Toba Indonesian Restaurant London Comes From Pino’s Warung Camden | Eater London

"A popular Indonesian street-food operator is moving into a prime central London restaurant estate this February, taking over the Michelin-starred Ikoyi’s former site in St. James’s Market. Named for a vast natural lake in Sumatra that occupies a volcanic caldera, the new restaurant will expand on the repertoire of the founder's stall—bringing beef rendang, satay and myriad fried snacks—benefiting from a significantly larger site and enhanced kitchen resources. Founder Pino Edwards is hiring staff across the new opening after a January delay." - James Hansen

What a great restaurant. Modest in size the welcome, ambiance, service and most importantly food was excellent. Asking for recommendations from the menu gave us a fabulous beef dish, a grilled fish and sticky rice. All fantastic. Don't walk past because you don't know the food... All Indonesian... Just sit down and ask to be fed. A real find. I'll come back.

Absolutely amazing and flavoursome food with beautiful, rich colours and authentic taste. The decor is stylish and welcoming, creating an intimate and relaxing dining atmosphere. Staff were attentive and friendly, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommend the lamb shank, Pepe Ikan*, Satay Ayam, and Otak Otak* -all cooked to perfection. A true gem for anyone who loves Indonesian cuisine!

I was looking for an Indonesian restaurant for a long time in london so I was excited for this place. Unfortunately it was not what I was expected and the dishes don’t seem authentic Indonesian food, and a lot of westernised tastes. The place was quite empty on a weekend and there were only a few tables. We ordered a few local dishes and chicken and lamb dish. The skewers were fine. The chicken was dry, lamb was quite fatty. The best part was the dessert which was beautiful. The service felt cold and pushy, and rushed, and the mains came out when we were still eating the starters.

The staff is super friendly and attentive. I am a big fan of Pino’s Warung so I have very high expectations of Toba. The sate ox tongue was soooooo good! Cannot recommend more. The lamp shank curry was amazing and went really well with rice. All the desserts were amazing and my friends and I were so impressed!

I recently visited Resto Toba with a friend, and I was impressed by the place's fancy ambiance. The atmosphere was cozy and stylish, making it a great spot for a meal. I ordered several dishes, starting with the martabak telur, itvwas delicious and not oily. Next, chicken satay, which was delicious with its rich peanut sauce and smoky aroma. Next, I tried the meat soup, which had a savory broth and was served with lontong, making it a comforting dish. I also ordered nasi kuning (yellow rice) with various side dishes, all flavorful and satisfying. For the vegetables, I had urap, which was fresh, and the coconut complemented it perfectly. For dessert, I tried dadar gulung, which was absolutely perfect—sweet, soft, and savory with coconut. However, I do think the prices are on the higher side. Overall, it’s a great place to visit when you're craving Indonesian cuisine and want to indulge in a bit of luxury.

Perfect resto to enjoy Best Indonesian food in London An Indonesian fine dining restaurant that I always visit every time I'm in London. The taste is exceptional. Not only does it satisfy my usual craving for Indonesian food, but the authentic Indonesian menu is packed with quality food that I've never tried before, even in Indonesia. If you come, you must try the super delicious Padang satay with tender beef, sweet cassava leaves with kale, the never-disappointing geprek chicken with its super spicy sambal and thick, spiced gulai. Don't forget the signature Toba Rita and cassava dessert for dessert. Every time I come, I bring family and Western friends, everyone is very satisfied. The friendly greeting from owner Pino, Dewi, and her staff, along with their friends, makes me feel like I'm in Indonesia, and they even helped me carry my suitcase upon my arrival. Oh, and the strategic location on Piccadelly Street, and the beautiful ambiance, with its abundance of Toba-style Indonesian textiles, makes me want to come back again and again. For those who want to experience delicious Indonesian food, you have to go to Toba London

First time trying an Indonesian restaurant in London. Staffs can communicate in Indonesian and many customers are Indonesian. Service was very good and staffs were all friendly. Food was delicious and was presented beautifully. Perhaps what missing was the non-perfect presentation and non-localised ingredients. For example, Gador gador with kale in it might work but it was not expected if one dines in Indonesia. Rendang beef had a good flavour but the beef was on the tough and dry side. In general, portions were on the small side. Understand that’s normal when dinning in central London.

Nice interior and friendly staff but sadly the food was disappointingly very average and overpriced. Authentic dishes but they all lacked flavour. Starter: the ox tongue sate was the only good dish. Tender and nutty. Mains: The nasi goreng had no wok hei flavour, the cod had a strange alkaline after taste, the rendang was tender but lacked any depth of flavour, the Ayam geprek was mostly just batter and the chicken wasn’t at all juicy. Dessert: got the pancakes and goreng pisang but you can skip, both were pretty standard and nothing special.
