin moksi meti. Look no further. Perfect noodles (only disappointed me once hence the 4/5 stars),Beef, pork and chicken in one dish. What else can you possibly want? I'm craving it now just writing this..thats it. Tjouwmin moksi meti today again!

Yelp
Confession: I totally almost judged this sandwich shop by its cover. THANKFULLY, I had a streak of cool and remained in line, ready to try an exotic broodje. Y-U-M. Staff are super friendly. Two younger guys, both really helpful, making sandwiches and explaining all of the options very patiently. I had an avocado + tempeh + green bean sandwich. SO LEKKER! The sandwich was 3 euro, I believe. Nice price. It's a really quick, convenient and tasty sandwich shop in my hood that I'm so glad I finally tried. I can not wait to go back!

Yelp
Best food in town! The staff was so friendly! We came a big group but they were very flexible and prepared food for all of us. My highest recommendations!
