The 15 Best Nicaraguan Restaurants In Miami

"This Sweetwater bakery isn’t the type of place where you can grab a table and sit while enjoying baked goods and a cup of coffee. Instead, it runs mostly as a takeout operation and is the go-to source for rich special occasion cakes mounded with sweet frosting in baroque swirls and rosettes. They make a mean tres leches cake. But don’t let that be the only thing you get here. The guava cake is awesome, and highlights the fruit’s subtle tartness while giving the cake a soft pink hue. This bakery is also one of the best places in Miami to get buttery loaves of traditional Nicaraguan pound cake." - carlos c olaechea, virginia otazo

Esther Taboada Review - Sweetwater - Miami - The Infatuation

"This Sweetwater bakery isn’t the type of place where you can grab a table and sit while enjoying your baked good and a cup of coffee. Instead, it runs mostly as a takeout operation and is the go-to source for rich special occasion cakes mounded with sweet frosting in baroque swirls and rosettes. Owner Esther Taboada does make a mean tres leches cake, which is perhaps the most popular and well-known Nicaraguan dessert. However, don’t let that be the only thing you sample. The guava cake highlights the fruit’s subtle tartness while giving the cake a soft pink hue, and this bakery is also one of the best places in Miami to get buttery loaves of traditional Nicaraguan pound cake." - Carlos C Olaechea

We order the most delicious Cake for our 20th anniversary celebration and we love it! The decoration was simple but beautiful with the good designs.

Thieves. Ordered and paid for the cake - they told me to pick up after 2pm and they closed early on a sunday. They won't do a refund or give me the cake that I ordered. They didn't even call to say that they were closing. Don't buy from these thieves.

This cake is the most amazing cake I’ve ever had. We’ve been buying cake since 2007 and I’ve never regretted it. Ms. Taboada has done a great job with making her business grow, by offering quality cakes and made with care and love for everyone. These are the current prices, since I called today to update the prices on my notes! I totally recommend this spot 100%. Google
Best Nicaraguan cake in Miami. We love the guava filling. Quality is consistent and taste is authentic. They only accept cash. Price $48 a pound (20-25 people). No waiting when you pick up. Do not hesitate to order, enjoy!

Tiny place with a great service. Set up for carry out. You can order a cake in the morning and they would have it ready by 5 PM. This Nicaraguan bakery keeps and preserves the authentic flavor of its native pound cake. It's a taste of my beloved country. They also have a photo album to choose from in the waiting room/counter.

Google
I've been buying their cakes for about 27 years. the taste and quality is amazing. I have recommended them to my whole family and friends. Sincerely it does not compare to any other Nica cake.

Google
If you’re looking for traditional Nica cake. This is the spot. Only downside is that they are very limited to design. Like very limited.

Yelp
Talk about a gem of a place. I've been coming to this bakery for years to get my cakes. The place only sells Nicaraguan cakes and cupcakes and you have to pre-order them. Sometimes they have cupcakes without ordering, but they run out quickly. The cakes are not super fancy but they are yummy. They always have the cakes ready on the agreed time. They provide prompt service even though sometimes you have to wait in line (especially on weekends) because it is a very popular place. The cakes have been consistently deliciously and to date I have no complaints. The place looks clean without any frills. I would definitely recommend this little cake bakery.

Yelp

Yelp
I recently placed a small order to go from this bakery, and I must say they have the best Nicaraguan cakes by far! The flavors are authentic, and the quality is top-notch.

Yelp
Cake was fresh placed order same day in the morning on a Saturday. The price is very expensive for the presentation that looks like something you can make at home. Price $65 for a pound of cake. Service was good over the phone while placing order. Very small run down entryway. Needs paint and curve appeal.

Yelp
I've heard of this place for years when ever someone brings up a Nicaraguan cake. This is a small corner space in a shopping center ( you might miss it , it's the door next to the restaurant downstairs ) . I called a day before to order a birthday cake for the next day and it was ready on time ! Great tasting Nicaraguan cake , friendly service ! I will be back . * Cash Only

Yesterday was the first time since December that I had their cake again...and they've redeemed themselves again! Super moist cake and fresh guava filling. They got the correct dedication too!

Yelp
If your looking to buy an authentic Nicaraguan cake. This is where you need to go. I left buying a cake for my dad's birthday for the last minute. I went to several other recommended locations but was turned away. I started looking online and found this amazing bakery. I explained my situation and they told me they would gladly help me and would have a cake ready in the afternoon. I came back with my money in hand and received a full size birthday cake, just the way I ordered it. The cake was a hit, tasted delicious and to my surprise better than the other location I was originally going to spend my money on. Bakery is located inside a shopping center is somewhat hard to find. It located in the first floor next to a Venezuelan restaurant. This place is cash only so be prepared. They do custom cakes as well as wedding cakes. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
I was looking up this place in goggle to share it to a friend and I never released how little reviews it has this place has been open for so many years I don't even know how many years but I'm 34 years old and ever since I could remember this place has been around. All my family and I love this place love the cakes they're done with such much love. So for those who complain about the price honestly is because you don't know what good cake taste like. The cakes are amazing you can tell that they're done with love. all these cases that people make now in days that yeah they have great decorations and they look so beautiful but the taste sucks. This on the other hand taste wonderful and looks wonderful. Good quality comes with a price. Life is expensive they obviously have to price their things to make earnings. Every occasion my family and friends know that this is the cake that I will purchase. Friends from different nationalities that I've never ate this cake before every time I invite them to a party they always ask " are you going to have that cake you order last time" and of course I say yes and they say "oh great that's exactly what I wanna eat!" This nicaragüense cake does not disappoint. It's what a cake should be. I'm a customer for life!

Yelp
I called everyday since the 26th of December and no answer. They should be courteous enough to leave a message on their phone stating that they're out for the holidays but nothing. Im guessing they're not working and that would be fine as long as they notify clients.

Yelp
Good product with a side of tough luck. This establishment takes only cash - tough luck. They don't follow instructions and assume that you should know better - better luck next time! The cherry on top? It's overpriced.

Yelp
We have been buying nica cakes from here for YEARS. My brother in law ordered a cake for my sister's birthday and it was supposed to say "happy birthday mi Reina" (happy birthday my queen). What we got was happy birthday mi REYNA". It sounds the same but isn't the same. One is queen the other is a name. Unfortunately my brother in law didn't notice until he was home in Pembroke Pines. When we called to complain they asked that we take it back for them to fix it. At 5 o'clock rush hour traffic that was a hard no. Luckily we were able to fix it. If you look at the picture closely you can see where they made a mistake and tried to fix it. Don't get me wrong the taste is good and the cake is fresh. But like another reviewer said the handwriting isn't the best and they appear to be getting sloppy. Unfortunately she has the market cornered because we haven't found anyone else that can make nica cakes like her.

Yelp
This place has the best tasting Nica cakes in town, hands down. However, back in the day they started off at $32 per pound. Now I think they're up in the 40s per pound. Just wanted to give you the heads up, because it can be pricy, but worth the taste. Giving them a 3 star, because it's a bit inconvenient, that they haven't upgraded to taking Visa or MasterCard yet, so you'll have to stop somewhere to get cash before paying it.

Yelp
This place makes amazing cakes! My fav part is the icing ! I hate icing but this one is so light and fluffy. I highly recommend this place. I enjoy all the different fillings I could choose from. My favorite is the condensed milk. Don't let the location fool you. They taste amazing.

Yelp
So far the only delicious Nicaraguan cake I've tasted in Miami. I was looking for a delicious place that makes fondant or buttercream cakes but that were also delicious for my twins birthday I ended up going to this place to buy one of their cupcakes they have for sale because I called and they told me they don't have cake tasting but do sell cupcakes and I went. Don't be expecting a big place it is a tiny waiting area where they hand you the cakes. Anyways I bought 2 of their cupcakes and OMG ! I immediately knew I wanted that cake and flavor for My twins birthday. They are fresh and delicious. Ever since then i been ordering their cake from there and so does my family now. We love it ! Very delicious Nicaraguan cake !

Yelp
Ever since I was a little girl (I'm in my late 20s now), my parents would get cakes for any occasion at this establishment. I LOVE the leche condensada filling (condensed milk). The icing is kinda like a merengue, very light. If you're worried about decoration, just ask for NO LETTERING and have it blank with their borders as decoration. I suggest writing the lettering yourself or putting on a decoration for the occasion. Their writing isn't the best and it's either a hit or a miss depending who's in charge of icing. It's not overly sweet, which is great. I wish they would make cakes less than a 1 lb but that's the smallest they make them, so be aware of that. (That's a lot of cake). They taste and smell great. Oh, another thing, they're pricey. I just ordered a cake for Fathers Day (half jelly and half condensed milk) which comes out to $52. If I had one filling, it would be less. Probably around $40 or so. CASH ONLY. It's pretty crazy how they haven't really updated with current times.
