7 Awesome Things to Do in Tofo, Mozambique in 2025

"Located in southern Mozambique, Tofo Beach is a small coastal town with a laid-back vibe where I spent long, lazy days in hammocks, pools, or on the sand and never felt ripped off — a beer ran just under 125 MZN, seafood ranged from about 400 MZN (barracuda or prawns) to 750 MZN (whole lobster), and a private beachfront bungalow was around 6,500 MZN. It’s an amazing place to dive and see big creatures like whale sharks, manta rays, whales, and dolphins, but it’s also refreshingly uncrowded: tourism actually seemed on the decline, the beaches and sand stayed clean, and the travelers you meet tend to be interesting (Peace Corps volunteers, Australians and Americans working locally, South Africans, or other overland travelers). Locals were friendly and often showed me around, took me to late-night dance parties and art galleries, and I even saw examples of travelers forming genuine local friendships (for instance, an American named Nate invited Orlando, who had never left his village, to join his trip). For activities, you can take boat trips to offshore islands, ride quad bikes through sand dunes (quad rental about 3,400 MZN) to find secluded enclaves or reach the distant ATM, or simply relax for weeks reading and watching sunsets. A common local transport is hitching a boleia (pickup truck or sometimes a boat) to get around quickly, but I wouldn’t recommend boleias as a solo traveler—especially if you don’t speak Portuguese—as they aren’t the safest option without local intel." - Matthew Kepnes

Beautiful beach with beautiful views and nice places to take pictures. The locals does how ever run too you and try and sell their goods. This is how they make a living!

This has to be one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever visited. it is clean and just amazing. The restaurants are a bit pricey , so I bought the fish fresh from the local fishermen and had them clean and grill it fore.

The beach is great, had a bunch of tents for rent and local items for sale, the public restrooms however, are a crime to humanity in every way and form, i advise strongly against using them, or even going near them.

Tofo Beach is a slice of paradise: soft white sand, warm turquoise water, and a relaxed vibe. Perfect for snorkeling, sunsets, and local food, with friendly people and unforgettable ocean views. A must-visit in Mozambique. This is better place to stay in the weekend, holidays and in the beginning of new year ( 31th of December to 5th of January)... there you find whatever you want.

Beautiful beach, great for swimming. There are other activities such as scuba diving. There are beach bars and restaurants, a small local market, and various accommodations. It is a very touristy area, so it does get busy and the locals sometimes harass you to buy goods from them. Parking is somewhat difficult to find.

Tofo beach is a very special place. Beautiful white sand. Amazing restaurant on the beach, and the market is filled with unique food stalls and eateries, each wonderful in taste and in service. The locals of Tofo are happy, friendly, and fun people.
