To-Kai Sushi, Hibachi Steakhouse and Bar

We got the Vietnamese roll topped with spicy tuna dressing crab meat, cucumbers, spring lettuce and green spinach (to the left green rolls) and then we got Russian family roll with shrimp and last but not least crunchy Shrimp Dragon roll. Our server gave us hot wet wipes prepackaged, and was kind, attentive and gave us space. She was very professional in customer service experience! Thank you to her! The small vase of flowers are only for decoration not to take home. Those are real flowers! I’m definitely coming back again either alone or with company!

First time to come here and it was a delight. I ordered the Lenny Roll and also had the Steak and Chicken Hibachi. Everything was perfectly cooked and presented. The staff was very friendly and attentive which is hard to find as a general rule. One other thing to mention is that the immediate brought out the soup with YumYum sauce and the Ginger sauce. The Ginger sauce isn’t always available at every restaurant so it was great that this place offered it. FYI - YumYum is for the meat and Ginger for the veggies. Definitely recommend and will be coming back.

The food was very fresh and tasty. The cocktails were delicious. The service was very good.

We ordered sushi and an angry dragon roll, but the dragon roll had sharp bones in it that actually scratched my throat. This was really unpleasant and unexpected — sushi should never have bones like this. Very disappointing experience.

Delicious food and the drinks! We got the crunchy roll, shrimp tempura, and the sweet potato rolls. 10/10

Outstanding Restaurant ! After reading some reviews I took my family to this place to give it a try and we were very pleased with our experience. Nice decor,spacious table and a nice menu. The food was very tasty and authentic to their cuisine,fair prices and huge portions. My kids love the flavors and presentation of the plates. Our server was so friendly and attentive. If you are looking for a good dinning experience this is the right place.

Doesn't feel right with a shared table with a party of 6. The food is okay, not great. Service is alright with an 30 minutes wait for our cooker, even we're on time for our rsvp. They need more 👨‍🍳 . Fried ice cream (Green tea) I'd a must try dessert.

I was lucky enough to get a reservation this Saturday for a Birthday celebration of a friend there 11 In our party ! We had Hibachi dinner. The service was excellent, not to mention the hibachi cook was great he put on a good show and the food was excellent. I recommend this place for anyone who likes hibachi or regular sushi, but make sure you make reservations. The place was very busy.

Super fresh sushi and the hibachi is absolutely incredible. I can't recommend this place enough. The best in the entire area by far.

Hibachi here is so much more tastier and appears fresh in comparison to the usual spot I take my daughter. And the plates are huge! We came in to get some hibachi dinners, I got the regular one and she got the kids meal and wow! Both plates are bigger than our heads. Food came lit fresh and piping hot. So flavorful! The waiter was great too- I believe he said his name was Wing or something but he is super friendly and fast to get what you need. This is my new go to sushi spot. It's a bit more money than the one we usually go to but the flavor of the food and the service is consistent and worth the price, must try if you haven't been yet!

We stopped in this popular neighborhood Japanese sushi and hibachi restaurant. We both ordered sushi - rolls and a sushi salad. The food was fresh and tasty. The greeting was friendly. We were seated quickly. Our server was pleasant, helpful and attentive. All was good until I saw upon returning from the restroom a sushi chef drop a cucumber wedge on the floor, pick it up and start cutting it again! Very unsanitary. This is not acceptable and unfortunately this restaurant is now off of our list. I hope that the owner sees this review and takes appropriate action.

The family went out to dinner last night and we were greeted with friendly service. We were given a choice of seating options and seated immediately upon arrival. Overall the atmosphere was warm and welcoming as this is a location great for family gatherings. Most of the time I order sushi which is fresh and delicious. Today we all decided to try other options. Today's special was duck scrapple on bao bun. The bun was airy and delicious while the duck was juicy and flavorful. My children ordered hibachi meals which were basic due to the salmon and steak being overcooked (requested medium). The whole red snapper had good flavorful however could have been spicier. The lamb lollipops had good flavor unfortunately they were also overcooked (requested medium). In general it was a good experience.

Had this delivered last night from Tokai. The food was very flavorful and delicious. The food was a great portion as well.

The service here was great we were seated within 2 minutes of walking in the door. The hibachi here is so tasty and fresh compared to other places I've been too. I came here tonight with my sister and my niece. The food is great and the portions are huge. I recommend stopping here if you like sushi and hibachi.

Always a great experience here. Food is always on point with flavor... you don't even need the yum yum sauce, but of course the sauce gives the food even more flavor... even though the lemon drop looked a little too yellow, it definitely gave me the buzz I needed. Always a great experience especially if you're celebrating a birthday. They turn up with flashing lights and singing.

The lady was taking orders and wouldn't like my mother talk at all and then there was roaches coming out of the table a whole family. She kept asking to refill my glass I kept saying no and she did it anyway the cooker was burning food. there was cracks in the wall and cold in coming in no heating.

This place is absolutely incredible. I accidentally stumbled across it driving down Grant, took a chance and am so glad I did. Hands down, Best sushi I have eaten in quite some time, and the prices are stellar. Extra Bonus- You can plan a Hibachi party where they bring it to your house! Most times the fish tastes swampy, not here, the fish was absolutely deliciously fresh. You want a special roll? They've got it. You want the common ones? They make those too. There are 6 pages of rolls and, sashimi. Plus there is Korean as well as plenty of appetizer, noodle, and hibachi choices. The shumai is definitely handmade and absolutely delicious. They have the "gamble shumai" Roll two dice and get that amount of dumplings. So much fun! Usually, if you go somewhere, they say there's a roll special, but the rolls are usually ones that are boring They have a roll combo where it is 1 spicy salmon, one spicy tuna and one spicy California roll. Perfect! I am a huge fan, the food is incredible and I will definitely be going back. It has become my new sushi standard in the NE.

This is my first time coming here. It was a group of eleven of us. We were welcomed and seated when our party got there. Everyone was friendly. Took our orders and we watched our food being prepared for us. The chef was entertaining and funny. The food was tasty. Most of us had the chicken and shrimp and a couple of people had the chicken and salmon which all came with the white rice and vegetables. I definitely would go again! Also they sang happy birthday to me with music and lighted candle. Very nice outing!

10/10 restaurant. The food comes out fast and the service is great! The sushi isn't too pricey and the sushi is always fresh of course. The restaurant is modern and colorful, it really brings out the colors and ambiance of the restaurant. I recommend the Malibu Baybreeze if you don't want anything too strong!

We came here early this past Monday. We were the only ones seated because we came early and it was a Monday. Our chef was so friendly and engaging! He was also funny; he kept us entertained. We had the shrimp, steak, salmon, chicken, rice and zucchini. The steak I asked to be well done. The steak was not only well done but also tender. I can't stand when steak is too chewy. The shrimp was juicy and cooked for the right amount of time; no rubbery taste/texture. For our drink we choose a fruity drink with rum. Will I come back? Absolutely!

We drive past this huge Japanese restaurant whenever we visit Mom in Huntingdon Valley. Decided to finally order take out last night, since we didn't want to go out during a thunderstorm (mom is 88). Stopped in enroute and picked up a take out menu and woman at front register was very pleasant. Three hours later, we call in our take out and they said 15 minutes. Arrived in 20 minutes, as our bag was being brought out from the kitchen to the front register. We ordered 3 Hibachi Dinners, which come with clear mushroom soup and we added 1 sushi roll to the order. The food was very good and we had leftovers to take home for another meal. I'm not that much a fan of clear soup (most places give you miso soup) but it was fine by me. Enjoyed our meals (even finicky mom enjoyed her dinner) and will return soon, and dine inside next time.

Their presentation here is out of a magazine. They really take pride in their dishes. We enjoy the food and ambience everything we come.

My son took me out to eat at Tokai for my Birthday tonight with my grand sons. Food was delicious! However the service wasn't great, not friendly! the waitress was rude! my son ask for another ginger ale and she proceeded to say it's not all you can drink! My son owns his own Tattoo Shop and is doing very well! Doesn't need a free drink! I won't be eating there again! Respect is earned! Kindness cost nothing! I didn't say anything because my grandsons deserve to go out to eat and enjoy their experience. Waitress should not be serving tables if she isn't going to be friendly. A simple smile cost nothing! Ambiance N/A!

Fresh sushi! Very creative options. Cool vibe. Pineapple fried rice always amazing! Cool for a date night or a group outing with friends. The servers are great at explaining the menu and they provide good service.

When the order was delivered, the driver called and demanded to come out and give him a tip. He didn't see the tip I left through Yelp. This is incredible! Tipping is a bonus, but not an obligation for the client!

I enjoyed the food so much, I came here twice in one week. I hadn't stepped foot here in nearly 10 years. Parking is okay. It can be harder to find a spot on weekends. Both times I went, I did not have to wait for a table though. Once you're seated, you are given a hot towel to clean your hands. It's cute on the inside. It has a downtown vibe but is located in the Grant Ave shopping plaza. Reasonably priced food. For the appetizer, I got edamame, which was a large portion. Big enough to share with 2 others. Only $4.50. I ordered the vegetable gyoza the second time around and that was $5. Both were fresh and delicious! Service was good and the waitresses were friendly. They came to the table often to refill the water in my glass. I ordered a 5 piece crispy spicy tuna sashimi roll, $11. It literally melts in your mouth. You can also get this roll with salmon if you prefer. Although it isn't 50% off sushi, it's worth the price. I will be sure to stop in here again soon. It's so close to home and I never think to come here.

I personally didn't eat anything because I have allergies, but this was Awesome! The cooking was top tier, and hilarious as well!

We got takeout from here, all sushi items minus some miso soup and wontons, and all items were delicious. It was a little pricey for some of the sushi items but after enjoying it all, I think we paid for quality and it felt worth it. The only disappointing part was for the garlic tuna appetizer they called to let us know that they didn't have any of the garlic, just the sauce. Will have to try again with the garlic, but we truly appreciated the heads up and not just an "oh we didn't have that" and giving us the dish incomplete with no warning. Loved all the tuna sashimi we also got and can't wait to try this place again.

I've been here a few times and have never had a bad visit. The servers give you a warm towel to start so that's always a nice way to start your meal. The Litchi Martinis are delicious here but so are all of the cocktails they serve. I usually start with edamame and veggie dumplings (yum) and then order a few sushi rolls. This time was fairly basic with Crunchy Spicy Tuna Rolls...and they're so darn good. The crunch is a nice change. I love how the kitchen is open so you can watch the sushi chefs prepare your food. There is also a hibachi room which I think we'll try next time. This is an excellent sushi restaurant with a bar instead of being the usual BYOB as most sushi restaurants are. Never disappointed.

I went to Tokai for my birthday dinner, and it was a very fun experience. They gave me the birthday song, and a dessert with a blooming flower candle. It was super cute and I also enjoyed the food. Steak was very appetizing and service was pretty fast. I definitely recommend coming here.

Great food and service . We love this place since it's family friendly. Very nice portions and pricing are reasonable. Spacious seating so we even considered birthday parties there. We usually come at least once a month ! Love it

For my taste this place was just ok and a little overpriced. Maybe everything went up these days, but every roll was about $2 more then any other places you go to. And everything tasted sort of 'the same'.

The food here is absolutely incredible. They have great takeout options, but the indoor dining experience is where they truly shine. honestly better than many Michelin star restaurants i have been to. And its much more affordable. I walked over to the kitchen and I saw a chef processing gigantic hunks of fresh fish. The meat was breathing. He allowed me to get a better angle for a photo from a safe distance. I was in awe at the quality. Amazing food. Every time I eat here I have trouble believing i'm not dreaming. They also have great takeout options if i dont feel like eating in. I generally avoid fried food and tempura for takeout (for obvious reasons), but when I eat in I always get fried or tempura based rolls and never regret it. Their non sushi entrees are also incredible as well. I love their beef bulgagi. Generous portions, and michelin star quality.

TERRIBLE SERVICE!! Our server was very rude!! He talked to a bunch of teenage girls like they were 5. And he had no respect whatsoever. And we kept getting stared at by other employees.. I am very disappointed in the service here and will not be returning. We came for a birthday party and now wish we went somewhere else. VERY UNSATISFIED!! #WORSTBIRTHDAYEVER!

The sushi quality has definitely gone downhill. The sushi is not as fresh anymore. Sad because this was my go-to sushi place! The service is excellent though!

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants! The food is absolutely delicious and the service is always good. I ordered their catering services for a birthday party one year and I cannot even count how many people asked me where the food was from. Just amazing.

Very entertaining, the food was delicious, our chef was very entertaining and had a great sense of humor. Overall it was a very nice experience! Definitely worth the money! They also host birthday parties. The experience is 10/10. We got the shrimp/sea bass hibachi and the sea bass/scallop hibachi. Yummy.

We had some food delivered and had to say it was quite good for delivered sushi etc We order rolls , noodles and dumplings The only thing - the rolls are on the large side . I usually smaller rolls which make it easier to eat. But taste - it was good I had the crispy spicy tuna roll

Great lunch spot the sushi 3 roll special is great where else can you get a miso soup, ginger salad and 3 rolls for 13.50 . The sushi is awesome. Always a great place to eat

The hibachi is amazing, whether eat in or take out. The portions are huge. When dining in, the chef is entertaining and the food is delicious. The ambiance is clean and nothing spectacular, but I go there for the food. The service is adequate.

I had a wonderful dining experience here on a late Thursday night. I was impressed with the food, the service and the upbeat, but cozy, atmosphere. My dining partner and I started our dinner off with tuna tataki. The seared tuna was amazing. It was so fresh and literally melted in my mouth. I was also a big fan of the salad it came with. It had cashews in it which provided the perfect crunch. I was famished from the very start so I decided to go all in and ordered one of the roll combos. The one I ordered came with a soup, salad and three rolls: spicy California, spicy tuna, and spicy salmon. Was this a little aggressive? Definitely. Any regrets? Not at all. My meal was delicious! The salad came with a hefty amount of ginger dressing which I loved. The soup was underwhelming but the rolls I dove into next totally made up for it. All three of the rolls were good and once again, the fish was very fresh (fresh seems to be the keyword here, am I right?). I also thought everything was well rolled together. Service was prompt and there was little to no wait between dishes. This was much appreciated given how hungry we were! Our waiter was quiet but nice and attentive. He kept our water glasses full and took away empty plates/dishes without having to be asked. That's one thing I'm always quick to notice because it really bothers me to have empty, dirty plates lingering at the table. I noticed a lot of loud chatter and laugher amongst the dining crowd which made the restaurant feel very comfortable and casual. It also makes me think they have some regulars. The music was playing at an appropriate sound level the entire time we were there. I really enjoyed the cheerful environment! If you're looking for a fun but relaxing place outsider of the city to enjoy a sushi lunch or dinner, this is a great option. I'd be happy to return and try more of their rolls next time I'm in the area!

Wow this place never ceases to amaze me, I've never had a bad meal and I've been going here for years. Tonight I tried their lobster roll with salmon and avocado on top and it was fresh and delicious! Had a side of hibachi noodles and steak too also outrageously delicious, will be thinking about lunch tomorrow for my left overs

Still good, but slowly going downhill. Still better than most Chinese and Japanese food joints in the NE Philadelphia area. But prices have gone up whereas the quality of the food has plummeted. A year or two their sushi box was a piece of art. Same thing goes for the Hibachi Filet Mignon. Now both taste only slightly better than cardboard

for starters, this place was awful. staff was pretty nice. service was absolutely terrible, workers were extremely slow. took abt 2 hours for them to get our check. the food was ok, maybe eat here in a smaller group. this place is not fit for a large group, they don't know what to do Or what people orders were. ALSO make sure to look at ur receipt! they charge about $8 as a gratuity. with service like that you really don't deserve a top LET ALONE A $8 TIP. Disappointed. Don't come here.

This is some of the most excellent hibachi that I have had in a long time. (Take that with a grain of salt, because I don't have hibachi often and have only had it at a small handful of places.) But, let me tell you, the food was beyond delicious. I ordered the chicken and shrimp hibachi dish. At first, I was a little hesitant to pay just over $20 for the meal. When I tried the food, though, I could easily see why it was worth the price. Let me say that the portion size was ENORMOUS! The food actually came with some miso soup that was really good, and I was able to eat the food over the course of three different meals. The chicken and shrimp were cooked to perfection, and were seasoned just right. Alongside the two dipping sauces (Yum Yum sauce and I forgot the name of the other sauce), the meal was exceptional. Even the vegetables were cooked just right. I would come back, and I actually plan to come back very soon.

Been coming here for years and we absolutely love this place. Food is always fresh and service is always fantastic.

Me and my boyfriend went to Tokai Sushi the weekend before valentines day to celebrate early. Neither of us have flexible schedules and were looking forward to dinner and a movie after. The minute we walked in, buisness owners and staff were overwhelmed and made their presentation for everybody walking in feel anxious. There was no putting customers first, and me and my boyfriend were already sat and told to move and wait because they sat us first instead of the bigger party that walked in moments later. Generally not a relaxing environment at all, and felt like I could not enjoy my experience for our night out. And it's a shame because their sushi was very delicious, the external factors are the reason I won't be coming back any time soon.

This is the best sushi in the area, hands down. I even prefer it to most downtown places. The quality is amazing, always fresh, always tasty. Never ordered something I didn't like. They're not as expensive as people make it out to be. The prices are just right for the quality they serve. I'm always suspicious of sushi places that offer $2 raw fish rolls (50% off sushi as it's popular to call it these days). Sushi aren't supposed to be cheap, and if they are - stay away. Today I made a wrong order online and only realized it after they delivered it. I called back, explained the situation, offered to pay whatever needed, but instead they just sent the driver with the right order free of charge. This positive attitude is another reason why I've been eating Tokai once a week for years.

I highly do not recommend. Not friendly, not professional. The waiters are used to tips that are automatically indicated on the check and do not want to do anything. If you smile, then you are lucky.

I was craving sushi and this was the closest, decent looking place located a few minutes from my job. The 3 stars is for the Shrimp Shumai (3 pieces for $5 - horrible!) As for the sushi - it was good, not the best I have ever had but good. I ordered the Spicy Tuna and Shrimp Tempura. I would return to order only the sushi and will stay away from any of the appetizers because it was a rip off. Also, I suggest order for pick up because it does get busy during the lunch hour.

To-Kai is definitely my favorite Japanese restaurant in the Northeast Philadelphia area. Not only is it my favorite Japanese, it's one of the best restaurants in NE Philly. Whether you're looking for great hibachi or sushi, To-Kai somehow manages to hit the spot in all areas. My personal favorites are their spicy crab roll and their shrimp hibachi. The drinks from the bar are strong, and the service has always been solidly good. Definitely a must-try if you're around.

Make sure to ask for your sushi in separate containers or they will put them all together in one. Very rude employees and overpriced food.

Was better in the past. Service is spotty and prices have risen while quality has declined. I've found a better place.
