The 38 Best Restaurants in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland, New Zealand) | Eater

"If you want to experience the charming hospitality of chef-owner Jason Kim at Tokki, be sure to secure a seat at the chef’s counter. Diners can observe him plating dishes, but he’ll also pour your beer and torch the marshmallow meringue on your melona s’more, a playful riff on the popular Korean popsicle brand. All the cooking happens in a tiny kitchen, where freezer tops act as counter space, and a small charcoal grill gives the bo ssam a smoky hit. The best way to eat here is on the house menu, a prix fixe for an incredible value including savory egg custard with anchovy broth, raw fish with Korean mustard, and chewy flat noodles dressed with chile pork and gochujang. — Leisha Jones" - Hillary Eaton

Honestly the best restaurant I’ve been to in a while!! The servers were so kind and accommodating. The drinks were FANTASTIC, super cute and creative too!! definitely indicative of an artist in love with their craft. The food was also amazing as well as the fact that I’m pretty sure they handmade their noodles. On top of everything else, the ambience is sooo calming and has such a nice modern twist with a very charming factor to it. Honestly couldn’t have asked for a better dinner experience, it was just so amazing that I had to put in my review. Definitely a hidden gem of the area!!!

A Hidden Gem for Food & Cocktail Lovers If you're looking for an unforgettable dining and drinking experience, this restaurant and cocktail bar is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you step in, the ambiance strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated lounge and hip vibe, making it ideal for a romantic dinner, a night out with friends, or a solo indulgence at the bar. The cocktail menu is nothing short of impressive. Every drink is crafted with precision, showcasing innovative Asian flavors, fresh ingredients, and top-tier spirits. Whether you're a fan of classics or adventurous signature creations, the bartenders here are true artists. Just ask them for something special for you and they will make it. Beyond the drinks, the food is equally remarkable. Each dish is beautifully presented, with Korean fusion flavors that complement the cocktails seamlessly. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate about their craft, ready to recommend pairings or mix up something custom based on your preferences. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance—lively but not too loud, stylish but not pretentious. Great live music and karaoke on Tuesdays and Sundays. Whether you're stopping by for a perfectly balanced cocktail or indulging in a full dining experience, this place delivers on all fronts. It's the kind of spot you’ll find yourself coming back to, eager to try something new each time. Highly recommend!! Sorry guys no food pics .. ate them too quickly. Delish!!!

Google
The phrase “Hidden Gem” describes this wonderfully charming foodie haven. The oversized Korean “Tapas” were delightful and delicious. But the poke was out of this world! Wonderful food and drinks paired with the karaoke in the background was a nice touch. But enough about the food and ambiance, let’s talk about the service! This is what took this place to the next level. The attentiveness and hospitality truly shines here. There is a reason this place has such a fantastic rating. Yes the food, drinks, and vibe are amazing, but where they truly shine is the service. Our hospitality expert, Joo-Wan (I hope I didn’t butcher the spelling) made this a one of a kind experience that I will be seeking out again and again. Thank you for a wonderful evening and the Soju shots!

UPDATE #2 - CHANGING TO 5 STARS: Ok, now I am super impressed; by so many things with this establishment; one being they responded to my review within hours👏🏻🤙 And other things reflected below... UPDATE: So changing to 4 star bc our waiter is freaking great, and atmosphere is killer; chill, cozy and classy...kind of like a speakeasy. And karaoke vibe is also classy, and not all screamo 😱 or death metal, haha And SUPER comfy seating☁️☁️ * But the following is still true....... The most basic service that a restaurant / bar could provide is to help your customers find your establishment... we drove around a long time looking and almost gave up, but finally, we called Tokki and they helped. And as I was taking photos of the place to post, intending to function as bread crumbs of sorts, to help others find it, another group walks up, reuniting with a friend who was waiting for them, the person saying, so sorry, we were driving around forever trying to find it! Yep, us too🙃🫠 Idk, maybe you guys pride yourself on being hard to find (maybe like a speakeasy? as reference above) but not everyone is going to join in your enthusiasm. 🤷‍♂️ We were seconds away from giving up, and I wonder how many other people have left for the same reason. My photos will definitely help, but yeah, you might want to try and get creative with orher ways to help your customers, bc you guys got a really good thing going💥👊

This place is hard to find but it almost feels like a speakeasy in the midst of office buildings. It’s a super cool ambiance, very dark inside but also turns into a karaoke bar on certain nights which is super cool. We ended coming here after a long day on Pikes Peak. The server was super nice and helpful. He gave us some good recommendations and we went with it. The tsunami tofu was absolutely delightful. The miso ramen was alright, I loved the variety of toppings in the ramen like gobo and menma which was very unique. It’s not something that I feel like I could keep eating but was delicious for the portion that I ate. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in the area!!

Google
We had the Octopus balls, Korean fried chicken, dumplings, Korean Tacos, and Ramen. Food was not the highlight but the atmosphere and live band was captivating. Would have preferred a more Korean culinary experience but this will have to do.

You have to check this place out! The food is an unforgettable mix of unique flavors and delicious creations, paired perfectly with top-notch cocktails. The atmosphere is great—live music set the vibe while we were there, making the experience even more special. And the staff? Absolutely amazing! They even surprised us with free Soju samples, adding an extra touch of hospitality. Trust me, this spot is a must-visit!

Yelp
When we 1st walked in we were surprised at the playing music (this was a Saturday eve). I should have paid closer attention to descriptions of place not just food, but it worked out super well. Think bar with seating around a small stage and live music, which was very good. It was loud but added to the atmosphere and they played New Orleans styled jazzy music. The food was delicious: takoyaki (the octopus rice balls), mashi-mandu (fried ), bulgogi lettuce wrap (we ended up getting 3, for for an adult's dinner and 2 to share between 5 people), & seared tuna tataki. The Bloody Mary super yummy even though on the mild+, almost medium spice level. Service is good too. Unique spot with yummy food definitely worth stopping by.

Yelp
We went for happy hour and ordered one of everything and a drink off the happy hour menu. This included takoyaki, mandus, egg rolls, and crab rangoon. All the appetizers were so bad in my opinion. Even paying the discounted price I was very disappointed. Frozen from costco was better than some of these appetizers. The beer was solid. Some kind of local beer. For entrees we got the ramen, bulgogi tacos, bulgogi lettuce wraps, and some kind of fish and chip asian fusion dish. I thought everything was pretty solid, ESPECIALLY the fish and chips. The fish was so crispy and the sauce was flavorful. Fries that came with that were phenomenal. Ramen was just okay and the bulgogi lettuce wrap I enjoyed. It's a good amount of meat and the pork is actually spicy. The tacos were not my favorite, weird rendition and too greasy. The tacos are also huge... more like burritos but I'm not complaining. They had live music at 6 which we tried to eat super duper slow so that we could enjoy it. Wish they posted about the music online so we could have planned better. Our waitress was the cutest girl with impeccable fashion sense. She was super friendly and helpful 10/10. The vibe is like a jazz bar, it's pretty cute. Would come back for vibe and the fish and chips I'm still thinking about.

Yelp
Wonderful find in COS. Great servers (thank you, Jessica!!) Excellent ambience (karaoke most evenings?!?) Food-- best ramen in COS by far

Yelp
Really nice hidden Korean bar with live music and good prices. They had a Star Wars theme which I enjoyed including this drink that came with a light saber and looked like Yoda. Their bulgogi lettuce wraps were amazing and I really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere.

Yelp
Seriously, what a gem of a place! My husband and I were looking for a date night location near our resort. We came upon this place expecting good food and hoping for decent drinks. We got so much more! The food was superb. We recommend the general tsao's chicken! Sooo good! The drinks were perfect! I got the spicy mezcal marg and a lemon drop. My husband got an old fashion. The Sunday night karaoke was everything!!! We were hesitant about sitting through dinner while listening to karaoke, but we had no right to question it! It was such a vibe and so much fun! People of all ages sang all types of genres. What makes this place truly unique and worthy of 5 stars is the service. We didn't catch his name, but our weighter was on point. He had a special talent of making everyone feel included, being fun, yet not too much. We had a wonderful date night! Thank y'all so much!!!

Yelp
Amazing quality food and cocktails! The meat is *chef's kiss*, and the ramen some of the best we've had in Colorado Springs. Service is on point too!

Yelp
Tucked away down a sidewalk, I'd call this place a hidden gem. I was STARVING and decided upon a bento bowl with general chicken, kimchi, potstickers, a crab rangoon and daikon radish. YUM! The daikon radish was a lil sweet and crunchy, just how I like it! The chicken was lightly breaded, friend and smothered in a savory sauce. The waitress was especially sweet and gave me a little taste of mango apple shochu liquor which was super tasty. I'd have had a glass if I weren't expected back at work. I will definitely return if I'm the area again! At any rate,

Colby P.

Yelp
Food was fantastic, loved the space, and our server Ariel was fantastic. Highly recommend the ramen.

Prad P.

Yelp
The themed cocktails were superior and the tapas were really tasty We particularly liked the crab Rangoon The server forgot about us at the end and that was annoying

Yelp
Love this place! Food and service is always top notch. Cozy atmosphere inside, and love the patio in spring/summer!

Yelp
The spicy tonkatsu ramen was solid, the servers very friendly and the karaoke was a fun added bonus I wasn't expecting

Yelp
Wanted to try this place out for my husband's birthday. The reviews looked good and I liked the fact they had live music on a Friday. I emailed them and asked if I could make a reservation and maybe do something special for the birthday. They responded so quickly, and made sure we had a great time. The service and staff was amazing all around. The menu is largely more tapas style with poke bowls, Asian inspired tacos, and ramen. We ordered the Mandu and Crab Rangoon which were simple but delicious. For the main we ordered the Poke Bowl, and Ramen which were also very good. My Korean momma would approve. The band was good and even gave the hubs a birthday serenade. If you want a special evening definitely give this place a try, make sure to make a reservation as it does fill up pretty early we went at 6:00pm and it was already pretty busy.
google avatar

Laila S.

Yelp
The interior kind of throws you off. It has a bar lounge vibe and at first look you wouldn't think the food is good. But, the ramen was delicious!! We're from Hawaii and we eat a lot of ramen and we were impressed!! My parents loved the crab Rangoon as well. Friendly customer service and good prices. Also a great selection of whiskey says my husband. He had 2 pours of Weller 12.

Yelp
We were visiting Colorado from out of town and actively looking for a cool place to have dinner. Tokki did not disappoint. The place was packed, but somehow we lucked out with a table for four. We came at the perfect time and got to listen to sweet jazz music while we noshed on delicious food. The drinks were super fun as well. Service was incredibly slow and by the time my husband got his food, everyone else was done. Other than that, this was an excellent experience.
google avatar

Terra R.

Yelp
Ahmmmazing! Love coming here for all the fun cocktails and food is fantastic! We have been several times, and the service has been spot On as well as we have tried so many things and never had a bad dish!
google avatar

Yelp
Great vibe. Great staff. Fun cocktails. Tasty food. Live music. Awesome. (Tricky to find. Others have posted photos of the entrance. Definitely need to follow those.)
google avatar

Jay F.

Yelp
Tokki is hands-down one of my favorite spots. The owner is usually around and always so friendly and welcoming, just like the rest of the staff. Their seasonal drinks are always on point, and the food is incredibly fresh and flavorful. It's the only place I trust for raw tuna--consistently delicious every time!
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
Fun happy hour find. Really good food all around and fun cocktails. Well executed and good value. It is tucked back a little from the parking lot, so park up front and walk up the middle.

Orlando A.

Yelp
100% recommend this place! From the food to the service to the ambiance, everything was on point. This is one of those places I want to gate keep but they 100% deserve the notoriety. If you're in the area you must try this place. Recommend calling in advance

Michael P.

Yelp
Absolutely great place - hard to find (it's behind the Marigold restaurant), but worth finding. Must get the spicy ramen it's so good. Nice service, clean place but dark - might be a karaoke place at night l, not sure it's my first time and I came for lunchI'd definitely come back.
google avatar

Kendra G.

Yelp
My husband and I made a reservation and we ended up coming a little earlier and they accommodated us very well. Our server was attentive and we enjoyed that they did not rush us -- we got the spicy edamame as an appetizer which was great and they let us finish that before bringing out our entrees of ramen. Ramen was GREAT and just what we needed on a snowy day. Ambiance amazing and cute little bunny rabbits and neons everywhere.

Yelp
I came to Tokki last month to celebrate my 20 year Anniversary and it looks like I scored the perfect spot. I was eager to try something new and inspired by all the awesome photos I saw online. My husband and I arrived at 5 PM because we wanted an early start to our evening dinner but also because we thought it was going to fill up fast which it did. Our server was very friendly and attentive to our needs and often came to check on our table. She made sure to put our orders in right away as soon as we let her know we were ready to taste another round of Tapas. I had too many amazing things from the menu that I can't even remember what I got. The main thing that stood out for me though was their amazing beef gyoza. It was the best I've ever had and very addicting! I also had a drink that looked like baby Yoda, I forgot what it was called but it was super tasty! Sweet but not too sweet and I thank my waitress for steering me in the right direction. I was about to order the pina colada and she said that was going to awfully sweet for me so I took her advice. I absolutely loved the ambience here, it was romantic and very little lighting and their was a musician on the stage that set the perfect mood for the evening. I'm definitely coming back again when I'm back in town. This place is perfect to hang with a small crowd or for a date night. I love it! Thanks TOKKI for making my night very special!
google avatar

Yelp
Just not what expect hole in the wall, with live jazz music while eating a fusion food between Korean and all other types of cuisines. We really really enjoyed the service, the food, and the environment. Great place for a date. I'll return next time I'm back in Colorado Springs.
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
Tokki is a great local spot to grab a drink, chill, and get fabulous service! They have everything from live music, karaoke, and good times depending on the night. You can find some Asian fusion eats and well made cocktails. My fave bites are the poke bowl and lettuce wraps. Can't go wrong with a rabbit in the hole cocktail!

Charlotte R.

Yelp
Live music can be loud but if you don't want the music you can sit outside. Moody lighting and the whole place has an aesthetic. Cocktails/mocktails look absolutely insane. Portion sizes are pretty big! Got the gyoza which was some of the best I've ever had and the porkgogi fries, my friend got the bulgogi. All was absolutely devoured but can definitely be split between two people. Waitstaff was so kind, music was great.

Knight V.

Yelp
So good! Food and vibe were absolutely excellent, and the employees were nothing short of amazing. Would recommend if you're looking for Korean food.
google avatar

Schley C.

Yelp
We go to Tokki almost every week. The bulgogi lettuce wraps are a must, but the Ramen and Poke' are also wonderful. Matter of fact, just thinking about it is making me hingry! The folks are great, and they have live music a couple of nights a week. It's a classy & fun vibe.

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
I always have a great experience there. It has a great vibe and service is fantastic. I highly recommend it.
google avatar

Monica T.

Yelp
A hidden gem in Colorado Springs! Tokki has a downtown vibe without the downtown parking. My husband and I went there for a date night. They have an extensive drink menu as well as ramen and Asian-inspired tapas. All the food was elevated and delicious! Our favorite was the shrimp tempura. Highly recommend! Service was very friendly (waitresses wear bunny ears - Tokki means hare in Japanese). The coolest part was the live music and intimate atmosphere. The music wasn't too loud and would be great for a group of friends or date night. Highly recommend!

Kim M.

Yelp
Great menu , Great Jamie , she is an amazing lady with good vibes . Great food ..give it a try . Karoake too
google avatar

ANDREA F.

Yelp
Outstanding experience. We had 3 of the tapas and they were all excellent. We had 2 drinks and both were SO GOOD. Order the white rabbit--I got a little ceramic white rabbit to KEEP OMG. Service was excellent. I love love love this place. Maps take you to the parking lot. The restaurant is down the lane (on the left facing the stores) next to the pizza place. Dress up a little and maybe make reservations unless you can get there right at 5 or so and stay less than an hour.
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
Loooooove this place!! The food is amazing here. The cocktails are funky and delicious. This place is a must check out. They have a decent amount of dishes that can be shared (tapas). One of my favorite is the kimchi (best kimchi I've EVER had). They have vegetarian options which I appreciate a lot. The only thing is I wish they had a noodle dish. Go support this new amazing place that offers good food and chill ambiance. (If we are honest, Colorado Springs doesn't have the best food, this place is a gem)

Jesus G.

Yelp
A little difficult to find although that's no reason to not go. I've added pictures to help guide you where to go. The bulgogi fries are a must. Like no joke you have to. Having the hot ramen after going on the cold Cheyenne Mountain trails was the best. We also had the tonkatsu ramen one spicy and one regular. Spicy is just enough so that it's not unbearable. And it's really cool to listen to the karaoke from the other customers! Overall awesome place.
google avatar

Vanessa R.

Yelp
The band was fantastic. Food was good, service was excellent. I would have given them a 5 but the only thing that prevented that was I use to be a restaurant owner and you should not take your dogs into the kitchen which we saw and never have them up at the tables that you expect your customers to eat off of. And no I'm not a dog hater I had my pouch for 19 years and it killed me when he passed. But this is a restaurant where you serve the public not your home. Please be more aware of your customers some have allergies and don't want to see your pets in a public eatery. Other than that we had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves and would suggest it to our many friends and associates at the hospital.
google avatar

Jackie A.

Yelp
Tokki is kinda hidden in an obscure shopping center. The ambience was fun and it's a really cool place for drinks and music. We came too early for music, but saw the band setting up. We didn't make reservations, and had to sit at the bar. It's a small restaurant/bar so I highly recommend making reservations. Their drink selection seemed unique if that's your thing. It's not for us, so we came for the food and unfortunately it was utterly disappointing. The lettuce wraps were pretty good. We devoured the whole plate between the two of us. It came with a side of corn, which was different. It wasn't fresh corn, and honestly tasted canned. We could overlook the corn because the flavor in the beef was excellent. IMO, cabbage would be a more appropriate side for a Korean beef dish. We also got a fried chicken dish (that I no longer see on their menu). Idk what happened...their fry oil wasn't hot enough, or it's always this greasy, but you could, not exaggerating, squeeze out tablespoons of oil from each piece. We tried one bite and then didn't touch the rest of it.

Karina M.

Yelp
Love this place, they have the best Ramen, Service is great, Peter is a very kind and fun person.

Yelp
my beloved Tong Tong was closed (on vacation, good for them) but I needed to satisfy my Korean tastebud. Yelp led me to Tokki. the interior design is gorgeous. the inside reminded me of Jessica Rabbit. live music. I sat outside and enjoyed my lychee cocktail, quite refreshing and had me sipping every drop til the end. The bulgogi was seasoned to perfection. I was happy to chew all the piece since it was so lean and clean. As far as the presentation it was ok, but flavors is whats important here. beware of the small amount of wasabi (i think) that they add. tiniest spec will have your nose fuming. To give Tokki more credit, this is a cocktail bar so the tapas are actually pretty elevated. service was immaculate.
google avatar

Lori G.

Yelp
Nice comfortable atmosphere but bring a sweater. Really tasty food, we loved most everything we ordered. Server/ bartender was very helpful with recommendations on what to try and she was spot on!! Try the Bulgogi wrap! The Mandu (potstickers) were really good, could have made a meal out of them! Heads up; General Choe's Chicken was far to spicy for "ME". Looking forward to our return visit!
google avatar

Michaela D.

Yelp
So we had trouble finding this place, but once we did we were so glad we chose it! We happened to go on a night where there was live music. It was a bit loud since we were seated close and were trying to catch up as friends apart for months, but it otherwise added to the ambiance appropriately. Each of the three of us enjoyed our unique and showy cocktails. It was hard to choose amongst their many creative options. As we started with our appetizers, we were incredibly impressed. The crab rangoon and mandu dishes were full of flavor and perfectly cooked. We were so ready for our entrees at this point but unfortunately, we weren't as excited about them once they arrived. My bulgogi lettuce wraps felt lacking in flavor for what I had imagined and had in the past from other places. The lettuce pieces weren't ideal for wraps in their size or crispness, and the tomatoes on the side seemed a bit odd. Both of my friends ordered the tuna tataki and weren't as blown away as they'd expected to be either. If I were to go back, I'd stick to drinks and fill up on the two tapas plates I mentioned because they were that good. (Disclaimer: I don't live here, or else I would be back at some point without question). Our server was super friendly and attentive, which is what made me change my original 4-star rating to 5.
google avatar

Gene B.

Yelp
Just had lunch at Olive Garden at Chapel Hills ,our server was Austin. He was fabulous! We are a group of very particular individuals and he was patient with us all. The food was good. Would love to have him as a server again sometime.

Yelp
Wow! Best service at any restaurant in years! The owner met us at the door with a smile. He was hustling around helping the entire staff and checking in on tables making sure that everyone was happy. Our server Jessica was perfectly attentive, very friendly and helpful. They have live music 4 nights per week. The smooth jazz instrumentals last night were fantastic. It added so much to the super cool vibe this place offers. Awesome specialty cocktails! The house wine was actually really good. Great beer selection. There were so many tasty and fun menu selections that it took us quite awhile to decide whether to get the ramen or some tapas. We decided to go with the ramen and holy wow; best ramen either of us had ever had. Jessica was upfront and honest that the ramen is made to order and takes a little time to make. No problem, we started with some edamame and it was all delicious. We will absolutely return to this place and work our way through their amazing menu. Sorry no ramen picture. I was too excited to eat it and forgot.

Yelp
The service here is incredible. We came in with our two daughters and we had the best experience ever. So many of the servers and hostesses were so kind to our kids, I can't say thank you enough! The food and cocktails were good. We loved the vibe of the bar. Live music was starting as we left (right around 6:30 on a Wednesday) and that looked fun too. I definitely recommend checking it out for drinks and a fun vibe!
google avatar

Schley C.

Yelp
We had the Spicy Pork & Beef Bulgogi lettuce wraps, General Chou chicken, and my wife loved her Grogu drink. Vibe was fun, service was outstanding, and the people are really great! I'll be back soon to try the Ramen, which looked amazing.

Mar T.

Yelp
Great place with insanely good food. I had the Korean tacos, and they were delicious. The live music brings a fun atmosphere, and the Grogu drink is creative beyond belief. The service is also very good, and you can tell their staff is highly trained.

Yelp
What a wonderful birthday dinner!! We should have gotten reservations, but luckily we arrived early enough (5:30 pm) that there were still some walk-in tables available. The location is a little off the beaten path, being behind some of the other businesses in this little shopping center, but we'll worth the effort to find it (hint: go down the sidewalk away from the parking lot and between Walter's Bisto and Duca's Pizza.) This is a fairly small bar/restaurant although the outdoor seating probably is quite nice when the weather is accommodating. We were welcomed warmly and given a high-top table in the back (away from the small stage where a jazz trio was setting up). The waiter was quite friendly and very helpful. I ordered a special drink (bartender's choice) with the hint that I prefer sweet drinks. I received a delicious fruity concoction that I greatly enjoyed. We then ordered mandu (Korean dumplings) and a different type of house-made ramen for each of us. I had the Mandu miso ramen, my husband had the tofu ramen and my son had the beef bulgogi ramen. All three were in red - the beef was especially tasty. When the server learned it was my birthday, he brought me a complimentary sweet shot topped with whipped cream and a plastic duck The jazz trio was very good and the whole place was packed to capacity by the time we left. Can't wait to return and try their lunch menu: special bowls and bentos!

Yelp
A very swanky spot for date night or dinner with friends. Came here on a Friday evening around 8:30 with my husband. We made a reservation to be safe but honestly would have been fine without one too. The place was a bit hard to find via GPS but we eventually found the entrance ( you have to walk past the pizza spot). Got the mezcal margarita, General Choe 's Chicken, tokki spicy ramen and the vegan miso ramen. Everything was great but the chicken was especially delicious. The portions were also generous. I'm so happy we stumbled upon this new spot!!

Colleen Irish K.

Yelp
My favorite place to go hear jazz while having good food and service in town. It is hidden away behind the Hatch and Ducca's Pizza south where hre is plenty of parking. Lovely fun venue with seating at tables and the bar. Helps to call for reservations. Great appetizer foods and ramen bowls. Pretty drinks well worth the cost...and as Tokki means Rabbit in Korean - some have little white rabbit statue "gifts" in/on them. The owner is fabulous and friendly, as well as the staff. Definitely worth many visits.

Juan P.

Yelp
Excellent service and delicious food. We loved the ramen and edamame, the drinks were excellent.
