Toh-A'

"This restored 80-year-old Japanese home houses a rustic and atmospheric dining room. To enter, diners walk through a small courtyard covered in antique tiles with water pooling over them. Only prix-fixe menus are offered; ingredients are mostly from Taiwan, prepared using classical French techniques, with an element of surprise in the tastes, textures and even temperatures of the food." - Michelin Inspector

Google
A must visit restaurant for my wife and I every time we visit Taipei. Food, drinks, service, presentation and staff all excellent. The duck is a must try, even better than lots of M⭐️ restaurants.

Very sumptuous and filling Michelin Dinner at Toh-A. Especially love the Lobster Bisque Mixed Seafood, Noodle Soup. Super good service and very attentive server. The place is also very well renovated. Ate at many Michelin restaurants and this is one of the best around.

Ive been wanting to try Toh'a for a while, but was slightly apprehensive by the borderline reviews commenting on only average food. However rest assured that I found every dish in the lunch set menu to be absolutely delicious. The abalone salad, duck liver dish, and lobster noodles were all delicious. For the main course, I tried the lamb chops and duck comfit. Portions were generous and the flavors were delicious and well cooked. Bread can be refilled if you are still hungry, and the seaweed compound butter wasdl delicious. The service was attentive and food descriptions were good. The only small complaints would be that - It's a bit chilly inside - Seats and table are spacious and very comfortable. However since all guests are seated in the same single dining area, there is a risk of noisiness defending on the other guests - male toilet is a bit small. At lunch menu prices, it's definitely worth a visit.

Service is good and the ambience is really nice but the food was very disappointing for the price we paid. Flavour was average and plating needs improvement. I had pretty high expectations and unfortunately, none of the dishes wowed me. Mostly sub par. (This is a late review)

Great lunch at Toh-A. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Food was excellent but that lobster & seafood noodles dish was truly beautiful. The birthday dessert was a cute surprise for my friend too.

Google
Really nice ambience, industrial and zen at the same time. Enjoyed a quite peaceful lunch. The dishes were all quite tasty and flavorful, good creativity. The only disappointment was the souffle desert, didn't like the texture, though presentation was nice. Great service staff!

Google
The food was an interesting Taiwanese-French fusion, although I’d say it did lean more on the French side. Food was a bit buttery but still very delicious and if it’s your birthday they offer a giant soufflé for you.

A great omakase styled restaurant serving western Taiwanese dishes.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant ! I went in with no expectations and I loved it. I went for dinner it was a set menu , which changes every quarter. Each course was beautifully plated and tasted delicious. Remember to order or ask for the soufflé at the time of booking , as what the chef comes out with is incredible ! I would definitely go back when they change the menu in a few months. Ambience wise is perfect for date night or special occasion . Decoration and service also on point . Highly recommended!

Yelp
Toh-A' presentation of its dishes are creative and detailed. The chef Bu Qiurong (Abu) creatively combined Taiwanese and French cuisine in a way that is rich and innovative. The fusion of the 2 cuisines was beautifully presented and is an enjoyment for your sense of smell, taste, and visual. The comfortable environment allowed one to calm down peacefully and enjoy a delicious meal and company of your friends and family. The waitresses of the restaurant are very attentive to details. Overall, the dining experience is an enjoyable one for sure.

Yelp
I saw gorgeous photos on Yelp several months ago and bookmarked for future special occasions and my friends and I were trying to figure out a place to try for dinner one night and decided on Toh-A' based on the gorgeous photos. Upon arrival, there is a staff waiting by the entrance. There is a gorgeous garden and it is very Japanese when you walk on the stone steps to get to the door. Definitely A+ for ambiance. They even put cricket chirping sounds for that summer night feel. The interior design on the inside is just as gorgeous and the place was packed for a Tuesday night. It was a very upscale restaurant but the chatter made it seem much more casual. The menu was presented as a fan. (Fancyyyyy) Service was incredibly attentive (there are also a lot of staff on standby so you are bound to get someone's attention in a matter of seconds) and our server thoroughly briefed us on the specials for the day and was very patient with repeating options for the set menu. It was after we ordered that we shifted in our seats and asked if we know how much dinner is supposed to be. It was approximately $100 USD/person (~$3000 NTD) for 2 appetizers, 1 soup, 1 bread basket, 1 sorbet, 1 entree, 2 desserts, and a coffee/tea. As you can tell from the stunning plating, they put a lot of thought and effort into using local Taiwanese ingredients and presenting them in a French style. I definitely recommend this place for dinner with parents as well as special occasions. You will have an amazing time at Toh-A!!

Yelp
Coolest entry. Round hole in the wall, opens into a beautiful court yard. Very zen. The restaurant itself is modern, sleek, and simplistic. One big room with 2 rows of long tables - with rearrangeable table tops to accommodate different sized parties of diners - complete with succulent plant gardens, adding to the zen feel. We went for lunch - very nice atmosphere. We had a 3 month old baby with us - were scared he would be disruptive. However, the large windows let in a lot of natural light, giving the restaurant a more casual, yet sophisticated feel. Another table had a 1-2yo too. I think kids are ok for lunch, though not sure about dinner. Service was, on a whole, very professional, (except this one waitress, but lets not let her drag down everyone else). Food - the sashimi entree was amazing!!!!!!!!! Super fresh - juicy and sweet!!!!! Bread was good - 3 types - all very yummy - even when reheated the next day. Great texture, lots of flavour. The soup was also good - lobster bisque - very rich and creamy. The mains were... a hunk of meat - standard as with most western mains really. Now, the dessert... it was pre-plated!!! The plate had dew on it and the strawberry was frozen - a bit disappointing. However, the dessert itself - chocolate semifreddo - taste and consistency was right on. Their coffee - my 2nd favourite part of the meal after the sashimi - was delicious!!! Very strong aromas but not bitter or sour at all. Better than most, if not all, the cafes I've tried in Taiwan.

Yelp
I like this place. I give 4 stars for the food and 5 for the restaurant décor and style. In fact, although I very very much enjoyed my meal, it was the décor I found myself most drawn to throughout the meal, everything from the path to enter the restaurant (steps taking you over old traditional roof tiles) to the decorations on the table to the lights above the table. I don't know what that means that these were my most vivid memories of the meal (maybe the fantastic décor a bit too much?). But yes, I'll say it again, the food was great, and the only mistake I made was ordering the steak instead of the lamb - the lamb was much much better. And the only weakness in the meal was the bread, but I wouldn't expect an Asian restaurant to make great bread, and although I guess this is considered a 'Taiwanese-French' restaurant, and although the French do make fantastic bread, I think this restaurant should just take the bread and butter off the table. They have a 'wine cellar' but you can also bring your own wine (with a corking fee). Pricey but I would definitely come here again.

Yelp
Oh so good. Service and food are both top notch. Highlights are the turnip cake, lobster bisque, and lobster with steamed egg.

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance with sumptuous food. Very innovative Taiwanese-French fusion set menu, my favorite was the foie gras on turnip cake.

Yelp
This place was amazing! From the decor to every little detail about the food and service. This place was definitely expensive, but I feel like they had a right to be pricey since everything was very thoughtful and excellent. I liked everything on the tasting menu and it was super unique. I would love to go again for special occasions.

Yelp
It is certainly not worth spending such kind of price for the quality of food. They even don't know how to serve the wine. Very disappointed.
