Charleston’s Latest Pizzeria Opens on Rutledge - Eater Carolinas

"Nimbo Pizza opened yesterday in the completely overhauled, 4,003-square-foot building at 161 Rutledge Ave., a short walk down Doughty Street from Chewning’s eight-year-old casual cafe and upstairs bar. The menu at Nimbo Pizza is space-themed with offerings like 'Cheesy Crater Fries,' 'Neptune’s Pizza,' the 'Rocketman Meatball Hoagie,' or the 'Battlestar Breadless Bowl.' Post and Courier writer Stephanie Barna stopped by the restaurant yesterday and declared the pies 'good' with a 'tender' crust. Nimbo Pizza is currently open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. with free delivery to the MUSC and express delivery to parts of the peninsula." - Erin Perkins

If you are a group of 2, 4, or 6, I highly recommend Toasted Crust's "Crust & Cork" pizza-making class where participants learn to make pizza from scratch. Chef Mike is an excellent and patient teacher (I accidentally put a hole in my first dough and he quickly got me another one). He gave clear instructions and is easy going. You get to pull the dough, dress the pizza, add wood to the fire, and cook and cut the pizza. Other staff members were friendly and made sure everyone in our party felt welcome. Overall, it's a great atmosphere and activity for a night out. As for the food, we had a good selection of meats, cheeses, and veggies, along with different sauces, for our pizzas. While Chef is directing the group, he makes sure all pizzas come out on time. The wood-fired pizza tasted fantastic! We also had a focaccia bread appetizer, served with sweet overnight tomatoes and fresh pesto that was killer. We didn't get the beignets, but saw several other tables ordered them and they looked great. Pizza-making class or not, this is a excellent spot for a fun night out. We went with my wife's parents and the other pair in our group was a mom and son. The class would also make for a fun date.

Nice and chill atmosphere. Sat at the bar and the bartender was very social and attentive beer never went dry. Ordered pepperoni pizza. Was really good and above average. Crust was ok but not a real yeasty rich flavor. Sauce, cheese and pepperoni were spot on. Really good check it out. I could make it a regular spot.

The crust is the best. As good or better than all the pizzas I’ve eaten in NYC. The Margarita pizza was delicious. Could use more oregano. The flavors explode in your mouth . Service and drinks were excellent. Friendly and a good pour of wine.

Stopped when I saw the oven., Wood fired! Got a Margherita since it's easy to see how well they prepare. They are legit. A minimal ingredient crust, a very good sign. The pizza was cooked just right, which is a thin almost but not quite crispy crust and 1 or 2 nearly burnt bubbles on the crust. The sauce was excellent. Am still savoring it!

Authentic brick oven pizza..by Andrea! Straight from Naples Italy..the pizza doesn’t get any better than this! We have been going there over the last several months that we have been visiting our son at CofC and before and have always had an amazing meal. We met Andrea this last visit. Wings are delicious too! Casual, fairly priced and good drinks! We have never needed a reservation. ☺️

We had the best time with Chef Michael creating our own pizzas! It’s the perfect experience for a date night, girls’ night, bachelorette party, you name it! He walks you through every step of the process, from making the dough to adding your favorite toppings and baking it in a wood-fired oven. Such a fun, hands-on experience and absolutely worth your time and money. Go support him, you’ll love it!

The food was good but the service was horrible. We went in and got sat quickly. They weren't super busy but finishing up the lunch rush. A hostess came by to check on us because we were sitting there so long with our menus. Our server finally came and we ordered a latte and a house coffee. Then ordered our food. He took 33 minutes to bring us our drinks, and never brought us water or anything. My coffee was cold and old. I flagged down the waiter and explained it was cold and he said it would take him 8 minutes to brew a new pot, that was "the last of the old pot". So what was he doing for 33 minutes? And was he not going to give me any refills? At that point I told him to take it back and take it off the bill. I didn't want it. The food was brought out by someone else. That person brought us silverware and hot sauce. Super friendly. Good food. When we tracked the waiter down and asked for the check, he brought it out with the coffee still charged. We had to flag him down again and ask to have it removed again. Really sad because the place was cute, had decent food, and most of the staff was awesome, but our waiter made us question our choice and we almost left before the food got to the table.

Yelp
Great location, right on King. Solid pizza. Reasonable price point. REALLY loved that San Marzano is mentioned specifically in the menu. Yum! We sat down at the bar for a quick drink and snack before the usual King Street Friday uptick. Server/bartender was friendly and attentive. Again, solid pizza. We keep our pizza choices simple, especially if "crust" is in the name. And yes, TC delivered a tasty, slightly charred, chewy, and crunchy crust. We look forward to our next TC run and pie.

Yelp
Very good wood fire oven pizza. We were exhausted and had it delivered 1 night. We'll worth it. Great crust, sauce and lots of toppings.
