Toast Gastrobrunch opens soon - Eater Vegas

"In a city brimming with breakfast and lunch concepts, Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza & Grill owner Sami Ladeki is banking his new concept will make Spring Valley feel like the weekend every day. Launched in Carlsbad, California, earlier this year, Toast Gastrobrunch is already hiring staff for a second location, taking roost on Flamingo Road. Expected to be open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sammy's executive corporate chef Alfred “Alfie” Szeprethy is a Gastrobrunch partner and will also oversee a menu featuring traditional classics and inventive new dishes including duck confit, or lobster and mashed avocado on toast, eggs in purgatory served in a sourdough bread bowl and Southern fried chicken pancakes. Specialty drinks include a lavender lemonade Mimosa, pisco sours, and blackberry, peach, or blood orange Bellinis. The Las Vegas restaurant will be designed with 'Instagrammable spots both in and outside the restaurant,' the company says. Back in San Diego, diners can stage photos with a full-size cow statue affectionately named Maizy." - Bradley Martin

Came to Toasted for breakfast after them claiming it's "the best breakfast spot"—unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. The food was just okay, nothing memorable, and the portions were surprisingly small for the price. We ordered two breakfast plates (no drinks or sides), and the bill came to nearly $90 with tip. At around $35 per breakfast plate, I expected a lot more in both quality and quantity. Not worth the price, and I won’t be coming back.

My husband and I stopped by Toasted for a late brunch. We arrived and stood by the podium with the "wait to be seated" sign by it. Nobody was at the podium so we waited a couple minutes for the host to arrive. A young gentleman greeted us and offered us a table or a booth, we chose a booth. Our server came by and greeted us and took our drink order. We both ordered the bottomless drip coffee and I asked for cream. The coffee was very good, we loved it. I do wish however that they would have flavored creamer available. The server came back and took our food order. I ordered the lobster benny, it came with truffle parmesan potato bites and a roasted tomato. My husband ordered the brisket hash and for an additional fee a side of sourdough bread. My lobster benny was decent but I don't think I'd order it again. There seemed to be an overwhelming lemon taste to the dish but an overall good flavor. The poached eggs were a bit too runny and slimy for my taste. The lobster was barely present in this dish, you could barely tell what was lobster or a diced tomato. I did not even tried the roasted tomato on the plate, as i am not a huge fan of tomatoes. I did however like the potato bites and I would order those again. My husband liked his brisket hash alot and says he would order it again. We both thought the prices were way too high for what you're getting in the dishes. My lobster benedict was about $15 more than the classic benedict they had on the menu and it definitely was not worth the $33 I was charged for it. We had a fiftcard from Christmas to use, otherwise I'm not sure if I would have even tried this place. Also the whole time we were trying to enjoy our food, there was an obnoxiously loud man with his children who kept screaming. The staff didn't even ask him to quiet down or anything. The customer service was mediocre, the server was.not as attentive as we like.

The food was tasty, we will be back! Alfred the Manager, provided with a great customer service. Thank you! We will recommend this location to our friends and family.

Google
This place was hands down GREAT!!! Alfred was amazing. The Breakfast Sammy, Stuffed French Toast, Grits and Shrimp and the small breaded potatoes… omg this place is so good and a birthday Sunday for the table… thank you for the great atmosphere and service.

This review is for the new Toasted restaurant that replaced Sammy's. I went and was not disappointed. Relaxing inside and outside seating. Their brunch menu has good variety. I especially enjoyed the Elvis French toast. I believe this will be the best brunch spot in all La Mesa. Definitely worth a try.

Tried this place for breakfast at 10:30am on a Friday. We were seated right away. Your entire party needs to be there to be seated. This place is located right next door to Banbu Sushi. Small parking lot right in front of the restaurant and more parking in the next lot over. Servers were very welcoming and friendly. The restaurant itself is pretty spacious, cute, and cozy. There is seating inside and near the open windows (kinda outdoor? Lol) Definitely recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area. Food review: Iced chai latte: (5/5) This was so tasty! It was creamy and had the perfect amount of spice. Wish there wasn't so much ice in it and so little drink. Lavender mimosa: (5/5) presentation so cute! It was refreshing and had amazing flavor. Could drink these all day. Peach Bellini: (4/5) Definitely on the sweeter side, but tasty! Plain Jane: (5/5) This is the perfect classic breakfast. It comes with toast, eggs, sausage, and side of fruit or potatoes. We got bacon on the side too, super delicious! Breakfast Sammy: (5/5) Good sized portion. This sandwich was so tasty! The bun was so soft. They are not stingy with the meat either. Sooo good. It would’ve probably tasted even better with an over easy egg! Smoked brisket melt: (5/5) wow. Wasn’t expecting this to be as tasty as it was. The sourdough bread was perfectly toasted and each bite was filled with lots of meat and cheese. Yes! Definitely would order again. Coffee cake pancakes: (5/5) This was the perfect sweet treat for sharing! These are unreal. The flavors mesh well together. This is a huge portion!

Okay, so our reservation was at 3 but we got here early and they was able to seat us 30mins early on to a great start. We had a few questions about the menu being that the waitress was new she had little or no answers, understandable. 2 of my friends didn’t like their meal so they sent it back and one of my friends order had a small error it was also sent back. I enjoyed my food really good no problem with it. Service was a bit slow and waitress was struggling a bit. My friend ask multiple times for ketchup and guacamole as well as syrup. Assuming her memory was great plus it’s a few of us no worries I asked as waiter that was walking by due to the fact my friend was not eating bc she was waiting for her condiments. I polite said excuse me sir… no reply then I tried to wave him down. He look straight at me did not acknowledge me and kept walking. Went to go help a table so I brushed it off but then he came back and as I try to ask for the condiments and said he couldn’t hear me rudely and our waitress came back Said he got it and Albert walked away rolling his eyes. So with that being said food in my opinion was great but service was not! And yes I posted this while I’m currently still dining

My wife and I decided on a whim to give Toasted a shot and see what it's all about. We rolled in about 30 mins before closing, around 230 on a Saturday. We were greeted by a young man who begrudgingly sat us. As he was seating us, he told us the kitchen was closing in about 25 minutes, "so have an idea of what you want." Super welcoming considering it was out first time there. Our server came over promptly, took our drink order. She mentioned the kitchen would be closing soon, but was cool about it. She brought our drinks promptly and took our order. She was very nice. We ordered spicy bloody Mary's. They were garnished pretty extravagantly which was cool, however, they were so strong, they were barely drinkable and we had to force ourselves to drink them chasing every drink with French fries and ketchup. Our food came out relatively quickly. We ordered a BLT and the brisket sandwich. They were both awful. We ate half of each and took the rest home. Our son tried what we brought home and did not like it at all. The decor and style was cool, the food and drinks were not good, it was kind of expensive. We thought about going back and trying something else but we'll pass and just go to the Broken Yolk.

Yelp
V was a great server...def will be back again...food and drinks were fantastic Prickly pearl was my favorite mimosas

Yelp
Vernae was the absolute best! Amazing service and super attentive. Would definitely recommend the burger and the short rib eggs Benedict!

Yelp
This is our first time eating here and Vernae was awesome! She was so welcoming and nice. She made our experience here a 5/5. :)

Yelp
Good food, amazing GM !! The owners should really do themselves a favor and let go of the Somalian looking lady with the beautiful long black hair, or RETRAIN HER! she has no customer service skills whatsoever ever and one bad egg can literally sink your ship. I will not be returning due to the terrible service and ugly looks we received from that specific server. Really wish I caught her name. I am also a manager of a restaurant and I was left feeling so awkward being helped by her. We had lipstick on our latte rim, dirty blue glassware for my Pellegrino. The GM made everything all better, he is a true GEM

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday after the brunch rush. My husband and I arrived to find no line. However, I waited at least five minutes before being attended to, and by that time, a line had formed behind me. The staff informed me of a 20-30 minute wait, which was reasonable considering their busy schedule. After waiting 20 minutes outside, I returned only to find the parties who had arrived after me had been seated. Following an additional five-minute wait, the waiter who had taken my info requested it again and informed me we were next in line, despite there being no line. He apologized, citing technical issues with their system. I ordered the Lobster Scramble, which came with Parmesan Truffle Potatoes. The scramble contained lobster chunks, which I appreciated, although I prefer my meals to be served warm rather than cold. The potatoes were exceptionally addictive, and I ultimately took them home. I also ordered a chai latte, which had the ideal level of sweetness for my taste. My husband ordered the Short Rib Benny; his only complaint was that the rosemary bread overpowered the flavor of the short rib. In addition, we shared the Stuffed French Toast, which was more of a dessert for us. The brioche held up remarkably well and was quite good on its own. Despite the delay between checking in at the hostess station and receiving our check, the employees were friendly and the food was good.

Yelp
Was hoping this could be our new little brunch spot but probably won't give it another shot if we're being honest. I'm a shrimp and grits connoisseur and the shrimp here was inedibly salty. Not to mention the ratio of skrimps to grits :( the pancakes, in our opinion, were nothing special. On the plus side the little potato balls they have are really yummy! It is super cute in here if you wanted to do a lil boozy brunch with your friends. The waits are kind of long and the service isn't the fastest though.

Yelp
My very first time trying any toast and it was amazing. The lobster toast had so many flavors going on I could not stop eating it. I've seen many toasts on many menus trying the smoked salmon and lobster opened a new window for me. Don't get me started on the breakfast quesadilla. This thing was fantastic and huge. The meat mixed with egg had so much flavor. I loved the way it came with pico and guacamole. It's big enough to share. Lastly the red velvet pancake was the perfect end to our meal. This whole meal was a treat. I enjoyed our service from the minute we got our drinks. The restraunt itself is beautiful so trendy the booths are nice and cozy with plenty of room. Can't wait to come back and try Sunday brunch with some girlfriends. Espresso martini's here we come.

Yelp
Been here and couple of times and had amazing food. their portions are big but the food is delish! We went here recently for our friends bday and Trinitu was our server, she was very sweet and on top of everything. we even were handed a gift card from someone who was there from corporate which was nice. the weather was perfect for the environment and openness of the restaurant.

Yelp
Toasted located in La Mesa in a shopping center but, hidden from street view. It is located across from Frazier Farms towards the back side of street view. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and parking can be challenging. Ambiance is nice with great customer service! We ordered: Short Rib Benny - AMAZING and a MUST ORDER! Elvis French Toast - I was not a fan of the combination of flavors. They offer a wide variety of dishes to choose from and we will definitely be back!

Yelp
Came here for brunch as it was recommended by a friend. The Saturday wait time was going to be an hour, so we sat the bar. Bar driver was great! I ordered the Eggs in Purgatory. This had a lot of flavor and a decent amount of spice! So if you like spicy, you will enjoy this dish. I also ordered the Prickly Pear mimosa and enjoyed it. I'd definitely come back and likely order the same things!

Yelp
I had a nice lunch at Toasted La Mesa with a few friends. When we arrived it took a while for a staff to come and greet us and seat us. There wasn't anyone else waiting to be sat. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very open. I ordered the BLT sandwich and shared the Balsamic Grilled Chicken salad. The sandwich was good. It was served on brioche bread. The salad had too much dressing which made it a bit soggy. Next time I'll try to chopped salad it looked very good. Our waiter Eric was pleasant. Service was a bit slow. I would try this place again.

Yelp
Overall Experience: Toasted delivers great flavors and well-executed dishes, making it a spot worth revisiting. Lobster Benedict: The lobster Benedict was flavorful and satisfying, but it could use a bit more lobster to truly shine. The dish had great potential, and the execution was solid overall. Parmesan Truffle Potatoes: A standout side! Even as someone who isn't a big fan of truffle, these were exceptionally well done--crispy, savory, and incredibly addictive. Prickly Pear Sour (Drink): The prickly pear sour was a delightful addition to the meal--light, refreshing, and balanced. Southern Fried Chicken Benny: My girlfriend ordered the southern fried chicken Benny, and I had a chance to try it. The spices on the chicken were fantastic, adding bold and unique flavors to an already comforting dish. Conclusion: Toasted continues to impress with creative, flavorful dishes and excellent drinks. While the lobster Benedict could use a touch more indulgence, the Parmesan truffle potatoes and fried chicken Benny more than make up for it. A great spot for brunch lovers!

Yelp
We went on a Saturday morning around 9 am & was seated right away! The service was amazing & I believe the owner served us because he was so nice and sweet. He went over the menu thoroughly and was very helpful. The brisket hash was sooo good and melt in my mouth. 10/10 would come back!! There's a parking lot right out front & it's in a nice and quiet area. Be sure to check out Frazier farms next door :)

Yelp
I really want to like this place...like really really. It has such a good layout, the menu is really cool, and the location is convenient to us. We've been 3 times now and I'm so sad to say we won't be going back unless something changes. I'm not sure if it's a short staffing issue making a problem worse, but the service has been...slow. And by slow I mean see the wait staff max three times in your meal slow. Greeting, order delivery, and check (after you chase them down). The food is pretty good for brunch fare, with the really breakfast-stuff topping the flavor list. Drinks are definitely in need of help. The only worse old fashioned I've ever had was at an airport bar in South Dakota where I KNEW I was making an egregious error trying a mixed drink. Sparkling wine was flat, and I had to physically get up and walk to the three staffers at the bar to refill my water. I hope they can fix some of these critical issues. This place has so much potential and I'd love to see it thrive.

Yelp
Great food and ambiance! Service needs improvement but I tho k this is customary these days with keeping staff. But if you have time and not in a rush? I'd recommend this brunch spot!

Yelp
This is def going to be one of my new fave breakfast/brunch place. Everything I ate was on point. I mean the mimosas prob played a factor too, but I meant before I got buzzed. Lol. Speaking of, I wasn't too fond of the prickly pear or lavender, so I gulped them and saved the creamsicle for last! Which was a good idea, cause that was my favorite. I didn't get to try the steak&eggs or french toast, but I was told the steak was good and had some flavor. The toast was kind of just regular bread with powered sugar on top, it didnt really have the soaked batter that it usually gets dipped in. The good ol bennys were traditional, definitely couldn't go wrong with that! Them hush puppy potato balls were the highlight of everything though! They were lightly crisp on the outside&soft on the inside. I just kept popping em in my mouth. Lol. Definitely eat em while they're fresh though. I would come back&try more items off the menu!

Yelp
Came here for Sunday brunch, was able To join wait list which was moving but ended up sitting at the bar. Really lovely inside, and the bartender/ server was super nice as well. Started with some bloody Mary's and those were excellent. Liked the grilled shrimp! Nice touch! Got a mimosa flight with my steak sandwhich- the flight was good- not to much sweetener / juice so didn't over power the drink; but the steak sandwhich was underwhelming. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't excited about it. Kinda a bummer! Really enjoyed their "breakfast potatoes"- little chunky balls of potato deliciousness! Recommend those! Over all, it was not a bad spot, but it didn't wow me. I'd go again and maybe try something more "brunchy"- they had some bennys that's sounded delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
The menu here always sounds amazing but the actual food is no better than at other places, and the prices are about twice as high. The one item that I will go back for are the truffle potato balls which are perfection. I have had a short rib hash, the lobster scramble/omelet? And coffee cake pancakes. Those were a bit dry and didn't come with butter or anything. They were ok. The other meals I had were so unmemorable I literally have no recollection of them. Every time I go it's because I remember the potatoes, but then after I regret paying so much for mediocre everything else. I'm curious if other locations are any better. The one time I did dine in with my parents they brought my dad a mug with lipstick on it and didn't notice. The service was pretty lacking so I did takeout after. I will say I remember the food being well packaged for takeout. Otherwise, underwhelming and expensive.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Service was AWFUL. Our waitress was kind, but could definitely benefit from additional training - same with the host. Everyone around us was joking about the poor service. We weren't even given menus - when the waitress finally addressed us and came to take our order I had to ask for them. All in all, this place would be quite amazing if they had better or more well trained staff.
google avatar

Breanna M.

Yelp
The vibe here is wonderful- clean & comfortable. Arrived at 10 and was sat quickly. Waiter was very nice but made a comment that was unfortunate. Once our meal was done he said "I'd ask if you want dessert but this was basically desert" referring to the French toast. Just make me feel like if I did want dessert it was be awkward. We didn't want any but still, didn't love that comment. People make mistakes and it's not that big of a deal. I also got a chai latte - a little sweet but a gummy treat! I'd be back for sure!
google avatar

Sabrina S.

Yelp
Loved the mimosa flight!! All the flavors were pretty good. I didn't find any of them too sweet but that might be a preference thing. The parmesan potatoes balls were tasty little morsels! I need more of these in my life. My friends hash was decent and the fried chicken sammie was good as well. I love shakshuka and the eggs in purgatory was a nice twist. Slight bit of spice and great flavor. I get my egg med done, not runny and a lot of the reviews said the bread was way too hard but it's a bread bowl so it was the right level of hard plus it soaks up all the shakshuka sauce. I really like this place and would like to go back to taste some more things. Service was decent, they were just busy. We Sat inside but they had an outdoor area as well. It seems sort of tucked away under the trolley. Anyway, cute place and good food.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Food was alright, the potatoes were the real stars here!! I got the veggie Benedict but I feel like the guac (menu says "avocado" but it's literally guacamole) they put on it overpowered everything. We got a mimosa flight but BEWARE!! It's basically a wine flight! No juice in those mimosas lol. (I'm not complaining bc I like them strong ). They messed up our order and immediately took ownership and told us we were getting 50% off on the spot. Great service. Food was okay but the service made it a great experience
google avatar

Candace C.

Yelp
Came for brunch on a Sunday around noon without a reservation and it was pretty busy. We waited 10 minutes and were seated promptly. Once we were seated our server was so efficient and our food came out quickly and was hot. The potato balls were the highlight. I got the green eggs no ham and it was a little oily but the fresh fruit and toast were appreciated. Food portions were large and pricing was typical for brunch. They had seating where they opened the sliding doors to outside so people could have their pets and a bar inside with booth and table seating inside too.
google avatar

Yelp
We sat at the bar and Vernae was the best! She was so friendly and had great recommendations. The beef short ribs Benny was delish as was the French toast and coffee cake pancakes

Yelp
Food was very good and was happy with the service. Cool atmosphere and will visit again

Yelp
Al and Vernae are absolutely amazing. They're such great people that understands how to treat their customers. Verne is so sweet and patient. Al is a great manger that has a strong team by his side.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my birthday with my mom and will definitely be coming back! Our server was Kaylah and she was so sweet and patient with us. We had a situation to deal with so my mom had to leave for a bit and I was eating alone for a while. She gave me my space and was concerned if I was okay since I was eating alone on my birthday (which I totally was since the situation happens every so often that I'm quite used to it). When my mom had arrived to eat we were absolutely not rushed and was surprised with a free birthday sundae! (Which was way more than enough for the 2 of us since it was originally supposed to be a party of 3) So happy with how my experience turned out especially on my birthday! Can't wait to come back Food: *Eggs in purgatory was spicy (which was my fault for not looking at the menu closely) but still very delicious! *Elvis french toast had the best notes of banana in it (mom's order) *French omelette with cheese inside was super flavorful (meant for my brother but he couldn't make it so we took it to-go) and the tater tots (not sure what to call them) were such a unique texture almost like a mini hashbrown bite! We couldn't stop eating them and talking about how cutely shaped they were *Portions were big enough for one person but if you're not too hungry, I suggest getting multiple orders and sharing with your friends to try out everything on their unique menu! Parking: Plenty of parking and plenty of seating indoor and outdoor!
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
Cute spot with friendly service. Their potatoes are to die for, very good! Be sure to get those. The shrimp and Grits were also delicious! When we asked for sausage instead of bacon we didn't realize we were going to get an entire sausage link which was very good! French toast and the Denver scramble was good as well. Dislikes: pancakes! They were dense , dry. They were not light and fluffy. The fried chicken was extremely salty. The mimosa flight wasn't good, tasted like extremely cheap champagne was used. Overall it was a good experience with some food options not very good. Would I come here again , yes I would.
google avatar

Chanel Y.

Yelp
The girlies and I came in for brunch, and we had a really nice time. Our server was incredibly attentive and gave great recommendations. My pancakes were pretty good, the crumble was more dusty than crumbly but that's okay, it had a good flavor. The parking situation is great. And it's a really great environment all together.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my dads birthday, had to update my review and bring it to a full 5 stars as our server, Alfred, was fantastic and super attentive. He made the entire dining celebration great. My dad got the eggs in purgatory and loved it! thought it was super unique and tasty. The food here is so good I keep bringing more people to try it!

Yelp
This was such a 360 from my last visit I'm a little baffled by it. We came here after pride and it was about a 30min wait. We got a booth and it was smooth sailing in the beginning with our food coming out in timely manners and it all tasted great. Really helped it was nice and quiet and we could easily chat amongst ourselves with no loud noise to deal with. Once it came to get our check our waiter had disappeared along with the rest of the waiters except one. The one left was running to all the tables servicing them but we were left with no check up or any updates. 40 minutes passed since we were done and we had asked 2 staff members, the hostess and the only waitress left, for the bill and were told they would get our waitress. nothing happened and we finally were able to get Alfreds attention who seemed to be a manager or higher up. he apologized profusely and comped our bill in half. while this was so generous of him it was just so strange that our waitress disappeared with no word, no update that someone was taking our table over, nothing at all. We were just glad to be able to leave as we had later plans we had to get to and be done with this whole ordeal.

Yelp
Had Alfred as our server and it had been a rough day before, but Alfred completely turned our day around! He was so fun, and so helpful, we had a great time! Will be back :)

Yelp
Honestly better than what I thought We went for a Saturday brunch We were a large group You can be on thw waitlist on Yelp before u come and when we arrived our table was ready. Many people were waiting in line Also it was full Very cute interior design with hanging flower pots Now we come to the food Majority of food was pretty good What we liked Side of crusted potato yummy Stuffed french toast yummy Veggie Hash yummy Did not like Cali benny too much watery and needs more flavor It was my son birthday so they got a large dessert ( good for sharing) glass with chocolate and ice cream yummy Parking there is a small lot can get full but usually we find a space Overall very nice place for brunch Great for a girl brunch for sure I will come back with my girlfriends next time Overall I liked

Yelp
Went to Toasted today for the first time and it was awesome. Our server was Alfred, he was phenomenal, solid dude, informative, and was the best start to our morning. We will definitely be back here, and we need to have Alfred as our server!

Yelp
DEEEEE-LICIOUS! Came for girls brunch and LOVED the short rib benny. The hashbrown balls are pretty epic too. The ambiance is cute indoor or outdoor with beautiful floral light fixtures. Service was a bit slow but I guess it was a Sunday. Price was high for what the food was $$ 1-5 based off trying the other girls food Avocado toast 2---the hard boiled eggs kinda made it a bust in my book Chiliquilies 3 ---but it's spicy Veggie hash4---quality ingredients would've loved a sauce Short rib benny 4-----maybe I'm biased but I love a good Benedict. Def not your average as seen in the picture. The bread is more of a toast but yum

Yelp
TOASTED La Mesa Tried a new Brunch spot today and it exceeded my expectations. First thing is I love that you can join the waitlist prior to arriving. When I got there the staff welcomed me and let me know once my party arrived our table should be ready. It was a nice atmosphere with a great playlist. I love that their menu is small (because too many options make it more difficult to narrow down a decision). Eric (was one of the managers who waited our table) was attentive and when we asked for items he provided them without hesitation. We came for the drinks but the FOOD...well read below... Now for the food...it's not too often where I can say that everything that came to the table was flavorful and so damn delicious. However, the food here was just that. I personally ordered the Wagyu Sliders and added the Parmesan truffle potato bites...because why not. The sliders were not over cooked the aioli was perfect and those potatoes...hot damn...bless the chef because they were perfectly cooked. We also order some French toast because we wanted some sweet with our savory, don't judge me...judge yo mama, lol. Let me tell you, those French toast were cooked to perfection, it had the right amount of crisp and sweetness...a little syrup went a long way. These things melted in my mouth. Other items pictured order by my girlfriends are the Denver-ish Scramble & Steak and Eggs. I didn't eat any but from what I gather both items were to their liking. Don't walk but RUN to TOASTED, we already plotted our next meals to try.

Yelp
Love the ambiance and aesthetic. Very cozy. Comfortable. The Hostess was very gracious. Food is tasty and presentation is pleasing to the eyes. They serve big portions so sharing is caring. Do check this restaurant out! I'm sure you'll love it like we did!

Yelp
My experience was probably a solid 3.75 so I'll round up to 4. 3 feels too harsh. Cute spot. Decor is adorable and trendy. Recently renovated and clean. Parking is TERRIBLE at this location so just be prepared to walk a bit from underground parking at the apartments / trolley station or further down in the strip mall. Parking in front is mostly 20min max, and non timed spaces are sparse and usually taken by people at the dentist and salon in the structure. Service was great for us. It was busy but not overly so, and our server was attentive and pleasant. What holds me back most is how EXPENSIVE this place is. It's breakfast, bro. My "lighter side" green eggs (legit, egg whites and green veggies) was $27!!!! Like... wuuuuuttt? The rest of the group liked their food, and admittedly mine was good and the portions were large. BUT $27 FOR EGG WHITES AND VEGGIES??? Other items ordered: -red eggs -chilaquiles -cinnamon walnut streusel pancakes -iced chai lattes -regular black coffee I ordered salmon toast to go for my man at home with the kids, and that was $20. He said the bread was awkwardly spongy. There was also no regular cream cheese available? Odd that you'd have jalapeño cream cheese but not plain. Idk man... the bill is steep. I can't even imagine the bill for people who drink alcohol here (which they're known for. Brunch mimosa flights and cocktails). We didn't drink but they looked yummy at the other tables. Maybe I'll be back? I probably won't go out of my way though.

Yelp
This is such a cute brunch spot with amazing options to pick one! We sat near the door where the server would bring out the dishes and every single dish looks so good! From the Benny, to the scramble dishes and even the pancakes. The potatoes are a must! I have to come back and try something else.

Yelp
Went here for brunch yesterday. Joined the waitlist on yelp so the wait wasn't bad. Our waitress was Rachel and she was a joy! She knew the menu, made suggestions, and just had a positive attitude that made our time enjoyable. The food was DELICIOUS! We all ordered something different and it was all great. I am definitely putting this place on my brunch rotation .

Yelp
To start off, I want to address their cleanliness. I was served a dirty glass of water. I found lipstick marks all over it. I was disgusted. It was so obvious so I was confused my server didn't see them. I'm genuinely grateful that the previous customer wore lipstick because if they didn't, I would've been drinking through a dirty glass!! Just thinking about it while writing this review is grossing me out. Starting off with this sour note ruined my appetite for the rest of the meal. Nonetheless, I will try to give my unbiased opinions on the food. Eggs in Purgatory (6/10): The filling and egg was yummy, but the bread was hard. I wish it had more sauce and crispier bread. The feta on the sides are a nice touch. Choco Chocolate Chip Cakes (9/10): My favorite out of the three dishes. It was just a simple chocolate chip infused pancake with a chocolate drizzle and powdered sugar. It would be impressive to mess this up. It was the right amount of sweetness. Cali Benny (7/10): I loved the pesto hollandaise sauce. The bread was a little stale. The egg was gooey and had a good texture. The potato balls on the side were not that crispy despite its appearance. It wasn't airy or light. I didn't mind it, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

Yelp
Finally, it is an excellent place for brunch in East County. Sammy's is now toasted, and it's a hit. Fiona and Mali were pleased with its lovely decor and outside seating. Upscale brunch items with great-looking bennies plus a ton of other options. I was craving pancakes and tried the chicken and cakes, plus I added a couple of over-easy eggs. This comes with Spicey syrup and we ordered traditional because why not? Fluffy goodness. I'll be back to try the sundae. OMG Shout out to Alyssa, who was very lovely and super attentive.

Yelp
Love this place! Somewhat of a hidden gem. Back by the trolley station. Great cocktails and breakfast/brunch. Very cute indoor and outdoor vibe and really great service.

Yelp
Truly excellent service in a comfortable atmosphere surrounded by flowers. Vast menu and not totally out-of-line wallet wise. But it ain't free. Quiet location.

Yelp
My husband and I wanted to give toasted another chance. We arrived right before noon on a sunday. I ordered the good Ol' benny with a coffee and my husband ordered a classic French omelet with orange juice. When we were sat at the booth, we noticed on the ledge there was a little bit of paper trash. When the waitress came by she did ask if my husband could get up so she could grab the trash but my husband preferred just to grab it for her. When my coffee arrived, I didn't notice there was no spoon to mix in my creamer. I waited for the waitress to come by but our food ended up arriving before I saw the waitress. I ended up just asking the server who brought the food to grab me a spoon. The good ol' benny was an okay dish. My only complaint is that the English muffin was so soggy. My husband was not happy about his classic French omelet at all. He said they shouldn't call it a classic French omelet if it not a classic French omelet. His omelet was far to browned on the bottom to be considered a French omelet as a classic French omelet is not supposed to be browned at all and it shouldn't have cheese in it. He was aware that toasted did add the boursen cheese to their French omelet, as it was listed that way on the menu. I noticed as dishes came and went around the room that this restaurant adds a roasted tomato to almost every single plate they serve here and almost every time I saw them being taken away still with the tomato on the plate. I found this extremely wasteful, I asked for them not to put the roasted tomato on my plate. After we received the check, I noticed that they charge $7.50 for a large cup of orange juice. I find this price outrageous. For the same price I could buy a huge gallon of orange juice at the store. I am not sure if we would come back to toasted again, it may just not be for us.

Yelp
I decided to try the La Mesa Toasted after not having the greatest experience at the Carlsbad location. First, I'll just say that I absolutely love that you can join the waitlist on Yelp as you head over to shorten the wait! By the time we arrived, we were promptly seated. They have a big patio area, outdoor/indoor style dining open walls but under the roof, which I really like with our warm San Diego weather! Our server was very kind and welcoming, she us recommendations and was super understanding when I ordered something I didn't like. I asked for a dirty chai latte but the chai was extremely sweet and artificial tasting. I rarely send things back but I really disliked this so I opted for a regular latte instead and thought that was much better! For brunch, I ordered the Cali Benny and was very pleased. I can be very indecisive and was debating over a few different items but I was happy. I loved that there was a TON of avocado on this and the pesto hollandaise was really good too! This was a very filling and delicious option, I'd highly recommend!

Yelp
"We can't remove the cheese from the Monte Cristo French toast, it takes away the integrity of the dish" First off, parking sucked at 11:00. We were sat in the main dining room that had no windows and the dance music made it feel like being in a club, not a "cozy brunch spot." I'm under the legal drinking age, but if I were hammered, I'm sure the food would have tasted a lot better. Despite the nice presentation of the food, it had cafeteria-like quality. Since I couldn't remove the cheese from the monte cristo French toast, I settled for the turkey wrap. It had an aftertaste that made it inedible. The chicken from the chicken benny was very salty. The stuffed French toast was the only decent food on our table. Waitress was absent at some needed moments but wasn't bad. The hammerhead was strong but good, and I enjoyed my cappuccino. The food ruined the experience and the ambience didn't help. Don't go, unless you just want to drink and not get an actually quality brunch. Ruined my morning. Lame

Yelp
This deserves a 5-star rating! I always look up and try something new, and I come across Toasted La Mesa. We went, come to find out, this used to be the Sammy's Wood fired Pizza. It's the same setup but different concept. They're showcasing Breakfast-Brunch. I did the waitlist on the way to the place. It was an easy check-in. I ordered their Smoked brisket hash, just right portion, not overwhelming, which i like! The beef was tender and the overeasy eggs were perfect! I paired it with the lavender mimosa, very smooth! Now, i got curious on the Coconut pistachio kanafee. Presentation was awesome, but it's too sweet for me. I could have skipped this. Don't get me wrong, i mean the cheese was quality but the syrup. Otherwise, overall experience, 5-star!!!

Yelp
Toasted is a cute brunch spot in La Mesa close to the Grossmont Center. The shopping center this restaurant is located in has ample parking. We came here for brunch around 2pm. Toasted serves brunch from 8am-4pm and dinner after. The place wasn't too busy at 2pm on this weekend. The interior of the restaurant felt kind of dark since they were mostly relying on natural light from the big windows in front. We got the Elvis French Toast and the Denverish Scramble. The food was good, but these dishes weren't spectacular to me. I really liked the Parmesan Truffle potatoes that came with the denverish scramble! The French toast was really rich with the peanut better, but the peanut butter was a bit overpowering and really sticking to the roof of my mouth. I'd like to come back and try more items off the menu!
