Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings

"Modeled off of “the classic American diner,” Toasty Badger is an all-day restaurant on South Congress with a ‘70s aesthetic. Expect to find classics like griddle cakes, monte cristos, and French- or American-style omelets, plus a small menu of cocktails that are especially suited to brunch.  " - nicolai mccrary

I highly enjoyed the old American charm and delicious food of Toasty Badger. Service was also delightful and personable. The tomato jam really shone in my biscuits and gravy, and the griddle cake of the month (peanut butter banana) was a treat! I would definitely return and highly recommend trying here if you haven’t yet!

Some of the best brunch I’ve had in Austin! I came by during a week they were offering 50% off for students and I was not disappointed. Our server was super kind and helpful, I never would’ve gotten their delicious seasonal pancakes if it weren’t for him! I wish I could remember his name :( ! Some of *the* best scrambled eggs I’ve had in Austin in a really long time and I had never seen a hash brown quite like theirs. Even my boyfriend returned later in the week without me!

Google
Food and service were great! The atmosphere is a modern take on a vintage diner. Cool and clean inside. We were greeted and sat promptly around 10am in the morning on a Wednesday. Our server was super sweet and friendly. The food was great! I ate the breakfast sandwich and my husband had the griddle cakes. Both were delicious but warning, the griddle cakes are huge! I also ordered a Bloody Mary, super amazing and spicy! Our bill was about $50 for two plates, a Bloody Mary, and a coffee. All in all, a great place to catch brunch!

Writing this mid-meal at the Toasty Badger for the first time. Best classic, diner-style food I’ve ever had. The pancakes are delicious and fluffy, eggs are perfectly scrambled & the hash brown is salty and crunchy. Not to mention, the cold brew has just the right amount of boldness. Atmosphere is cozy and gets a ton of natural daylight. Music is a vibe and service is great. Liz was the best! Will come here often!

Honestly this place did not live up to the hype, which just made it extra disappointing... Pancake (of the month): They're not bad pancakes. They're just not great. They don't stand out. Not even close to "the best". Great size though. Didn't come with any maple syrup or butter either. French omelet: I got this because I was intrigued by its uniqueness and while I can appreciate it, I wasn't personally too big of a fan. I understand French omelets are meant to be more plain but I wish there were more options besides cheese and mushrooms to add on. Maybe onions or other greens or something I don't know but this just tasted very plain. Maybe more seasoning and cheese. The texture was a nice change from the standard omelet. This was probably the best dish because it was cooked right and is unique. I do think it's a bit overpriced though for what it is. Ham 'n' Eggs: Mid. Lots of fat on the ham that I had to take off. Gravy was ok. This dish wasn't spectacular but it was edible. Eggs were good. Hash brown is presented in a unique uniform texture, but no difference taste-wise (compared to other hash browns). French Toast: Mid. Especially when compared to some other French toasts I've had in Austin. The taste just wasn't there for me but I think it might've been because there wasn't any berry compote. There was fruit on top (a lot of berries) but no actual compote. Then all of the crème anglaise was on the bottom (underneath the bread). So it ended up tasting pretty plain. No syrup or butter was given either. I also did ask for the fruit to be on the side but that was ignored. This was just overpriced french toast to me but I think it has potential. Maybe I was just unlucky. French toast stix:.... I think they have a great concept and this has great potential and has probably been done right before but for my order it was done horribly. This was extremely greasy. Like SOAKED. I tried to squeeze all of it out and after two ENTIRE paper towels there was still some leftover grease on a SINGLE piece. I understand deep frying will cause grease but there are steps to ensure this does not happen. It's supposed to be a little greasy, not SATURATED like this. I've attached a video of the grease oozing out in just ONE area of the stick. I noticed because it coated my entire mouth and felt like I was drinking grease and then I started examining and was horrified. This concept is great for homemade french toast sticks, but if it's not executed properly it's disgusting. The bacon it came with was also disappointing. Two small skinny pieces that were 75% fat, so barely edible. Maybe this place really likes fatty meat but most people I meet would rather not have the fatty pieces... The apple juice was extremely good though. My favorite thing I got!... I will note that I did order deliver and my driver did arrive late so I wasn't able to get it super fresh, but I'm not knocking this place down from the food not being hot (warm food doesn't bother me too much anyways). The packaging really needs to be upgraded or something because both of my plates that had eggs were soaking through the containers. Maybe double up or something. It would really help if they added a note option for deliveries too. I normally don't order from places that don't, but I saw this place hyped up on Instagram so I gave it a shot.

Stopped by for some breakfast while staying in Austin for vacation. Pancakes tasted amazing. Hash browns were cooked to perfection. Great service!

Went in for the first time for brunch this afternoon and had an amazing experience! The hostess was extremely friendly and accommodating when I asked for a specific table outside. Gina got to our table right away and didn’t mind when we took a second to order. My drip coffee was out almost instantly and the Monte Cristo was the perfect sweet and savory combo — I’ll definitely be back!

Google
So happy we found this place! We got lunch though the breakfast looked fantastic. Will be back for that. The Grain Bowl was outstanding. Very savory and filled with fresh veggies. The Chicken sandwich was delicious. Impeccable service- everyone was friendly, helpful and attentive. They have counter service in two areas, tables and a patio out- lots of options for seating.

Amy R.

Yelp
Food was great, the Smash burger is recommended. The onions were grilled crispy, just like my husband prefers. The staff was attentive without being overbearing. Loved the view of the Capital and there is outdoor seating.

Yelp
We were in a pinch and needed a quick breakfast option. I called in a takeout order and they were happy to help me. When I approached the restaurant, the host opened the door for me. Call me old fashioned but I don't remember the last time that was done for me -- esp by staff! Seeing how cute the spot is made me wish we were eating inside. Such a cute, retro diner vibe and I certainly want to come back to dine there. The other staff that helped me with our order and pay were also so friendly and courteous. I walked out with a smile on my face with how customer-oriented everyone was. Then I got home and we all devoured our food. Biscuits and gravy, breakfast plate, and kids french toast sticks. Everything was delicious! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
I visited upon a friend's recommendation, and given that I trust his taste in food, I was hesitant to admit how disappointed I was. The diner vibe was charming but typically, diners come with extensive menus that offer an abundance of options. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. The menu felt quite limited, so I opted for the American Omelette. There's an upcharge for any toppings over three but none of the options felt particularly substantial. I went with green onions, gruyere, mushrooms, and spinach (which meant paying for two additional toppings), but even with all that, the omelet was bland. When you offer a build-your-own option, the least I'd expect is for the eggs to be properly seasoned, but they were lacking even basic salt. Ironically, it seemed like the kitchen had run out of salt for the omelet and then overcompensated with the sides. The Roasted Vegetables and French Fries that I ordered afterward were so heavily salted that it was a struggle to finish them. In a few weeks, I intend to try this restaurant group's new speakeasy. I certainly hope that they've done better over there than they have here.

Yelp
Finally checked out Toasty Badger for brunch with a group of 6! The space is pretty tight and cramped and warm, but the service was fantastic and so was everything we ordered. I had the biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. Loved the gravy and the texture of the biscuits. Bacon was perfectly crispy! My husband got the breakfast sandwich and loved it. He didn't even give me a bite! Someone else got the French toast and the French omelet - both of which were beautifully plated and I tried the French toast (it has a peach compote) and it was superb! Another friend ordered the French omelet and commented that it was so fluffy and soft just like she wanted it to be! The kiddos got French toast sticks that they devoured. Overall, I'd definitely go back. Make a reservation and be patient with the staff. They were all very kind and helpful!

Yelp
Another Austin diner checked off the list! And let me tell you, it's worth the trip. This place is definitely not big, especially if you only look at the inside (and the parking lot matches that sentiment), but they pack a punch. We came in for lunch in the middle of the week around 12 and were surprised to see the place relatively empty. It ended up getting a bit more crowded as we left, but clearly they cater to the morning breakfast/brunch crowd more. I was torn between the burger and the chicken sandwich, but I am so happy the waiter so the chicken was a can't miss item. The photo does not to do it justice. This chicken breast was huge. Easily cut in half and considered a full size meal. The house made slaw added a nice additional crunch to the already perfectly fried and spice chicken. I did wish the fries had a bit more seasoning, but hard to complain too much about french fries. I would come back, just for the chicken, but I still want to try the smash burger. Great lunch spot, just be prepared for the tiny parking lot.

Yelp
Nice place for brunch! The cocktails were tasty, bright and strong. We had the Portobello and chicken burgers, both very deep fried and served with fries/hash browns. We found the burger fillings to be too greasy. Our server was friendly, helpful and attentive. Indoor seating is quite limited so there can be a wait during peak weekend brunch hours but we found a spot easily around 1 PM.
google avatar

Na X.

Yelp
4 stars for the hash browns alone. It's a super retro and cute brunch spot with both indoor and outdoor seating. It def is able to accommodate a large group of people but that's like 1-2 tables only. The wait time is literally super long but that's normal for brunch spots. Definitely make a reservation for this place. My only issue is it seems like they don't have as many vegan veggie options for people who don't eat meat or eggs.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 The Toasty Badger is a peak Austin diner with options for everything you could ever want to brunch. The Smashburger was hands down one of the best burgers I've had in some time. Really took me by surprise because nobody is talking about it... yet! Such a great value for great food. Service: 5/5 The staff is so incredibly friendly from the moment you walk in the door. We did have to wait for a table but the bartender made sure we had plenty of water and coffee to hold us over! Environment: 4/5 Clean, cozy, and I love the handmade artwork on the walls! The only downside is how small the inside is which can make it feel cramped. Definitely plan on touching knees and elbows with people at your table.

Yelp
This place is so cute, delicious and has great service. It's a perfectly relaxed brunch spot on SoCo (use to be a Dairy Queen apparently) and they've done a great job with making it a cute diner style. They definitely have a long wait on the weekends so expect that! The breakfast sandwich was great. Their little potato cakes are perfectly crispy and delicious. Their French toast was different and a fun twist. Go here!

Yelp
A small diner off S Congress with limited parking spaces (carpool or ride share recommended). Menu is mostly breakfast oriented but there are salads, sandwiches and some dinner options. Pricing are reasonable and the staff is so nice and accommodating. They are kid friendly too. Wednesdays are family nights - they have games and kids can make pet rocks. Music was a throwback to 80s which was great. This one is a bit of a neighborhood gem. Handmade chocolate milks are an option for kids and the cocktails are nicely made. Chicken fried steak was great and served over mashed potatoes. Collard greens that came with it were salty vinegary goodness. Market salad was fresh - added chicken was good. The dressing was really nice and not overwhelming Classic two egg brekky - great bacon, good eggs. Those triangle bites of hash browns - so crisp on the outside and just warm potato goodness inside.

Yelp
Cute little 70s vibe spot for lunch! Parking: Small lot at the restaurant, but there is extra parking across the street or 1-2 streets over if needed I ordered the smoked salmon Benedict which was DELICIOUS! I've never had a salmon Benedict before but have had the tradition ham one and let me tell you it's so much better with salmon. The dish wasn't stingy on their hollandaise sauce, which I appreciated! To drink I had the wired woodpecker which tasted like an espresso martini.
google avatar

Sophia G.

Yelp
Love this place. I wanted a salmon Benedict and found out they sell them here. I kept changing my reservation and ended up calling in advance to explain the situation. They were so nice and accommodating about it. So when I finally did come in they had a table ready for me. It's such a cute little diner. Seats are very limited due to the size of it. And parking is even more limited. We ended up parking in the closest neighborhood which was just a short walk. The food looked amazing and tasted really good. I would definitely come back here for brunch again. It's an all around good time.

Yelp
If you're in the mood for a delightful breakfast or brunch, look no further than the charming and aptly named Toasty Badger. Nestled in a cozy corner of the city, this diner has quickly become a go-to spot for a hearty and delicious start to the day. From the moment you step inside, the warm and welcoming atmosphere envelops you. The decor is cute and quirky. But what truly sets Toasty Badger apart is its exceptional food, particularly the French toast and hash browns. The French toast here is nothing short of divine. Each slice of challah is perfectly cooked to a golden-brown, crispy on the outside and wonderfully soft on the inside. The flavor is a perfect balance of sweet and savory, with just the right amount of cinnamon and vanilla. Topped with fresh berries, pecans, a dollop of whipped cream, and a drizzle of maple syrup, it's a dish that will leave you craving more. Equally impressive are the hash browns, which are hands-down the best I've ever had. They're crispy and golden on the outside, yet tender and flavorful on the inside. Whether you pair them with eggs, bacon, or enjoy them on their own, they are a must-try and a true testament to the culinary skills of the diner. The staff at Toasty Badger are friendly and attentive, always ready with a smile and quick to make you feel at home. The service is prompt, and the portions are generous, ensuring you leave with both your heart and stomach full. Toasty Badger is a hidden gem that deserves all the praise it gets. If you're in search of the best French toast and hash browns ever, this is the place to be. It's a delightful dining experience that will keep you coming back for more.

Yelp
Service and food was great. Book a reservation in advance. Limited parking. Parking is a pain, with a small lot that fills up quickly, though there is street parking across the steeet. Without a reservation, we had to wait. Make your reservation bc you're more likely to get indoor seating with AC. Service was great - our server was attentive and friendly. The food was overall good. French Toast 5/5: The macerated fruit balanced the syrup's sweetness and was fairly light and refreshing. The Classic Griddles 4/5: They were enormous and fluffy but best shared due to their size and single texture. The Smoked Salmon Benedict 3/5: Bland and the salmon was sooo thin. Heavily needed salt, pepper, and tabasco to enjoy it. The accompanying salad was excellent, and I wished they offered a full-size version.

Yelp
We tried the Toasty Badger for the first time on a recent Sunday morning and had a great breakfast! We definitely went during peak time, as it was very crowded. The space is small, and the tables were arranged as best they could be, however we were so close to everyone around us and it was even hard for our server to come to our table and check in with us since it was so packed. We made a reservation on Open Table and were able to be seated right away, while others had quite a long wait (during peak time on a Sunday, so understandable). The menu was great with a lot of variety. They offer a good number of gluten free items, however the server wasn't the most knowledgeable and didn't offer to check with the chef about additional questions for dietary restrictions. i ordered a gluten free griddle cake (which was amazing!) as well as the breakfast sandwich made gluten free and then my boyfriend got the salmon benedict which he said was tasty. Overall a great breakfast spot and I will be returning!

Yelp
A new 70s themed diner on S Congress! I like how it's not in the heart of SoCo which makes parking so much easier. The space is small but I think they make great use of it, especially with the outdoor seating. We came on a Saturday around noon and got seated right away. I just love the aesthetic of the restaurant, it's very in theme, down to the sever uniforms. They had a special that day where we could get a free pancake and I thought that was a fun surprise. There's something for everyone on the menu and my friend and I shared the French toast and the fried chicken sandwich. Both were incredible! I did not expect to like the sandwich as much as I did and the French toast was huge and definitely enough for 2 people. I also thought the price point was reasonable and this is a good casual spot to grab brunch! I will be back for sure.

Yelp
Toasty Badger seamlessly blends classic diner vibes with sophisticated touches reminiscent of the 70s era. Despite visiting on a bustling Saturday morning, I was promptly seated at the bar. While the interior space isn't expansive, they maximize it well by offering additional seating on the patio. The menu primarily features classic brunch and lunch options, ranging from pancakes and French toast to fried chicken sandwiches and burgers. Opting for the burger, served alongside thick fries, proved to be a satisfying choice. I complemented my meal with a beer and indulged in an espresso martini for a caffeine boost. Despite the bustling atmosphere, the service remained attentive throughout my visit. I'm eager to return, especially after discussing with the manager the possibility of expanding their hours to offer dinner options.

Yelp
I've been waiting for a great/no frills brunch spot that just sticks to good service and good food. That is exactly what The Toasty Badger gives you. I went about 3 weeks after they opened and had such a wonderful experience we went again the next day. Just a casual and intimate cafe with great service. Food and drinks are stellar and cannot wait to return

Jessica M.

Yelp
Amazing food and tasty drinks. 10/10 would recommend the CFS. service was excellent. We were there after 3pm bc my son worked late that day, but the staff never made us feel rushed or unwanted. Very gracious and charming from service to management.
google avatar

Travis F.

Yelp
Small but mighty menu. The pancake was exceptionally flavorful and well browned, with crispy edges. Clearly they use plenty of grill butter, and they put melted butter and extra sugar, or something, in the batter because it was super flavorful. The wagyu burger was very tasty, made smash style with all the crispy nooks and crannies. Salmon Benedict was great, heavy on the tarragon in the sauce, but not overwhelmed and overall very pleasant. The hash browns were the only thing I don't recommend. Lovely crisp outsides, but insides completely lacking in texture and rather flavorless. And needed salt. Service is a bit slow and took a while to get drinks. Loved the look and feel of this classic diner. Prices aren't cheap but very fair for the quality of the product.
google avatar

Tessa G.

Yelp
Delicious food! Filling portions, adorable decor, very on theme. Classic old school dinner vibes with a touch of grandma's living room. Great service as well!
google avatar

Subha R.

Yelp
We loved toasty badger so much we came twice in one week. The food is excellent and vibes are super retro. If I had one flaw is that both times we visited the restaurant, there were several flies that wouldn't let us enjoy our food in peace lol! The service is good. We would recommend the griddle cakes, French toast and the omelette. The food is heavy, you'll definitely have leftovers and take them home. It's relatively affordable for entrees. We'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Very busy on a Sunday morning. We had the Classic 2 Egg Brekky with bacon, Fried Chicken Sandwich with a side of hash browns, and Gf Griddle Cakes (must get). Everything was delicious and hearty. I'd say the bacon and the sandwich were on the salty side. The menu choices are very limited, staying true to the vintage American diner theme, so don't expect cappuccinos or matcha lattes to be served here. :) Seats are comfortable. It's family friendly. So parents bring their little kids here.
google avatar

Jack G.

Yelp
Small diner with indoor and outdoor seating on soco with a bit of a hard parking situation, but the service and food are worth it. It is a classic American diner, and offers all day breakfast and is supposed to have a great smash burger (still have yet to try it).
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
So to piggyback on a previous review someone posted. I had the Monte Cristo. Hate to say but it was just a 3 bread ham sandwich with powdered sugar. No jam. A maple syrup and a good spreading that was somewhat sweet but not what makes a Monte Cristo. Wasn't even fried. If there was cheese I didn't notice it. The ham or turkey was so weak. Like a Monte Cristo has layers of meat. Please rename this to ham sandwich. The coffee was very weak. Wouldn't be surprised if it was decaf. The staff, 70's throwback decor, and eclectic dishes were great and save the review. My wife did like her Salmon Eggs Benedict. The English muffin was a bit burnt but she liked the rest. The orange juice was really good. Seemed fresh squeeze no pulp. It's a startup so they have a lot of kinks to work out for sure. Would like to see later hours since it's just 8am-3pm. Like a legit 24hr diner. Will come back and see what the regular breakfast items will be like.
google avatar

Alisa N.

Yelp
Service is excellent! This place is very small. Decor is awesome! If you'd like to go on a weekend, definitely make a reservation. They have a nice patio, but this heat? Eh. Food is great, and presentation is exceptional. I had the French omelet, and my bf had the French toast. We liked both. Definitely recommend you get the hash browns as a side. Wow!! We will be back.

Andy R.

Yelp
Looks like a quaint little place from the outside but when you walk in it's so tastefully decorated. The service is great and food was so fresh and delicious!

Paige T.

Yelp
This was my first stop to eat in Austin, and this place was perfect. I ordered a griddle cakes with a side of bacon and eggs on a Friday morning during ACL... so, pretty busy. The whole meal took maybe 20 minutes, and both my server and another server (maybe manager?) told me sorry and explained what was happening in the kitchen. He ended up comping my meal for the wait. I still tipped, because the food turned out amazing and the service was great. Definitely recommend!!! Such a cute spot
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Phenomenal smash burger that's reasonably priced. Cool interior vibe and awesome service. They recently expanded out of brunch/breakfast and it's a welcome addition to the South Congress corridor, that's noticeably missing any low key dinner spots that fall between fast food and fine dining. The only note of caution is their beer selection is pretty limited and pricey. We ordered a 12oz Twisted McCaunahaze and it was $12. We had originally ordered another IPA that they were sold out of, so we're hoping this is just a weird pricing glitch. Otherwise everything else is stellar.
google avatar

Tomas R.

Yelp
The biggest of hugs to The Toasty Badger because I am obsessed with this concept and their menu. Reservations aren't possible to make as this is more of a first come, first serve opportunity, but it's well worth the small wait. Situated on S. Congress a few minutes away from the bustle of everything, it's always nice to find a local business that has their own parking lot. Setup as a classic 70s diner you're rewinded back to a time that feels like pure nostalgia. With the rising prices of everything nowadays it was nice to see a menu where everything is reasonable and around $10-$14 a plate. Our table ordered a few different items to try including their avocado toast, monte cristo, their diner burger, salmon egg benedict, and their creme brulee. As a kid who grew up with Bennigans it was so neat to have a taste of a monte cristo without it being fried. The plate was super tasty and it didn't leave me feeling overstuffed. All of their juices are freshly pressed and they rine their own pickles! It's a neat little space and I will definitely be back. Brought back some great childhood memories with my grandparents and family tbh.

Yelp
amazing !!! servers are kind and attentive and thoughtful. super cute lil diner :3 french toast sticks: 9.5/10 | AMAZING. i could eat these every single day and not get tired of them. crispy exterior w the most amazing soft and fluffy interior. if you get one thing, GET THIS pot roast: 7.0/10 | a lil pricey but the meat has been cooked down to be super soft monte cristo: 5.2/10 | not my style of sandwich but it's pretty good w the maple syrup

Yelp
I sat at the counter and enjoyed the hustle of the place. It's a busy spot. The food is really good. So it's expected to be busy. It's like stepping into an 70s diner but nicer food and service. They did such a good job of getting the feeling right. Everybody always checks on you to make sure everything is great. Decent amount of seating. Patio, counter service, booths. Parking is a pain, but it's south Congress so what do you expect?
google avatar

Bo B.

Yelp
Solid food. I came for brunch and the French toast was flavorful and delicious - super soft. The only issue I had was that it was kind of hot inside. I wish there was colder AC inside during the day.
google avatar

Katelin K.

Yelp
This was my last meal in Austin. We came to this cute diner and were pleasantly surprised. First, I thought it was really cool that this entire diner was run impeccably by everyone who was 20 something. All these young adults, kicking ass! Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. We were greeted when we walked in and out. Our meal was delicious and I loved the vibe of this retro diner. Great meal, great ambiance, great service!
google avatar

Tope E.

Yelp
Stopped in for a team lunch and this place was super cute with the kids' drawings all around the wall. Begs the question whether kids know what a badger is haha. Regardless, this place was giving 70s decor. It was giving weekend at grandma's. The food was good and seems like a good neighborhood place to stop by for breakfast or brunch. I know it's a tough economy but I got to question why avocado toast is almost $13, but that's just me. You get your money's worth with the pancake and burger though. Service was impeccable, I have zero complaints. Will probably be returning there again.
google avatar

Allie R.

Yelp
I loved this place!! It is decorated so cute giving it the authentic diner vibe. The servers were kind and helpful and everything came out fast. The food herself was so good and the portions were fair for the price. They offer both indoor and patio seating. I can't wait to come back again soon!
google avatar

Brian O.

Yelp
It was absolutely wonderful. The bright and shiny server (Aaron) was great. The ham and eggs were perfect. Tom Petty was playing. I will be back for sure. It's clean!

Yelp
Walking into Toasty Badger felt like stepping back in time to a classic diner. I went for the smoked salmon Benedict and it was amazing! The eggs were perfectly poached, and the smoked salmon was delicious. The green salad was fresh and tasty with arugula and radish. The pancakes were fluffy with a nice crispy edge. Plus, the service was excellent - we were never left without attention, and the staff was super nice. Overall, it was a great spot for a chill breakfast.
google avatar

Neeharika P.

Yelp
Too crowded and cramped! There were about 50 people squeezed into a tiny porch, so close to one another that it was a hassle to pull out chairs or walk to your table. Definitely becomes worse if you have children who need a high chair so don't bring your kids. Food wise, it was alright, nothing to write home about. Coffee was great.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Neat little diner on SoCo, with a retro vibe from the decor to the plates and brown coffee cups. Fairly simple menu. Had the French toast and HIGHLY recommend! I just wish there would've been a second piece of toast, the price is just for one - albeit very tasty.
google avatar

Cayla G.

Yelp
The food and service were amazing! For a diner joint, The Toasty Badger has a good mix of greasy spoon options and healthy foods. The pancakes were unique and had me wanting to lick the plate. The only con was that the outdoor patio is swarming with bees. Like, swarming!
google avatar

Brandy C.

Yelp
Love love love the decor/ uniform. I'd say it "brought me back", but I wasn't alive back when their decor was popular- unless it was in the very early 90's and I don't remember. Anyway, they definitely used up all of their real estate so, don't be surprised if you're sitting pretty close to nearby tables. Their menu options are great and I loved the Monte Cristo. It's topped with powdered sugar, so you get a little sweet and savory. They're cooking up some yummy stuff over there!

Yelp
I honestly love diner food, and the Toasty Badger is extremely reminiscent of an old diner but with much better food and higher quality ingredients. They make really good use of the space, and I love the interior. I came on a pretty busy Saturday morning but was able to get seated within 30 minutes. They do not take reservations, so it's walk-in only. My friend and I both ordered black coffee with some cream. He had the 2 eggs brekkie, which he really enjoyed. The eggs came out perfectly cooked. I ordered the French omelet, and it was my first time trying it! Wow. The eggs were SO fluffy and well cooked. I would've eaten everything had I not already had a lighter breakfast earlier, but I would come back solely for the French omelet. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the co-owners, and he said that they have a special egg guy in house who really knows his eggs. I'd say that's fairly important for a diner! They're planning to open during dinner hours and have a dinner menu as well, so I'll definitely be coming back to try that out. I heard their French toast is also amazing, so I'll order that next time. I highly recommend, and it's such a bright space to have a great breakfast in. Prices are fairly reasonable as well.

Yelp
The food, service, and ambiance here was amazing! I've been here a few times, but will say I LOVE the monte cristo (and it's very filling!) I do wish it was served with syrup instead of the jam however. Our servers are always great, and we make sure to go at non peak hours so it isn't too crowded!

Yelp
Man, what a disappointment :/ My sincere hope was that this wasn't one of the ever-popular kitschy restaurants. While the decor was definitely funky and a throw back, I'm not so sure after our visit. Their rendition of the Monte Cristo (first time I've seen the bread neither egg or batter-dipped nor pan or deep fried) is just laughably & unforgivably bad. The $15 price tag, which is accompanied by no sides, only serves to add insult to injury. The lifeless bread was just that, bread. All that seemed to have been "done" to it was some powdered sugar sprinkled over it. Add one razor thin slice of ham & turkey each, melt a single slice of cheese and viola! You have a "Monte Cristo" that will make you wish so bad you had just gone to Denny's, spent a third of the $$$ & likely had a largely more edible version. Two stars because the breakfast sandwich, although tiny and unconscionably priced at $9 for the size, was pretty decent. And service was attentive and friendly. That said, they could use some work in the kitchen and their pricing model. Would definitely not be back until they work all the kinks out. Until then, will be dreaming that Bennigan's somehow reappears on Barton Springs so I can forever forget what was likely the worst Monte Cristo I've ever had.....

Yelp
Went to Toasty Badger for lunch. Ordered the Honey'd Fox, it was a very good cocktail. My family also notes the drinks and service were great. French Toast sticks were okay. I had high hopes for the Monte cristo but it was lacking in depth of flavor. If taking recommendations, I think Tasty Badger could use a brioche instead of three slices of toast, and make a different flavor homemade jam. I assume it was grape jam? Anyway, maybe a raspberry compote or something would give more depth. Fries were crisp but also not memorable in terms of taste. Food was sadly 3/5 stars. Pros: Great service Cocktails Cons: Food

Yelp
Interesting establishment that is a throwback diner. Really liked the pancakes that were big and fluffy and great to share. I also enjoyed my chicken sandwich although not the fries, too thick. Seemed like my table enjoyed it as well.

Yelp
If you've been a loyal 2LILPIGGIES follower, you already know how much we love Toasty Badger. But this time, the review is a little different, as only 1 lil piggie went on this excursion with a few friends. I ordered a breakfast sandwich which came with homemade hash browns, while at the table, we also had the fried chicken sando and French toast. First off, I have to mention that the plates our meals were served on were beautiful and perfectly captured the 70s vibe the diner is aiming for. The fried chicken sando was gigantic and absolutely devoured in no time. The French toast came topped with macerated peaches and spiced pecans--just the perfect touch as we soak up the last few days of summer. As for my breakfast sandwich, it was served on a perfectly toasted English muffin, with mayo and fresh chives. Interestingly, the sandwich had pork sausage links instead of a patty, something I've never seen before in a breakfast sandwich. The sunny-side-up egg was cooked perfectly, and the cheese was melted to just the right level of gooeyness. The side of homemade hash browns was amazing--crispy, seasoned, and served in neat triangles. Breakfast Sandwich: .5 / 5 stars During the meal, I spotted the homemade jam at another table and, admittedly, got a little jealous. So I asked our waitress for a bit to take home with me. It was a delightful blend of blackberry, blueberry, and strawberry, and it became the perfect sweet treat on toast and bagels throughout the week. Overall vibe: / 5 stars, as always!

Yelp
the food could definitely be improved, it wasn't great and it also wasn't bad 3/5. The service was great 10/10. I think the reason a lot of people visit or are drawn to visit is because of the aesthetic which is spot on it is literally a retro diner feel in there. Side note the dessert section of the menu is misspelled.
