Review: Ayam Goreng Toh Joyo 3 – Jl. Uripsomoharjo 133, Yogyakarta Ayam Goreng Toh Joyo 3 is a legendary fried chicken spot in Yogyakarta, established in 1983. Conveniently located on Jl. Uripsomoharjo 133, it’s easy to find thanks to its roadside location and spacious building. The setting is simple, with plenty of wooden tables and benches that can accommodate large groups—perfect for family meals or gatherings. One unique feature is the open kitchen placed at the front of the restaurant, allowing guests to see the cooking process without being bothered by smoke while eating. Specializing in kampung-style (free-range) fried chicken, this place is known for its fast service and friendly staff. Orders arrive at the table quickly, so there’s no long wait. The fried chicken is delightfully savory and salty, yet tender and juicy. The marinade is deeply infused, reaching all the way into the meat, creating a rich and authentic flavor. The dish is complemented by fresh raw vegetables (lalapan) and a sweet-and-spicy soy-based sambal that hits just the right level of heat. The rice portion is just right—not too much, not too little—and perfectly fluffy, pairing wonderfully with the tasty chicken. Conclusion: Ayam Goreng Toh Joyo 3 is a must-try for fried chicken lovers visiting Yogyakarta. With its rich flavor and homey atmosphere, it stands out as one of the best kampung-style fried chicken spots in town.

I had to try Ayam Goreng Tojoyo 3, a 'legend' among tourists, and it was a solid fried chicken experience. The chicken itself was good, but the real star was the terasi sambal – delicious! It's a great, budget-friendly option for tourists in Jogja, though I personally didn't see a huge distinction from other Indonesian fried chicken places. Still, a good meal overall.

Our go-to spot, where the flavors have remained consistent and satisfying over the years! One thing that catches your eye as you enter is the glass showcase near the ordering counter, adding to the charm of the place. My personal favorites are always the fried chicken and lung - consistently delicious and satisfying!

Food was good, especially the chicken. It's savoury and tender, yet had crisp skin. The "lalapan" was quite plenty for one person. Unfortunately, I couldn't try the other dishes, because the staff told that only chicken (breast part) was left, even it was still at 3pm, while after that, around 10mins later, other customers could ordered other dishes. The places were ordinary, nothing special. Overall, it was good for whom that want experience the food only.

Pro: good fried chicken, well seasoned. Priced okay, a bit "touristy priced" but okay. Con: crowded, que for seat or served. Spend almost an hour waiting order buying to go. Overall, liked it, but if time is limited, will have to skip on seeing heavy que..

A perfect tourist eatery spot to visit. Located right in the main road of Urip Sumoharjo so it’s easy to find. Stayed near this restaurant so it’s a nice moment to have breakfast here. As a fan of traditional fried chicken and sambal foods it tastes alright for me.

Authentic Javanese Fried Chicken at RM Tojoyo 3 – A Hidden Gem in Yogyakarta! During my trip to Yogyakarta, I stopped by RM Tojoyo 3 on Jl. Urip Sumohardjo for a late lunch, and I must say—it was a fantastic experience! This spot is known for its traditional Javanese-style fried chicken, and after trying it, I can confidently say it lives up to the hype. We ordered their signature fried chicken, along with tofu, tempeh, and fresh salad. The fried chicken was the real star of the meal—crispy on the outside, yet incredibly juicy and flavorful on the inside. The seasoning was spot on, with a perfect blend of spices that made every bite delicious. What really stood out was how moist and tender the meat was, proving that they’ve truly mastered the art of frying chicken. The side dishes complemented the meal perfectly. The tofu and tempeh were fried to a golden crisp, while the fresh salad added a refreshing contrast. Pairing everything with sambal (chili sauce) gave it that extra kick—spicy, tangy, and oh-so-addictive! As for the atmosphere, it’s a simple, no-frills local eatery with a traditional warung-style setup. The place is non-AC, so it can get a bit warm, and some people were smoking inside, which might not be ideal for everyone. However, the amazing food more than made up for it! I was so amazed by the taste that I completely forgot to take a lot of pictures—only realizing it when I was down to my last bite! That’s how you know the food was truly irresistible. If you’re looking for authentic, no-nonsense fried chicken in Yogyakarta, RM Tojoyo 3 is a must-visit. Highly recommend stopping by for a taste of their crispy, juicy, and flavorful ayam goreng!
