Shelby Park favorite with a laid-back vibe and dialed-in burgers, from straightforward smash patties to fun specials. Voted Best Burger by LEO Weekly readers and loved for generous portions, crisp fries, and fair prices.

Best Burgers in Louisville (2025)
Toasty's Tavern

Ashley C.

Google
Delicious smash burger & fries. I prefer a thinner patty, like the smash burgers at Toastys, so it’s a 10/10 from me. Easily the best burger in Lou in my opinion. Small space, more bar height seating than standard table seating but they turn the tables fairly quickly so the wait isn’t too bad. They also had an outdoor picnic table area where they were seating people as well. Nice staff & a ton of Toasty merch if you’re interested

Today was a rough day at Toasty's. We arrived about 5pm excited to try one of the best burgers in KY! Toasty's was slammed. We sat on the outdoor area in a tent. We ordered the dill pickle dip, a double toasty burger, fried chicken sandwich and fries. Our appetizer came quick but the rest of our food took nearly 30 mins. Several tables around us who got there later than we did got their food before us. When our food arrived, the burger was very good but the chicken was torched. Check the pics. We asked for it to be remade and the 2nd sandwich was worse than first. We ate the burger fried which were very good. Disappointed that the experience didn't live up to the hype we have seen online. The manager did give us a gift certificate to come back. We will give them another shot maybe when it's not so chaotic

Google
One of the best smash burgers in the world. Great season fries that come with it. You can’t visit Louisville or even live here and not have one. Very friendly staff and the place of itself is out of this world. It became my favourite smash burger in the US, the picture doesn’t give it justice but trust me, try it and be the judge of it yourself.

Google
Great food. The Burgers are awesome. The fries are crispy and flavorful. The Margaritas were spot on. Saw a review on this one of a kind restaurants in Louisville. They rated their burgers 9.5 out of 10. The only negative is there isn't much parking but it's worth the effort to get in.

Google
The food was absolutely AMAZING. 10/10. If you like pickles the pickle dip was Grade A top notch. The burger is a "smash" style burger with great flavor...If you like a thicker burger, I recommend the double for sure. The coating on the fries is AMAZING. I'd for sure buy it by the case. The service was, unfortunately, awful....We never got a refill on any of our drinks and we asked for boxes for our leftovers and our waitress just ghosted and never came back..After waiting 10 minutes we had to just leave our food because we had somewhere we needed to be. I don't know if there were some other circumstances that caused her inattentiveness but I've worked in a restaurant and I would have never allowed my table to sit that long without any interaction. I would definitely go back and get my food to go. It's a little pricey. For a family of 4, no alcohol and an undeserved 18% tip, we spent a little over $100.

Google
After raving reviews we decided to try it out. I cannot eat red meat, so I ordered a fried chicken sandwich. I know it’s known for their hotdogs and smash burgers, but I thought surely the chicken sandwich would be a close competitor. Wrong. Overcooked, burnt and bland. They brought me a second one after I sent the first one back and it was the same thing. Oil looks very old, chicken was grey. Our waitress was apologetic. She was great and took care of us for the inconvenience. I was very disappointed. I wanted to love this and bring out of town visitors to try but we won’t be back. Additionally, the fries are mid, wedge salad was ok bar drinks are great. If you go on a cold day, and sit by the door be prepared for constant cold air ambushing you as the door is constantly opening and closing. If you’re on the patio in the outdoor tent, they have to bring your food through the restaurant, outside in the cold and to the patio so it may not be hot when you get it.

Google
This smash burger is best described as a large White Castle burger. Except for added flare the bun was served soggy and not toasty as the name of the restaurant would imply. This is by far the best burger in Louisville - that is if you can only compare it to Wendy’s and DizzyWhizz. Maybe the drinks are good, but when you have a small menu you should ensure that the food quality is top notch. Unfortunately this burger just hit below the belt and left me disappointed.

Google
This is a great little burger spot! We went for a Yelp event but got to experience lots of drinks and food. The sliders are tasty, maybe too much bread to meat ratio but still tasty. The fries were excellent. The drinks are different and you’ll probably love them or hate them. The pinapple orange juice drink I got was very good. The spicy watermelon one we got the event was ok, but I don’t like spicy drinks so that’s not an issue with the drink. The inside is small but has lots of bar seating and a handfull of tables. Super crowded which is fun!

Yelp
Wow!! I was pleasantly impressed with this place in Louisville! Very simple menu but the burgers and fries were absolutely incredible. The burgers reminded me of in and out in the best way possible. Great flavor. Amazing taste. Perfect burger consistency. But the real star of the show were the French fries! YOU MUST TRY the French fries. They were so good we got a second batch and are even thinking of going back today before we leave! Service was top notch too with multiple servers checking in on us. Ambience was matching of a cool burger bar! I will be back for sure!

Yelp
Toasty's feels like such a Louisville Institution™. We were going to see a show with some friends and were trying to decide where to eat beforehand. As soon as someone mentioned Toasty's everyone jumped up and agreed. We started with the pickle dip that everyone loved. For my entree, I just knew this was a place where you couldn't go wrong with a burger and fries, and I was correct in my assumption. The burger is a beautifully simple crispy edged smash burger, and the fries are, as advertised, among the best in town. The atmosphere is super welcoming and homey. They were a little understaffed the day we went but it was no problem, we still got taken care of amazingly. Definitely come by here if you haven't already!

Yelp
About never got seated, then had to clean the table. Worst though never got service. Can't rate the food because we never got ro place an order at all. One server that I think was more interested in getting high than actually doing a job. Small location.

Yelp
First visit. Believe the hype. Sat at the bar on a Thursday evening with a friend. Service was stellar. Double smash was fantastic and fries were on point, as well. Burger was very heavy/greasy so be prepared. Great vibe. Only suggestion is they add a couple of TVs behind the bar, which would make it a good spot to catch a game. Looking forward to another visit.

Yelp
This is a cool little spot. If you are a fan of crispy fries you will be happy. The cheese sauce we got on the side was very good, not just some cheese sauce out of a can. It had some flavor. I got the McToasty and added the burger patty. It was very tasty. Staff were all cool and attentive.
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
Great authentic smash burgers, with neighborhood hipster vibes. After buying Toasty's magic dust seasoning I decided I needed to visit. It's a great spot nestled near Shelby park. I walked right in and found a seat. I ordered a double with cheese and a basket of the seasoned fries. The burger a very traditional smash burger plenty of cooked onions and cheese. A tasty sauce and soft bun. Cooked perfectly with a tapered crispy edge. The fries delicious seasoned with the patented magic dust. Not spicy just bold flavor. The price is pretty standard these days after tip pretty much twenty bucks. It's worth a visit lots of vibes it's a smash burger lovers dream.

Brandon Y.

Yelp
Honestly one of the best burgers I had all year! Simple, tasty and just unreal. A smashburger without all the fluff. And those fries - well seasoned and crispy. I ordered the shut the f*** up Amber cocktail with bourbon and passion fruit puree. Well balanced and a treat. John the server was super chill. Edgy tavern vibes with killer burgers and drinks. A god tier Louisville destination

Yelp
This is a hidden spot ~ was able to try the Hamburger very good charred loved the pickles I did not try the vegan hamburger. Their fries are good regular but the best for me are their mushrooms ~ they were deep fried and large almost resembled ribs lol ~ they came with these two sauces which were fantastic. I was a little taken aback at the bartender they were out of the advertised Wednesday specialty drinks which were Watermelon did get to sample one which is why I wanted one but they were out when asked about the price of the two drinks was told the price and ordered the small but charged a different price and the drink was full of juice no liquor not likely to order again Ambiance was outside a little small but fitting for summer. Best thing about this place is the Mushrooms! Delicious

Jon Y.

Yelp
Probably the best burger I've ever had in my entire life. I mean, what else is there to say? 10/10, no notes.

Yelp
Had another pleasant evening at Toasty's. No frills and mix of families, hipsters, young, and old. The patio is pleasant and very informal with picnic tables and space to spread out. There are plenty of servers roaming, so you're unlikely to wait long. They churn out yummy smash burgers with a signature sauce that is something like a light pickly relish and mayo. It's pretty tasty. Quality meal that's great for the family.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Poppin shop with great cocktails and stellar smashies. Busy and a but of a long wait but totally worth it.

Monica W.

Yelp
Great Reuben hot dog, cheeseburger, fries and happy hour $1.50 draft Miller Lite. Busy, but service was in point with ordered, refills and check ins. Small diner/bar feel with friendly staff and small but diverse menu. Will definitely be back by!
google avatar

Keli T.

Yelp
This spot is know for its burgers and it didn't miss. The service was pretty good. Cleanliness is what's to be expected for a dive. I'd come back for the food as the burger was flavorful. The air wasn't working too well which is why I took off a star. I couldn't quite get comfortable
google avatar

Beccy K.

Yelp
I highly recommend trying this local spot! They have a full menu with both beer and cocktails. The smash burgers and seasoned fries were fabulous, especially with their personal Toasty sauce! There is a vegetarian smash burger option as well which is also delicious. Parking is available on the street. A back patio is perfect for fair weather gatherings. I tried their Watermelon Marg which was delicious with a pop of jalapeño pepper in it! The Gold Rush was also tasty with bourbon, honey, and lemonade. Our service was attentive and eager to please. I'll definitely be back and bring others :)

Yelp
TikTok did not steer me wrong! Hands down top 3 burgers I've ever had!! The entire thing was perfectly designed and every part worked well with the other.
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
I went here ages ago, dahling, when I first moved to Possibility City. I was busy acclimating so I couldn't sit and stay, but I picked up a veggie burger, to the disapproving bartender's chagrin. As I checked out, he recommended the specialty of their house- the cheeseburger- "We make a really great one," he added. Sadly I have never tried it. But the veggie burger was great and the place sure seemed cute from my quick impression. They also list all kinds of neat movie-related events on their site- I always wanna go but either don't have time or someone to go with :(
google avatar

Yelp
A Shelby Street Staple and with a unique twang on their fries and a nice sloppy burger. Yum yum time. It's also super cool and hip
google avatar

Erica O.

Yelp
This place hits the spot with delicious food and drinks! The burgers are thin and crispy which are extra flavorful and the fires have a special seasoning that is so good! The service is so friendly and quick! They do have a patio for outdoor options.
google avatar

Jim G.

Yelp
Cheeseburger and fries with an orange cream soda on the side deck on a mild September afternoon. Strong.

Yelp
While visiting Louisville for a music festival, I was determined to find a hidden gem and locals spot that was away from the touristy areas, that offered authentic, delicious food with amazing flavor. Toasty's Tavern was Just what I was looking for! Easily one of the best smash burgers I've ever had, hands down!! The atmosphere here was super inviting and they had a wonderful outdoor patio with lots of seating, as well as an indoor section with a long bar. This was a total neighborhood spot where you can tell locals hang out to grab a burger, beer and hang out. The service was also top notch; even for being extremely busy at the time we visited, our server was super attentive and friendly! I would highly suggest Toasty's Tavern as a must-visit spot if you're looking for a delicious smash burger with a laid back, authentic Louisville vibe!

David B.

Yelp
Nice place with a funky local vibe. Friendly staff got us going on the menu. Burgers seem to be king and that's not a lie. Nice burger prepared perfectly. Also grabbed a cup of chili which was very good. Cool place - cool vibe.
google avatar

Cher N.

Yelp
Tried Toasty's for the first time and loved it. The inside isn't super large but there is an outdoor area with a deck. We were seated pretty quickly since we were able to pick the table where we wanted to sit. The menu is pretty simple which makes it easy to choose. My son and I shared a large basket of seasoned fries and both ordered sandwiches which were amazing. So good. My other son ordered the cheeseburger which he really liked. My son liked the chicken sandwich so much that he ordered another one. We will def be going back.
google avatar

Erika B.

Yelp
Heard this was the best cheeseburger in Louisville and now can confirm. Classic smash burger style with the best kind of fries. Portions were healthy, ingredients tasted fresh, facility was clean. You'll likely have a wait if going during peak hours.
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
We stopped in here for a Tuesday evening dinner and found a parking spot right out front. Large outdoor patio area, but we decided to go inside since it had just rained. Inside was fairly busy with an eclectic crowd of patrons who appeared to be neighbors within walking distance and also those of us who made this a destination spot. Waitstaff were all so very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. We felt like we were regulars and immediately very comfortable. I started with a Shannon and the Dude Hazelnut Brown beer (YUM!) and my kid (almost 30, so not really a kid!) had an old fashioned cocktail. My beer was fabulous and the beer list is great. My son told me his cocktail was one of the better ones he has had, not sickly sweet. He asked our waitress to pass the compliment on to the bartender, who visited our table and said "thanks!" They apparently make their own syrups and mixers from scratch -- no premade bottled stuff. We ordered the mushroom (portabella) plank appetizer and then smashed burgers and a shared sizeable basket of fries with Magic Dust. The Magic Dust was SO good that we bought a container to take home to put on potatoes, popcorn, and the glass rims for our Bloody Mary cocktails -- WOW!!! We both commented that the burgers were reminiscent of a classic diner burger with the lacy crispy edges. The fries were addictive. Putting this place on my shortlist for a re-visit.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Love Toasty's. The burger and fries always hit the spot. Service has always been great (there when you need it but not overkill). It's just a good place to get a good meal!
google avatar

L S.

Yelp
Trust the server, but expect them to be honest if something is spicy or not when asked. HOMERUN for the burger and absolutely add the coated fries. Appetizer of pimento cheese was worse than horrible and covered in spicy pepper sauce and unlike any pimento cheese that we ever tasted. Unlike other places, if they tell you it is not spicy (which can be very personally interpretive) and is then offer to remove this abysmal 12$ Appetizer with saltine crackers...... no offer. Ranch dressing was delicious on a side salad. Nice bar, cool bar with outside dining.
google avatar

Yelp
Toasty's! Such a Louisville favorite! And now I understand why. I got lunch here with a friend earlier this month. We got a table outside on their shaded patio, and our servers were friendly and helpful. And I got the dish I hear about most for Toasty's: the cheeseburger. This is made with a smashed patty, griddled onions, iceberg lettuce, American cheese, Pop's Pickles and Toasty's Sauce. Everything on this burger worked so well together. The burger was juicy. The toppings brought out complimenting flavors. The bun was perfectly soft. I also loved the fries that it came with! Toasty's also has a great drinks list. I'm excited to go back and enjoy perhaps a weekend night on the patio.
google avatar

Conroy D.

Yelp
I have been to Toasty's several times because it is close to our house, so this is a review that encompasses different occasions. I've had some 3 star experiences, one 5 star meal, but mostly pretty good which is why I'm giving Toasty's 4 stars. The place is usually packed and the indoor space is fairly tight, so be prepared to wait during peak times. There is a good sized bar and a long table against the back wall, so you might get lucky with seating if you're a party of one or two. The servers are pretty attentive, and because it is so crowded, service is quick in general. Toasty's has a lot of cocktail options, plenty of beer/seltzers, and soda/NA choices as well. As for food, many (including me) venture out here to try their well regarded smash burgers. Many of my friends have gushed about these. My wife, who hates burgers and has a gluten allergy, even loves their cheeseburgers. As for me - I prefer a hearty burger patty you'll get at a typical bar and grill. While I enjoy the burger at Toasty's just fine (McToasty is the best I've had), I make a point to try other things on the menu. I loved their chicken sandwich when I had it a few months back. Their grilled cheese with a meat patty is also very good. I recently ordered their grilled chicken wrap (which was okay) and a side of bacon (which was cold). Toasty's fries are also pretty tasty, and they actually serve you a good amount. A group I went with recently all tried Toasty's for the first time, and enjoyed the cheeseburger and fries. If you want to go somewhere to hang out with a group of friends for a couple of hours, this may not be the place for you. But if you're on a date or with a group of four for a meal, this is a good spot. They do have a heated patio, but a plastic cover can only do so much in 15 degree weather. If you're curious to try Toasty's, I recommend coming down to Shelby Park to check it out.
google avatar

Davis C.

Yelp
Fries were 10/10. burger was lacking for sure. I don't understand the hype but would get a basket of fries here any day of the week.
google avatar

Luanne T.

Yelp
There's a reason Toasty's has won best burger in Louisville three years in a row! Hands down the BEST burger I have ever had! Service and atmosphere were great. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
google avatar

Kesha B.

Yelp
This review was specifically for our carry out experience. We ordered the food and it was ready in about 10-15 minutes. The staff was friendly, and it was super easy to get our order. We ordered two of their burger, and fries. Their burgers were delicious, I wish it had more topping/ condiment options but for a regular burger it was probably one of the better ones I've had in a while. And that's saying quite a bit because I do love me a good burger. The fries were a bit of a miss for me, but that's mostly because I don't like the cinnamon sugar or just sugar that's put on fries. I noticed that a lot of places in the area did that so perhaps it's just a southern thing. But nonetheless we had a great experience and I recommend everyone try their burgers! .)
google avatar

Avery E.

Yelp
Toasty's has a cute interior that compels conversations. The bar is prettier than I expected and the glasses for water stood out to me. The burger was as great as I expected. This is a juicy smash burger with great flavor throughout. What really hit the nail on the head was the hot dog. Now something so simple should not have the power this hot dog has. The crispy bun edges and hot dog edges made it feel like I was at a 2000s cookout. I would like 14 of em everyday. Now my only downside is that the fries taste sweet? Adding ketchup made them taste sweeter? I am trying to determine if I dislike them or not, but I will be back for that hot dog.
google avatar

Lisal F.

Yelp
Well aren't you just adorable. Located in a quaint brick building on Shelby Street, Toasty's is exactly what one would expect for an authentic neighborhood tavern bursting with personality. We sat outside because lovely. The staff was incredibly personable - ensuring we were aware of the specials and various swag items that accompanied them. My dining companions very much enjoyed the paloma special (as well as their shirts and hats!). Vegan fish and chips - legit. The vegan fish cutlets are flaky on the inside, with delightful, just crunchy breading on the outside, and super delicious. The house fries are thin, crispy, and sprinkled with magic dust (which can be purchased for home use). This dish comes with vegan poblano tarter sauce which elevates it several notches further. Although the vegan options are limited, for those without nutrition restrictions and who are looking to explore, the menu at large is pretty extensive, and the drink specials definitely are worth a second (or third, or fourth) visit.

Yelp
Smash burgers are a must when visiting. Comfortable benches outside allow for larger parties too!
google avatar

Breanna T.

Yelp
From the minute I walked in, I was kindly greeted and grabbed a seat at the bar! I went on a Thursday, so I was able to grab a delicious margarita on special! Highly recommend the Vegan burger with the fries! These were probably some of the BEST fries I've had in a while! This place is pretty solid and definitely be back! Fairly priced and the service was great, everyone was extremely helpful and welcoming

Catherine J.

Yelp
One of the best little burgers i've had in a long time because it was really different. A smash burger with a great bun, grilled onions, lettuce and their special sauce. The french fries were dusted with their magic powder and man, were they good! I also ordered a half a wedge salad, which was made with heirloom cherry tomatoes, crumbles of blue cheese and lots of bacon. It was delicious. It was not too worse for the wear for it being an Uber Eats delivery, but I heard that their place is small and there's not a lot of sit downs and it was a rainy day anyways. Excited to go and eat there one day.And that's on my bucket list now!

Yelp
We took our friends to Toasty's for their first time ever! We had such a fun time catching up, drinking yummy drinks, & eating delicious food. We got there around 6:30pm on a Wednesday. Parking was great as we were able to find a spot on the street. We met our friends at the bar. One of the servers said they could move us to a table in about 10 minutes once the current party left. So in the meantime we looked at the drink menu & ordered drinks. On Wednesday's they have $5 margaritas which is was I ordered. Within 10 minutes we were sitting at a booth. Once we finally decided on food we ordered. Our friends got the burger & fish sandwich with fries. We ordered the fish sandwich & fried chicken sandwich drenched with hot honey & a side of fries. This was the first time I've ever strayed away from the classic cheeseburger but WOW was my fried chicken sandwich incredible! Juicy. Crispy. And drenched in hot honey. YUM YUM YUM. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. Before we left we ordered one more round of drinks. I ordered the White Girl Wasted. It's a banana coffee cocktail & I highly recommend trying this if you like banana & coffee. It was to die for! And I can honestly say I've never had anything like it or seen anything like it offered anywhere.
google avatar

Cary M.

Yelp
This was my first time here. We sat outside. I think the restaurant is a renovated house. We got the portobello fried mushroom appetizer. It was really good. It tasted like you were eating steak. I got the double cheeseburger and it was great. If you have ever been on a carnival cruise lines it resembled a guy fieri burger. My son added bacon and hashbrowns to his burger. Really good burger.
google avatar

Dominick F.

Yelp
I'm not a big fan of smashed burgers but this was one of best. The waitress was very nice and quick with our order. Enjoyed the seating area outside. All in all really enjoyed my lunchtime.
google avatar

Gibby G.

Yelp
Terrible. Terrible terrible terrible. Honestly. Terrible. Took 45 minutes to get most of our drinks. They forgot one of them, so it took an additional 20 minutes for that drink (an hour and 5 minutes for one marg #math). After an hour and a half of no food, and kind of rude service we just left. Terrible.
google avatar

Sydney L.

Yelp
A good burger. Not the best I've had and pretty expensive. Honestly a bit forgettable for me.
google avatar

Marian B.

Yelp
We came across this absolutely amazing tavern while traveling and would definitely return for another scrumptious meal. Food was fresh, well proportioned with an enjoyable presentation & reasonably priced. The interior was clever, relaxing as was the patio area where we dined. Our server was well informed, informative, and attentive To our needs. Highly recommend this fun tavern.
google avatar

Dora D.

Yelp
We had the burgers and they were delicious! The drinks aren't cheap what brought us in to give it a try though and they did not disappoint. We had the "Uncle Baby Billy's Bible Bonkers" and they light and refreshing without being overly sweet.
google avatar

Nate F.

Yelp
I searched "Best Burger in Louisville." and this place came up, so I gave it a shot, and was not disappointed. The neighborhood is sketchy. The decor isn't fantastic. There's not much in the way of ambience, (We sat at a picnic table under a tin(?) roof with a plastic tarp), but Toasty's has it where it matters most: food & service. That's what we're here for, right? They nailed it. Our waiter was on his game - considerate, helpful, and to-the-point, in a word: professional. Our food was out, hot and fresh, in 15 minutes, and this burger did not play. It was well worth $11.00. (My only suggestion would be toasting the burger bun, and, to be fair, they probably would've done it if I had asked.) The fries are a delight; not salt sticks. They were... sweet? And not like sweet potato fries, these are regular fries with a sweet seasoning. They were excellent, trust me. All told, our experience was great. My wife is very picky and she said, "I think we should come back, next time we're in town." So we will. You should give Toasty's a try too.
google avatar

R A.

Yelp
I ordered Portobello planks and chicken sandwich. I really liked Portobello planks and the light sauce. The staff were friendly and I was comfortable visiting there.
google avatar

Dre B.

Yelp
Toasty's is . Nuff said. Great burgers and dogs! Cool place to hangout and grab a bear with friends. I honestly don't eat here enough.
google avatar

Caroline P.

Yelp
Love this place and the atmosphere. The servers are nice and chill. I got the burger and hot dog and I have come back for more!! Thanks Toastys
google avatar

Russ R.

Yelp
The chili loaded fries were great! The burgers were average, but fairly priced for the area. Ambiance- Very crowded and most customers are seated outside under tarps. Advise against using the bathroom if possible. It's in the kitchen and best not to see that! Our servers were very friendly and polite. The hostess was a very rude and unpleasant gal. The type that will run businesses under. We were very close to leaving after dealing with her, but glad we didn't.

Joey L.

Yelp
Sat at the bar. Bartender was super chill. Good selection of drinks. Smashburger was top-tier fries and the seasoning was unbelievable. Gotta get the homemade ranch as well. If I ever visit Louisville again I'm 100% going here.
