Epic Universe Offers Unique Theme Park Food and Drinks | Bon Appétit

"The primary sit-down option inside Super Nintendo World and one of the few venues in the park that requires advance booking, this café is the go-to place for guests seeking a true seated meal in that land rather than stand-and-eat snacks." - ByAnnemarie Dooling

We were at Epic for one day and my Mario-obsessed kid wanted to go here for lunch. The atmosphere is great, the inside looks super cool. Instead of the traditional theme park restaurant where you order at the counter, you wait in line to be seated and you order through the app. All of the food came out plated really cute but we were all extremely disappointed. I got the Caesar salad and it was so overly salty I could barely eat it. One of my kids got the Alfredo and it looked pretty dry but she didnt complain. My father in law got the Luigi burger and really didn't like it. We got the garlic mushroom dippers though and everyone liked those! I accidently ordered 2 kids spaghetti somehow which sucked bc it didnt get eaten. I tried it since I couldnt finish my salad but it was bland, cold, and not good. Food took forever to come to us but it was literally a full house so was expected. There were no staff anywhere except when dropping off your food so hopefully you get everything then. Overall it was a cool experience but I would not waste another $200 on lunch here.

This is a newly opened café inside Epic Universe (Super Nintendo World) in Orlando, Florida. The mushroom-themed design is super cute and really captures the Nintendo vibe🍄 Because it’s brand new, it was extremely crowded — we waited about 45 minutes just to get a table. While waiting, we picked what we wanted to order, so we placed our order right away using our phone once we were seated. Drinks came quickly, but the food took over 30 more minutes to arrive. The café has large screens playing Mario videos, which adds to the fun atmosphere. But honestly, the long wait made the experience a bit frustrating. We ordered Bowser’s cheeseburger, Yoshi’s chicken Alfredo pasta, and the tiramisu. The burger was a little tough, possibly because it had been sitting too long. The pasta sauce was also a bit dry. It felt like some of the food had been reheated rather than freshly made. Still, we were very hungry, so we enjoyed it anyway. Since it’s a new place, it seemed like the staff couldn’t keep up with the demand. They might need more employees or better organization to improve service. There’s definitely room for improvement😉 The concept is great and the space is adorable, but I hope they put more effort into the food — using fresher ingredients and serving meals right after they’re made would really help.

We came here after finishing all 3 rides (we had early access) and ate at around 11am. There was open seating when we arrived but when I stepped outside to use the restroom, a line was forming. There’s no one taking your order when you get to the table, you must use the universal app. The scenery? I was in awe. The vibes? Outstanding. The service? Speedy! The food was alright. Presentation was amazing. All the food pictured came out in less than 10 minutes. How do I know? Because I ordered and our food was on the table when I got back.

The immersion is done pretty well here and the menu is certainly fun for the kids. Food quality was above average for theme parks. Service is a little to be desired. Seems like the new parks really rely on you ordering on your phone and them just dropping it off. No real interaction with staff. It was slightly confusing because most ordered food on phone and thought you could skip the line because there was minimal staff there giving directions. I would eat here again and would recommend if there is a big Nintendo fan in the family.

Google
TLDR; The food was very good and was themed perfectly, despite other reviews claiming otherwise. I would absolutely come here again, if given the opportunity! For a theme park restaurant, this is everything that I expected and wanted. Yes, the food is not going to be a flavorful masterpiece, but it's not nearly as bad as other reviews make it out to be. There were no weird flavors, and our food was hot when it came out. The only "complaints", which are expected given the large scale operation here, was that the line took a little while and that the chicken on the Luigi Burger was a little bit dry. Outside of that, our food was very flavorful, warm, and themed excellently to match the vibe of the Mario world. I would absolutely be willing to come back here to eat if another opportunity to go to Epic Universe appears in my future! I do not think you can go wrong with anything on the menu, but given how I've only tried the Luigi Burger, Fire Flower Spaghetti, and the Toadstool Cheesy Garlic Knots, I can only vouch for the quality on those. Don't let the bad reviews turn you away from this fun theme park restaurant!

Google
We had a great experience all around at this restaurant. The service was quick and friendly and the food was great as well. The theme is fun and there are some scripted events that happen on a schedule which add to the atmosphere. Just as a word of warning, I normally find most "spicy" theme park food to be rather bland, but the Bowser's Fireball Challenge was actually quite spicy. I enjoyed it, but it was hotter than I was expecting.

Google
The theming is amazing and we loved how cute everything was. The booths are comfortable and each dish was adorable. The food was perfect for us. There are a lot of people complaining about mobile ordering, which I don’t know why since it is super easy and not that complicated. We have no issues here.

Google
Mushroom Soup 5 out of 5 for sure! Obviously if you don’t like mushrooms maybe the toadstool cafe isn’t friendly until dessert :) we ordered toadstool cheesy garlic knots and complete 5 out of 5. The super mushroom pizza bowl was 4 out of 5. The Yoshi Mushroom Alfredo was voted 4.5. Bowser’s fireball challenge was a solid 5 of 5. Let’s talk dessert tho… we aren’t really a coffee loving family so we rated the ? Block tiramisu a 1. If you like it generally then you would absolutely love it and the presentation was spectacular!!!! Mt. Beanpole Cake was voted 3.5 (it’s tasty). Now the show stopper… Princess Peach’s cake….was a solid 5 out of 5! And we cut it and shared with the table. We really enjoyed our visit!!! Was a great time and an opportunity to be cool and seated in between line rides!!

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with this place. Mario burger was actually really good! The Luigi chicken sandwich was okay. The chicken was kind of dry. The block was a decent tiramisu with the actual block being vanilla cookies. I got lucky and the line was not too long, and once you sit down, you order food on your phone, and set the table number on your order. Employees will then bring your food out when it's ready. So it's not actual full table service. Inside it's very chaotic and loud because Mario world gets very busy.

Yelp
Super cute idea, that has the potential to be a fun experience. Food had to be ordered through the app; app is super misleading in alerting what's happening with the order. It took a while after ordering to show it was received, took a long while to be prepared, said it was on it's way and then completed but food arrived 15 mins after that. We ordered the tiramisu, garlic knots, mushroom soup, and bean cake. Soup was brought out in a cut mushroom dish, but server told my daughter to hurry and take a picture because they will take it back when done at table. Soup was good, but not great. The tiramisu was blah, garlic knots were something I'd buy in the frozen bread section at my local grocery. The bean cake was the best item, but it by much. Hopefully Universal will figure out how to make this mean and overall experience 100x better than now.

Yelp
Service - people were really nice. Actual delivery of food was a little bit of a wait, once seated. Browsers Fireball Challenge, aka "the 1lb meatball" - large portion which can be shared between two people. Slightly spicy Mario Mini Burger Adventure - 1/3 lb patty was dry and cheese wasnt melted, served with cold vegetables Yoshi Mushroom Alfredo w/chicken - pasta was bland with no mushrooms. The mushroom "cookie" is a cheese cookie Overall, not sure if the food was worth the long wait in the hot sun.

Yelp
This place was hopping when we got there. Very geared toward young kids and families. The food looked good and seemed to be adequate portions. The staff are very fun and the environment was very appropriately themed.

Yelp
I was so excited to finally try out the Toadstool cafe in Orlando! I love Nintendo and Toad is one of my favorite characters. You can see him in the windows cooking it's so cute! I love how they set everything up. The servers here were really nice. You choose somewhere to sit and scan the QR code to order. You place the order in the app and they bring it to your table. We started with the Garlic Knots and to be honest these were not good. For the entree I got the Mario Burger. The presentation was cute with the little Mario hat and the mustache on the burger. It was also a pretty good burger! The best thing we had was the dessert, the Mt. Beanpole Cake. Wow they definitely surprised me. It was so delicious! All the layers went perfectly together. I would recommend you try this place out for the experience if you are a big Nintendo fan. Definitely try the Mt. Beanpole cake!

Yelp
Don't waste your time going here! They do not tell you how long to expect when you get in line, but it was an hour or more overall. The wait before you are seated was at least 30 minutes. They have you place your order before you sit, but you can't even have them start making it until you are seated, which then takes another 30 minutes. My meal said ready and completed for probably 8 minutes before it was brought to us. We were worried it was given to someone else. When I tried to as a team member, he was so frazzled to be asked questions and told me it would be another 20-30 minutes even though it said completed- luckily he was wrong. The food was maybe a 2/10. Only things good were the mushroom soup, kids cookie and the tiramisu. The Luigi burger was cold and bland. The truffle fries were just frozen fries with a truffle dipping sauce. The kids spaghetti I couldn't even eat- the sauce was so dry from probably sitting that it was as if there wasn't sauce at all. The garlic knot with it was cold and dry. The place is cute but we left hungry and annoyed to have wasted over an hour. I think they should let you have the order prepare and then once it says ready you can give the table number. Something to get things moving faster.

Yelp
Save your money everything we ordered was not good in the line to get in was ridiculous. You're better off eating anywhere else in the park. There was eight of us in our party while we were seated rather quickly for eight the food that we all ordered. Everything tasted terrible.

Yelp
Toadstool Cafe is one of the make dining-in options in Super Nintendo World. And just like Toad is known for being a little guy, I think this restaurant is far too small for the mass of crowds that will come to eat here. It seems like a really inefficient system. You order through the app, but then have to wait in line right when you walk in. Then, once they let you through the line, you walk to a new room to wait in yet another line where there's a bar for certain drinks, and you wait to get your table. Then, once you get to your table you scan it in the app and only THEN do they start making your food. We probably waited 20-30 just to get a table, then at least 30 minutes for the food. It was absolutely packed in there and it was just a preview day during mid afternoon not even prime lunch rush time. I am very curious how this will go when the park is open to all- it is super cramped. As for the food, it was alright. Nothing to call home for but it'll fill you up. I think the best thing is the creativity in naming and theming the food. We got the Luigi burger which came with a plastic Luigi hat and his famous mustache printed on the bun. It added to the fun for sure. It's definitely a cool scene inside and will make your kids heart or your own inner kid soar. They have screens all around with various Toads doddling around, and even once in awhile there's a little even that happens on them that can be entertaining. I'm glad I got to experience Toadstool Cafe at least once but it's probably one I'll avoid at Epic Universe now.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by the food! I especially enjoyed the desserts. We ordered the princess peach cake, which is big enough for at least 4 people. It has real fruit, including strawberries, raspberries, and apple, but oddly enough, no peaches! lol. Was delicious! Loved how light the icing is. It's more like whipped cream. The whole place was really cute inside. The screens were fun to watch too. While the staff was friendly and helpful, the service was really slow. I know they are still working through some things, so you have be patient and allow them some grace. After all they've only been open for a few months. We also tried the Bowser Meatball Challenge, which I thought was good, but not great. We tried a Mario burger, which was better than expected. The kids meal was a great value too.

Yelp
I don't know why they have such bad review. We loved it. It was actually easier and faster than the one in LA. We didn't have any trouble ordering on the app and getting a table almost right away and the food was pretty good. The cost is what you expect for a theme park. Would definitely come here again. Also love that the kids were entertained by the toad in the windows.
google avatar

Jasmine L.

Yelp
This review is wildly biased because I love Mario world so much and visiting this park was my child hood dream come true! But if you are a serious Mario fan like me... you have to eat at toadstool cafe! It's the immersive dinner experience that your inner Mario lover needs. There are scenes playing in the window which are super cute and will entertain you while you wait. Also... the food is super cute and very on theme. The only thing I could have passed on was the garlic knots... they were okay and they weren't very themed. The bowser challenge meatball has a kick so be ready! The Mario cheeseburger was solid! The tiramisu was great! And it being a Q box made it that much better! I will be back here for sure!

Yelp
Ordered the Fire Flower Spaghetti and Meatballs and the Mt Beanpole Cake. The spaghetti noodles were thick, but not over cooked. The meatballs were tender and had a mildly spiced kick to them. I know, spiciness is relative, but I enjoyed them very much. I will say, it might be a little spicy for kids. The Beanpole desert was light and fluffy with hints of a chocolate mousse. It's a basic meal and not gourmet, but it's pretty good and I would order either one again.

Yelp
This is the cutest eatery located inside the Epic Universe. The wait is very long, equivalent to that of a ride (this was a Tuesday late July) at about 60 minutes. After the wait to get seated, you order on the app and must have a cc for payment. Tap not accepted here. After ordering, the wait to receive food is about 30 minutes. I ordered the Power Up Spaghetti and Mt. Pole cake and my daughter got the Chef Toad Herb Chicken Special (bone-in). The spaghetti was bland, what you would expect for a child. The Mario themed crackers were edible. The candy coin that came in the box was delicious. The cake was good but a tad too filing and sweet for my personal liking. My daughter loved it. She also really enjoyed the chicken, a single herb thigh surrounded by crème and tomatoes. Overall it was what was expected by a theme park, though not comparable to Disney cuisine.

Yelp
This was such a fun experience!! The thing you're coming here for is the atmosphere & experience. I completely understand the other low rated reviews BUT keep in mind this is a brand new restaurant in a brand new park that gets flooded with people all times of the day. We went first thing as a super early lunch while everyone swarmed the rides. The employees were super friendly. The food: I got the chef toad herb chicken. It was a lot better than expected! The cream sauce really helped pull this dish together. It came with roasted potatoes, spinach, and slices of roasted tomato. The potatoes were so good. The chicken was a little dry, and that's the only issue I had with the dish. My husband got Bowser's fireball challenge. It was a huge meatball covered in tomato sauce & cheese and topped off with a Bowser shaped pastry. Note: this was pretty spicy (I can't handle much spice). It's literally just a spicy meatball with sauce, so there's not much to it lol. We also got the viral block tiramisu. I was hoping the outside part would be made of white chocolate, but it was made out of a flavorless wafer. Was it the best tiramisu I've ever had? No, but it was a fun thing to order if you have the extra spending money. Atmosphere: this was almost as enjoyable as a ride in my opinion. Keep in mind, we got there first thing and there were only two other occupied tables, so we had a very different experience. Each window plays a little video of the toads working or walking around. There is one part that has Bowser fly in and all the toads go running off screen. How cute! I would definitely add this to the list of things to do while you're at this park.

Yelp
The restaurant was very adorable decorated. Every once in a while, the Bowser attacks and the light of the restaurant would flick and darkened a bit with the screen around the restaurant walls showing the animation. I was a bit skeptical about the food but it turned out great. Many people complained about the patty inside the Mario burger being dry, however I like my burger well done so it just perfectly matched the way I liked. Plus I really love mushrooms. The Garlic knots were good, wished I had a bigger stomach to order Fire Flower Spaghetti and Meatballs to go with it. Princess Peach's Cake could really feast for 4 adults so I was happy that I didn't order too many things.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
The food here was amazing! The princess peach cake is definitely something you need multiple people to eat. The service was outstanding since the team took the time to explain the process, dishes and service. The restaurant is very well themed you literally feel like you are eating in the Mushroom Kingdom! However beware Bowser attacks every so often! Over all definitely a power up for your day and continue your adventures in Epic Universe!
google avatar

Amber B.

Yelp
Toadstool Cafe is a fun place to eat especially if you have a Nintendo-crazed fan in your family. The food is par...it isn't Italian fine dining, but it is definitely a step up from typical theme park food. You are eating here for the nostalgia, the ambiance, and the theming of the food. Our party had burgers (which were good), spaghetti (ok), and the Bowsers Challenge One Pound Meatball...(ok). The staff doesn't stop moving as there is constant turnover happening. The restaurant itself is super fun!
google avatar

Danielle J.

Yelp
A lot of hype and cutesy food options but nothing tastes good. Get The Mario burger if you're into unseasoned patty covered with canned mushroom soup, tomatoes and bacon. Really odd to have all those things on it and still taste like nothing. And the Luigi "burger" which is a chicken sandwich with a really strange aioli and a fat green pepper on top. The combo is just really strange. I wish I had gotten the spaghetti lol. The decor is on point tho and service was very quick, I'll give it that.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
WOWZA! I CANT BELIEVE TOAD MADE THAT. I am a little concerned with the amount of mushrooms on menu. Hopefully does not come from toad brethren. I'm trying not to think too hard on it but it is currently 3:am and I can't fall asleep. Give chef toad my best regards.
google avatar

Ibrahim C.

Yelp
The service at universal is the worst. I was at the toadstool cafe and was drinking Coca Cola but then an employee bumped into me while I was sitting down on our table, which caused it all to spill on my clothes and all of my tood and my iPhone and Nintendo switch 2 and the employee didn't even say sorry and just told us to use napkins so she didn't even take the responsibility Ps they didn't even give us fresh food and said that we had to buy more. O stars.
google avatar

Loc H.

Yelp
The experience of the decoration is what I expected when eating inside a theme park. I expected overpriced dishes with cool looking decorative so with this expectation, it didn't feel short to me. Don't expect high qualities foods for restaurants here and you won't be disappointed so much.
google avatar

Carson G.

Yelp
Very well themed. This place is frequently packed but rightfully so. I got the Bowser Meatball challenge and it was very very hot (I did put the hot sauce on it, so it was by choice), and I loved it. Highly recommend making a stop, even if the line is long.
google avatar

Julyssia O.

Yelp
I loved the atmosphere in this restaurant! I truly felt like I was in the game with every detail. I loved how you could even see the toads in the kitchen cooking our meals! We had the Luigi Burger, which was a pesto chicken sandwich with green pepper and fries, and came with a mini reusable Luigi hat pick! We also tried Bowsers Fireball Challenge, which was a 1lb meatball sitting on mushroom marinara sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese and the FLUFFIEST croissant-life Bowser shaped bread! This one also comes with a Bowsers castle flag reusable pick. *everything but the bread in this dish is spicy* You can order with a QR code on your table that directs you to the app. I think this is a great feature for food in theme parks especially, since you can track the status of your food and keep track of theme park time!
google avatar

Gonzalo P.

Yelp
Best part was zero wait time for a table and the ease of using the app. Cute decor but the food was bland , chicken sandwich was tough and dry while the Alfredo meal made my son's stomach hurt. We had to leave the park to get him some pepto. Can't believe at these prices they can't make simple tasty fresh food.

Cherish L.

Yelp
The app to order said it was self order and quick service. That was not true. Epic Universe is new, but we waited in lines for rides and food. This place we waited at least 30 minutes and maybe another 20 minutes for the food to arrive. The graphics on the fake windows were cool, but seating was really cramped if you did not sit at a booth. Workers were nice though.

Mary D.

Yelp
Wait is way too long after you place your order, ready to bail after 60 minutes with still no food

Joe G.

Yelp
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Spent 1.5 hrs in line just to get in; then waited 1.5 hours more for an order (with a gluten allergy) and GF bun. After an hour we asked 3 separate wait staff for any update and the 3rd staff member finally brought us the food herself. If you go to Mario world with kids just know there are really no food options - it's now almost 4pm and we've been on 2 rides at Epic (Ministry of Magic & Yoshis Adventure). Food is good but service and waits are WAY too long.

Betty R.

Yelp
We spent 2 full days in Epic eating and drinking our way around the park and Toadstool Cafe was by far the worst. I got the Luigi Burger which was listed as a grilled chicken sandwich. Instead I got a BOILED piece of chicken that was colorless and so unappetizing that I couldn't even eat it. The only good part of the meal was the fries and the aïoli - but absolutely not worth ordering again. I did enjoy the tiramisu block. It was cute and tasty. My brother got the 1 pound meatball, which he said was dry but edible but he felt like it needed to be served with a side of noodles. My 9 year old niece got the kids spaghetti, said it was "ok but I would try something else if we come back." Yes, the theming is cute and loads of indoor seating but the food quality just isn't there for what you are paying. Epic has so many other great quick service places - All the food in Paris (HP) and Pizza Moon were our faves. Walk in, check out Toadstool Cafe because it is adorable and then go eat some place else!

Eli B.

Yelp
I am slow to anger but I toe the line at having to wait 40 plus minutes to get my food whereas the others in my party got their entrees within 10-15 minutes. The atmosphere itself was pleasant but felt rushed as if they didn't value the customer and just wanted to get the next dollar. I would NEVER recommend eating here, although the food itself appears cute it is proven to be mediocre at best. It also shows in its performance of the food, nothing is put together and could be compared (presentation wise) to that of a school lunch. Eat there only if you feel the want or need to watch others eat before you while you ask multiple times where your food is. I stand by my opinion of the Cafe and disagree with many of its policies, such as them removing ONLY the cheese from items rather than others which could be a serious allergy issue for many. Universal itself has given me a wonderful and almost magical experience, however this specific place greatly lowers your standards for Universal Studios as a whole and should be dealt with accordingly. Hope this helps!!
