Came here at a friend’s recommendation while on break in Oahu. We came on the same day and was able to get a reservation for 10 people. The place is pretty spacious and the kitchen looked huge. Service was great and though we were the first party to arrive, it filled up fairly quickly. The menu is extensive and the food authentic - we had onigiri (well grilled and large), various yakitori, seafood risotto (recommended), hamachi collar (alright), salad and appetizers. Parking is easy with various options around. 3 floor of a building.

Authentic Japanese food! The sashimi was incredibly fresh, with the tuna being a standout—sweet, creamy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The mixed green salad with tofu is a great option for anyone looking to add some fresh veggies to their meal. The beef and pork skewers were perfectly cooked—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The squid pancake was also a highlight, especially when paired with soy sauce, which really brought out the natural sweetness of the squid. And to top it all off, the black sesame ice cream was amazing—rich, creamy, and the perfect way to end the meal! Another huge plus—parking is extremely hard to find in the Waikiki neighborhood, but this restaurant makes it so easy with a covered parking lot and an elevator for convenience. Definitely a must-visit for anyone craving high-quality Japanese food. Can’t wait to come back!

Had dinner here. The restaurant wasn't all that busy when we came in, and it's possible to make a reservation. Menu is online through QR code, which unfortunately doesn't have pictures or much descriptions about the food or allergen information. The food quality and quantity was sub par and not worth the high price for them, especially the $21 poke, which only came with 3 pieces. The soft shell crab was rather pitiful with only a salad to really leverage the lack of meat you get. Jaga Batta was also just expensive for the simplicity of the dish of just being a $9 Idaho potato pan fried in butter. Moreover, the udon only had Tempura and tofu with not much vegetables to leverage the overall starchyness of the dish overall. Service was rather slow, we had to prompt the waitress to come and take our order for what felt like over 10 minutes. The kitchen had also forgotten our order of yakiudon, which came last when we just didn't feel the need to eat anymore. Moreover, the waitress didn't even come back to our table in regards to change and getting our receipt,so it is best not to pay in cash. Overall, I wouldn't come here again for the subpar service and food quality that just wasn't tasty enough to leverage everything else wrong with the restaurant. I may not be a local, but I wouldn't recommend locals to dine here either

Beer was cold, sushi was fresh with well seasoned rice, edamame was cheap. What more can you ask for? Not a luxury experience but exactly what I wanted.

Google
Fun and bountiful izakaya, great menu written with humor. Good service though they can get busy, but just remember that it's izakaya and not fine dining, and you're golden. Generous sake pours too.

Google
Very extensive menu. Unfortunately the food wasn’t that great. We ordered 5 different items to share between two people and two alcoholic beverages. Would not recommend the poke which was bland and had too many vegetables mixed in. I enjoyed the tuna chip appetizer though. My partner enjoyed the chicken yakitori and the butter buta (pork). The butterfish was okay. The drinks were good.

Google
Aloha all; this is probably my favorite Japanese restaurant in hawaii with real authentic style Japanese dishes offered from sushi to the beef tongue on skewers. You will love the japan feel and great service as well. The staff is so helpful and sweet. Try it out and let me know how you enjoy it.

Yelp
This is definitely an amazing place to go to if you prefer to take your time when eating out. We made a reservation and went when it was packed on a weekend night, so I understand why the servers were extremely busy. I love hanging out and talking story so it was my kind of vibe. The food here is AMAZING. I came with a huge group so there were a lot of pupus of various things on the menu and I enjoyed all of them. I don't recall the dishes name but there was one with fried salmon skin and it was so delicious. I got to try the seafood risotto and it had a very sweet taste but I thought that the sweetness added to the flavor. I think it might have been unagi sauce that gave it the sweetness, but I'm not entirely sure. I also ordered hamachi kama, which is one of my favorites. It was delicious and they gave me radish on the side which I was so grateful for. A friend familiar with hamachi kama taught me to mix the radish with ponzu. Doing this makes the hamachi kama taste amazing, so I highly recommend it. I also tried the garlic spicy tuna roll and it tasted amazing. They add a generous amount of garlic chips on the top which made it crunchy. Overall I had a wonderful experience and would love to come here more in the future!

Yelp
Bottom line: food poisoning from raw fish. Service is very slow and some servers not well trained. Perhaps to cut costs Tokkuri-Tei has cut back on the number of employees and prep time start (they come in later to prep for opening at 5:30)? But the worst part is how bad the food is now. We used to often go to Tukkuri Tei YEARS AGO when it was a cute small kitschie hole in the wall near soccer locker. Ever since they moved food hasn't been the same but good enough for an occasional dinner at the "new" location (where it is now). HOWEVER we will not be returning after our last visit on 6/19/24. Prices went up (which is totally understandable with our crazy economy) but the quality has gone down significantly. The California roll was super sloppy and did not have cucumber. It was just a soggy mayo mess. The ahi tartar is now mostly filler (fried tempura batter pieces) mixed with rubbish old raw ahi. Thankfully that old fish didn't make us sick... however the old fish in my husband's teishoku did. Our daughter was the only one that ate that raw fish (salmon) and got food poisoning that left her tummy in a bad state for a few days. We called the restaurant and they did apologize but that is the extent of it. An apology. Again I understand that prices need to go up. But when restaurants start cutting back as well (keeping food too long and cutting back on staffing/training/prep time for opening service) it is just not worth it for customers. Especially when food poisoning is involved. If you decide to go to Tokkuri tei be very careful about what you order! Also be aware that service may take forever!

Yelp
Sad to see how much this place has fallen since years after our first visit. We had such a good time a year or so ago on our visit here- and it used to be such a solid popular sushi spot. Now- the quality has gone down so much. I'm pretty sure they are just using old fish. If you look at the photos of my nigiri- the scallop/ hotate just doesn't look right. It seems like they tried to sear it or something to mask the old fish, but it was just bad. Amaebi had no sweet flavor, and the salmon was inedible and we had to send it back. Roll was ok but a slightly fishy taste from the spicy tuna. The only thing decent here was the chicken karage and the kushi yakis - but some of them were too over seasoned/ salty. I'm sad how much this place's quality has gone down. The service was good but probably won't be returning.

Yelp
Quintessential "hole in the wall" feel - with the best Sushi and Izakaya you will find on O`ahu! Tradition meets creative twists on sushi bar favorites - backed up by a Fantastic Sake Menu! Ample servings for izakaya - bring your friends, you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
One of the best dinner I've had since I been here. Fresh fish. Tasty green salad. Intense flavor of oyster shots. Expensive sushi comparing to sushi in mainland. But the quality of fresh fish is unbeatable. 3 stars because it took a very long time for our food to come out. We had our salad. Waited an additional 30 minutes for Toku Joe. Then additional 15 minutes for our oyster shots. We decided to order an extra order of uni. But ended up canceling after 30 minutes of waiting. The uni was ready. The server forgotten to bring it out. Only remember because we asked for it. We left the restaurant feeling more hungrier than we got there because there was a long wait between the dishes. My advice is to order everything at once. And if you wait too long, chase down a server to remind them of your food.

Yelp
Japanese restaurant located on the second floor right on Kapahulu Avenue. There is paid parking right downstairs if you can find a stall. There are other businesses in this area that share the parking lot. Luckily, there is street parking as well. Just be careful because this area is busy with cars. Eat here on a Wednesday with a party of 6. We made reservations and thankfully we did. Restaurant was busy. The 3 servers that were working this night were all very friendly and helpful and they were working very hard! Ordered a variety of dishes some to share and a few teishoku (meal sets) as well. Food came out on staggered rounds which was okay since we were sharing the dishes. Fair is fair come try this place out and take a look at their extensive menu. Sushi, sashimi, soba, set dishes all authentically prepared.

Yelp
Tokuri-Tei from it's humble beginnings as a food truck to dine in restaurant. When they began Kazu (Sushi Chef) and Santa (Chef de Cuisine) were partners that built their business from the ground up. A Sushi Bar Izakaya (like a Tapa or a Pupu size dishes). The food is fresh and delicious. Service is friendly, fast, and efficient. The menu is quite extensive and will satisfy any need and whim. Whether you're sitting in the dining room or at the Sushi bar you can rest assured you'll be eating some of the best foods on the island. The Risotto's are contest winners (Rice Competition Waikiki. Santa entered 3 times and won First place all 3 times, after his 3rd win the organizers made him a judge instead of letting him compete). All 3 of those Risotto's are still on the menu. Reservations are recommended but not required. Kazu and his highly trained staff will not disappoint.

Yelp
Continuing on my search for the best nabeyaki udon, I stumbled upon Tokkuri-Tei. One look at the Yelp reviews told me that they are not known for that. Seems that sushi and izakaya are their sweet spot. I figured if I had room for sushi after eating my nabeyaki then I'd order a roll, but sadly that didn't happen because I was too full! They're located in the Hee Hing Plaza on the 2nd floor next to Tonkatsu Tamafuji. Parking is underground - just pay $3 to the parking lot attendant, or you can find metered parking on the street if you're lucky. I arrived when they opened at 5pm and was surprised how large the interior was. There are lots of 2 and 4 tops, plus longer tables for large parties and even a sushi bar! Tables are close together and you can hear full on conversations. I didn't have reservations but I also didn't need it. By the time I left, the restaurant was only 1/4 full on a Tuesday night. Service was friendly and attentive. Their menu is 8 pages long and includes just about every Japanese dish under the sun. I ordered the nabeyaki udon for $15 and a draft beer for $5. Finally, a nabeyaki udon at a reasonable price of $15 instead of $20! You know what they say though... be careful what you wish for. The nabeyaki was just average overall. With other nabeyaki that I've had, there are so many goodies that you can't even see the noods. This was the opposite- plenty of noods and little goodies inside the hot pot - just a few small pieces of chicken, mushroom, a little cabbage, egg and 1 shrimp tempura. The broth was thin and lacked flavor. The udon appeared to be the packaged kind. So perhaps that's why they price the nabeyaki at $15? Despite the average nabeyaki, I would definitely return to try their sushi and izakaya and hopefully increase the rating.

Yelp
This was an accidental find. We were actually a walk-in to dine next door at the tonkatsu spot but after over an hour wait and some research into this sushi spot that appeared more and more enticing from the pictures as we grew more and more hungry, the ambiance and the pictures of the salmon skin/silken tofu salad and hamachi truffle sashimi. Let me just tell you when I say we were so incredibly pleased with our experienced. The service is attentive and kind by every staff member there, and the ambiance is reminiscent of the traditional Japanese sushi restaurant. Do yourself a favor and visit Tokkuri-Tei. Order the eggplant miso, the miso seaweed soup, the moriawase, the miso butterfish roll, and absolutely positively the salmon skin salad and the hamachi truffle sashimi. I'll be dreaming about this place until we visit again. Oh and the iced oolong tea was delicious too. One thing I noticed is that the nigiri did not have a speck of wasabi under the fish like a traditional sushi spot would. The oolong tea also did not have free refills. Regardless, we were still happy with our experience and would definitely recommend you all to visit. PARKING: Covered parking lot, $3 for the day

Yelp
Best dinner of my week long vacation! My friends are locals here and wanted to take us to one of their favorite spots for dinner...Here we were, at Tokkuri-Tei! They ordered their favorites for our table to share and I can't even remember the names of each dish, but everything was spectacular! My favorite was a fried tofu dish with mushrooms and a sauce that was to die for! Great atmosphere and local vibe; I'll definitely come here again on my next visit!

Yelp
It's upstairs in a small plaza. I'm not sure if there's an elevator, so access might be a little difficult. Call first. Also, they take reservations. It's sort of the same level as Chibaken as far as quality , although the space is much larger and parking is better.

Yelp
For all the sushi places I've tried so far, this is my least favorite. Simple mediocre sushi rolls without much flavor and sophistication. We ordered one of our rolls without tempura since my husband is gluten free and we didn't realize that another roll we ordered had tempura as it did not indicate that tempura was in the roll, but our server failed to inform us that the baked Alaskan roll also came with tempura. It would've been nice for our server to give us a heads up and be proactive in ensuring that we didn't end up with any tempura in our rolls. Their gluten free menu is also not user friendly. It lists a lot of vegan rolls as well as gluten products in a roll but vegan doesn't always=gf, so it was really difficult to follow. U literally had to go through the entire menu to weed out a few gf rolls. Strange... Service was not great and our rolls were disappointing so won't be coming back here when I visit again!

Yelp
Highly recommend this spot for Izakaya! Original five reminisced about delicious food at former and updated location in town. Superb and efficient customer service with tact. Find metered, street parking on Kapahulu Ave or underground parking structure lot in Hee Hing Business Plaza. We're happy that they're in a larger restaurant with some of our favorites and new delights. Butterfish Tempura: Light, crispy on outside, and tender on inside with miso dipping sauce. Not oily. Perfect eight pieces. Enough for us to share. Age Dashi Tofu: Firm with light soy, brought pleasant memories of tempura dipping sauce. Sashimi Moriawase: Fresh variety of sashimi and seafood. Yum! Very clean, mild taste. Enoki Mushroom: Squirt some fresh lemon for citrusy tang on this appetizer. Chawan Mushi: Reminds me of enjoying spoonfuls of mild, comforting top layer of egg custard, savory soup filled with mushrooms. Uni Sushi: Sea urchin roe atop of rice and nori was so yummy! Only two of the five ladies partook in this delicacy. Monk Fish: Very tasty and worth indulging in. Wouldn't even guess in my wildest dream I'm eating this type of fish. Asparagus: Went well with other dishes. Crunchy and tasty on outside. Excellent source of fiber. Stuffed Portabello: Huge piece just right for five to taste and savor the crunchy rice with corn. Fried Fish Skins: Super crunchy with hints of salt. Black Sesame Gelato: Light, creamy and refreshing way to clean palate. Only one scoop is offered. Another option for dessert includes your choice of vanilla, strawberry or mango mochi ice cream. Call them in advance for dinner reservations. Worth indulging in Izakaya experience.

Yelp
Best hole-in-the-wall for fresh sushi! The fish is great quality, so fresh and at a decent price. I recommend the tempura. The vegetables are tender, the breading is crispy, and the dish is huge! Dinner usually comes out to $50/person without drinks. Hit or miss whether you can walk in. A con is that they don't do takeout, which is disappointing since the atmosphere isn't that great. Service is fine.

Yelp
General Description: An authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. The good: - All fish tastes fresh and rich. - The highlight was: Uni, Toro, and Hamachi. - Service was great. Overall: If you're ever in this area, give this place a try. Note: We made a reservation and it got packed really quick on a weekday. Make sure to book ahead.

Yelp
We were declined seating because they said that the last call was at 8:45 pm. This is no big deal because we came late. However, 2 people came right as we left and were seated. This is NOT acceptable...

Yelp
I made a reservation for this place as we drove by it. I saw a lot of people waiting outside to be seated so of course I was like I need to try this place We were the first party to arrive and the atmosphere was pleasant. Everyone was attentive and friendly. Sushi was good but I did expect it to be better hence we are in Hawaii. I don't know why I have this perception of everything seafood here is supposed to be A1 Negiri cut roll was decent but not as flavorful as I'm used to. Spicy tuna with garlic chips roll was delicious and flavorful BUT had a real spicy kick at the end Overall it was good. My family also enjoyed it.

Yelp
would love to have tried this place but we didn't get to. we were outside looking at the menu and genuinely thought it looks good and made the decision the ditch tamafuji for this place but a sushi chef suddenly came out to tell us to not wait in front of the restaurant and gave us a dirty look. we were still about to go in and then a waitress came in a spoke under her breath complaining about people waiting in front. we get that you hate that tonkotsu tamafuji gets a lot of business but you just lost some spill over business. don't treat new business or any business like that that's how you go out of business

Yelp
My family came her last weekend for dinner. It was merely by chance. We were actually gonna go to a restaurant down the road but the wait was an hour and a half. So we left and just started walking down the road. I told my husband "how about Tokkuri Tei?" He was all for it. They were pretty busy when we walked in but they were able to accommodate us. Thank goodness. We had a small table off to the side, but it was fine since there's only three of us. They have a crazy extensive menu. It was quite overwhelming. All of the dishes sounds so great and I didn't know what to choose from. My husband is still on that diet so he doesn't eat starch or sweets so Tokkuri Tei was perfect for him. We ended getting the salmon skin salad, butter shimeji mushrooms, tempura udon and salmon onigiri for my daughter, shishito peppers, salmon dynamite, yakitori, stuffed portabello, and salmon sashimi, and ika yaki. All of the food was really good. My favorites were the mushrooms, stuffed portabello, and sashimi. My husband was quite full after eating his dishes which is really a rarity since he's been on this diet. I'm hoping to come back soon.

Yelp
Oahu is foodie heaven. During a recent trip, we came across Tokkuri-Tei by chance. They exceeded expectations. Firstly, the menu is very extensive. They have it all and the menu has all the Japanese options you'd expect and more, including skewers, udon, sushi, sashimi and more. Their beer selection is great too. I had 2 fresh Suntory glasses on draft and they were super refreshing on the warm night. Everything was simply delicious. The highlights include beef tongue skewers, pork with shiso leaves, and eggplant appetizer. Well...everything was the highlight. The menu was very extensive so it was a little hard to order and choose. I wanted to try everything. To make it easy, the waitresses gave good recommendations. The service is exceptional here and the food comes out quickly. This plaza has great food options overall. Tokkuri-Tei adds to my memories in how Oahu is a foodie paradise. If you're in Kapuhulu or want a more peaceful dinner nearby Waikiki, this is the place to go. tl;dr: extensive Japanese menu with many options and delicious skewers.

Yelp
One of our favorite Japanese Restaurant to eat. This is our place we go for family birthdays. The menu is huge so hard to decide what to eat but we do have our favorites. You scan the QR Code and the menu comes out. Wē didnt have a reservation but was able to sit on the sushi bar (I recommend you make a reservation). This was the first time we sat at the bar. So neat, got to watch the staff at each station preparing the food. Our favorite was watching the sushi chef. He was very friendly and so fast. My husband ordered the Sashimi Moriawase Chew. He prepared so beautifully and handed to him when it was done. My favorite dishes that we normally order is the Nori Nachos, Butterfish Tempura w/ Miso Sauce, Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura. There are many other items we love to order too. The staff is always friendly and the service is fantastic. They close on Mondays. Lots of parking in the basement. Enjoy

Yelp
Usually I don't like restaurants that have an extensive menu but this one is an exception. They have sushi, sashimi, ryori, deep fried and skewers items. Even risotto...really? Risotto? We tried a little bit of everything from each categories (except risotto of course) and they were all quite good. Sashimi and sushi were fresh. Agedashi tofu and mochi were also delicious. The only one that was a bit disappointing was the shiitake mushroom stuffed with chicken and tofu. Couldn't taste the tofu at all and chicken didn't really match shiitake mushroom in my opinion. They also have a decent drink menu with a good selections of beer and sake at reasonable prices. Service was great I feel bad for the server since it took us so long to decide what to order but he stayed patient. It was busy on a Tuesday night so I'm sure this place is well loved by local community. We paid $2 for parking downstairs. If not, plenty street parking on Kapahulu.

Yelp
Tokkuri-Tei reminds me of the old Irifune that was down the street with their fishnet and mariner kitsch motif. Except at TT, they put up cute handwritten drawn notes and testimonials from customers instead of money. It was also a short walk from where we were staying, even though there is street parking and a pay underground garage in this 2 story block of stores. The restaurant might look like chaos, but the staff here have a certain system that keeps things rolling. On a busy Friday or Saturday night, it's best to call in for a reservation. We had come in for lunch on a weekday and liked it so much, we came back with friends for dinner. The lunch menu is simplified to 1 page, but you can still order stuff from the regular menu, which is HUGE! It's over 8 pages and somebody has to make a Cliff Notes version. The first 3 pages were just drinks! You have to download it with the QR code. For our lunch, we had 2x poke bowls with Ahi and Spicy Salmon, both very tasty. I had the Kurobuta Pork Katsu lunch special, perfectly panko breaded and tenderly fried with a unique porky taste. So when we returned for dinner a few nights later, I had to have it again and it was an even bigger pork loin, enough to share. For dinner with friends, we ordered a ton of different dishes to everybody's taste as you would do at an izakaya. It's like Japanese dim sum, ordering small dishes to share, while toasting good friends. - Kaki Fry (Breaded Oysters). My favorite! And we had to have 2 orders. 1 for the table and 1 for me - Kurobuta Pork Loin Katsu. Pork Perfection! - Tempura Udon, Yaki Udon and Cold Udon. Udon is pretty versatile. - Grilled Shishito Peppers, again 1 for the table and 1 for me. - Grilled Enoki & Pork Negimaki. Thin slices of pork wrapped around crunchy enoki mushrooms. Should have ordered several skewers because they ran out fast. - Salmon Onagiri, my son's favorite - Volcano Roll and Unagi Roll. Aight - Tokkuri Teishoku, a complete meal with teriyaki steak, shrimp tempura, sashimi & salad. What are those chewy rice balls on a stick called? - Grilled Ika. The squid in the Pacific Ocean would have Atlantic squid for afternoon snacks. This squid was HuGe! The walls of the body were like 1/2" thick! I remember seeing this in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. And it was perfectly grilled. Kampai!

Yelp
Ordered takeout sushi moriawase and sashimi moriawase and was astounded by the quantity and quality of the fish. Thick slices of fresh fish - worth every penny! Sorry no pictures - the sushi and sashimi were so good my husband and I couldn't stop eating until it was all gone.

Yelp
(12/25) Christmas review journey continuing I come here to enjoy good company, good food, and a relaxed environment. With that being said, this is not a $$$$ high end wait-at-your-feet service restaurant. You go in, get seated, read through the very extensive menu, order, and wait as your food comes out when the kitchen completes it. My go to every time I come here is the grilled beef tongue (when they don't sell out) and their truffle hamachi - so yummy! That with a glass of beer that I never finish and make my BF finish for me. We always order way too much food but it's fun to just sit, relax, and be minimally bothered -- except when it's closing time. When it's time for last call and they start shutting, you can't linger here. That's that. This is not the type of place that'll let you come in late/ close to last call, and let you finish a round of food or drinks at your leisure. You're in THEIR establishment and yeah, it sucks to be rushed out, but no one likes closing later and being held up when their hours are posted. If the club can throw everyone out by 2:00 AM on the dot, then you can't be mad at the restaurants for doing the same thing when it's their closing time. Other than the rush to leave when it's closing time and the very very very sticky menus, I still very much enjoy Tokkuri Tei!

Yelp
This has got to be my go to place for great Japanese food. Suggested Tokkuri-Tei to my co-workers when it came to a going away dinner. Everyone was excited. We spent time looking at the menu on line (during work of course) and was ready to order. However, it was 4 days away. Lol. Then we had to cut down the list down to only 10 due to the government mandates during the pandemic. I wasn't easy and a few people were hurt in the process but, they'll get over it. haha. I have never been disappointed with the food quality here and was not surprised that we enjoyed great tasting food. Compliments were flying across the table as we were eating and mentioning how others, who couldn't make it, would have loved it. We had so much fun, food, beer and sake that I forgot to snap pictures. but, let it be known it was amazing. What did we order that was so great you ask? on the menu: Negi toro - cut style, Ika yaki, Opae maki (opae not oppai), Nori-chos, spicy pan seared crab (wow), Sakekawa tofu salad, Miso portabella thats all I remember. Probably because there were lots of Asahi, Hakkaisan and Dassai 50. Everyone had a great time and yes, we talked and bragged at work. Mahalo Gozai masu Tokkuri

Yelp
Located on Kapahulu in a mini plaza, you can find parking underneath for $2. Or street parking. There was some drama with the attendant so be careful when parking. The restaurant itself is pretty eclectic. There is a glass jar with snake inside where you can drink from this sorcery. We ordered a few sushi. Each one had a plus and a minus to each. Sauces were good, fish cuts were so-so. Rolls tasted kinda "mushy". I really wanted to love this place but it was just meh for me. I ordered the blue crab roll and broke out immediately for days. Yes I'm allergic to iodine but usually take a chance and am ok. I guess blue crab is a no. Not the restaurant's fault however. Busy was full for a work day so glad that they're thriving.

Yelp
I'm curious if those who gave 5 stars have ever tried a Japanese restaurant. The food barely meets the standard, the service is rushed, and, most notably, the wait for the food is excruciatingly long. We waited 30 minutes for just one dish, and the entire dining experience stretched out to 1.5-2 hours. The tempura lacks crispiness, and the grilled items were already getting cold. The price was 100+ for 2 people. My advice to everyone: steer clear of this place.

Yelp
Find me another izakaya with a larger menu or even a place with half of the menu items Tokkuri-Tei has. Read the menu carefully...it's hilarious lol. I appreciate the humor. We went pretty early cuz we eat at grandparent times now (aka 5:30pm). We really liked it because we were one of maybe 4 other groups that were in the restaurant. Everyone was social distancing and Tokkuri-Tei has barriers in place for the sushi bar as well as for tables. They also have QR code to access the HUGE menu. Wakame Qri Su (Seaweed & Cucumber w/ Tosa Vinegrette) ($4.00) Sakekawa Tofu Salad (Salmon Skin) (small order $11.50) Yaki Udon ($17.50) Negitoro ($7.50(?)) Spicy Tuna Roll ($7.50(?)) Everything was solid and came out pretty quickly. My personal fave was the Sakeakawa Tofu Salad, although I wish they had more tofu in it. Can't wait to go back and try more items!

Yelp
Love the food and the employees make it so worth it. The restaurant also for me mega bonus close to home. Have an Uber and have Al the drinks you like not having to worry about an expensive Uber either.

Yelp
Nothing compares to tokkuri-tei. The best sushi you can get with the freshest fish. Miso Butterfish or miso eggplant are always good appetizers and so are the gobo fries. Everything on the menu is amazing you can't go wrong. The sushi where it's at!

Yelp
The food is sooo good. We got the stuffed portobello mushroom. It's stuffed with sticky fried rice. This is a must try!! We also got the ginger pork and a tempura plate. Both entries came with miso soup and salad. The miso soup is delicious and has wakame and little tofu cubes. The pork ginger was nice and flavorful. I am biased but the best part of the whole meal was the tempura. I love love love me some tempura. It is served fresh and piping hot. It is lightly battered and cooked at the right temperature (leaving it not oily ). There's shrimp, carrots, eggplant, green beans and some other veggies that I couldn't identify but tasted great. I also ordered some hot tea, which was extremely hot - just be careful. Parking on the street isn't too bad. There were stalls available. However we did wait a little longer than expected to be seated and to pay the bill at the end too. You'll probably have to run down and add money to the meter. Originally you can pay up to an hour. But but but if you go in the even you can park at the bank parking just around 25 feet away if going ocean bound. It's on the same side of the street and you can pay for your parking using an app and add time remotely from your phone so you don't have to disrupt your meal.

Yelp
Off the Beaten Path Japanese Izakaya, Must Try! This restaurant is location is small shopping center on the second floor. There is parking underneath the building and street parking. Reservations are recommended and you have to call them. No online reservations. We went for dinner. We wanted to experience some traditional izakaya and yakitori atmosphere versus only sushi. The menu is pretty expensive and if you don't know Japanese names of the plates and or their equivalent in English we would recommend doing some homework. We have ordered a lot of different small plates. Everything was as expected, and the food tasted fresh and delicious. Besides small plates we ordered one roll, Mauna Loa Roll, the mother of all rolls. It was $45 and it was HUGE. It had EVERYTHING on it and was very tasty. One recommendation, ask the chef to slice it into smaller slices, it would be easier to eat it. Other than that, it was great! The service was standard, and we enjoyed it. We recommend this place and when we're back in Hawaii we will definitely stop by again.

Yelp
Just love this izakaya. We've been coming to Tokkuritei since they were located in a tiny space on Sheridan Street. Followed them to the first Kapahulu location across from Zippy's Kapahulu then to their current second floor spot where Hee Hing used to be and next to my favorite tonkatsu restaurant Tonkatsu Tamafuji. Sake is my normal beverage of choice and Tokkuritei's selection never disappoints. Tonight I had Suntory draft and the big bottle of Asahi Super Dry. Our food selection included half portion of the salmon skin salad, unagi & natto/yamaimo temaki, agedashi tofu, amaebi karaage, asari sakamushi (clams), ikura sushi, nasu dengaku. We didn't order anything new but they continue to execute their menu very well. Service was great as it normally is. We chose Tokkuritei on the fly because our first choice was Alejandro's Mexican Food in Kapahulu but their parking lot was packed and after drive up Kaimuki Avenue and several side streets we gave up. Recently we've tried to get into Tokkuritei midweek and call for reservations several hours ahead with no luck. This time we were able to snag a 2-top during prime dinner hours. In summary I'd say that you really can't go wrong dining at Tokkuritei whether at their sushi bar or at a table. The staff have come and gone but the owner's the same and the restaurant is very well run. Parking was a reasonable $2 up to 8 o'clock when the parking attendant leaves for the night. On-street parking is hit or miss and as Hawaii slowly emerges from COVID restrictions the basement parking lot had ample open spaces. I'm starting to crave izakaya food again even though I'm still digesting tonight's dinner!

Yelp
Sooo behind on reviews, and this is a must do... Tokkuri-Tei use to be located where Ono-Ya is now, and Tokkuri-Tei has been here for some time now... think since the vacancy of Sam Choy's in this building. Though both locations are on Kapahulu Ave and the current is larger, I still miss the old place with the signatures and pictures all over the walls. Gave the place character with all the memories posted. So, you're looking for Japanese cuisine with drinks to match... this is the spot! Currently, located on the top floor of the Hee Hing Plaza on Kapahulu, with either basement parking, or street parking, this watering hole is your ticket to a good time. Haven't been in hea since the pandemic started, but remember the place had choke indoor seats, but not sure now with having to only have 10 or less in each group. Good to call ahead to see if they have space. My fav dish from hea was the Philly Poke, but they no longer have this dish, but they do have many others to choose from... Sake Dynamite, Asparagus Pork, Fresh Ahi Shrimp Tempura, and other bar-friendly dishes. Fo'sure they have them drinks covered and when I use to drink, my go to hea was the Watermelon Shochu... like a Shirley Temple wit action! Beware of the late hits... you've been warned! ;) They also have domestic and imported beers to go with all the delicious pupus! Besides small plates, they also do main dishes, like a Wafu Hamburger Steak, or if you want a pre-set meal like their Hyotan Teishoku. If you came hea to grind and not drink, this place will cost you more, but you will get great tasting dishes to boot. Otherwise, this joint is a must for groups and those who enjoy Japanese cuisine. Till my next visit, hopefully soon, Grind On! Pau!

Yelp
First time coming here and I thought this was a nice little restaurant. Great place to come with family and friends to have a great meal and some adult beverages. Food was good with decent-sized portions. The sushi and sashimi were very fresh. Staff were attentive and very friendly. I will definitely come back to try some of their other dishes. Come check this place out when you are in the Kapahulu area. There is a good amount of parking downstairs, below the restaurant.

Yelp
Oh my goodness the food here is amazing! As was the service. Fresh sushi just melted in your mouth. Servings were generous. We had a group of 7 and everyone enjoyed themselves. Highly recommend

Yelp
MY FAV RESTAURANT on alllll of Oahu. I almost feel as though I'm revealing my own secrets reviewing Tokkuri-Tei. I love this restaurant so much! The service is unbeatable - Laura is so amazing! If you're going in unsure of what to orders, she recommends the best options and makes you feel like you're eating at a friends house. I could write a novel, but long story short -- if you're a local or visiting, you have to try this place. It's like eating a lays chip, you can't just have one!

Yelp
This place is a must! Located in Kapahulu right next to Tonkatsu Tamafuji. There is parking under the building but if it's full there's plenty street parking available. I would advise to make reservation if you don't want to wait. But we came here on a Friday at around 7:30ish and got seated at 8. I would say customer service is good they are very busy but the food comes out pretty quick and they refill your water often. We got the maguro and hamachi sashimi. I swear it was sooo buttery and soft. The yaki-tori and pork enoki skewers were ono we had to order to take home. I love their rolls. The baked Alaska roll was my favorite as it was really flavorful. I really enjoyed the crunch factor from the garlic ahi roll. And the spicy ahi uramaki was also really good but just plain compared to the other rolls. Would highly recommend this place for family and friends! Side Note: I love reading their menus they have some cute ways of explaining their dishes

Yelp
3.5 Stars, okay food but bumping down to 3 for the average service. FOOD: Chirashi Bowl - Chew Size ($35): Not the best chirashi bowl I've had as I the fish wasn't very fresh. The tako was super chewy, I couldn't even bite through it and had to swallow it whole. Ebi was also tough to bite into. Salmon and Tuna were average, a bit tough in some parts but soft in other. What killed it though was the lack of flavor. Yellowtail and squid were probably my favorite pieces, tasted much fresher and soft to bite into. Yaki Tori ($4 for 2): This was actually a standout and if I were to come back here I think I would just get the skewers as I think this is place is known more of it. The chicken was super moist and had a nice bbq flavor. Pickled Cucumber & Wakame: Probably one of the best pickled cucumbers I've had in a while. It just had that perfect balance of sweet and sour in the pickling juice. SERVICE: When I walked in the front desk guy wasn't very welcoming or helpful. I had to go up to him to ask for a table and instead of answering me he spoke to one of the girls who sat me down. The waitresses were all super nice though and food did come out super quick.

Yelp
Food is fresh and taste very good. People work in the restaurant are very gentle. Only one thing we had to pay parking $3 we paid $5 but they said they have no change so we had to pay $4. It is better bring $1bill. Even after he got money from the people never gave us back $1. Other than that it was good.

Yelp
We ended up here randomly since we were in the location and glad we did. The Japanese dishes we had were both delicious. We enjoyed the Japanese hamburger steak and Tonkatsu. The hamburger itself was so tasty. The daikon, ponzu and green onion on the top tied the dish together.Yumm! The tonkatsu was delicious as well. It was so juicy and well prepared. It was pretty comparable to other Tonkatsu restaurants that specialize in only katsu. Impressive! The ambiance had an older Japanese restaurant vibe and the service was good. Our impromptu lunch experience was great!

Yelp
Delicious food!!! The service was amazing, everyone was so kind and attentive. Their sushi was fresh and priced well. Salmon skin and tofu salad is a must try. Interestingly, their California roll made with real crab was bomb.com.

Yelp
My group had a delicious dinner (and a few rounds of snake venom shots, beer and sake ). I always recommend the salmon skin salad, hamachi truffle, rainbow roll, and unagi risotto. The chicken meatballs were surprisingly super moist and tasty. The snake venom drink is made with Bacardi 151, so it's potent.

Yelp
Updating my review!!! This is STILL one of my favorite izakaya places to eat at!! Parking in the building is $2, there are metered stalls on both sides of Kapahulu that are free after 6:30 pm, you can also park in the First Hawaiian Bank lot after 6 (not quite sure if it is 6...might be 6:30) but must pay - don't forget to pay. I recommend making a reservation even if it is just 2 of you. Especially now that tables have been removed to ensure social distancing. They have placed menus on the windows and movable screen partitions to make it easier for you to see, and also provide a QR code if you prefer looking at the menu on your phone. If you are early for your reservation or just walk in, you may be asked to wait outside while they ready a table for you. The workers here are very aware of social distancing and want to ensure that the front area is clear for the workers to move around. My favorite dishes are STILL the tanuki udon, tanshio and sabi yaki. I have added to that list...Salmon skin salad - SO YUMMO - the salmon skin is crisp and broken into very nice pieces, and the tofu is a perfect complement. A grilled musubi is perfect for the times I decide to not have an udon. I enjoy the flakiness and taste of their tempura as well. Their fish is always fresh and you feel like the chef selected the best pieces just for you. You won't be disappointed at all if you decide to dine in or take out. The workers are very personable and are knowledgeable of the menu if you have any questions.

Yelp
Service was great! The waitresses were very attentive and considerate. The food on the other hand was a bit questionable. We ordered sashimi and I had to tell my best friend, not to eat certain things as it looked a bit...gross. The shrimp looked very old, the oyster shooters were very fishy, and some of the fish was very rubbery. My friend and I both left feeling a bit nauseated but we tried to say, maybe we both had a weak stomach. I feel terrible for leaving such a bad review but my thoughts were confirmed when my other friends, had gone to this restaurant yesterday without us making any comments, told us that they got food poisoning.

Yelp
Review is not for the food, but solely for service. We wanted to go in just for a drink (15-20 minutes). There were some tables available and they were going to seat us until we said "only here for some drinks". They then proceeded to kick me and my party out. Their food is probably good, but I think just the way they handled the situation was not ideal. The waitress literally laughed at our faces and told us to leave.

Yelp
I feel like this place is a hidden gem that only locals know about -- which don't get me wrong, I LOVE THAT! Recommend making reservations though because we've been there a few times on different days and it's a hit and miss on how many people dine in. Another recommendation is to actually study the menu ahead of time...it's very extensive! Which is totally not a bad thing but you could spend lots of time just deciding on what to order. All the sushi is fresh so you can't go wrong on that! Teishoku is always a great option if you're totally on the fence but their izakaya options are delicious too!
