First time at this location. Compared to the one on Woodward this was a tad bit better food wise. Food: biscuits and gravy; mexi Benny; smoked fish plate: Greek omelette. My daughter enjoyed the fish plate. The smoked white fish was a tad too salty for me. She also enjoyed her omelette. The biscuits and gravy were hot and good. The gravy was made with turkey. My Benny was cold. I ordered grits, but received potatoes. Nothing frustrates me more than food that should be served hot and is not served that way at all. Another reason why I have cut back significantly on dining out, aside from being served cold food, GRATUITY. At 20%, I will pass on returning. To pay ~$15 for someone to take my order and bring me the food is ridiculous. I would rather you pay your employees a fair wage, increase the cost of food and eliminate gratuity altogether. The service was not that great. I also did not like having to sit in the window. I was on display for 1.5 hours. We walked by so many other tables that were empty. I assumed they were being held for larger groups but that wasn’t the case at all. All in all, food was ok, service could be better and get rid of the display window seat. It was a little too chilly outside for that to be anyone’s seat.

Love this place! Delicious, creative food. Great staff! Super friendly. Busy but efficient. Local cherished favorite!

Maya was wonderful! The cherry French toast special was definitely the highlight. The chicken and waffle was our second favorite because of the flavorful crispy chicken. You can go wrong with this place!

Google
Toast is a comfy little breakfast spot in downtown Birmingham. The menu has everything from fish, omlettes, pancakes to poutine. The food we had was phenominal and the atmosphere and service was top notch as well. We were fortunate enough to get a booth in the window display which was very intimate and the rest of the space was charming as well. Check this place out!

Google
Our first time here but will certainly not be our last. A very wide-ranging menu and intriguing coffee and drink options. We each settle on omelets, I had the wild mushroom and my wife had the parisian. Both of us were extremely satisfied. We also learned that every trip here must include the parmesan grits. They were excellent in their own right but the disc of melted cheese that accompanied it was a fantastic addition. Service was fast and very friendly and helpful. We will absolutely be coming back next time we're in the area!

We were eating out as a family enjoying our day off. We understood with it being a holiday that there would be a wait. After waiting the 30 plus minutes we recieved a text notifying we were able to be seated. Everything was intially great. Our table places the order and our server who was super sweet accident brings us someone else’s dish. Instantly apologizes and states since this is not yours I will comp this meal because you couldn’t eat it and it’s not ready. We finally get the correct order of pancakes… the first stack was good until we cut into money. A quarter was in between the layers of pancakes. Absolutely disgusting, the manager apologizes and does nothing further. I was extremely disappointed because we had already fed our children from this plate. Not the servers fault but definitely wondering what was going on in the kitchen and what else we may of consumed. Intially I thought it had to be a prank. Needless to say won’t be back after the wait time and then consuming a health hazard.

Google
Toast in Birmingham, MI, is undoubtedly the best brunch spot in town, and our recent visit affirmed its stellar reputation. The vibrant, welcoming atmosphere set the perfect tone for a delightful meal, further elevated by Jackie, our exceptional server. Her keen attention to detail and warm hospitality showcased Toast's commitment to excellence, transforming our brunch into an unforgettable experience. From the beautifully presented dishes to the exquisite flavors, every aspect of our visit was impeccable. Jackie’s expertise and enthusiasm truly highlighted Toast’s dedication to making every meal memorable. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a top-notch brunch experience.

Yelp
I really like Toast. It is a swanky boozy type of brunch place that you can have a great afternoon with friends and/or friends and walk away feeling good. The menu is plentiful though lacking in vegan options. The cocktail and beverage menu has many options so even the most discriminating beverage connoisseur should be able to find a beverage to their liking. Service is great. The ambiance is whimsical and special. If you're an egg eater you'll enjoy the multitude of available omelettes and there is much more to choose from if you're vegetarian. Again they do need to add a few options to make this a good place for vegans. The price is reflective of the great experience and ambiance you'll experience. My family enjoyed our brunch. I would say this is a better place for adults than a younger crowd. But certainly if necessary you can find something on the menu for children.

Shelley K.

Yelp
Service was superb, and the food was just as good. Ordered an egg white omelette, pancakes and French toast. Delicious!!

Yelp
Love this place! I only wish it was open a bit later. We stopped in to take a break from holiday shopping. Inside the decor is festive for the winter holiday season. We kept it simple with bloody mary's and the maya (Sp?) fries. The Bloody Mary was excellent. The fries were decadent - more than enough for two people to share. The brunch/breakfast menu looks excellent.

Bridgette Z.

Yelp
I remember eating here prior to Covid and really enjoying it but today was my first time back in a few years. It's still really busy and the menu is a little different than what I remembered. I wasn't particularly impressed with the food this time around. I had the Mexi hash and there was nothing spicy about it. It was good but kind of bland. All of us liked our food but nothing really stood out. We shared the cheesecake waffle and it had an embarrassingly small amount of cheesecake on it lol like you can see in the picture each waffle piece had like a dot of cheesecake on it. That would have been much tastier if they put an appropriate amount on. The drinks were good though, I really liked my gimlet and my friends enjoyed the bloody Mary's

Maureen S.

Yelp
Food great but pricey. Top service and fun friendly staff. Go early on the weekends or prepare to wait. We have never had a bad meal here and if you enjoy champagne with your breakfast or brunch you will cheerfully receive a bottle. Egg dishes are very tasty, pancakes and waffles too. Sandwiches are nicely flavored as are the salads. Bravo!

Sapha H.

Yelp
We were in town and stopped by here on a Thursday morning for breakfast and it did not disappoint. The decor is really cute. We were seated right away and our waitress helped us quickly. We ordered the mushroom omelette with jalapeno cheddar challah, home fries, and French toast. Everything tasted great and we had plenty for leftovers. Would definitely recommend this place for breakfast if you're in the area.

Katerina L.

Yelp
Nice cosy ambiance, great breakfast/brunch selection and a full bar to go along. Portions are good size - enough to take home leftovers. Omelettes are delicious and come with choices of sides. Cheesy grits was so good!

Elaine W.

Yelp
Pleasant experience. High quality food, very fresh ingredients, and beautiful presentation. Have to say it's better than the other Toast location in Ferndale. Also good ambiance. Large menu selection. Friendly and attentive server. Food also came out super fast (like 5 mins). Got their oat milk latte for $7.50. Nice presentation and no complaints. Breakfast enchiladas (~$18) was recommended to me by my waitress. I replaced the black beans with fresh fruits. Enchiladas was well made. Very filling, ok flavor (little bland, better after adding some hot sauce). Probably wouldn't order again because wasn't unique enough. Didn't taste the kids pancake but impressed by the presentation of it. Overall would return for ambiance. Maybe would try some other items next time.

Sophia Z.

Yelp
It was lovely to have Sunday breakfast here. We were waiting for the table about 15-20 min. So if you decide to walk around while you waiting, you want to be around. Because they send you notification that you have 5 min to secure your reservation. (Little advice) Food and coffee were awesome! We wanted to have breakfast outside, what was pretty good. It wasn't too loud and we had nice place in shade.

Ben H.

Yelp
I've been hearing about the French press "banana coffee" from my sister for sister weeks. Our taste differs, I didn't find it extraordinary. What I found extraordinary was the broccoli omelette. Wow. The cheese sauce on top of the omelette was like good hot fudge on a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I hit the jackpot on my side dishes, The fried rice and challah toast were that good. Our waiter was awesome but I am docking a star for the automatic gratuity added. I think that's weird and wrong and later found I unknowingly tipped 40%.

Samantha M.

Yelp
I would give this place five stars BUT there are a couple of drawbacks. The parking is horrible if you want a spot close by. Second major drawback the wait time on a weekend is so long! However if you go on a weekday it is much better most of the time! Now that those are out of the way. The ambiance inside is cute and there are plenty of tables inside and out! Which is cool if you want to enjoy the few months of summer by eating outside! The food is great. Everything on the menu is spot on. The mimosas are great for Sunday funday brunch! The service is excellent every time I go they staff is friendly and on point. The variety on the menu also has something for everyone. Even the pickiest eater I went with was satisfied with the meal as a whole.

Czara V.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cozy spot after a walk with my hubby. The reviews looked great, so we thought we'd give it a try. So glad we did because the food was amazing! We each had the curious George iced coffee (banana flavored coffee) and that was so delicious! I ordered the beet omelet with the side of bacon fried rice and BRUH - that rice was EVERYTHING. So flavorful! My husband got the chililaques, which he thought was super good but could've used more spice. We shared the pound cake French toast and seriously had to roll ourselves out of there. Everything we ordered was AMAZING. Service is impeccable. Everyone seems genuinely nice and very attentive without being overbearing. We sat outside - which was a nice setting with the comfy outdoor furniture and perfect for people watching. This spot is a must try if you're ever in the area!

Sohaib L.

Yelp
The Parasian omelet was excellent. Chèvre in the omelette hit the spot. The bananarama waffle was good but I can't brag about it, just felt basic bananas and waffle put together. The server was awesome, he was patient while we decided on what to get given it was my first time there. The place was nicely decorated for the holiday season, plenty of seating.

Moeen C.

Yelp
Food and service are okay, but not a fan of the automatic 20% gratuity. I didn't feel that I got my moneys worth. Maybe it's the ambience and the fact it's in downtown Birmingham, MI that you're charging for? $20 per serving for an omelette is excessive, and the quality didn't surpass what I could do at home for less with higher quality ingredients. But, ymmv.

Jacque S.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! Best brunch. The dirty cowboy omelet is delicious, cinnamon challah bread amazing, and Parmesan grits are scrumptious! Maya was our server and was the best. Cannot wait to visit again!

Juan A.

Yelp
I ordered some very simple potatoes. I wanted them hot they came in twice cold the third time they were hot, it took me 30 minutes to get a waffle. Poor Service and I wore a Trump hat don't go. If you're a Trump lover.

James P.

Yelp
Toast is the only place to have breakfast in Birmingham. The mushroom omlette was unique with ricotta cheese and flavors to salivate for. The cheesecake waffles almost constitutes a desert and it's all in a beautiful setting with plenty of outdoor seating if you prefer.

Andrea H.

Yelp
Great vibe, ambience, staff. Went for bfast and the menu was impressive. I asked our enthusiastic waitress if I should have the parisian omlette or huevos. Without thinking, she replied, " huevos are much more exciting." I ordered and they were exciting and delicious with mounds of avocado, beans and all else that goes with it. I'm happily stuffed. Coffee prices, however, were ridiculously high. French Press for 2 was $13 and tea was $4.50. Without taking that into consideration, a definite great way to start the morning.

Dillon A.

Yelp
Food is nothing special at all and the service was HORRIBLE!! She dropped our food off and never came back after that. Even when we were done, we had to wait 20 minutes until we got our bill. A little ridiculous that there's an automatic 20% gratuity, and this is the service you get. Definitely will not be returning, and would not suggest anyone comes here. Much better places for brunch in the area. My favorite is common wealth! Check it out!

Zack K.

Yelp
I used to come here all the time and I loved toast hash after they changed it .. it doesn't taste good like before the corned beef is horrible and the plate looks disgusting see the picture attached. I gave one star and I will change it to five stars when you guys changed it to the way it was

Lucian L.

Yelp
Amazing little place. We ate there a few times over a long wedding weekend and it was amazing. The cinnamon roll is off the chart and the Nova Scotia Benedict was my favorite, I had it twice

Lady D C.

Yelp
As other reviews have stated, I don't agree with the automatic 20% gratuity. The server came 3x. Give us our water, take our order and give us the check. I had to give our card to another server. Food. Coffee was good but didn't like the silver spoon they put inside the mug. Why do that? Trashy hash. Just like the name. Trashy. It was mushy and bland. Like someone's throw up. Maybe ask them to take out the gravy? Cuz it did nothing for the food Enchilada. Again, bland and not much to eat. The black beans looked like they were molded and / or old dry. Didn't even touch it. Conclusion Will not be dining here again. The food was not worth the 40 min wait for Sunday 2pm

Arturo F.

Yelp
Solid brunch place, with good Bloody Mary's (though I wish it was more customizable). Food is always good but not great -- recently, I had the huevos rancheros, and it was a yummy dish but they could absolutely use better, spicier salsa. Reservations very much recommended as it can get busy on weekends. Parking isn't great around the area, so you might have to drive around a bit to find a spot and then walk a couple of blocks to get there. Service is a bit on the slow side, but decent enough for a busy brunch spot.

Alex J.

Yelp
Love toast, every time I visit I am delighted by the food that I choose. Definitely a great breakfast/brunch place to visit. Love their bloody Mary's.

Jamie K.

Yelp
Toast is always a solid choice for brunch. The food is flavorful and the atmosphere is fun. We sat on the patio and although it was a little tight to get around it was nice to be outside. The staff was friendly. The mighty Aphrodite was delicious and had tons of different flavors. I also always get the banana coffee here because it's delish

Thair N.

Yelp
I came to toast on Feb 10th 20224 for breakfast. The servicer only came twice ,one time take our order and one time to get her check. First: The waiter made us feel she was not obligated to give a good service because she knows her 20% tip is already going to be taken. Second: The egg in omelette tasted funny, not sure if something wrong with egg or was the type egg they use, but definitely both of us had food poisoning over the weekend. This will be our last time to try this place. Not to mention my order was made wrongly but I accepted to keep eat. This review is for the poor establishment etiquette of adding an "auto-tip" to the bill. Tips are freely given as an expression of gratitude for service received. To the establishment: Charge more for your menu if you wish, *pay your staff fairly* , leave the tip for your customers to manage themselves. I encourage all to patronize establishments that live by these rules, and regardless of what "auto tips" are placed, leave your own total on the credit slip as *you* feel appropriate.

Peyton S.

Yelp
Very cute breakfast place. All the food was amazing and service was fast! Great location to sit outside and have breakfast at!

Eniyayel R.

Yelp
The bacon-fried rice earns high praise. The dish masterfully integrates the savory essence of crisped bacon with the nuanced flavors of perfectly seasoned rice. Each grain, a canvas absorbing the symphony of tastes, showcases culinary finesse. The judicious balance of textures, from the bacon's delightful crunch to the rice's tender embrace, elevates this creation. As a chef would commend, the meticulous execution manifests in a delightful harmony, making it a palatable experience.

Autumnn G.

Yelp
I haven't been here in years but this was once a regular fav. The patio was full but I went inside and sat at the bar where there were plenty of seats. Ordered the passion fruit mimosa, Why So Blue pancakes, chicken sausage and Parmesan grits. The bartender was very nice and helped me quickly. Everything was amazing, the grits and sausage were just like I remembered, cheesy, flavorful and cooked to perfection. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious I just wish I had a little more of the lemon ricotta. I definitely won't take so long to visit again.

Carole W.

Yelp
Holy crap, this loaded coffee!? TOAST is fun and I love how they change their menu often and have fun features. Great little lunch or brunch spot.

Amy B.

Yelp
If you like eggs, try the Broccoli Cheddar omelet! It was perfectly cooked and has a fantastic cheese sauce poured on top. I was thrilled with the options we chose. Docking one star as the food/drinks are a bit pricey and I do wish the restaurant took reservations.

Michelle D.

Yelp
Delicious brunch place with a lovely ambiance. The interior is cozy with a somewhat European vibe. The menu serves typical brunch items such as pancakes, waffles, skillet, bennies, and more with a personal twist. I went for Petoskey omelette, which has fantastic flavor, but I wish could have been slightly fluffier. Very delicious, regardless. You can sub the side with fruit cup, which I did, and the fruit cup was great. Generous amount of berries. My friend ordered hot chocolate and avocado toast, which scores huge aesthetical points. That hot chocolate is a winner for winter for sure. The chicken and waffle also looks great. Service is nice and quick. Our water are always filled and the staff check on us often, without being overbearing. The price is a bit more pricey, but I think it's proportional to the overall experience.

Chad C.

Yelp
Enjoyed the beet goes on! Courtney always provides great service at the bar for breakfast , Bloody Mary, and/or coffee.. I suggest a caramel cappuccino. Huevos rancheros is also a great portion and tasty as well as the eggs Benedict.

Florina K.

Yelp
The decor reminds you of a scene in a movie. Comfy couches, booths, and bar tables add a nice touch. Friendly staff who provide great service and offer nice recommendations. The food was very yummy. You definitely have to check out the hot chocolate because it is every chocolate lover's dream. The omelette was delicious and the French toast was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this place. Make sure to walk around the neighborhood and check out cute boutiques nearby.

Yahsha M.

Yelp
We've been wanting to try this place for awhile, but it's always packed on the weekends. We finally stopped in on a random day of the week and it was great. Our waitress was pleasant, and the perfect mix of being attentive when necessary and leaving us be while eating. The food was delicious, and the seating was so cute. It felt like you could've been eating brunch at home. We will definitely be back.

Subramanian A.

Yelp
Amazing food and ambience! Try the outdoor seating during summers. Would definitely recommend.

Haydn K.

Yelp
The food was very good they had a lot of options from sweet to savory. The ice vanilla latte (IVL) was one of the best I've ever had! Our waitress was amazing and super kind and patient we asked her about a few things on menu and she went out of her way to bring us free samples to try. The style of the texture was very cool it was bright and well lit with a rustic feel. 10/10 expletive will be going back soon!

Sabrina R.

Yelp
Cute little brunch spot with a lot of toast options and decorated with toaster appliances from decades ago. I ordered their French toast with blueberry and lemon ricotta. It was wonderful but did not quite fill me up (only two slices) whereas my other family members ordered scrambled eggs that came with two sides and four pieces of bread and had so much leftover they couldn't finish their meal. If you are hungry, ask what the portions are like for what you are ordering to be sure you are getting enough to eat. It's interesting that they use Yelp for their reservation system however Yelp would not show that this place took reservations/checkins in the app. So not sure what happened there. Service was decent, however they messed up my dad's order twice forgetting to bring his beverage and mixing up his side dish for another. They have a lot of rules posted on the front of their menu such as a mandatory 20% tip automatically added on the bill and once you order something, they will not take it back or exchange it. Once you put your name in on the waitlist, they will not let you wait inside the restaurant, so be prepared to wait outside or park nearby so you can sit and wait in your car. I would probably come back with friends if they plan it, but not take my family back next time they visit Michigan after this. It's too pricey for the experience we had.

Mark B.

Yelp
I had my girlfriend over from out of town and wanted to take her on a little brunch date and this was a local spot that looked pretty good. Just a heads up for those interested in coming here on a weekend, it will get quite busy! We were not able to sign in on yelp remotely, we had to go there in person to sign onto their waitlist. There were about 20 parties ahead of us and I would say took roughly 30-40 mins on a Saturday around noon. Luckily it's a nice area and stores that are walking distance away so we were able to kill time. I will also note that there's plenty of street parking around and even a parking structure that's not too far away from the restaurant. Once we finally got seated we loved the ambiance and cool decor of the restaurant. It was also a lot bigger than we had initially thought. The service here was top notch and even with how busy the place was they took good care of us. I decided to order the Chicken and waffles with a side of Country grits and Bacon fried rice while my girlfriend got a scramble. It was quite solid! A little bit more on the pricey side but still good. Overall a good experience and would recommend trying it out if you are in the mood for brunch.

Theresa B.

Yelp
Service was excellent. Good food. Busy & a fun atmosphere . 5)4 omelette was tasty great bread & the bacon rice is delicious. We will return. No reservations... so a bit of a wait.

Mark C.

Yelp
Wow - we could not believe we would have a bad experience ever here, but Saturday we did. So sad as we are here visiting family and carved out a time to sneak over here. I can safely say we were not the only unsatisfied table around us. We were quickly seated and nicely greeted. It took 15 minutes for our server to stop by, so we went ahead and ordered our meal and coffee at the same time. We had to ask another server to bring us coffee and they were happy to oblige. My wife got her Shrimp and grits but they never brought me my bacon fried rice. I had to wave another server down to look for it. 15 minutes later I got my dish after my wife had already ate hers. The exact same thing happened at the two tables near us where one got food and the other didn't. I was not going to leave a generous tip as the issue was service and not the kitchen. However, we got our bill for two people and they automatically added a 20% gratuity. No way was that service worth it. We will give them another try in October when we are back in town, but sadly disappointed for this experience.

Russ C.

Yelp
Toast has everything you want from a breakfast cafe. Cocktails if that's your preference Excellent selection with great quality and very friendly server's It's a relaxing experience with a laid back feel

Sarah M.

Yelp
I popped in for an early Christmas brunch with my boyfriend over the weekend. The waitlist went by a lot faster than what we were originally quoted, which is good, but make sure to be nearby because they were quite strict on releasing your reservation if you don't come within 5 minutes. It was really festive inside with a lot of decorations for the holidays. It was quite charming and had a very homey ambiance. I had the campfire hot chocolate with a shot of espresso and it was delicious! We started with the pumpkin cinnamon roll (not pictured) that helped satisfy our sweet tooth craving. The entrees were delicious. I had the huevos rancheros with chorizo and my boyfriend had the Hamtramck Skillet, which had delicious pierogies and kielbasa. Would definitely recommend if you're looking to uplevel your brunch.

Fawn M.

Yelp
I came here for brunch during a visit to Michigan, it was just ok. The service was ok, our server was very busy so I understand the less than personable vibe, she was not rude but was also not personable. I had the Wild Mushroom omelet and bacon fried rice. The omelet lacked season, I didn't eat much of it. The bacon fried rice was good, not great but good. The star of my meal was the Curious George Coffee, that was delicious, I had them put extra syrup in it. The drink made my visit worth it but I do not have this on my agenda to visit again the next time I am in Michigan.

Clark B.

Yelp
Tried out Toast today. We'd been at their Birmingham location before but they were slammed and we didn't get in. Today wasn't much better but I appreciated that they had a waiting area outside (that really needed a wall or two as a wind break) and a Yelp-driven app to inform you of your place in line. We started out with a 20-30 minute estimate and 9th in line. It took a good bit longer than that but we were happy when we got out of the cold. The plus side of a long wait was we already knew what we wanted. I was going back in forth between a few options but settled on the bacon-fried rice. That was rice, bacon, avocado, pickled vegetables, a sunny side egg and spinach. My son had the Fat Elvis pancakes which were pancakes with peanut butter sauce, candied bacon, banana, and strawberries with a side of syrup. It usually comes with almonds, cashews, and granola (also with more nuts) but he doesn't like regular nuts so we skipped those items. The brunch came quickly despite the crowded restaurants. We scarfed it down equally quickly. My meal was not as good as I hoped. It's touted as their 'award-winning dish in the Toast specialties category. But it may have just been not the right choice for me. It definitely needed some more salt and could have used some other spices. His pancakes were delicious and I was surprised as he hoovered them up completely. He didn't like the hard candied bacon, but like the nuts, that's just a sensory thing he doesn't go for. It's Birmingham, so it's a bit overpriced, but oh well. We got the bill and I was surprised to see a service charge added. Maybe that's a B-ham thing. I appreciate paying waitstaff more, esp. in a time of COVID-19 but forewarning on the menu might have been nice. I tipped on top of that appropriately anyway. The waitstaff did a fine job and they always deserve a break! I'd give it a 3.5, rounds to 4. We'll try again another time and I'll go for one of the other options I was thinking about.

Lilly P.

Yelp
I decided to try toast when my brother and wife visited and it did not disappoint! Very fun atmosphere and the service was quick and efficient. The food was tasty and big portions. A great brunch spot in Birmingham!

Aditya I.

Yelp
Excellent ambiance in this cute place. Food was amazing. The service was great. Mimosas were kick ass. The French toast was different and had a nice pound cake base to it.

Dave W.

Yelp
World Class served right, ordered the Why So Blue? Pancakes and coffee, of which didn't need the accompanying maple syrup and came out just right!! Prompt and constant refills with the coffee as well! My waitress Jackee was nice and pleasant! We will be back... -- Dave

Danielle W.

Yelp
Never had a bad experience! The trashy hashy is my fav! I asked for drink recommendations and loved all of the suggestions.
