The Best Restaurants in Mira Mesa - Eater San Diego

"If you’re craving bubbling-hot tofu stews, such as kimchi jjigae, this restaurant serves them up rapid-fire. You can also order galbi (marinated Korean short ribs) and bulgogi (marinated barbecue beef). With a basket of unlimited raw eggs and Korean banchan (side dishes of kimchee, cucumbers, and soybean sprouts), customers don’t leave hungry." - Helen I. Hwang

I will still give a 5 stars because I like their service and food. I've been coming here before before my pregnancy and this guy. I dont know his name, but today he was wearing a striped long-sleeve shirt and a red cap. He's more attentive, and he knows exactly what the customer needs compared to the other person. Great work!! I can tell he's a hard worker💪 great job! I gave more than 20% tips but used a card. I wish I had cash because he well deserved it

Do not expect to eat a real korean food here. They sell disgusting junk, spoiled kimchi. I just don't understand why people wait in line to get in here. Kimchi- not fermented one. Definitely spoiled when I ate it. But not a lot of foreigners were able to identify That. Fishcake- they must've been in the freezer for you don't know how long. Tasted like old outdated frozen food. Cucumber- very dry and about to be spoiled. Pickled yellow radish covered in red pepper- this is not kimchi., disguising it to be radish kimchi. Tofu stew- ordered a regular spicy, color seemed disgusting not spicy at all. I bet the chef is not Korean. Hotstone- grinder chicken meat, very low grade short rib., no variety on vegetables.

#5 dumpling soup (mild) with white rice added one egg. My first time trying it and it was delicious. I usually get the hot stone meat party. Service is fast and the cucumber kimchi is always perfect! It got busy and would like to suggest bringing back the outside tables with a few heat lamps for extra seating. All in all great food.

Google
Food was fine and came out quickly. Cool restaurant concept. However, I didn’t really feel welcomed by the worker. When my husband and I got there, he told us to pick any small table. We misunderstood and picked a 4 person table by the window instead of a 2 person table so he told us to move to a smaller table. I get it, especially during rush hour, one would like to keep the larger tables open. However, a few minutes later, another couple sat at same table we originally picked, and they got served there. Honestly, I was a little disappointed, but whatever, maybe he got tired of redirecting people. But then out of nowhere, 2 bites into our food, he stops by the table and drops off the check. He didn’t have to say it, but clearly wanted us gone. I believe we were cordial and respectful throughout our whole visit, but we couldn’t even get a water refill without chasing him down. I’m not sure if the first interaction left a bad impression, but he was definitely acting out of pettiness. I hate writing bad reviews or not tipping, but this situation unfortunately deserved this recognition.

Delicious, and I like the guy that serves because he has good 👍 customer service.

Service is always fast here. We were seated quickly upon arrival. They bring out 4 banchan dishes right away. The waiter took our orders and brought out our dishes soon after. They only give you one free egg per dish. We both liked our seafood tofu soups with the nutty black rice and banchan vegetables. They closes early at 8pm.

My go to for tofu soup in Mira Mesa! My favorite would have to be BCD tofu in Irvine but this is my spot when in Mira Mesa.

Google
First time at Tofu House but don’t think I will go back again. Food is just OK, edible. The hot tofu soup looks like just water a few bite. I can make better tofu soup at home, haha. Not much of service. I don’t consider taking the order and bring food to the table as good service. That is just the bare minimum service. Nothing is free there. Water is bottle water which costs $0.50. They would bring to the table 2 eggs without telling the customer that one is only allows one egg per hot tofu pot. The other egg is $1 extra. They would also bring your check with just a total amount without itemizing. Terrible!

Yelp
This is a great place for food, but not family friendly. They don't have a single high chair and no changing table - we were going or go to a Korean BBQ place where you have to cook the food yourselves but decided against it because we didn't want the hassle of our baby being too close to the grill...only to find out we had to physically hold our baby throughout all of dinner here because of the lack of high chair. However! The food was *divine*. We all ordered the meat party hot stone and 2 orders of japche and man oh man it was great!
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
They took down our order wrong and refused to correct it; you should be taking responsibility for your own mistake and not have the customer pay for your mistake. When we tried to talk to another server they refused to make eye contact with us and avoided us. Will never come back and will recommend to all our friends and family to avoid this place like the plague.

Yelp
I've been a regular at this place for years, and it never disappoints! The combo of seafood tofu with galbi, paired with white rice and egg, is always my go-to, and it's consistently delicious. The galbi was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Recently, we also tried the hot stone meat party, which came with a generous portion of meat and veggies--perfect for sharing and packed with flavor. They also offer complimentary side dishes like spicy cucumber, kimchi, and other Korean favorites, which complement the meal perfectly. The service here is top-notch, always friendly and efficient. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great Korean food and excellent service!

Yelp
Unfortunately, the San Diego region as a whole lacks in the soondubu (Korean tofu soup) department. This is the best I've tried in SD, but pretty underwhelming and a little pricey for what it is... (I hear from my Korean friends that you can make soondubu at home for pretty cheap.) Felt like my tofu soup was pretty salty. But I appreciate the purple rice option. And the banchan (side dishes) are decent! Not a go-to place for me, but will come back if craving tofu soup.

Yelp
My boyfriend took me here on our very first date almost 3 years ago and we've consistently kept going. I've only dined in here twice, both times with friends and both times have been great. The service is really fast and the food, while I can only speak for the vegetarian boiled tofu, is delicious. It comes out extremely hot, like boiling hot so my boyfriend and I usually let it cool down for 10+ minutes before digging in and even then, it's still hot. Obviously there's a different experience when you dine in, like when you first sit down they give you kimchi, fish cakes, cucumbers and a few more things but unless you request it, you don't get that during takeout. The only gripe that I have is they seem to kind of want to shoo you out once you're finished eating so they're constantly coming to the table, asking if you need anything, dropping off the check, and clearing the table so be aware if you go with friends and you want to hang out and enjoy yourselves while you catch up. You might want to check out a dessert spot if you want to keep the party going.

Yelp
Great lunch place. Took my mother here for lunch. Their crispy rice or stone plate is great. Service is nice. The ambiance gave you a little feel of Korea.

Yelp
I've been here once many many years ago - wasn't impressed then and still not impressed. We LOVE Korean food and enjoy eating at Tofu House in Convoy so we know what good Korean food tastes like. This location definitely puts Korean food to shame. Restaurant was clean with plenty of open seating. Service was decent. Food was a huge disappointment. Side dishes were not fresh or crunchy at all, only the kimchi was edible. Typically, if side dishes are good, you know the food will be good as well. We ordered two combos and none of it hit the spot or good. The bulgogi did not look appetizing at all, looked like frozen meat was used, and dish was watery/wet, didn't have the seasoning or glazed like other Korean restaurants. The experience overall was unsatisfactory, and we'll just drive a bit further next time for good & tasty Korean food.
google avatar

Kellie C.

Yelp
If you're looking for something quick and warm, I'd come by here if you're in town. The menu is smaller than most tofu soup restaurants and you can't swap the soup out if you are ordering the combos. The soup itself was good. I got the dumpling tofu soup and my boyfriend got the chefs tofu soup with bulgogi stone pot combo. The stone pot had a weird burnt smell to it. The stone pot was okay. A little on the sweet side. The food came out pretty quick. The banchan was pretty typical: kimchi, fish cake, cucumber, and daikon.

Yelp
This place does not have authentic Korean food. Side dishes were lacking in flavor- fish cakes dry, hard to chew and tasteless, radish lack crunchiness B1 combination tofu was decent soup base; however seafood did not taste very fresh- probably frozen. Bogolgi had a lot of water, no glazed on the meat H1 hot stone rice bowl tasted burnt Ordered japchae plate, didn't taste like japchae-lacking sesame seasoning and its wet. Probably bc of the veggies that they add and the way it's cooked is more like fried Chinese style. Very disappointed eating all the orders. Btw, Japchae is spelled Japchae, not Japche. Service was decent waiter checked up on us 2-3 times, guess it wasn't busy. I wouldn't say this is Korean food, looks like it but doesn't taste like it. If you have to eat Korean food, convoy is the place to go, the Tofu house there taste much better
google avatar

Audrey S.

Yelp
I definitely prefer this location over their convoy one-- easy parking and fast service. Overall, the food is ok, good enough to be comforting but not the best Korean food in the area. You can never go wrong with tofu soup but I feel like the ingredients are not always the freshest. Their bonchon is pretty sparse and basic. I would not recommend their seafood fried rice as it's not that flavorful and the rice comes out a little on the soggier end. The galbi is well marinated but some of it came out slightly burned. This place is perfect for a simple, casual meal.

Yelp
Glad there's one in MM but it's more of a nice to have as an option rather than a must-have all the time thing. Came recently with a group of 6 for lunch. Food: They do have a good combo deal where you can get a hot stone crispy rice with a smaller bowl of boiled tofu which is great if you're hungry or going to split with one other person. Also I really like their banchan. Service: Workers are pretty flat but straightforward; they take your order and leave you alone for the most part. It took a while to get our check though as it got busier. Ambiance: Spacious with lots of seating and great for groups. They were playing a bunch of kpop (especially Twice) so they get points for that. Water: THEY DO NOT GIVE FREE WATER HERE. You have to buy Kirkland water bottles for 50 cents each. NOT COOL. At least they were cold but still, NOT COOL.

Yelp
Quick service & great food! They do provide you with water now as well. Pretty good for when you're craving some decent soft tofu!
google avatar

Lillian W.

Yelp
A reliable spot that always hits the craving. Fast service, easy parking, and great prices. Can't decide? Perfect, there's a combo that slaps. Every time! Nothing groundbreaking here - but who needs that every time? I just want simple banchan and a savory, spicy soondubu and rice options (I usually go for the meat stone party). This has been in my food repertoire for a long time and probably will stay that way!

Yelp
First time at Tofu House and the last time too. Food is just OK, edible. The hot tofu soup looks like just water instead of a broth. I can make better tofu soup at home, haha. Not much of service. Yelp
Why do I do this to myself? My mom wanted tofu house. I said alright, what the hell. I haven't been here in over 3 years...maybe it has gotten better? No. Not just no...IMMEDIATE NO. Just when I thought the last time was bad-and that it could not get any worse...it's BAD. Let's start off with the banchan. Tastes cheap and nasty. You want good banchan? Go to woomiok on convoy, save yourself from this place. I cannot for the life of me understand why there is not free water. They charge 50 cents-at this point, go ahead and do what other people did-bring your own water bottle. I guess the days of free juice and...of all things filtered water are gone. I ordered a #2 seafood Korean soup. The meat tasted funny...I could not narrow it down to what was wrong with the meat but something was off. I found 3 shrimps and 2 shrimp tails. No more big chunks of tofu in the soup. They went from a basket of eggs to serving you just one egg...any more than it's a $1 charge. I get it, because of the egg shortage that happened months ago. You upped the prices of everything, and I mean everything. The plate of fried tofu that I used to get a few years ago...was under 9 bucks. Now it's $16. LOL-at this point I'm going to the Asian market to buy a brick of firm tofu and I'll fry it at home. Also there's a charge for parties of 6 and up. Up the prices, lessen the portions, take away the water and juices and what do you have? The saddest tofu house you will ever grace your presence with. Can we get our Wendy's back now? Or was it Arby's? Either one will do. Please and thank you. So many other delicious places that offer Korean food, this ain't the one.

Yelp
We were in the area and thought we'd give Tofu House a try. We frequent the Convoy location, and didn't know they had a third location aside from this one in Mira Mesa. With regards to parking, the Mira Mesa location doesn't have to share a lot with 10-15 other businesses so the parking situation is much better. This location is much bigger than Convoy. Way more seating and looks like they have a massive waiting area. I'm not 100, but they may have had tables outside for dining in the past? Looks like that's no longer the case. Service at this location is better. The servers actually greeted us (lol). They have QR code menus at the tables. If you don't want to go that route, they have huge poster sized menus plastered all over the restaurant on nearly every wall you turn to. I'm not sure what the thinking was in doing that... it definitely doesn't help with aesthetics in my opinion. We ordered one of our faves... hot stone meat party (for me) and hot stone seafood (for the wifey). The hot stone was good... it didn't taste much different from Convoy. The banchan (side dishes) didn't look super fresh, but had good flavor and we're the same we get at the Convoy location. Prices have gone up due to inflation. They also charge extra if you use extra eggs because of the egg shortage. They also charge $2.00 extra if you order brown rice for your hot stone. It's been months since we had Tofu House. I don't remember them charging for that in the past. I'm not sure if that's something new or just something with this location. Another thing to note is that they only serve bottled water (for a fee)... no cups or glasses of water. 4 / 5: Hot Stone 3 / 5: Banchan 4 / 5: Service 4 / 5: Cleanliness 4 / 5: Overall
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
Pretty bad. The banchan smelled stinky and tasted old. The tofu soup had such a thin flavor. I would just go to h mart, buy the bcd soup packet, and make it at home.
google avatar

Alexandra D.

Yelp
I selected the hot stone crispy rice bulgogi dish and was not happy with my selection. I'm used to bulgogi being grilled but this appeared to have been boiled and the marinade wasn't very tasty. Also it's very hot when served so make sure you let it cool off before eating it. I liked three of the four sides they served with the dish and the bottled water option was good also. Unfortunately, my entree was just average. The service was very fast and I got my food quickly.
google avatar

Robyn L.

Yelp
I'd been here once maybe 4 or 5 years ago and it was not very good, and when I returned recently it hadn't gotten any better. There was no variety of banchan, it was too salty and the spicy cucumbers tasted really bitter/gross for some weird reason. They charged 50 cents per bottle of water and didn't provide any free water (not sure why). I ordered the seafood tofu soup and there wasn't much seafood in it. The soup also tasted a bit bland. Only 1 egg was included (they used to give a small basket of eggs if I remember correctly). The prices have also become too steep, I believe the tofu soups were around $16 and other non-tofu dishes were $20 and over. There was ample seating (although it was surprisingly crowded given the quality of food/high prices), and service was okay. I'm sure there are better tofu houses in/around Convoy, I definitely would not recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Alexis T.

Yelp
Tried the bulgolgi hot stone bowl. The presentation of it didn't really look like something you would get at a restaurant, more like something I threw together at home with all my leftovers. It tasted fine though, a pretty standard bowl. The banchan was overall also fine, except the fishcakes were on the salty side. They charge for water and that's a huge turn-off for me. 50 cents for a costco waterbottle. I'm not sure why they don't offer tap. TLDR: a pretty average restaurant that charges for water, but seats you fast
google avatar

Ashley N.

Yelp
Called Tofu House to place an order for pick-up and I asked for them to mix in the egg into my dumpling soup, person on the phone said you don't get eggs with your order if it's to-go. I think that's absurd since dumpling soup always needs egg yolk to be broken into it, otherwise it's not the full dish. I said okay I guess I won't order the dumpling soup to-go... and proceeded to order the beef bibimbap. I asked them to mix it all together for me since it comes tightly packed in a small plastic container and girl on the phone also said they couldn't do that for me. So I said ok that's fine. Picked up my order, and as I was mixing my bibimbap in the car, I found a THICK LONG CURLY PUBIC HAIR IN MY ORDER. I am so disgusted right now. I should've checked before I drove back to LA for this waste of money. Not only does the service suck (they can't even give you the egg that usually goes with the dumpling soup, but they can't even mix your bibimbap nor can they practice proper hygiene in the kitchen. So grossed out, avoid at all costs unless you want pubes on your food.
google avatar

Long D.

Yelp
All members of my party reported the bitter aftertaste lingering till end of day. So beware of the soup for your allergy if you have one
google avatar

Lili W.

Yelp
Saw bad reviews about this place but still wanted to give it a shot since we were craving Korean food early morning. This is one of the only restaurants I know so far that charges for water and extra eggs. I ordered the seafood stew hoping to get the big shrimps with the head on but the shrimps inside seemed frozen and small. I ordered mild spicy and my soup did not have a lot of flavor. The service was quick and they gave us our orders and check at a reasonable time. I don't think I would be coming back to this location though.
google avatar

Angel D.

Yelp
Decent tofu soup. I had the seafood special combo and it came with shrimp, oysters, scallops, and more. Included are some side dishes to go with your entrees. For our party of 2, we got cucumber and Napa cabbage kimchi, yellow daikon radish seasoned with a chile sauce and sliced fish cake. Hubs got the stone pot bibimbap; came with some veggies: zucchini, carrots, soybean sprouts but I missed seeing spinach. Two optional sauces in plastic takeout containers were provided including golchujang and something else. We came on a Friday night and there was no wait. Prices are fair considering many establishments have raised their prices this past year. Servers leave you alone unless you need something.
google avatar

Garry K.

Yelp
Pretty average Korean food. The clams in the seafood tofu soup weren't cleaned. They had sand in them. The crispy rice dish (dolsot) bibimbap was soggy. The side dishes (banchan) were just average. Nothing to write home about.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't let the word "Tofu" in the name scare you - this place is more than a cold, earth-flavored sponge. I get the same thing every time I come here - Bulgogi Tofu Pot with glass noodles. The silky tofu almost has a flan texture (not taste) that melts in your mouth. In addition to the tofu, fresh mushrooms and tender beef cuts float inside a delicious broth. This little hot pot comes out BOILING! They even bring a basket of eggs you can add in, make sure to add it in as soon as you get your meal so the egg has time to cook. You get a choice of spice level, and I feel a medium is the perfect balance of heat without overpowering the flavor. This dish comes with a side of rice (white or brown) which I add slowly throughout the meal to soak of some of the juices, but I try not to fill up on too much rice so I can eat all of this amazing meal. Give this place a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed!
google avatar

Shirley Wing L.

Yelp
Got the Dumpling (Spicy) Tofu soup. What I like is that if you have a party of 4 you will get two sets of banchan. The banchan is very Simple and doesn't have like 10 different dishes though it's more like 4. The spice level is not too bad maybe Medium is enough. They give ya a big bowl of rice as well as an egg. What I don't like is that they charge for water. $0.50 each bottle. What happened to free tap water? This place is already pretty expensive as it is so I'm pretty peeved that water costs extra here. My SIL really likes this place which is why we've returned twice in the last couple of months but other than the water part, the food is good. There always seems to be a light wait too like 10 mins? Even if it seems like there's not many people in the waiting area.

Yelp
I recently visited Tofu House to catch up with some old friends. I went on a late Friday evening at 8PM (closes at 830). I was able to quickly get a seat and service was quick! I ended up ordering the Meat Party Hot Stone Meat Party Hot Stone -Hot stone filled with rice and veggies topped with marinated chicken, Bulgogi and Galbi and egg added (at the table) -Super hot and extremely delicious! I loved the flavours of the Meat Party! I wish the quantity of the food was bigger (1 bowl alone might not fill you up). Definitely keep stirring up your dish otherwise the rice will get burnt by the fiery hot stone bowl. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Tofu House. The quality of food was good. The service was quick and rushing me out since I came near closing (definitely wouldn't recommend that)! I'd definitely come back again for the food but expect typical Asian service.
google avatar

Yelp
So yummy! We had to do a pick-up at the airport, so we came for an early dinner (5:30) and had no wait time. As always, the device was great and the hot stone pan-fried tofu was fire!
google avatar

Parisa M.

Yelp
I have been in this restaurant 3 years ago and i have not had a good experience. And also when i return recently it had not gotten any better. My husband and I ordered hot stone meat and hot stone seafood but we were not satisfied with the taste of the food. minedoes do not have any taxes and you have to add sauce or even teriyaki sauce to eat. the service was not good either. the ambiance was okay.
google avatar

Masae R.

Yelp
Casual Korean restaurant, due to the food cost rising, they limit on how many eggs you can have or even complimentary water. ( They will charge you for a bottle of Costco water= I think it's too cheap for them to do it ) There is no way you can enjoy hot and spicy food they serve without paying for a bottle of water even it's less than a dollar. Food is flavorful and great quick eat.
google avatar

Kayla P.

Yelp
Apparently, the owner changed for this restaurant. All I know is that the quality has gone down. Not only have they been skimpier with the portions, but the value has worsened, despite the price increase. They used to offer free eggs, but now you're limited and need to pay for extra. Please listen to Yelp and DO NOT order the galbi. It's practically all bone. We've ordered this before, and it wasn't a problem like it is now. We're disappointed because Tofu House used to be one of our favorite family spots, but now, it looks like we'll have to find another, as this place is no longer worth it. It's too bad the ownership changed. I don't know if we'll be back anytime soon. Hopefully not.

Yelp
This was a diamond in the rough- nice ambiance, lots of seating. We came late around 7pm not realizing they close early at 8pm. The food came out quickly. Banchan- doesn't have that nice, shiny freshness but tasted decent. Definitely felt like leftovers. Soondubu - tofu a bit too crumbly, broth actually decent - overall, a bit over cooked perhaps so felt like reheated? My dumpling was definitely over cooked and disintegrated. Kalbi - Super thin, don't think I've ever had such thin Kalbi, but portions generous and flavor and tenderness good! Overall, it was pretty decent. I came with low expectations given the range of reviews, but was honestly, pleasantly surprised. I could perhaps see myself coming here again. It's a very unassuming restaurant. Service was decent. Pretty sad that they cannot do basic service of water, but at least they warn that they are charging 50 cents for a bottle of water. I think they can make the signage more friendly that might make it more acceptable. My rating is probably a 3.5, but I'd round down since it cannot match my other 4 ratings and I might be deemed inconsistent. Oh yeah, I didn't understand why they charged an extra $2 for bulgogi soondubu combo vs the chef's special. Maybe beef costs more? All the extra charges are a bit unpleasant to say the least
google avatar

Melissa D.

Yelp
Solid, consistent quality, tasty Korean food. My fave go-to here is the hot stone kalbi ribs. Their boiled tofu soup is delicious as well. Japche is good to but for $17 Service is decent. It's really expensive here but the quality of food is good but the portions aren't much.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
Seating was quick and sides dishes served immediately. My favorite side was the fish cake! I ordered the seafood tofu soup, and we were brought a basket of eggs which I thought was cool. Once my tofu soup arrived, I cracked two eggs into my bowl and stirred it, as the clay pot was still very hot. Definitely an interesting experience. The food was mediocre...nothing stood out to me. The soup was quite bland and there was little flavor. Unfortunately I won't return as this was not my cup of tea.
google avatar

Yelp
3.5 stars Walked in on a Wednesday afternoon and was seated right away. All of us ordered different soondubu: dumpling, veggies, chefs special and chicken. I can only speak for the chefs special which I got spicy. Had a good kick to it which I enjoyed. Had about 3 shrimps (2 head on, 1 without and peeled), 3 clams, cod roe, mushrooms, kimchi and scallops). I dont remember any oysters in there. I wish I knew she meant purple rice when she asked if I wanted white or brown rice. I said white but if I had know it was purple rice I would've gotten that instead. Banchan was okay, least favorite was the fish cake. Favorite was probably the cucumber kimchi. Also when I ordered water she brought out water bottles. Guess they only sell water and don't serve glasses. Also wish she mentioned that before she brought it out.

Carlos O.

Yelp
First of all, the water they served tasted like bleach, and that was the underlaying taste of the food. It did not helped that I ordered the crispy tofu with stir fry vegetables dish. The description says it had mushrooms, it had almost none. That dish had little going for it. It was plain and bland. I had the worst after taste in my mouth for hours; maybe because of the bleach taste. And on top of that it was $18 all in all i am very disappointed and disgusted. The service and ambience are irrelevant after such an experience. My question was, should I tell the guy right there and then making myself look like an ass in the hope that they fix the issue or leave bad review so people can avoid having the same experience I had. Other dishes might mask the bleach taste and people might disagree with me. I am not coming back for sure.

Yelp
I really enjoyed eating here! I got the bulgolgi hot stone crispy rice bowl. The food came out super hot and it took a while to cool down, so it was very fresh. The workers were super sweet and kept checking in with us. The music here is so good and the ambiance is definitely a 10/10. The place is super clean and feels cozy. My friends tried some of the tofu soup and I was able to try some as well. I am definitely gonna order it next time because it is packed with flavor.

Yelp
the two stars (as opposed to three) might because i'd just had delicious soondubu up in ktown in LA a few days prior, but this place paled in comparison by a long stretch. food was edible. tofu soup a little on the bland side; seafood was strange, definitely had a couple bites of something that felt like intestines or something. too dry? biggest complaint on my end might actually be the banchan. only 4 kinds and definitely on the too-salty end. plus they didn't taste fresh. also they charge 50 cents for water; they don't offer water otherwise. waitstaff were perfectly fine though. meh, this place is a miss for me.

Yelp
They changed the menu. There's less options for the tofu soup. You get 2- the seafood or everything (which is seafood, pork and beef). They used to have a pork tofu kimchi one that I liked. Not anymore. The soup base is also super bland. My husbands combo soup was suuuper bland, like no salt or seasoning. He got medium spice. My soup was spicy and so it had some spicy flavor so mine wasn't too bad. The Galbis were good, had the combo. It's stupid that the combo only comes with the seafood tofu and not the combo tofu soup, so it's $1 extra for the combo soup, even though they are the same price on the menu. Not what it used to be. I guess reading reviews below they had an ownership change. Maybe that's why? Tofu soup is ok here, probably wouldn't come back.

Yelp
They hired some new wait staff that are on point...much more efficient and fast than in the past. Food has always been great & now they've got the team to match.

Yelp
A bit saddened by this location. The restaurant is spacious and the service is fast, however, Banchan was not too fresh and my usual order of the Beef Soondubu was totally off. I usually order the spiciest level and it definitely looked spicy. I noticed it was just a pool of oil on the very top and it wasn't spicy at all. In addition, the Beef Soondubu was really lacking any flavor. I did like the soup of the Chef's Special so I would recommend that here! They did not give as much tofu as other locations in San Diego. This may have to be my least favorite Tofu House, unfortunately. It is and might be the only tofu soup place in Mira Mesa area so it does get busy and would be great for the cold weather.

Yelp
Food was amazing! First time and got bulgolgi and brown rice! The seating and atmosphere is nice. My only critique was the staff- seemed annoyed at letting us know how the menu works and not the best attitude overall. But the food was

Food ok. Service also ok. Ambiance ok. Value for money is low. Hot Stone seafood was ok.

Yelp
This review is for the value which is horrible. We've been going here long before the Mira Mesa location opened so I am used to the free lemonade and fruit punch. I am also used to the full basket of eggs, not the 1 that they give you now. Did you know that they used to have a Large and Regular size for their soup? Now they only offer the "regular" size but charge you the same if not more than what they used to charge for their Large bowl. When I got my soup bowl this time, I asked myself right away, "Where the hell is the tofu?" These bowls used to be an overflowing bubbling cauldron of hearty yummy tofu soup now it's a crap shoot on whether you get any tofu, maybe some protein and a sprinkling of veggies. Be consistent! Stop trying to cut corners. Save the "chicken and tofu are stuck on shipping containers offshore due to COVID and no workers on the docks" excuses. The soup is bomb. But we would definitely be coming here even more if we get what we pay for.

Yelp
It has been at least 4 years since I've eaten here and I don't know what happened to the quality of the food. The price went up tremendously (as expected due to inflation and COVID), but I had expected average quality. I ordered 2 entrees, the galbi and japchae, and had expected it to come with a full range of side dishes. But for $43 and change, I got two tiny servings and 2 mini sides of just kimchi and cucumbers, nothing else. I love Korean food because it typically comes with a wide assortment of side dishes like kimchi, pickled bean sprouts, tofu cakes, mashed potatoes, cucumber, and radish. Needless to say, I was not happy there were only 2 sides. I thought, small quantity is ok, because I can make a pot of tofu soup to go with it. Dinner should be good. Well, it's good if you like to nibble on bones and greasy noodles! There were 3 pieces of galbi with meat on top but underneath was a pile of greasy bones. I feel robbed. $28 +tax for a pile of bones...It was nicely flavored though and I would've given at least a 3-star rating had the dish been less deceiving. I was just at HMart and should've bought the marinated galbi to cook myself--6 times that much for only $30! The japchae were the worst I've ever had. It was greasy and was mainly Napa cabbage. The flavor was completely off. I was really hoping to have a decent Christmas Eve dinner, and this did not meet my expectations. My tofu soup came to the rescue though, so not all was ruined. I enjoyed Christmas Eve with my father and daughter, and that's what matters most. Merry Christmas everyone!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I decided to eat here after work on a very cold day. We wanted something warm and figured, why not get some warm soup! Tofu House is somewhere we always go to especially when we feel cold or homesick. Usually we would go to the one on Convoy but we decided to go to the one in Mira Mesa. THIS REVIEW IS SPECFICALLY FOR THE MIRA MESA LOCATION. As soon as we got in, we were seated. While waiting, we got our waters, but the server took about 20-25 minutes to get our order after seeing they grabbed other customers' orders who seated after us. This was a 3/5 stars for me. I shouldn't need to wait this long especially when they were not packed this day. The FOOD: Side Dishes: You get your normal side dishes such as kimchi, fishcake, pickled cucumbers, and pickled radish. They all tasted great! We finished it before our food even came out and we requested more. The other server was super nice to refill them and packed it full. 5/5 Bulgogi Tofu Soup: I always get this soup with mild spice as I cannot handle spice as well yet. The moment I got a sip of the soup, it felt like warmth, like being at home. It was so delicious that I finished up the entire soup along with my rice. And, I guess after covid, they changed the fact that you only get 1 free egg and if you want more, they'll charge you extra. This was a bummer for me. I would give this a 4.5/5 For the spicy beef tofu soup, I personally cannot rate it as that was what my boyfriend ordered. Overall, I would come back to this location, but I still prefer the Convoy location. I will probably head to the Convoy location and differentiate the two.

Yelp
Been going here for years and used to absolutely love it. Now it's mediocre and something isn't quite the same. Still better than hotpot pricing and other soup spots in the area. The side dishes are the best though! I could eat a whole meal on the side dishes alone.

Yelp
I haven't been back to this place in probably 4 years since I moved out of San Diego... and compared to the before the food was definitely not as good. I got the seafood special combo which was decent. I think they used to have a beef and seafood combo which they didn't have anymore. There was a good amount of seafood, but wished there was more beef and less mushroom. The place definitely has been updated a little with the lighting and the brick wallpaper.. However just felt the quality went downhill... the purple rice was a little soggy.. We also got the hot stone pot with bulgogi that was pretty good. I haven't had it prior so I couldn't compare it to the past. They gave us water bottles which they charged us without informing us.. If I haven't been here before I probably would of give them 4 stars... but this used to be my favorite tofu pot... just a little disappointed now.
