Hugo El Wine Bar Review - Roma - Mexico City - The Infatuation

"Hugo feels like a Lower East Side transplant with a Mexican twist, which we guess is what happens when two former New York residents relocate here and open a place. Their wines, of course, are a highlight—they’re mostly natural, and many of them come from Mexico’s wine region in Valle de Guadalupe. Food-wise they keep it simple, with small plates of things like kampachi crudo and fennel with fava beans (though they also make a fantastic roasted chicken). Reserve a table in advance, or plan on showing up as early as your grandparents would to get a seat." - Guillaume Guevara

There are a few different spots as part of this facility. We did not go to the tasting room which looks gorgeous but it was closed. We did not stay at the hotel. We were were shuttled up in a Land Rover to the restaurant and bar which is poolside with a gorgeous view. Breakfast ends at 11:30 and lunch starts at 1:30 according to the times we saw. The menu was also very small so there aren’t many options for the patrons. There weren’t many wine options. The red was terrible, the rose was okay, and the sangria was the best thing of what we tried. Based on our experience and the previous reviews, I wouldn’t spend the money on staying her to be separated from my car and feel locked up on the top of the mountain separated from the many other food and drink options in town.

Wow, this was one of the best meals my fiancé and I have ever had. Chef Andres and Vanessa were so friendly and spent some good time chatting with us. They brought us out a few of the specials (tuna tartare with salmon roe, pistachio vinaigrette and a delicious salsa as well as a broiled sea bass collar. Oh and I can’t forget the sardines in the brown butter emulsion) Wow. The fish was so fresh and the greens were piled high. Vanessa was on the dessert and she absolutely crushed the sticky pudding and warm Madeline’s. We will be back with friends and we have a new favorite place!

Toba is a quiet, intimate restaurant for people who are either hotel guests at Encuentro or who want a break from the tasting and wine pairing going on at Animalon, Fauna, etc. We were hotel guests, and as vegetarians, the chef was so accommodating. He created a tasting for us for dinner, and we also had all of our morning coffees is there along with pool-side breakfast. 10/10 for service, 9/10 for food, and 7/10 for accessibility as people who aren’t guests have a bit of a trek getting to the restaurant but once you’re there, views are amazing.

A five hour magical lunch because of the company we kept, the private location of the restaurant, the setting and ambiance created by the architect/developer, and the exceptional preparation and execution by the Toba team. A meal and experience that will be remembered forever. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

Excellent light ALA carte lunch in beautiful setting. Excellent service. We loved the cauliflower soup and mezze (platter of delicious breads, dips and vegetables, we chose to not have fish since we're vegetarian).

Ate hear while staying at Encuentro. Loved every single thing we ordered! Especially loved the corn pancakes. The view over the pool and valley is unparalleled. The service is beyond excellent. Really hope I can go back in the future! All the food tasted healthy and fresh.

This is a place that I’ve really enjoyed over the years. And my personal experience is always good. People are helpful and the service is very good. Also they are pet friendly
