"Known for its handmade Mexican bread since 1998, Tlaxcala is one of the go-to panaderias in OC for conchas, tres leches cake, and pan dulce. There are two locations now — one in Santa Ana and the other in Anaheim. Though the conchas are popular — they sell mini versions too — the churros, cono de crema, pan para capirotada, and Rosca de Reyes (which is available once a year) are equally tempting." - Jenn Tanaka

My daughter wanted a tres leches cake for her birthday. This is the bakery we normally go for our pan-dulce( Mexican sweet bread) so I asked if they could make me a cake. I saw one in their display case and asked if they could make it tress laches in a different color. The cashier said she wouldn’t be able to make it. The Baker came out from the back and said we can definitely make it and she did not disappoint.

The bakery has delicious bread. I love their mini conchas for 0.60 cents and bollios 3 for a $1. They don't accept eBT SNAP for food though. 🥹. Only cash and credit.

A family favorite for over 30 years

I walked in to the bakery 5 min before they were going to close. Great customer service. I wasn't rushed. Good pastries. I'll be going back real soon

Google
I used to come here back in the late 90' and early 00' there was always fresh bread no matter the time. I stopped coming here in the late 00' as this stopped being the norm. I have tried it on a few different occasions since then and I always run into stale bread. Today was no different stale bread and some burnt. I don't know if they only bake in the morning and by early evening it's all stale. I can say that the bread I got today seems like it was baked yesterday. I don't think I will be back. I miss the days that there was baking multiple times a day and the humidity from the warm fresh bread would make you feel like a hot stuffy summer day in Texas.

On Tuesday the 10th I went to the bakery and in the line in front of me were two elderly people and Mrs. Roberta who works at this bakery, the cashier was serving the Mall, a rude person asked her for some rolls and she started throwing them. the bag when it was my turn. The person who served me was also doing the same thing. I told him you have to be nicer to people. I don't mind. You have to have a little more cordiality. If you have to serve here, she told me, I don't care. You care because it's not your business, the poor owners don't know how many people they're going to lose because it's my first time here but it's also my last and she told me well, I don't care, those were Mrs. Roberta's answers, well, that's what she said. . I called but I will never return and also her floor was very dirty and the men who were inside, the bakers, did not have gloves or hair nets, how disgusting.

Google
Best mini conchas para el chocolate! First time trying out their cake. I am sure we won’t be disappointed! 🙌🏽

Google
I had to pay $3 for a box to carry what I bought, what? The only reason I needed a box is because I bought almost $30 of merchandise, to make customers pay for a box is ridiculous. They lost a customer today.

Yelp
I have spent the last three days visiting various panaderías in the area and this Bakery is indisputably the most delicious. Crispy light airy buttery cooking on top of an absolute cloud pan bottom!!!!

Rosie J.

Yelp
This is my childhood bakery. I love the pan Dulce! I give the pan Dulce a 5 stars and 1 star for costumer service. The lady's are so rude which is a shame since I know this bakery is amazing. I ordered a party size jello and a flan. I took it to a party and the flan was burnt and I went back to exchange it. The lady said it depends who makes it. I figured the recipe is the same but I guess they are not consistent. I spend $45 on one jello and a small flan. Those items are not worth it but the pan Dulce is.

Marlene M.

Yelp
Everything! Especially tres leches cake! The slices are better than the whole cake. I take home flip the container to let it soak through other side of slice. Delish!!!

Eldon K.

Yelp
Horrible customer service! I was looking for a bakery to make a tres leches cake for a friend for his birthday, he just recently lost his best friend who every year made him a tres leches cake for his birthday. This had high ratings on yelp and google, I wanted to order for friend, I also called a friend of mine who lives in. Santa Ana and told this bakery is amazing! I called and the lady who answered the phone spoke Spanish, I asked her if someone there spoke English and her response was a heavy sigh and said "NO!" And then hung up on me. I called back in hopes of getting someone else, another lady answers the phone, speaking in Spanish and I asked if there was someone there who spoke English and I got the same cold response "NO!" And then hung up on! This not away to run a business!

Noemi P.

Yelp
They have good telera bread. I went on a Saturday morning and it was freshly made. The cashier was friendly. I also had their atole and it was delicious. This is my go to panadería.

David H.

Yelp
The lady in the front had a really bad attitude. Don't care if your product is good, but if you act like her, then I'd rather go some place else where their product is mediocre. Learn some customer service and to smile. Just saw all the comments about the lady in the front being rude. GET A CLUE OWNERS OF THIS PLACE. Word of mouth travels fast and I will definitely let people know to not go there. Don't know how their reviews are good, probably fake.

Cristina P.

Yelp
Came to grab a tres leches cake and it was great! Not too soggy, which is my preference. Strawberry filling was amazing!

Desiree P.

Yelp
I saw a friend come here for pan dulce and rave about it, so I had to give it a try. Especially since I was having a concha craving. It did not disappoint! I had a hard time picking what to choose as my plan was to only get a concha and bolillos. Which then turned into a second concha, churro, and chocolate chip cookie. I did refrain from buying more cause I totally could've have bought like 20 items LOL. Everything tasted so good!! And the bolillos are so huge there's leftovers. {enter happy food dance}

faviola t.

Yelp
Please tell me how do you sell cakes and can't write happy birthday correctly ? I could have done it better and could have done a better writing and I hope this cake is actually 3 leches and strawberries inside and not dry either . Very disappointed on the presentation of this cake .Not only that the lady was rude they have bad customer service. This cake was $42 dollars Will I return maybe but not to buy cakes from there . The bread is not the same either over the years this bakery has changed don't know if it's the same owners but yeah I should have just gone to Albertsons.

Laura E.

Yelp
Best pan dulce!! Love the little ones pretty festive colors! Great for an event or an office

Sarah D.

Yelp
Best pan dulces, just moved to OC so I was looking for a good place to grab Mexican pan dulce and I finally found it. I will be coming often.

Yvette T.

Yelp
Delicious bread ! The conchas are amazing and made daily! they're always super soft and delicious! It gets super crazy busy when they make their bolillos ! Give them a try they're amazing !

Andy N.

Yelp
Had their pineapple and vanilla empanadas and a plain twisty bread thing. Not being a pan dulce connoisseur, I had to ask what each one was. Nothing is labeled in Panaderias. The bread was kind of dry, but the fillings tasted good and not overly sweet. Should be good with some tea. They didn't have any conchas when I went. Probably came to late in the afternoon.

Gayle W.

Yelp
The flavor of the bread stands out above other panaderías ! I really enjoyed it and they had add my favorites!

Rey H.

Yelp
Had some of the freshest Pan Dulce, very local. The price was very affordable. We were able to grab our own tray and go through each individual bread/pastry rack and choose out exactly what we wanted.

Gus C.

Yelp
Best conchas I've ever had in my life! Sooooo good! Like a cookie cloud. Crunchy on the outside and light and airy on the inside

Jess R.

Yelp
Ordered a cake from here. It was delicious. The price was also very reasonable, it was a cake for 6-8 people for only $35.00.

Quynh D.

Yelp
Bomb flan. Yelp didn't let me down with this one! Super friendly customer service as well. Price was cheap too. Small size was substantial and it cost $12! Definitely coming back here to try other items... they also had a chocolate version of the flan! That's next on my list.

Robert F.

Yelp
Awesome place to get a cake! Came here on 5/1/19 to get a cake for my co-worker. This place is great, friendly staff and great prices. We'll be back!!

Charles C.

Yelp
Freshly baked good daily which are delicious and friendly staff!! My staff and I enjoy every Sunday!

Maria C.

Yelp
My coworker picked up a good variety of pan at around 5:30/6pm and the bread was fresh! So so good, it hit the spot. I was worried so late in the day it might be a bit stale but I was wrong and I'm glad I was! I will be picking up bread from here for work more often :)

Genevieve R.

Yelp
For years now my entire family and I have been coming to Tlaxcala bakery to get our carb load fix and have always trusted Tlaxcala with our event, birthday and special occasion cakes.. they're always extremely creative and never let us down with how amazing the cakes look and how delicious they taste!! The entire Tlaxcala team goes above and beyond to ensure you get exactly what you envision when it comes to cakes, especially Elizabeth whom I go to for all my cake creative ideas which is why when it came down to the newest member of my families First Birthday, our cockapoo puppy Roman I had to come to Tlaxcala and get my Puppy a Barkday cookie cake which Elizabeth decorated herself. Thank you Tlaxcala for always helping me make birthdays special, even when it comes to my pet!!

Yelp
Came in today craving some Pan Dulce. I'm not from the area but looked upon Yelp to see if I could find a spot that sells Mexican bread near the hotel I'm staying at. As soon as I walked in it smelled like fresh bread, which is always a good sign. I came in at about 2:30 in the afternoon and there was fresh warm Pan Dulce everywhere. It took me a while to decide what I wanted since their choices are so vast. I picked up about 2 pieces and both were fresh and delicious. I definately recommend this location.

Pablo Q.

Yelp
This place would get one star if it was not for their normal bread actually being pretty good and well priced. However, their Rosca for day of the dead was a complete rip off. Came to get one early morning and when I open it I come to find it is all burnt. Not only was it visually unappealing but it tasted burnt too. Can't believe I paid $25 for this crap which should have been thrown away or donated.

Brenda B.

Yelp
Their pan dulce is sooo good! And they're constantly bringing out fresh pan dulce. I got lucky when I was there and they just brought out fresh orejas. They also have delicious looking cakes! We also bought some champurado and it was some of the best I've ever had. I will definitely be coming back here!

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
I've been coming to this bakery for years since I was a little girl and for the first time ever I ordered a cake for a special event to start of the top of my cake wasn't done correctly and when I notified the workers they were very rude about it they said I was a very detailed person but that's why they charge so much because of every detail. I also didn't receive the flavor I choose which was chocolate. I made a call to let them know the lady was rude since the moment we spoke. She told me to go to the bakery at 6pm because the lady who made my cake would be there at that time so I did just so I can run into another rude worker and she only refunded me $10 for a $100 cake she didn't even apologize for the inconvenience honestly a whole waste of my time for sure first and last time ordering a cake here.

Ilse M.

Yelp
Went to go buy rosca de Reyes and rosca was over priced for a large $47.00 ! The rosca was super dry and extremely toasted ! I am officially banned from buying roscas in my family because of this ! Primera y última vez que compró una rosca y aquí aparte de caras el pan bien seco y dorado (casi quemado) ! Mi familia ya no quiere que compre roscas !!

Maria A.

Yelp
Ive been buying bread from there for a few years now never had a complaint even with their bad attitude at times but the yummy bread made up for it. But today i went in as i do every year for my rosca didn't bother to check cause again bread always delicious. Got home and opened it to realize that half of it was burnt (mind you i payed $45 for this)When i called to notify the lady was like ok with disbelief i said i can send you a picture so i preceded to send her a picture. I later then recieved a tx saying lady thats not burnt but if you wanna comeback you can. Why would i drive 15min to go back for if they dont see the problem. I should have listen to my self the moment i walked in and they had a whole shelf of burnt ones at discounted price that was a first.

Robert P.

Yelp
Been coming here and then for years now. I no longer live around the area, but when I do, I stop by at the store next door (Nunos) and here. Specifically for their pan dulce. Always warm and fresh and the selections are endless. I definitely recommend this place for all your fresh pan dulce needs.

Melissa V.

Yelp
I went last minute to get a cake for my hUsbands birthday and was very sketchy at firsT because we wanted Tres Leches but not so runny aNd omg I found the best Tres Leches Cake here. So now I'll be coMing here for some bomb ass cakes.

Gloria J.

Yelp
Pan dulce was good but I ordered a Tres Leches mocha cake and only some parts of the cake were moist. About 1/3 of the cake was really dry and the tres leche mixture was little too sweet for my taste.

Ana J.

Yelp
Friendly owner and best fresh baked goods. Will make the drive to get great quality bread. Hands down the best Mexican bakery

Alessandra P.

Yelp
Wonderful bakery and wonderful staff! Cakes are to die for and the baked goodies put you on another planet! A large variety and so many great options to choose from. A must if you want true authentic home-made Mexican baked goodies and cakes! I recommend this bakery and will for sure be coming back!

Anne A.

Yelp
Confession: I have a concha obsession. Ever since my trip to Mexico City, I have been obsessed with these pastries. Txacala makes probably is the best I have tasted in the States. Lily's at the Mercado in Boyle Heights ranks high as well. The bakery is a free for all. Not knowing what to do, I was left with last concha. You walk in and you're supposed to grab a metal tray and tongs to pick and pile your pastries. A lady who walked in after me swooped up from behind and bought most of what was left and left me with one deformed concha to taste. The customers here are not your carb-concious set. Everyone seemed to pile their trays so high with pan de dulce one would think there was a food shortage. Highly recommended for conchas!

Alana H.

Yelp
Stopped in to grab concha's for our office, not impressed with their bakery. I'm confused to how they have such a good rating.

Alex T.

Yelp
Never Fails with the Tres Leches Cakes. Best in OC and there bread always yummy and fresh!!! =)

Laura N.

Yelp
Parking lot is not pleasant but if you can pass that. The moment you walk into the bakery the smell will possess you. Then what impresses me the most above all the delicious freshly baked bread is the customer service. They really go above and beyond. It's really a hole in the wall bakery a true mom and pop operation. I always grab the birthday cakes for my family or celebrations. Always moist always full of lots of fruit. The cream not overly sweet just perfection. The tres leches cakes are my personal favorite but not limited to the Mexican bread Las conchas. They open really early and close super late. They take plastic.

Julia R.

Yelp
Wow this place is amazing. The Pan was delicious the people were nice. It was warm when I got it at 9am still well stocked. I will definitely be back for more it was delicious!

Michael J.

Yelp
I have been having a desire for sometime now to eat a Tres Leche cake and been coming to this bakery for over 15 years only buying their pastries in particular any empanada fillings which was always good. I finally had this Thanksgiving to buy one as my contribution to the family luncheon. I picked a medium round Coffee cake and let me tell you I looked at the cake several times during the day before transporting the valued cake to the relative's house. Ha, all the time eating I was thinking of tasting the cake to see If I picked the right bakery to purchase from. It was, very moist, very good taste. Just waiting for another opportunity to buy another cake to share with others.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Best pan dulce yes! When it comes to ordering a cake their a disaster. Ordered a cake yesterday to be ready by the afternoon.. turns out if they don't see the order in the back wall or back stock they don't make it. Called 30 minutes before driving all the way to get it got a response by a lady saying yes it was ready. Get there and turns out it's not ready at all or even made had to wait 30 minutes for it to be made. The decorations isn't even what we had written and planned out the day before, the cake seems like it was just rushed to be done and workers have a horrible attitude as if it pains them to do there job.

Willis P.

Yelp
I saw a lot of reviews for their tres leches and I was in a bind so I ordered here. Customer service was good but their tres leches left much to be desired. It wasn't horrible like the ones you find at El Super, but I don't get any if the hype. I would say on par if not just a cut above the ones you get at Northgate. Do yourself a favor and go to Porto's instead and get the one with the toasted marshmallow icing. That might sound like a travesty (referring a Cuban joint for a Mexican dessert) but hey, good cake is good cake. And yes, I've had really good ones in Mexico City.

Kia B.

Yelp
Came upon this place on my way to work and found it on Yelp as the easiest one to get to just by happenstance and boy was I lucky! I came to get my staff some conchas and they all loved it! I came back again and now it will be the spot to get some morning bread for the crew!

Elvira M.

Yelp
This is the best stop of comfort Mexican bread! Super fresh and yummy. And it's always fresh. So stop by and it's economical I went in to buy bread for two families and it was a lot of it like 4 bags full for like 30$

LeBrock B.

Yelp
I came early on a Friday morning when they first opened because we were having a pot luck at work. This was the only bakery open to avoid being late. I even called to make sure that way there wasn't any issues. When I got there they were open like stated. As soon as I walked in their set up was a little weird. I assumed you grabbed your own round metal plate and tongs to start getting your bread. As I went looking through their selection I thought there would be more available. I got what I could but of course I was looking for everyone's favorite - the colorful conchas. There was NONE. All they had was the mini ones in pink. A pan dulce bakery that doesn't have fresh conchas were a big no-no to me. Knowing I had to get something I ended up getting the only mini chonas they had left. Now I know I went really early but I assumed that regardless of how early you open the staff would get there earlier to prepare and bake what probably is the most sold items. To say the least, the bread I was able to get was good and did taste fresh. I just wish there was more selection.

Edith R.

Yelp
If this place had zero stars, I would do it. Don't get me wrong, the bread is amazing! But the SERVICE HERE SUCKS!!! The lady is sooo rude and has no shame. The owner needs to know so he can either get someone new or out her in the back. Never again! Trust me, my family will know and friends. I work a customer service place and I know good service, that isn't. El pan está delicioso pero que servicio tan horrible. La señora que grocera es. El dueño tiene que saber para que la heche a l cocina o la saque de allí.

Rocio J.

Yelp
I order a graduation cake in advance also paid inadvance the gal who took my oder assured me the cake would ve ready at 4pm. I showed up a little after 4pm and after waiting about 10 mint. They finally told me they had forgotten to make the cake and to wait 15 mint that it was on the way. The owner was so upset at me because I was questioning why the cake as not done. Instead of apologizing for not doing her job ans kept blaming the girl who took the original order. I finally got the cake after 45 mint and when I got the cake it showed it was made in a rush. The worst customer service ever and so rude. Will not be going back.

Silvia G.

Yelp
Got a tres leches sheet cake and although it was a good cake with strawberry filling, it didn't taste as tres leches: not very moist, no dripping milk, not very sweet... it tasted more like strawberry shortcake. Price was very good and service was friendly. Place is small and full with carts of bread that smell delicious. No extra charge if you use cc for purchases above $10.

Joseph T.

Yelp
Beautiful and delicious cakes and pastries!! Always order all my cakes here and never disappoints!

Melissa M.

Yelp
Awesome flan! Smelled wonderful and the other pan dulce looked wonderful, I will be going back. I felt safe- they enforced masks

Maria C.

Yelp
Came here last minute to pick up a gelatin dessert for the family and was not disappointed. The price was pretty good for the quality and size. Everyone liked it! Will come back for sure!
