They get a star for the new renovations and a star for friendly (ish) service.
The food was terrible. Basically Sammy's extended their hours and added a breakfast menu and rebranded. Smart. But the brunch food isn't as good as the classic lunch/dinner menu.
I had the pork belly hash, it was cold and the pork belly tasted like it had been doused with liquid smoke. The dish was greasy, and everything tasted the same. The side of rosemary toast (extra $1.50) was one piece of toasted, unbuttered bread. I was glad that I didn't detect the rosemary, which can be overwhelming. Butter should be served on the side, or the server should inquire if the guest would like butter. This meal was a 1 out of 5.
My companion had the bacon benedict, which was a great presentation. The asparagus spears topped the eggs and were drizzled with hollandaise. Had the spears been cut in half it would have been easier to navigate and eat without having to disassemble everything. The bacon was similar to the pb. too smoky. The hollandaise was excellent. This meal was a 3 out of 5.
We ordered an iced coffee, the server didn't mention that she was just going to pour hot coffee over ice...the coffee was poor quality, the ice was melted. It would be helpful to let the guest know that coffee could be iced, but they didn't have it already cold.
Our server was friendly and initially she was attentive. We had to ask for water refills and iced tea refills. She never checked on our satisfaction after delivering the food and every time she or another server walked by we felt like a nuisance, stopping them to ask for water, tea, ketchup, then Tabasco, more water, etc.
The new decor is fantastic and the furniture is comfortable and cozy.
I'm really sad that Snooze is gone so Toasted is the new breakfast place on the block. Also, because there was definitely enough breakfast business for two restaurants.
I suppose, with unlimited mimosa's brunch might be okay- but it's unlikely I'll be back, other than for a delicious, overpriced salad?
