"“Tok Tok” is an onomatopoeia of the sound made by a chef when kneading noodle dough with a bamboo pole, a tradition still practised at the entrance of this shop. Cantonese wonton noodle soup is a must-try for its bouncy noodles and flavoursome shrimp filling. Blanched noodles tossed with dried shrimp roe, and Cantonese barbecue meats are also popular. Also try their Chinese pastry – both BBQ pork pie and pandan kaya dumplings are terrific." - Michelin Inspector

So, when does food cross from making things more delicious to becoming an unnecessary gimmick? Yes, I’m looking at you, candy floss on drinks! Well, Tok Tok mee is a traditional way of making mee extra springy and this shop on Campbell Street - Tok Tok Mee Bamboo Noodle - is the only place in Penang doing it this way. You can watch the noodle makers expertly kneading the dough using the long bamboo pole before passing it through a machine to knead it into a long flat shape to feed into the final cutting machine to create the mee So, does it make a difference? Well, I love mee and yes, definitely, the noodles here have the extra springy and bite. My family and I enjoyed the dry and soup versions and both are delicious. The star is definitely the noodles but the plump wantans were full of filling, the soup was sweet and flavoursome and the dry noodles were coated in delicious sauce. Wonderful meal

Inexpensive Michelin restaurant. Good quality food, flavour, and technique making the noodles also in the pastries. The egg tarts are flaky with creamy custard inside, and the custard corn bun is soft, sweet. Great spot for noodles and snacks that hit the spot. Very clean and casual dining restaurant with fast service.

First, the environment was lovely and clean. The bamboo noodles were handmade and displayed to us, which was a nice touch. Secondly, the food was delicious. We ordered three bowls of bamboo noodles and a variety of snacks, and every single one was delicious! Finally, the waiters were mostly friendly and helpful to my son. As tourists, this restaurant was a great addition to our Penang itinerary.

Regular visited place for their wanton mee but the noodles is not only stuff that worth the place in your stomach but many others too. This restaurant had earn their Michelin guide few years in a row with a reason . Stir fried Ee foo noodles is typically good and so does other type of noodles or small plate of food such as deep fried fish skin, deep fried chicken wing, char siu, roast pork and few others.Highly recommended although this place will have a lot of tourists especially over the weekend so please mind the timing of your visit during meal time to avoid the crowds.

The food sincerely is average. Noodle is made by machine which we don't have problem with it. Just that the noodle texture is not particularly al-dente. Soup base is good though. We have more problem with two things though: (1) The wonton - the meat is like meatball texture which should not be like this in tradition wonton. (2) One of the staff (who possibly is the boss or manager) is poker face all along as if we are beggars. We have seen enough poker face staff in Hong Kong but never really expecting one here in Penang (especially all other experiences here are so good). Fortunately we won't be here again...

The noodles I had were really delicious. In this picture, I ordered the signature large size for RM10.90. Highly recommended! The noodles are homemade and taste amazing. The shop’s environment is also clean and comfortable.

Nice, we were early, so not crowded as yet. It got crowded a short while later. Food was pretty good especially the pastries. A bit of wait for the noodles. Overall wise, I like it.

Old school wanton mee very normal but has achieved Michelin standards. Applauds for the roast pork which we ordered a second helping. Roast duck did not disappoint. Char siew sou pastries and egg tart was good. Had the Hor Ga Sai drink (Tiger bites Lion) which is dark coffee with added Milo making it thick, creamy and sweet.
