Tocaya Modern Mexican

Our family was just exploring the UCLA area and decided to try this restaurant! The place is nice ans clean with comfortable chairs. We ordered food and pay. Then wait for the food at our table. All the food is great! Fresh and good portion! It is a great place to get good food quickly in a nice atmosphere before going to explore the city more! Well, a margarita during the day of city walking is great! 😄

I love stopping by on Tuesday for their variety of delicious tacos, check it out. I really like both vegan and non-vegan options, they serve it nicely and it’s good to sit and chat there.

We got the vegan taco combo and all the tacos were great! This place had a nice vibe and decor and the crowd mostly had students. They have indoor as well as outdoor seating. There is a paid parking garage right next to the restaurant which operated at $2 for 12min besides street parking.

After living in Westwood for a year now, I can confidently say that Tocaya is my favorite off-campus spot!! I was first exposed to Tocaya during my first week living at UCLA, for a friend's birthday party. The aesthetic and inviting ambiance, the EXTREMELY kind employees, and fantastic food got me hooked. I took my parents here the first time they came to visit and they too were impressed (Mexican food is my mom's favorite, so she's a tough critic who was beyond excited to find a new spot). Yesterday, my club got Tocaya catering for an end of the year banquet, and the taco bar blew us all away!! The pickup process was so quick and easy (the food was ready at the exact pickup time that I selected, the employees were amiable, and everything was packaged beautifully). Before leaving with the food however, I decided to try a virgin strawberry margarita. IT WAS SO GOOD! It was insanely hot out, so now this is my new go-to refresher drink. It was fruity and sweet, a little bubbly, and ended up being exactly what I was craving. Once I got the catering back to my event, we all quickly discovered that the food was PHENOMENAL. Everyone in my club couldn't stop raving about the tacos, and strangers were coming up to our party asking where our food was from and if they could try it (we were nice so we shared, and they too came to the same conclusion about how incredible Tocaya is). The taco bar had every ingredient you could imagine for your dream taco, AND so many vegan options for our many vegan club members. One of my favorite parts was the cornflower tortilla. I'm surprisingly picky about my tortillas, but these ones were the perfect balance of toasty and flavorful with just enough sponginess to give it that gourmet feel. I'm also not a fan of beans...UNTIL I tried Tocaya's black beans!!!! The many different meat/chicken/tofu options for the tacos were also incredible. Cooked perfectly with SO much flavor, my mouth is watering thinking about it again. Overall, there's so much to say about this place & this location, but I hope that you give it a try because you will NOT be disappointed.

Ordered the grilled pineapple bowl and the protein bowl Recommend the grilled pineapple bowl! the flavour was on point and the pineapple adds a really good sweetness to it. Was not a fan of the protein bowl as everything was too starchy and heavy. Nice decoration & atmosphere

Good Mexican food that has an extensive vegetarian and vegan options. The indoor sitting area is pleasant and chic. The food is fresh and portions are good size. The staff is very kind and patient. It is somewhat pricey. Parking can be a problem in this area.

I’ve been to Tocaya Modern Mexican a couple of times. They have a large money from different kind of tacos, bowls, salads, burritos and more. This time around I ordered al pastor pineapple bowl with chicken, rice, beans , cream cheese and avocado. It was really tasty and healthy. For a drink I had a strawberry basil lemonade, which was very refreshing. I recommend checking out Tocaya.

Just opened today. Large open space for dine-in and very friendly staff. The burrito and the seasonal keto bowl we tried were both tasty - beef and vegan shall both be decent choices for protein. Overall, a nice addition to the Westeood neighborhood. P.S. We came in early so not much wait, but when we left at noon there was a line - quite popular!
