"The ‘toi’ in the name of the restaurant is an acronym for ‘trip of imagination’. The destination is India, and the mission is to provide traditional Indian dishes. There are meat, fish and vegetable curries. They do things Thali teishoku-style and serve several kinds of curry of your choice on a large plate. You can also add individual items like pakora, an Indian-style tempura." - Michelin Inspector

We stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for a halal / vegetarian restaurant. The owner was a Japanese who was commited into making indian dishes, he even went to India before to learn to cook the dishes. Mutton was halal, so i opted for the menu and it was super super delicious. The chai tea was out of the world, please order it whenever you go there. Its a quaint and cozy little place, but we felt at home being there, we even got a free puri, which is also super tasty. An absolutely nice experience!

All I can say is This: The mutton curry is the best curry I've had in my life! Was beyond surprised and glad I came here! Made my Nara day trip unforgettable!!!

Such a hard review to write but I think that many of the reviewers haven’t had much other curries. Indian curry is my favourite food type. The staff is incredible. They are so kind especially the man working in the kitchen. The restaurant atmosphere is perfect and feels very authentic to a local shop. And it was clean, organized and cozy. Now I got the full spread of all the curries. With mango lassie. The presentation of the food was incredible and looked very professional. They clearly love what they do and it shows. This is important. Now food feedback: 1. The small yogurt bowl included in the spread had a horrible taste to it that made me think I was eating chemicals. 2. The mango lassie was full on yogurt. While still delicious once fully mixed, I think if someone doesn’t like yogurt as much then it would be hard for them. I’d recommend thinning it out a touch. 3. The curries were more soup than sauce. It’s important to be able to coat your Nan and such in the curry, but these curries were too thin and your only option is to just spoon them out of the bowls. I actually did resort to just drinking them. 4. The mutton had a great flavour but many small bones. Price for my meal was about ¥3700. Not a bad price for the amount of food and spices always cost more. So I think this price for “Indo” food in Japan is fair.

Perhaps the finest curry I’ve had for a long time. So delicious that I visibly gasped with my first mouthful of the chicken saag. “Can I have more please?” Small, cosy and full of locals. So good I feel like keeping this place a secret!

Unbelievable friendly staff and if a Japanese cook decides to perfect a foreign kitchen. They do :). Best Indian food I ever had! Come half an hour to 45 minutes before opening and put your name on the waiting list. For around 20 euro/ dollar you get the full meal !

Run by one of the most friendliest Japanese couple who went to Tamil Nadu in India, fell in love with the cuisine and decided to start their own restaurant back home. Some of the curries were pretty authentic and I was blown away at the taste. The decor actually has several phrases like be a friend, hello etc in Tamil. Infact they seemed to take Tamil more seriously than back in TamilNadu as it would be a mixture of Tamil and English for the names of the dishes.

Still shaking my head in disbelief! This was an authentic South Indian thali. We went with the full meal option that included the chicken, fish, mutton and vegetable options. The flavors and spice levels were spot on and not overwhelming. Chatted with the lovely Japanese couple running this place and learned a bit about their story of how they decided to have a restaurant with this cuisine out of all other options. Wish we could get authentic Indian food like this in Southern California.

Arrived at 11:20 on a Wednesday. Already 7 or 8 parties ahead of me. Waited about 40 minutes to be seated. Food came quickly after that. I wouldn't say this is authentic South Indian Thali, but I think it's a very inventive mashup of Japanese tastes and Indian flavors. Go for the 4 curry option so you can taste everything.
