8 DC Restaurants Open On Christmas Day 2024 - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Maybe you overdid it with your Christmas Eve shenanigans, and now you have a hankering for fried chicken. Head to Luna Hall in Chinatown. TKK Fried Chicken will be serving its juicy tenders and boxes of crispy wings, legs, and thighs. Hang out in the lounge chairs if you are trying to relax and kick your feet up, but it’s also a great take-home meal if you have more Hallmark rom-coms to watch." - tristiana hinton, madeline weinfield

The Best Restaurants Near Capital One Arena - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Sure, there’s a Chick-Fil-A right by the arena, but that’s not where you’ll get the best chain chicken in Chinatown. Head to TKK Fried Chicken in Luna Hall—where the Taiwanese tenders, sandwiches, and drumsticks are all juicy, beautifully breaded, and perfectly seasoned. The flavors range from a crispy mild to a spicy peppercorn, which is our favorite. Pair it with a milk tea (they have dairy-free options) for the ultimate pregame (or show) chicken meal." - tristiana hinton

The 9 Best Chinese Restaurants In Washington DC's Chinatown - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Most of the Chinese restaurants in Chinatown have been around for a long time, but TKK Fried Chicken is a very welcome recent addition. The fast-casual Taiwanese spot, located in Luna Hall, serves individual combo meals like the spicy chicken sandwich (get it deluxe if you want lettuce and tomato) for when you need a cheap on-the-go meal, and affordable family-sized chicken platters for when you really can’t cook dinner. Everything on the menu is worth trying—we particularly love the juicy, crunchy chicken tenders. Pair them with the seasoned curly fries or the buttery charred corn and a milk tea." - omnia saed

I'm on the fence about TKK. I actually was in the plaza to get food from somewhere else, when I saw the sign for Taiwanese fried chicken and had to try some. They're located inside of the Kung Fu Tea. The TKK sign was small, so it's easy to miss. Customer service was good, and they made sure to inform us that the chicken would take about 15 minutes to prepare. I got the 3 piece spicy meal which came with a biscuit and fries. I was told the 3 pieces would be random, and you can't specify a preference of white or dark meat. I liked that the meal came in a bucket and thought it was a cute touch. The fries were pretty disappointing - they were a little soggy and very greasy. The chicken was good until I saw the huge 3rd piece of meat. I got a leg, thigh, and I have no idea what that 3rd piece of meat was. It was huge and unidentifiable. It scared me and turned me off from eating the rest of the meal. If they have an option for all wings, I may go back and give that a try since the flavor was good.

Today was my first time eating at this restaurant and their food is delicious 😋. I ordered an original crispy chicken delux meal with a Hershey s'mores skate. The way they fry their food, not greasy, fried hard, or over seasoned. If I had to describe their food I would say it's finger licking good. I would refer my friends and family here. In my opinion they're prices no different then Popeyes or Chick-fil-A. The only thing I don't like about they're drinks is that they don't use plastic lids.

Stopped in close to closing and asked if they’d still fry up some chicken tenders. The cashier was so polite and he asked the cook who said it was fine! Chicken was great! The spicy sweet chili sauce was so tasty and spicy! Would definitely go back for the food and the service. It’s so nice to go to a place where the staff is so pleasant, especially in this day and age! To the owner- you have a great crew working for you and I hope you appreciate them. They’re the face of your business ❤️ and I hope they’re compensated for their great attitude and pleasant demeanor!

Google
You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. How does a TKK Chicken not serve chicken. The signs are up for TKK. The menu still has chicken on it. The windows still have TKK chicken advertisements. The staff says they no longer serve the menu. Who goes to a place known for chicken to order Chinese food?

Chris

The chicken strips used to be bigger, but anyways the food is great.

First, we waited for our food for 35min after we were told it would take 10min and no one else has ordered food! Second, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. No one addressed our wait or even assured us that food was coming! When asked, the girl taking orders said let me check and never came back to let us know when our order was coming she just went back to doing other things. Third, the chicken was dark and looked as if it were cooked in old oil. The tenders looked very white and weird and didn’t taste good. The curly fries were pieces and burnt. Fourth, the food was overpriced! NEVER AGAIN!!!

Google
Horrible customer service. I attempted to buy a 12 piece mixed (half spicy and half mild) and I was told no I could not mix, but after they realized there were not enough spicy pieces, I was offered half and half. So it’s not about the customer wants, but what is convenient for the staff. There was a 12 min wait for old and greasy fried chicken that was under a heat lamp and then reheated to an unbearable temp. Chicken was so greasy with a distasteful after taste and chicken bones were so brittle they crumbled at the touch. A hard no! Popeyes is less than a mile away. Don’t waste your money.

Finally get a chance to try the TKK chicken in the States. Took a while to find the place because it is share the shop with two other brands. Ordered chicken thigh, drum sticks and wings...the only thing I can say is disappointed. Nothing close to the original Taiwanese favor and quality. Thigh and drum stick were dry inside out and taste strange. The wings were freshly fried and are much better, still juicy inside. Saw both good and bad reviews for this shop, that means their food quality is not stable. And unfortunately, mine is a one.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my Door Dash experience. The food was still hot and smelled great. I enjoyed the spicy wings and the 2-piece combo. I equally enjoyed the cheese fries and the cheese curds. The biscuits was also a pleasant surprise and o enjoyed one the next morning for breakfast. There were two things I did not enjoy. 1. I ordered 4 wings and received 3 wings and a drumstick. 2. The 3-piece mild combo had a slight sweetness to it. It was definitely not the same flavor as the spicy chicken. My partner ordered the combo and LOVES fried chicken and did not enjoy it and only ate one piece. I did not understand the disconnect from my great experience and their experience. I tasted a piece the next day along with one piece I had leftover and understood. The flavor was different between the two pieces. I would definitely go back and would highly recommend the spicy chicken!!! Thumbs up!!

Yelp
Free parking and accepts both cash and credit card. We were craving for some fried chicken and decided to give this place a try. One word to describe their food: FLAVORFUL.. We ordered their mild fried chicken, spicy fried chicken and their fried chicken sandwich. The spicy fried chicken was delicious. The mild fried chicken was equally good. The chicken sandwich was decent. Tons of flavor. Recommend their spicy fried chicken. Definitely had a spicier kick than expected. Definitely better than other chicken spots such as Jollibee. Worth giving this place a try.

Yelp
After seeing a movie nearby, i used Yelp to search for a place where I have never been. I came across this spot and decided to give it a try. I didnt realize until I walked up on the place, that it was food offered within a kung fu tea. I ended up ordering the spicy chicken sandwich combo meal and wasn't able to eat it until i got home. After about a 40 minute drive, I finally made it home and to my surprise the sandwich was still warm. I hate rewarming sandwiches because in my opinion, they get soggy and the cold toppings gets warm. As for my side, I had their mashed potatoes with gravy. I've had a lot of chicken sandwiches in my lifetime, but this sandwich was so dang good! It was the right flavor combination and it was JUICY! Some restaurants have dry chicken and they add a bunch a topping to balance it. This was not the case with TKK Fried Chicken. If another opportunity presents itself, I will def be back and perhaps I'll try one of their teas as well!

Yelp
I've heard of the famed TKK Fried Chicken from KFT's Instagram for awhile now and was excited to try it! Overall they have some kinks to work out with efficiency, service, and the food/drinks but it wasn't bad. The combined store just opened, so there were some issues with service. We got our bubble teas within 5 minutes of ordering, but we waited 30 minutes for our food to come out and all we ordered were two combos. There were 8 other people waiting a long time as well. The food came out so slowly. No place to sit indoors currently and no public restroom. My crispy fried chicken (original is non crispy FYI) was not bad. I got the combo with 2 dark pieces, biscuit, and a side. The price of $8.49 was reasonable compared to some of their other options. Chicken was On par with Popeyes but a thinner crumb coating. It was hot and freshly fried! But quite oily with small pools of oil under the skin and in the container - could be because the chicken just came out though. The curly fries were pretty standard but I enjoyed them! Don't waste your 25 cents on any dipping sauce for the fries, the honey mustard was meh. Just use ketchup. My favorite part was that buttery fluffy biscuit! A fluffier version of the Popeyes biscuit. Fiancé got spicy crispy chicken sandwich deluxe (which adds tomatoes and lettuce). It was pretty good but not very spicy. Charred corn on the side was buttery and smoky - I was overall a fan of it. Got a large KFT classic milk tea for free with the grand opening promotion. It was pretty standard but the Earl Grey brewed was stronger than usual and had a stronger floral taste that I didn't like. The bubbles were good as usual though. My usual order is oolong milk tea so I'd defer back to that next time.

Yelp
The Only Review You Need To Read My daughter likes Kung Fu Tea, and wanted to try this place since we were in Laurel at the time. So we fishtailed into the parking lot, found a spot right out in front of the restaurant and walked in like two people on a mission. It was a tad confusing when we first walked in because it looked like a Kung Fu Tea place with an "Oh yeah - we have chicken too!" menu, which seemed a bit random. Adding to the mayhem was a sign indicating you could pay for your frozen yogurt there for the frozen yogurt place next door which was a completely separate business. Anyway, my daughter ordered the three piece spicy tenders combo and I ordered a regular three piece combo. I got confused about the level of spiciness (I ordered crispy mild when I should have ordered just original), and since I was extra hungry, decided to try the crunchy cheese curds. Long story short, I wasn't crazy about the chicken. My review may be tainted because of my error with ordering the mild, which is supposed to be mildly spicy, but I found nothing mild about it - it was spicy. I don't like spicy foods; I prefer to enjoy the taste of my food without having to deal with my mouth feeling like it's on fire. Also, maybe if I would have gotten one of their different sauces, that might have helped. I had never had cheese curds before, and I will say they were good. I'm not all that crazy about the word "curd"though; maybe crunchy cheese bites would sound more appealing. There was a steady flow of customers while we were there, so it appears that a lot of people like them (or maybe there's no other place to get carryout chicken in that plaza). But my opinion based on this visit is that I was unimpressed. Royal Farms or Popeye's chicken are way better, but again, I didn't get their original. If it was just me, I'd have no interest in going there again; plus I'm not a fan of milk tea or boba, so there isn't really much else there for me. But if I was with someone who wanted to try it and we were in the area, those would be the only circumstances upon which I would ever return. So take from that what you will.

Yelp
Who doesn't love a delicious chicken spot with boba? TKK Fried Chicken was everything I expected. The chicken sandwich and wings were crisp to perfection. The endless sauce selection was the best part, I recommend the sweet chili and tangy honey mustard to pair with the wings. The Taro Slush with Oreo from Kung Fu Tea with your meal gives it a boost to your experience! I was too "chicken" to try the spicy chicken sandwich but I will have to try it next time because my friends were raving about it. Overall, a pleasant experience of you wanted a quick fried chicken fix!

Yelp
The food here was average maybe even below average. Some of the chicken wasn't cooked all the way, nothing was seasoned, the fries were soggy and the coleslaw tasted a bit old. The mashed potatoes were good though. I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately they missed the mark.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
Chicken flavor is excellent, especially the original Fried without the batter. It has the taste of traditional Taiwanese spice. Taste a little bit like 5 spice. Too bad they had to stop selling it because most people prefer the battered crispy fried chicken.

Yelp
From the folks that brought KFT to Columbia Mall. This location is paired with TKK Fried Chicken offerings. Having been open less than a week, service snafus and slight delays on orders are to be expected. The inexperienced staff do seem to be trying their best and will make it right for the customers. I highly suggest reading the extensive menu before lining up to order. You don't want be that person deciding which sides (there are many, more on that later) you want with a line of people behind you. You can expect the drinks to be similar in quality as the Columbia Mall location. Solid milk tea boba and other fruity/sweet drink options. So is there room for another fried chicken contender? Being a Popeyes and Royal Farms fan I wasn't sure how TKK could compete. We ordered the dark meat plain crispy and the spicy crispy combos. Despite some chicken available under the heat lamps, ours seemed to be made to order. Both had a nice crunch with a unique blend of spices. The spicy was most flavorful and had more bite than Popeye's spicy version. TKK was juicy and not overly greasy. Definitely eat it asap. I wouldn't let the hot chicken steam in the container on your ride home. The crunch level will suffer. Honestly that goes for all takeout fried chicken. If you have to take it home leave the lid open and don't tie up the bag. You want the steam to escape. What the heck is a Kwa Kwa Bao? It's pork and mushroom sticky rice surrounded with crispy chicken skin. Kinda reminded me of carnival food. Not sure it'll taste good but order it anyway for the experience. It is quite decadent. So I can now check it off my list. Next... Tonight the stars were the sides. The flavorful charred corn was delicious. The cheese curds were tasty and fun. Kids loved the cheesy curly fries. Careful of the HOT cheese. You've been warned. Biscuits were fluffy without being too buttery as compared to Popeyes biscuits. Would like to try some of the other sides, the original flavor chicken and chicken sandwich next time. I can see this being a fun quick stop before or after a movie or simply a stop to satisfy a snack craving. We wish them the best of luck with their opening and we'll definitely be back to support them.

Yelp
I'm so happy that they opened this TKK/KFT. They also have Tutti Frutti in the back which is pretty cool. I am fan of Tutti Frutti but didn't get any this visit. I definitely will next time. Since I already ordered food from Thai at Laurel (restaurant across from them) Go check out that review if you want to try! I only ordered a large cheesy curly fry. I alway check my order before I leave, there I caught the missing cheese sauce. Easy fix, the girl apologized, and added the cheese sauce. The fries were a little pricey so I expected them to taste better. They were pretty basic so I probably won't get them again. I will try the chicken sandwich and other yummy looking items on the menu!

Yelp
if you are a person of color please do NOT eat here. My friends and me went here for our lunch break, one of my friends ( african american ) order her meal first which was $18 the rest of my friends and me ( white ) ordered last and we all got the same thing but we payed $13 we eneded up getting our food after 15 minutes before our friend that ordered first, after 30 minutes go by my friend ( african american) still hasnt gotten her food so i go up there and asked where her food was and they said it would be another 5 minutes. 20 MORE MINUTES go by and she finally got her food. moral of the story this place is extremely racist and nobody should support their business

Yelp
TKK was awesome! My daughter chose this place and it was a good choice! I stepped in and was helped immediately! This was my very first time coming here and it was inside the Kung Fu Tea location! The young men who assisted me were awesome! They explained to me the difference in milk tea and advised since this was my first time to try the Thai milk tea! I added boba also! I also ordered chicken tenders for the kid and a 3 piece fried chicken for myself with curly fries! I spent about $25 for the food and ordered it to go! It took about 10/15 for the food to be ready! It smelled soo good in the drive home! The kiddo and I went in right away! And let me tell you it was still hot and very crispy. The chicken was very flavorful and juicy!! The bubble tea good also! I'm new to boba, it's an acquired texture but not bad! I will certainly be back for more! The chicken alone was soo good! And I would like to try the other options of drinks that they offer!! Very good!

Yelp
Mixed about this place. Tried the 6pc family meal spicy. Chicken was crispy, moist, but tasted just okay. The mashed potatoes and gravy was fine, the charred corn tasted burnt, the fries tasted a bit off with the chicken batter mixed in there and biscuits are biscuits. They didn't have shishito peppers nor the kwa kwa bao in stock and weren't sure when it would be in stock which was a bit strange. The people were friendly. Just not sure it's for me.

Yelp
I love KFT and am possibly addicted but I had not heard about TKK Fried Chicken until my son told me. I love Taiwanese chicken bites so I was down to try it. I placed my order in the KFT app. Love the app! My kids offered to run and pick it up and since it looks like I may crazily somehow be the first to review, I told them they had to help me take awesome pictures. Just as they were walking out the door, my phone is ringing with a strange number. I picked up and they were calling me about my order. Turns out, they did not have enough of the original chicken for my 12 piece family meal and only had 8 pieces. They asked if I would be okay with taking the remaining 4 pieces another way. You are sorry?! No, I love it because I did wonder if I could mix and it did not look like I could through the app. I am actually thrilled so I can try it with this order instead of waiting for the next order : ) Love the idea and the concept but not sure what happened with the execution. Was it good? Yes, I end up balancing out the rest of the family and they go for dark meat and I go for white meat. The order was actually packed heavy on breast. Not sure how that worked out. Let me tell you it was the juiciest fried chicken breast I have ever had. I'm just not sure how to describe the flavor. Some bites didn't really taste like anything but you could tell it had been marinated. Then in some bites of skin, especially at the edges and around bone, you would get bursts of flavor. Still can't describe what type of seasoning in the flavor but it had hints of potential. The sides were a bit more inventive than standard fried chicken sides. The charred corn was a nice twist. So then I couldn't pass up the ever so intriguing kwa kwa bao. Well first of all if you call it a bao, I'm in! It is sticky rice with pork and shiitake wrapped in chicken skin and then fried. I love sticky rice either on its own or wrapped in lotus leaves but this fried chicken skin sounded pretty awesome. In reality, it was quite awesome but somehow lacking a little kick. The rice may have dried out and it could have used more flavor. Speaking of flavor, I was supposed to get the extra sauce that they charge for but it was not packed in my order. Maybe that is literally what was missing. I am glad to have tried it plain. So, would I try it again? Maybe. I don't regret trying it and I could see myself trying it again another time but it was a tad overpriced. In the end, it was fried chicken after all. Got me some bubble tea so I am still overall very happy. Try something new and give it a try!

Yelp
The chicken was very delicious and very moist! Id say probably better than your chick fil a and popeyes. The chicken was flavorful and well seasoned, not to salty and not too bland! The chicken sandwich flavor was pretty similar to the chicken legs itself, and ordered spicy which was actually spicy unlike some other chicken places! What I would've liked is to have had a little more bread to the sandwich because the meat to bread ratio was pretty off. No complains with the biscuit or the mashed potatoes. Only other complaint was that the food took about 30 min to prepare.
google avatar

Carolina D.

Yelp
The chicken seem fresh, crispy and has flavor. My only complaint is that they take too long to give you your order, i a hopping that this is just because they make your food fresh.
google avatar

Yuli C.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of fried chicken and this has got to be one of the best from a fast food joint! Their fried chicken oozes FLAVOR and is very crispy on the outside. We got both the spicy and non-spicy chickens to try. Also got their fried chicken sandwiches, side of charred corn, and biscuits. The corn was good, I enjoyed the charred flavor but can see how it is not for everyone. Would come back for a bucket of the spicy fried chicken all to myself!

Yelp
I had been hearing a lot of good things about TKK so me and bae decided to check it out. We ordered a 3 piece with fries and wanted to see the chicken of course. A man in the store, who I assume is the owner, was very active in making sure we were happy customers. He brought us a sample to try and talked to us about their chicken compared to Popeyes. The wait for our food was over shortly so now it was time to try it. I liked it but something about the spice blend was hard to get with. I'd try it again though.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Excellent, very tasty/ juicy fried chickens. Love their sweet potato fries. It's a shame I have to travel 50 minutes to get the foods.

Yelp
Wonderful chicken, much better than the other fried chicken spots in the area. Chicken is flavorful, crispy, and fresh. Bonus points for being able to get bubble tea.

Mimi A.

Yelp
You guys I really wish I took a picture of it earlier when but when I tell you this chicken place is amazing I mean it for real. If I could give a 10 out of 5 rating I would the chicken was juicy still after 3 hours of buying it and the biscuits OMG were so soft. I recommend this place 100%. The COVID precautions were set well all staff were wearing masks and my order came out fast and hot. Cannot wait to go back soon!

Yelp
Not eat-in, masks worn, sanitizer at the counter, spacing there - a small fried chicken/bubble/milk teas restaurant. Sometimes, having to decide among fewer choices is good. The beverages are nothing worth noting, seemingly very similar to all the other bubble tea franchises opening up, everywhere - but the chicken, is a different story altogether - though not consistent. The chicken is prepared on the spot (not in advance), so be prepared to wait, bout 20 mins. Is it worth the wait? On my first visit, absolutely! I asked for the traditional, if you can imagine - rotisserie meets the fryer. The meat itself, succulent, flavorful, juicy - but the rotisserie crust, perfectly crisp and seasoned so deliciously good, you'll want to use it as a wrap for everything and make a meal out of it. Next you have mild fried chicken and spicy, fried chicken. Don't do it. The mild, though CRunCHY - had no flavor, but that crunch was spectacular and the the spicy, was mere heat. Go traditional. Served up with a decent, buttery crusted biscuit, the sides a bit boring and no blistered shishito peppers.

Steven C.

Yelp
I went for lunch and it took 20 minutes to get a 2 piece spicy crunchy chicken. It was way over cooked and rubbery. It made me sorry I did not drive 5 miles to Popeyes. The woman behind me waited for 10 minutes for 3 people to make her tea.
