7/12/25 - I've been here few times now. I really love the aesthetic of this place. The entrance you go through the garden before entering the building. Every time I have been I am amazed at their Rosemary bush. There is some sitting right in front of the building and then some in the back that is shared with the place next door. They have nice drinks but can be a little bit more on the expensive side. I haven't really had any of their food but friends usually get their hot dogs or glizzy as they would say. I've only come at night to enjoy the bar scene. The additional back yard area with seating is pretty cool. They have shipping containers. The last time I went I got the Wanda vision for a drink and it was delicious. It was a nice floral tasting, which is my favorite. Like I said I really like the vibe here and love to come for some drinks and outdoor area.

Come here for happy hour or brunch! Perfect outdoor garden seating on a beautiful day. Creative cocktails and absolutely delish dishes (even on rainy days the chili or grits bowls are such a comfort). You truly cannot go wrong. Very nourishing and satisfying food. Friendly and attentive staff. Will continue to come back again and again!

Very cool eclectic vibe. Ginger beer needs to be sold in growlers or some sort of takeaway. It is very good. The mushroom gravy was delicious. I am picky about menus being explicit. I had avocado toast which was good but came with a bag of chips which is beneath the vibe. There was a parenthetical suggestion to add frittata (which says potato and egg to me) but didn't indicate the up charge. I think suggesting a side of tots (ore ida? Though well cooked super crunchy) or small servings of grits would have been nice. Portions are large. Friend had chili with pulled chicken which was great. Another had park place bowl... Crispy tots and mushroom gravy with other flavors... Very good. Next time I am going to try the sos. Server didn't offer or even make note of the specials which included dill pickle soup which we would have tried but missed the specials board. hope to try next time. We will go back for dinner drinks to catch the perro Blanco food next door. Service was fine but didn't sell the place. Reading the 1 star reviews, we were checked in, food came timely, they bussed our table. Just service didn't live up to the vibe.

Good food. Interesting location. We sat inside and we had a serious fly problem. It was a little warm but nothing too crazy

A Gem in Norfolk's Culinary Scene A vibrant atmosphere, inventive dishes, and a welcoming patio make Toast a standout destination in Norfolk. While minor inconsistencies leave room for improvement, the overall experience is a delicious and memorable one, earning it a solid four stars. Toast exudes a hip, welcoming vibe from the moment you walk in. The decor is a thoughtful blend of rustic charm and quirky details, with exposed brick, creative lighting, and an impressive outdoor patio that beckons on a pleasant evening. It’s the kind of place that feels equally suited for a casual brunch with friends or a more intimate dinner. The menu is where Toast truly shines, offering a creative take on Southern-inspired comfort food. The shrimp and grits are a must-try, boasting a rich and flavorful sauce with perfectly cooked shrimp. For those seeking something a bit different, the selection of unique toasts offers a variety of inventive flavor combinations that are both satisfying and photo-worthy. The cocktail program is equally impressive, with a list of well-crafted drinks that complement the food beautifully. Service is generally friendly and attentive, though during peak hours, the popularity of the patio can lead to a bit of a wait. While the quality of the food is consistently high, some minor inconsistencies in portion size and presentation have been noted on busier nights. Despite these small critiques, Toast remains a top-tier choice for dining in Norfolk. The combination of a fantastic atmosphere, a creative and well-executed menu, and reasonable prices make it a place worth visiting again and again. It’s a true gem that contributes significantly to the city's culinary landscape.

Always love paying this place a visit whenever I'm in town. The chicken chili bowl was great but my son's egg, cheese, and sausage sandwich was the star of the show. They need to bottle and sell the sauce that's on that thing, never had anything like it before. Yum! yum! yum!

I specifically spoke with staff about the three things that create a flawless experience. Food, service, and atmosphere. They nailed it. This chef here makes every item with love. The plating and display are phenomenal. The staff is pleasant, personable, and efficient. The food was so far above expectations I had to review. The drinks were once again on another level. Now let's get to atmosphere, it was quaint, small but welcoming, and just the right size to feel personable yet provide a booming experience. I will come here again when I am in Virginia. Kait, thanks!!!
