Tocco is closing in Wicker Park after 10 years of Italian fare | Eater Chicago

"Abate plans to open a suburban replacement in April at 507 Chestnut in Winnetka that will include a market area and serve pizza al taglio; the Wicker Park location will close in coordination with Winnetka’s opening, and Abate says, 'I’m going to stay away from the city a little bit.'" - Ashok Selvam

We had an excellent meal at Tocco. Service was warm and efficient, atmosphere was great and the food was excellent. We especially enjoyed the Fennel salad! Overall fantastic meal. My only complaint would be the fact they place a 3% surcharge for food costs. It is optional and can be removed on request. Personally I would rather see higher menu prices than additional fees. Small issue and won’t prevent me from coming back.

So my lady & I were there yesterday evening & we were both thoroughly impressed w the comfy outdoor seating area, great food, exceptional service (thank you Vesnar - request her because she talked us into getting a bottle of wine that was $30 less expensive - [which was a total delight] & provided the perfect amount of attention at just the right time!) Fabio the owner manager has pulled together a great team. The chef’s delicious Bronzino soft & buttery perfectly sautéed w delish green beans & potato side was perfect. The appetizers beet salad & portifino were both light & delicious. Perfect weather pulled it all together & we are both excited to try their new location Folio in Lake Forest. Thank you Fabio- the wine was exquisite!

Tocco is an absolute standout for Italian dining in Winnetka! We stopped in for lunch and were beyond impressed—not just by the food but by the entire experience. We ordered a pizza with sausage, and it was perfection. The crust was amazing—light, airy, and just the right amount of crispness, with high-quality sausage that added the perfect savory bite. We also tried the pasta with lemon cream sauce, which was beautifully balanced—rich and velvety yet bright and refreshing. Beyond the food, the decor is refined and elegant, creating a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere. The artwork throughout the space adds to the chic ambiance, making it a place where you want to linger and enjoy the experience. Service was excellent, with attentive staff who clearly care about the guest experience. Whether you’re looking for a casual yet elevated lunch or a special night out, Tocco delivers on all fronts.

We arrived with my wife at 7:55, so 10 minutes late. They seated us at the bar and we ended up waiting an entire hour for a table. If they had told us upfront that we’d have to wait that long despite having a reservation, I would have either gone somewhere else or ordered at the bar. In the end, after waiting for an hour, we decided to leave and not eat at this restaurant at all. My rating is 1/10 when it comes to organization. To make matters worse, they even marked on OpenTable that I didn’t show up at all — 0/10, truly shameful.

We arrived for a dinner with family for a special occasion. The table they sat us at was right at the door and had a cold draft, so we asked to be moved further into the restaurant. It didn't matter, the entire place was drafty, even all the way in along the back wall. I think our server let us chat too long as he showed up sporadically throughout the meal. He quickly took drink orders, brought the drinks, and then disappeared for 20 minutes. Then came back and took our orders. We all ordered soup or salad, but didn't see them for a while. Then our main courses arrived about thirty minutes after we ordered. And lo and behold, so did our soup and salads. Ummm, the table could barely hold all the plates. I ordered the gnocchi alla bolognese. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. The sauce tasted off to me. I don't think it was a bolognese, but maybe a vodka sauce with meat in it. It was weird. I wasn't the only person to order this dish and it was different for the other person, and it was odd tasting as well. It's not worth getting into the other dishes as everything was mediocre at best. There are a lot of Italian restaurants in the area, so there's no need to settle for mediocrity and bad service.

Really pathetic service - they are part of priority pass grab order service- I placed an order 30 mins before boarding - on the app it said the food will be ready in 20- after 25 mins when I go to the restaurant for pick up they said their machine does not work and they never got the order. I had to get on my flight without meal because of their bad organization. All the reviews here are def true

With all the praise this place gets I was extremely disappointed. The food was mediocre. Lamb chops were full of gristle, chicken with mushrooms and wine had no flavor, and the prices were not in line with the quality of the food. . It was so noisy I could not talk to my dinner companion the entire evening and despite a reservation that took 3 weeks to get in, we waited for 45 minutes with no place to sit down. Horrible experience!

The service here was not great. I found myself four separate times having to get up and go find the server. The third time was because they served 3 of us our meal, but not my wife. I figured the server could only carry 3 plates but after 10 minutes I walked to our server by the kitchen and asked when my wife was going to be served. Seems like they forgot we had 4 people at our table. We were celebrating a birthday and had put that for our reservation. They also forgot that but when I went up and asked (my fourth time having to go find a server) they brought us a scoop of gelato that they charged us $10 for. The food was also the worst Italian I’ve had in many years which was a shame considering we spent around ~$300 for 4 of us. I’ve never had to go find a server at a restaurant before, and considering the quality of our food (lasagna was burnt and hard, three flavorless bolognese dishes), I’m really left speechless. Maybe I went on an extremely off night, but this was overall a truly disappointing experience.
