Tofu King - Review - Arcadia - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Stinky tofu is a Taiwanese classic that involves tofu hanging out under fermented vegetables for up to a week. It’s an acquired taste, but if you’re a stinky tofu person, Tofu King is your place. It’s a small spot in a stripmall, and the signature aroma hits you as soon as you walk in the door. The deep-fried tofu sitting in a bath of soy sauce is what everyone here is ordering." - Jess Basser Sanders

Google
After several Taiwanese friends and family recommended this place, I finally got a chance to try this! When you first walk in, you will be greeted with the distinct smell of stinky tofu, indicating this place is absolutely legit! Fight through it, it will be worth it! The stinky tofu was most delicious, and after eating the stinky tofu, you wont smell it in the air anymore. They pork thick soup was great, and the sauces and vinegar really complement the food well to make many different tastes with the same dish. I'd eat here again for lunch or dinner!

Google
This place is very over priced (even post covid) for small portions and average food. An average beef Noodle is 20.99! I can get much better at any other nearby restaurants. The popcorn chicken was over fried, and the fried pork chop tasted like pure lard. Service is near non existent, the owner looks annoyed that you would even dare to ask for something. No water at all, is that even possible? What's wrong with their tap water supply? I love stinky tofu, but I would not come back here. I am shocked it's still in business. Needs to go or be revamped.

Google
Very authentic Taiwanese cuisine. I like fermented tofu a lot. Noodle soup is gigantic. Mine is the spicy tofu soup with green bean noddles. It mixes with spiciness and numbness but not overwhelms the flavor of other Ingredients. They are very friendly...Even we took a long time to decide what we wanted, they still smiled and leave us along until we were ready without any complaint neither emotional reaction.

I just wrote a review for Tofu King at Rowland Heights and gave it a 4-star, but I have to give 3-star for Arcadia one. Two restaurant are selling the same foods, almost the same quality. But compare the style and service, the Arcadia one is not as hospitable as the another. The owner and clerks were always Poker face, I always think is that possible because the food I ordered were too cheap? It's a pity I got such a treat and I love Taiwan so much. In my memory, Taiwanese are so kind and good mannered.

Google
Heard they have some decent fried stinky tofu, so we decided to give it a try! What we got? 1. Stinky tofu bite (8 cube pieces) $6.75 2. Spicy tofu noodles $14.99 3. Spicy wonton $8.25 4. Braised pork rice $9.95 Stinky tofu bite was not bad, the texture was probably the closest tasting authentic Taiwanese stinky tofu in LA so far, but it needs to be stinkier to be authentic. However, the rest of the food def was not worth the money they charged. I mean, look at the price I listed above! Would you pay almost $10 for a simply braised pork rice? Would you pay $15 for a bowl of noodles w/ only a few pieces of tofu and noodles (yes, no meat included!!) Compared to most Taiwanese restaurants in the the area, it is def on the pricey side. Overall, decent food but way overpriced, and they only accept cash and Zelle. I will probably not coming back, only if they adjust the price.

Google
Signature dish stinky tofu is overdone. Flavor, sauce and the condiments are good so it could be a misstep by the kitchen. Appetizer plate which should have been chilled or at least room temperature came out warm. Mala stinky tofu with bean threads is good so is the blanched vegetables. Not sure if it worth a return trip.

Google
Comfort food spot!! They now accept zelle but still not credit card. I love how the make a veggie 🌋 out of the cold noodle!

Google
Referred to this place by my friend for their stinky tofu and yeah they're good. Next time we'll try other food cause they have quite few variety of food to choose from. Prices are moderate to high ranges.

Yelp
This is my favorite local Taiwanese restaurant! The restaurant is located in the same plaza as USPS; there are decent amount of parking spaces in the plaza. The food is authentic Taiwanese and the menu is extensive. 5/5 Mushroom Sliced Pork Plate Tofu King makes the best braised pork rice. Both my son and I enjoy this comfort dish. I used to get the bowl, but I am glad they offer it as a combo plate now. It comes with the braised pork packaged in a small container, rice topped with corn and ground pork, stir-fried cabbage, and pao cai (pickled cabbage). The additional veggies makes the meal healthier and acidity from the pao cai balances the fattiness from the braised pork. The combo plate is also large enough for me to split with my son. 5/5 Stinky Tofu Their stinky tofu is authentic! You can smell the pungency of the deep fried fermented tofu when you walk inside the restaurant. They no longer offer the big tofu pieces, instead they are now in bite sizes. The stinky tofu comes with pao cai and garlic sauce. Make sure to add chili sauce! 5/5 House Special Beef Noodles If you like Taiwanese beef noodle soup, then you will enjoy the broth and toppings it comes with. You also have the option of splitting the portion of meat and tendon (100, 50/50). They also offer a stinky tofu beef noodle soup. This restaurant only has a few tables inside. It is a casual place to eat or for takeout. The enthusiastic owner and lady in the front are always nice to my kids, which is very much appreciated. They accept zelle if you do not have cash on hand.

Yelp
Step into Tofu King, your go-to spot for the bold and aromatic stinky tofu experience right here in Arcadia! Amidst a landscape where stinky tofu is a rare find, Tofu King proudly upholds the tradition with its distinctive offerings. Picture this: a rainy day sets the scene as I venture into this quaint establishment, its decor evoking a sense of nostalgia. But don't let appearances fool you - the tantalizing scents emanating from the kitchen hint at the culinary treasures within. With a quick phone call, I placed my order for a crispy chicken steak rice and a hearty bowl of spicy stinky tofu w/ pork intestine glass noodle soup. In just 15 minutes, my meal was ready for pickup, promising a feast for the senses. As I journeyed home, the unmistakable aroma of stinky tofu filled the air, a testament to its reputation for bold flavor. And let me tell you, the taste lived up to the hype! The crispy chicken was a satisfying crunchfest, while the stinky tofu soup delivered a punch of savory goodness. Oh, and here's a handy tip: while cash is preferred, they also accept Zelle for added convenience. Now that's what I call service with a smile!

Yelp
At the beginning, the owner was quite rude telling me he was the only person working and could not gave our party two tables for 8 bc he might have other smaller parties coming. He asked us to wait outside and end up he brought out another smaller table and put the table for us, but when we walked in, he insisted us to wait outside and it's quite hot during that time and we have one elderly and 3 kids in the party. Anyway, we waited and went in when he called us, The menu seems extensive and they are famous for their stinky tofu, so we ordered that, a cold noodles, oyster pancakes, a minced pork rice and some pop corn chicken and veggies to share. The food came out quickly and it's tasty. The tofu had a nice texture and great with the sauces. I also love the sausages too; it has good flavor and texture especially with the garlic. The cold noodles are also very tasty and refreshing. My least favorite is the oyster pancakes...the texture was ok plus not many oysters. The owner end up becoming friendly. During summer, could be hot bc they didn't turn on the ac when we were there, but luckily it's still winter. No water provided, you either get their bottle water or drinks or bring in your own water. The place is small, be prepared if you have a larger party.

Yelp
Nostalgia Taiwanese food with fresh ingredients (NO MSG) and authentic taste of many home-sick dishes. Definitely try their signature special - Stinky tofu, oyster pancake, beef noodle soup & minced pork rice! The menu is overwhelming with colorful pictures and description. Ambiance is pretty much what you may feel when you go to mom n' pop food stands in Taiwan. Price is worth the taste and how much effort they put in for creativity and insist on using quality ingredients for their food. The owner was trained in Chengdu for 8 years. So, do not forget to also try their Szechuan flavored items! Yum yum

Yelp
Food was really good ordered the mushroom pork noodle dish. Price was good as well and worker was nice. Would definitely come here again.

Yelp
I chose to take my family to this restaurant today to try it out after receiving the Tofu King menu via email from a coworker yesterday. My family was uneasy when they entered the restaurant due to the overpowering scent of fermented tofu. We placed our order for the following: Cold Noodle and Cold Dish; Taiwan Style Crispy Chicken Rice; Mushroom Sliced Pork Rice with Egg; Taiwan Style Crispy Mini Buns with Condensed Milk and Taiwan Style Rice Cake (include Peanut). I requested if we could have some ice water for us and the server informed us that this restaurant does not serve ice water and that you must purchase drinks if you would want to have something to drink. In the event that you choose to eat at this restaurant and would prefer not to purchase drinks from them, be sure to bring water or other drinks with you. The food is flavorless and bland here. It was a bad experience eating here all around. Most likely not coming back...

Yelp
Some people would run as soon as they hear this restaurant specialize in Stinky Tofu. While Tofu King are known for its stinky tofu, it does not reek. The store itself is not pretentious and have a mom and pop feel to it. My favorite dishes from Tofu King are: - Stinky Tofu - Stinky Tofu Beef Stew Noodle The owners are very friendly and accommodating, they usually would sub glass noodles for me. If you are planning to order the Stinky Tofu Beef Stew Noodle, but can't eat spicy food, I highly recommend you asking the owner to either omit the chili oil or serve it on the side. Nevertheless, this dish is slightly spicy even when I ask them to omit the chili oil. Restaurant is cash only, but they also take payment by Zelle. Come here if you want some authentic Taiwanese food.

Yelp
Overall experience was okay. Food was not as good as I thought it would be but the service was great! Very friendly and fast! Place was decently sized.

Yelp
The stinky tofu was great! Service is slightly slow, but there is always a friendly face behind the counter. The ambience is pretty casual.
google avatar

Hi H.

Yelp
So my friend brought me here and I am a new comer to stinky tofu and now I love and crave the stinky tofu all the time. It is so crunchy and wonderful ! I highly recommend!!!

Mary L.

Yelp
The portion is too small, the taste is average and the price is not cheap! Did you spend the money? The food was good.
google avatar

Yelp
The stinky tofu was not fermented enough and tasted like regular fried tofu as others have mentioned below. The sauce they provided had no flavor. I have no complaints about the cold noodle, but the marinated combination was not pleasant to eat. The bean curd and seaweed were not properly sliced thin and the seaweed was still warm/hot when we received it. They also do not serve water which is a huge no-no, and they instead make you purchase bottled water or their drinks for $4.99. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Tofu King gained popularity because it had the best Taiwanese stinky tofu in all of San Gabriel Valley. Their sticky tofu stood out because they were big pieces of fried square stinky tofu with their unique garlic flavor sauce luxuriously drizzled over the tofu. The mixture was a perfect balance of fried tofu with the wetness of the sweet, savory and spicy sauce. About 5 years ago, they switched to bite-size much smaller square shaped stinky tofu that you dip in their house-made sauce. I was very disappointed as that type of presentation and cooking was not as unique. It's basically fried tofu that you dip in a sauce which is very common and you can get it almost in every Taiwanese restaurant that serves sticky tofu or fried tofu. I still came today for their braised pork belly over rice as that's my daughter's favorite. When I don't have time to make it at home, I come here. Their food is authentically Taiwanese but the prices have become ridiculously high in the last 2 years. It's been a huge turn off for their past loyal Taiwanese clientele. Today, I also got their house made frozen Taiwanese pork meatballs to cook in soups at home. It's $17 per lb which came out to about $1 per one golf-size meatball. If you are in the mood for authentic Taiwanese food, I do recommend this place. There is no AC inside (just a big fan, it reminded me of the causal Taiwanese restaurants in Taiwan with the hodge-podge decor, stuffy air and smell of Taiwanese food) and be prepared to pay a little bit more than the other Taiwanese restaurants in the area.

Yelp
Was visiting this place from NorCal over the weekend and happen to stop by this place for some Taiwanese food. I was really enjoying what we order. The stinky tofu were so tasty. I will definitely come back next time when I visit. They only accept cash or Zelle so make sure to bring some cash. I hope there's one open up in NorCal soon.

Yelp
The owner is super sweet and we had a great lunch here! The stinky tofu was truly delicious and will definitely want to come back when I'm in the area :)

Yelp
**Make sure you carry cash or have Zelle! A Taiwanese gem located in a small plaza with other surrounding businesses. Their food made me think of home. It was my first time trying stinky tofu. I was hesitant at first, because I thought the smell would be unbearable. The stinky tofu at Tofu King didn't have a fermented smell at all. To be honest, I felt like I was eating regular fried tofu. It was perfectly crispy on the outside. I ordered the Taiwanese crispy chicken with rice as my entree. It was the perfect portion and most importantly delicious!

Yelp
Food sub par, Overpriced and store owner was rude. Doesn't have water, for dining in guests restroom, or credit usage. Then asks for a tip after. Won't be returning And I've doing take out here for years Bye Please read this bad owner

Yelp
I like it here because it proposed MSG free. Stinky Tofu is delicious. Owner is very nice and treat customers with respect.

Yelp
While the food deserves maybe a 3.5/4 stars, the price deserving a 3 stars, the service and attitude of the owner makes this the last time I ever step into this restaurant again and I've been coming here on and off for years. Not going to go into details about my confrontation with the owner but just take a look at other yelp reviews and you'll get the jist. Save yourself an anger inducing meal and just go somewhere else. This guy is a joke to be working front of house let alone be the actual owner of this establishment. If you decide to ignore my review and patronize this restaurant, just pray you don't go on an off day where he's feeling grumpy. Instead of enjoying a nice simple meal in a cozy restaurant, your whole day will be ruined by this joke of a guy.

Ekaterina K.

Yelp
I enjoyed the food very much and every dish reminded me of Taiwan! I'm not Taiwanese and may not have as high standards as some of the reviewers, but I loved the food! I'll definitely come back and will take my friends here. The owner was polite and caring.
google avatar

Jabez T.

Yelp
Authentic but way overpriced. Not sure how they are able to get away with charging $19 for pork chop rice when I can basically get the same thing at Lee's Garden in Alhambra for half the price. Cash or Zelle payment only. They must really be getting amazing margins on their food This would basically be a once a year visit type place for me.

Yelp
I am always on the lookout for STINKY stinky tofu here in North America where I am unfortunately stuck in right now so when I saw the sign outside this place I had to give it a try. Stinky tofu: The texture was on point! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Sadly though, it was not stinky enough and my search continues. If you read this review and you know of a good stinky tofu around please send me a message. I will be so grateful. Braised pork: Portion is small and perfect for one. Very delicious! Recommend. Owner is nice and this seems like a wholesome family owned business. They don't provide water or tea for free so you can either purchase a drink or bottled water. Bring cash.

May H.

Yelp
My hubby and I wanted authentic stinky tofu and definitely found it at the Tofu King. The owner makes his stinky tofu the traditional way and is proud of his craft. You can tell he and his wife put their hearts and soul into their restaurant. I will be back for more....

Yelp
Ordered here twice. Thought it was ok the first time so ordered again another time. Second time, my a choy was bitter. For the price, it's not worth it. My mom also had a strange experience eating in. She said they don't offer water and service was non existent. We won't be coming back.

Yelp
鹵肉飯超地道的!!好好吃!老闆娘和老闆都從台灣來的,很友善又便宜大推!Super decent Taiwanese food! I'd totally recommend this dish

Yelp
Overpriced and minuscule (TINY) portion! They dont even give you water and if you ask for it, they say they dont have water. Is that even legal??? Terrible service overall, food is good but will not be coming back.

Yelp
I recently visited this restaurant and I have to say, the food is absolutely delicious. I've been eating here for many years and the quality of the food has never disappointed me. However, there is one issue with the restaurant that I feel compelled to mention in my review. The owner, unfortunately, can be quite rude at times. I've experienced this firsthand when trying to place a to-go order. He doesn't like it when customers walk in and order to go, insisting that we call ahead instead. Even when I'm in a hurry, he won't budge on this policy. Additionally, when I paid for my order through Zelle, he told me to include the tip with my payment. While I was happy to leave a tip, I found it odd that he felt the need to explain this to me. Despite these issues, I still highly recommend the food at this restaurant. If the owner could improve his customer service skills and make the ordering process more accommodating, I would happily give this restaurant a five-star rating.

Yelp
I have been here many times. The Arcadia location has a better dining area than the others. First off, if you aren't used to stinky tofu, you better be ready for it, don't mistake it for a sewage overflow. Order the stinky tofu, and that is why you are reading this. It comes with a garlic sauce and chill sauce. Dip the tofu in both or pour the whole bowl of sauce on top of your tofu. Then chopstick your Taiwanese kimchi then stab thru the tofu, and shove it in your mouth! hmm hmm good! But eat it however you will. Couple things. The boss here is a salesman, and he should be. He will sell you the dish you may not want, and you should give it a try anyway. Your taste buds may thank you later. I wish he would turn on the A/C to room temperature, the place is always a lil warmer than other restaurants. Well, here you have it, you came here to the stinky tofu, not for the cram-up parking spaces nor frosting A/C. You came to smell and taste the golden wrinkly textured tofu dipped in the sweet juicy garlicky savory sauce!

Yelp
Cash, and zelle taken (626-673-8982). Many of the dishes are different from what I'm accustom but we enjoyed most of it. Decent food. I still prefer it more than canto cafe food? It's lighter? You can order via phone and the owner can speak English. - Pork chop rice combo is tasty. It's not the typical Taiwanese breaded version. We'd order this again! - Oyster omelette is more omelette style than Taiwanese version but my so likes it better this way. - Mushroom sliced pork meat rice combo was okay. Sad cause this is what we use to love to get from here. - Pancake was very very fried which we didn't mind. It's different from the layers and chewy type. Even though the food is different, we really enjoyed the large portion and combo mix of veggies. We defintely know what to expect and will be coming back for takeout. Maybe we got really lucky? We ordered it at 6pmish on a Saturday night. Everything was fresh, 20min for our order.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. The owner/manager had always been so kind to me and hubby. He's always so patient in walking us through the menu. Favorite dishes: -Stinky Fried Tofu: I prefer the larger cut of tofu vs. bite size. -Fried Pork Chop Rice: The pork chop is always fried just right. I'm not a big fan of fried food, but I'll grab a couple of slices from hubby. -Mushroom Ground Pork Rice w/Egg (brown rice): The little chunks of mushroom sucks in all the meat sauce. Brown rice is generally tough to chew, but after absorbing the sauce. It's one of the best brown rice dish I've had. -Spicy Stinky Tofu Glass Noodle Soup: I always get the glass noodles instead of noodles so it doesn't fill me up so easily. The steamed stinky tofu is so much more "stinkier" than the deep fried ones. The spiciness numbs the mouth. Just the way I like it!
google avatar

Yelp
For COVID safety I ordered myvmral togo. It looked like they are only open for takeout. I called in the order and was given an approximate time the food would be ready. When I arrived the food was already ready and was being stored in an ice chest so that it wouldn't get cold quickly. That was awesome. When I called in my order I appreciated the service. He spoke English, Taiwanese and Mandarin. For someone Taiwanese but grew up in the US this was very helpful for me since I am limited in reading a Chinese menu but am familiar with saying Taiwanese dish names. Good Taiwanese comfort food. Good service.

Yelp
I love Tofu King. They should be getting more higher reviews in my opinion. This is a small restaurant owned by a couple. They are extremely nice and always provide excellent service. I love coming here because I know they will take good care of me. The location provides a parking lot and easy to find parking. They are opened during COVID. So I know I can always get good authentic taiwanese food just like how my parents make. I am Taiwanese. So when it comes to authentic Taiwanese food, I can always count on Tofu King to satisfy my cravings. Now as a Taiwanese, stinky tofu is a must try side dish to go with any entrees. Tofu King is well known in SGV for delivering the best stink tofu. It has the to have the perfect stinkiness and crispiness to be legit. And it has to come with prickled cabbage and the savory dipping sauce. The portion is generous to share with the family. As far as the entrees, the pork chops, chicken leg, minced pork, sliced pork and popcorn chicken dishes are my favorite. They serve with side dishes too like veggies, minced pork, pickled cabbage, etc. The portion is generous and feels my stomach with Taiwanese love. The price overall is reasonable compared to the portion.

Yelp
I got pork chop rice, wanton soup, stinky tofu and marinated combination. I was from Taiwan originally and can't go back to visit because the pandemic. I miss Taiwanese food a lot, that's why I find this on Yelp. The pork chop rice and wanton soup were good. But the stinky tofu wasn't stinky and marinated combination also tasted no flavor.

Yelp
Never been to this place but thought I try. I don't recommend this place to anyone, food is not good price is high and services terrible terrible. Save yourself the time and go else where.

Yelp
Heard they have some decent stinky tofu, so we decided to give it a try! What we got? (As of Nov. 2021) 1. Stinky tofu bite (8 small cube pieces) $6.75 2. Spicy (Mala) stinky tofu noodles $14.99 3. Spicy wonton $8.25 4. Braised pork rice $9.95 Fried stinky tofu bite was not bad, the texture was probably the closest tasting authentic Taiwanese stinky tofu in LA so far, but it needs to be stinkier to be authentic. However, the rest of the food def was not worth the money they charged. I mean, look at the price I listed above! Would you pay almost $10 for a simply braised pork rice? Would you pay $15 for a bowl of noodles w/ only a few small pieces of stinky tofu (yes, no meat included!!) Compared to most Taiwanese restaurants in the area, this place is def on the expensive side! All in all, decent food but overpriced & they only accept cash and Zelle.

Yelp
Very nice owners and super tasty food! Highly recommend their stinky tofu and spicy pepper chicken! Every time we come back to the area, we'd go there and order the same things. They make each order fresh. It's been years and the food still taste the same! Overall very decent spot. I'd recommend this restaurant if you like traditional Taiwanese street food!
google avatar

Yelp
The owner attitude is bad when we have 6 people so need to wait for big table and no AC turn on at all during the day. Also no water served need to buy their drink for $4.99. Food is not bad but super expensive. I won't go back again.

Yelp
First time came here, probably don't want come back anymore. This food quality was decent . I ordered the mushrooms sliced pork plate. It was so salty and the pork too mushy. I felt the price is high for the lunch box food. It was $18.75. It was not worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered 5 different things and all of them were not great. Food was edible but meat was tough, sticky rice was hard, and the flavor of everything was very mediocre.

Yelp
After several Taiwanese friends and family recommended this place, I finally got a chance to try this! When you first walk in, you will be greeted with the distinct smell of stinky tofu, indicating this place is absolutely legit! Fight through it, it will be worth it! Absolutely everything was delicious, and after eating the stinky tofu, you wont smell it anymore. It's totally worth it! Definitely a gem in Taiwanese cuisine around here, coming from a Chinese guy just exploring the food :) I'd eat here again for lunch or dinner!

Yelp
As you open the door and walk in you say to yourself; "Man! This place stinks. Im ready to eat!" Many people come through this shop for their stinky fried tofu and they're in no better place to treat their taste buds. This shop sells them in large and bite size options. Both are great but I prefer the large size with their soy sauce and chili sauce. More to chew on and i feel I'm getting for tofu than anything. Now maybe you're not a fan of stink tofu and was dragged here by your partner, your friends or you walked in the wrong shop and didn't want to feel rude turning tail (don't judge, its happened to people...). There are other taiwanese dishes worth trying here. I found in my experience some were hit or miss and its worth finding out which dish will stick with you as you return to the shop. Their beef stew noodle is fairly good, especially with the tendon. The broth is very flavorful and definitely fill you up. The mushroom sliced pork rice is also very flavorful paired with some appetizers/snacks can really fill you up. There is also the mushroom ground pork with rice available but I recommend sticking with the former for that pop in your flavor. The cold noodle is fairly tasty but a bit on the sweet side. Many people like it but I'll only go for it when I have a bit of a sweet craving. Similarly with the spicy oil wonton. I was hoping for a very flavorful spicy oil taste but however much spicy oil is mixed in with this wonton is overpowerered by the peanut butter base taste found in their cold noodle dish. This dish is also on the sweeter side. Their meatball glass noodle is also very delicious. Don't forget to add the pepper to make the soup stand out. Rou yuan and mi gao was a definite miss, due to the taste and texture. Especially true with the rou yuan, very hard to find a shop that gets the outer layer covering texture right. While you make your way there, don't worry about parking. We were always able to get parking in their lot.

Yelp
This was a hard 3-3.5 for me to give, because the service was attentive and as friendly as a "hole in the wall" family-like Taiwanese joint can get. The restaurant was clean. The menu looks delicious, and there are tons of options. As a vegetarian, this got me excited that there were so many options. Basically, instead of using a bone broth for the vegetarian noodle soups, they just use water. I got a dan dan mien/sesame noodle, garlic bok choy noodle soup, and fried stinky. My first impressions were that indeed, for the amount of tofu we got, the price is a bit steep. The tofu wasn't as stinky as expected (USA regulations maybe), and over-all it was underwhelming. The garlic noodle soup was very garlicky so hard to mess up. The soup itself was great, but the noodles were over-cooked and kept breaking apart with chopsticks. The dan dan mien was surprisingly watery. Maybe it was the style, but other places usually have a thicker sauce. It was almost a sesame noodle soup that had a 1 dimension flavor (sesame). As such a simple dish, I guess you could call it "homestyle," but I know other joints add other flavor dimensions like spice or some sort of pickle. Overall, it was disappointing, because the menu looked so good on paper. It's an ok place, but I would probably choose to frequent other vegetarian-friendly Taiwanese locations in the area.

Yelp
Y'all tripping. I have zero clue how this place has anything less than 4.5 stars. This is hands down the best braised pork rice (滷肉飯) in LA, possibly even better than any spot I've had in Taipei. The braised pork is extremely tender and flavorful while being cut into perfectly small shapes to really complement the rice, which has a sauce that is the right amount of oil and flavor. The rice isn't too soggy tasting, while the meat isn't dry at all, so they really mastered the perfect balance you're looking for. Most other ones I've tried in LA usually have either one of those problems. As far as their name goes, so far I've only tried the fried stinky tofu, which is decent. Nothing to rave about, but not bad if you're craving it. I will be back soon to try the mala braised stinky tofu.

Yelp
This place gets your jaw dropping. I was born and raised in Taiwan, and let me tell you -- to find Taiwanese food that stick true to the core is the hardest thing in US. However, this is one of the few that meets my expectation. This is a hole in a wall that you walk in not expecting much but come out truly satisfied. The food ranges from your typical street food of stinky tofu, taiwanese sausage, to minced pork rice, that's truly off the chart (top 3 recommendation btw). Price: I'd say its worth for the quality, however it is on a little of the pricier side for the smaller dishes/appetizers. One down fall however, they are a cash only place. Meaning, stock up on cash before coming here! Food: beyond amazing! like mentioned before -- highly recommend the taiwanese sausage, the chicken&pork rice, and lastly -- my favorite two dish, the stinky tofu & the minced pork rice (which completely melts in your mouth! truly my favorite!). If you are a stinky tofu fan, the fried stinky tofu will bring you home! Service: the waiter is a hit and miss -- its always the same guy (i think he's the owner or partial owner but I could be wrong). He sometimes can come off rude, and other times can come off nice. But I go there for the food more than the service, so its alright. The serving speed is pretty fast, they don't leave you starving for long! The space: the space there is a little small, if you have a big party coming, you should call them in advance. We called in for a party of 13 which they were able to help accommodate. But to pull 13 chairs basically took up half of their place. (just to give an idea of the size). Parking: there's parking in the plaza, I dont think I have ever had problem finding parking there because the plaza is pretty quiet in itself. However, if there is trouble finding parking, there's a huge parking lot across the street that can accommodate. Overall, I give this place 5/5 not for the service, but for the food. It's always my go to place when I feel home sick even if its a 30-45 minute drive for me. It beats paying $1000 to fly back to taiwan when you are homesick! haha. Def a need to visit spot for anyone who loves taiwanese food and haven't been here before. If you think sinbala is good, oh just wait till you try this place!

Yelp
One of our kids favorite when visiting LA. They have the best minced pork with fat on rice, fried tofu, fried tempura as well as traditional Taiwanese minced pork filled fishball soup. I always buy their frozen fishballs for future use. It's better than the ones in the Chinese market and it gives flavor to any soup.

Yelp
The beef pancake rolls were really tasty, definitely top 3 for me. Tender bits of beef, with the garnishes rolled up inside, and the pancake part was not too oily or anything. I would for sure get this again. I got the fried stinky tofu in bite sized pieces and they were decent. They do have that funk, but they weren't too memorable. Too bad since this place is called Tofu King. The spicy wontons were horrible; completely over cooked wrappers but true to the name, they are very spicy. I would give a worse rating but the beef rolls were really really good, and in light of how much restaurants are limited and needing to cut back on staff, I understand it's probably one chef making all the orders (or that's what bf saw when he went to pick up the order).

Yelp
The restaurant owner was so nice. The food was absolutely same as what I had in Taiwan.
