"Named for the famed Tokyo train station, Shinjuku is a Japanese izakaya that serves drinks and small plates. You can find sushi here (along with a ton of other delicious things), but this place is anything but traditional, and their charming and spacious back patio may make you think you’ve wandered onto a Wes Anderson set. Sip some sake and take your time ordering a few small as you go. Just make sure the sake-steamed black mussels, tok fries, and beer-braised pork buns are in the mix." - emily smith

Went for happy hour 3-6. Great decision! Food is basically half price. Sushi & rice bowls all very flavorful. Get a reservation especially if you go during happy hour.

I almost missed the entrance and entered the next lot due to missing signage, even at the entrance of the door (the paper lanterns inside are the only evidence that tipped me off). I ordered the combination yakisoba and tempura shrimp appetizer. They had unsweetened tea with sugar packets available. The food was delicious. I really liked the char of the yakisoba. Although the menu stated that the tempura is served with baby shrimp (which is likely small-medium sized shrimp) I was really hoping to get the traditional length/style of shrimp made. I'm happy that this place didn't instead serve breaded shrimp while calling it tempura (like some local restaurants do), so this was almost close to traditionalo batter. I'll definitely come back to try other dishes, with okonomiyaki like dish or even takoyaki if they have it! Mia was very friendly and so kind to add the military discount to the bill, making the total $25.30.

Highly recommend this place! Hama Chili was my favorite! Beef bowl with poached egg was awesome. Fries were a 10/10. Ohhh and let's not forget the heated toilet seats in the bathroom!!! Pleasant surprise

Fantastic Omakase dinner tonight, with cocktail pairing. Great experience overall! The food was fantastic and the pairings were all on point. Great service, as usual. They again showed why they are one of the hidden gems of Fort Worth.

The food here is great. Definitely returning to eat here again. Amy and everyone should try this place. I had the On the beach roll and, New York sunrise roll, the gyoza, the Tok fries, Bao bun, pork fried rice and the chicken teriyaki and the katsu chicken. All were delicious. My daughter loved it as well. The lemonade was just right for me.

My work friend talked very highly about this place and i can definitely see the charm! The place kind of reminds me of some of the modern restaurants in Japan that repurpose old houses, so its def a vibe! I strongly recommend coming here early, I came around 1 and it was packed, and the parking is a bit small. I sat at the sushi bar, which is kind of in a corner away from everyone so it could be kind of a romantic or a nice quiet place to eat but when I sat down at first I felt kind of hidden away 😅. I was going to get a bento box so I could try a few different things but unfortunately they don't offer those on weekends so I got a few appetizers that I was eyeing and a sushi roll recommend by the waitress. The sushi roll, the white tiger was good, not something I'd normally get but it wasn't bad! It had a slight southwest flavor which im not used to with sushi, so its kind of unique. I also got the beef bun and okonomiyaki. The beef bun was actually my favorite thing and it was amazing! Especially the sauce it came with! I wish they gave me move to dip the buns in! The okonomiyaki, which was the reason I decided to go to Tokyo Cafe cause i was having a craving for it. The okonomiyaki was good but not what I was expecting 😅 it was very cakey (could be a new style of okonomiyaki with Osaka, Hiroshima, and modern 🤣). It was good but there wasn't a lot of cabbage inside of it like an Osaka style usually is so it felt more like eating a pancake than okonomiyaki. Overall, this place has a cute ambiance and decent food and ill definitely come back!

I'd say the ambiance looks better in person than in pictures. The food is just as delicious as it looks. Sesame chicken was fried to perfection and the served with a sort of tangy sauce. Pork bits in the pork fried rice were a bit charred (👍), salty, great texture and very tasty!

We’ve been wanting to try this place and it was a great experience, from the Asian decor to the welcoming atmosphere to the food. We got the Shumai to start off and it was pretty good. I suggest having the sauce on the side if you’re not into really spicy things. My boyfriend got the beef bowl and it was delish. The beef was perfectly seasoned and the sauce had a great flavor. You don’t get much protein, so next time he wants to order it with extra meat. I got the west side Ramen which was yummy. The broth was ok, but the noodles were good and plenty. I got the pork loin since I always get the pork belly, so it wasn’t as flavorful. Overall it was good, but I’ve had better. Definitely a place to try if you’re in the area and/or want to eat good food.

Yelp
We have been here SO many times- it is always 10/10 for atmosphere, food, service, heated toilet seats - everything ! Steven & Shesuka (excuse my spelling) are amazing every time . We recommend the Tok fries (obviously), west side ramen & temptation roll. See you next week!

Yelp
Visited Tokyo Cafe for the very first time for lunch today. I love the decor and the ambiance of the cafe. The place was still little packed with lunch hour rush. I had short wait until I was seat at a table. The server was nice and friendly. The service was little bit on the slow side. My food came out in weird order and my server did not check on me until towards end of my meal. I ordered green tea, miso soup, spicy tuna rolls and Tan Tan Ramen with pork belly. The spicy tuna rolls came out first and it was delicious. I was hoping the miso soup would had came out with the rolls but they did not. The miso soup came out with the Tan Tan ramen. Soup was good. Ramen was delicious but it was supposed to be spicy but it was not to me.

Yelp
Stopped in on a weekend afternoon and it was fairly busy. I was seated quickly, however the service was fairly slow. Food was absolutely delicious however and I'll be returning for sure. The sushi is fresh and very well made. Tok fries are out of this world good -- very reminiscent of shinjuku station.

Ellie F.

Yelp
Friend & I went to lunch today. I was wanting sushi & this is where she picked. Cutest place, bright, not too tight & loved the decor. The Tok Fries were such a unique experience, I totally recommend trying them. Now I went with my go to Spider Roll & Philadelphia Roll. Both were really good but I have to say it was the best Philadelphia Roll I have had in a long time. Our waiter was nice but was a little slow on the drink refills. All & all I will be back!!!

Scott G.

Yelp
Stellar service. Great food. Awesome selection. Loved the feel. Good music in the background. Absolutely recommend.

Yelp
This is the first time Ihave eaten here and it was delicious. I had the fried rice, with beef pork and chicken. It was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately I was so concentrated on eating that I did not get a chance to get any pictures. The rest of my party had other food and while I was not paying attention to them because I was eating, I do remember hearing them all talk about how delicious their meals were.

Grace I.

Yelp
Great lunch special for their bento box! The food was really yummy, and I enjoyed it as a lunch spot for a friend and I! The staff was incredibly friendly and very timely on being greeted, bringing out food, and receiving the check. The restaurant was also so cute! Very bright and happy during the day, lots of natural lighting and simplistic design choices that really bring the space together.

Yelp
Recommended from FW FOODIES group on FB & we were pleased! Food- Everything was pretty good. Would try different rolls next visit. The spicy tomato & watermelon soup tasted like a salsa, acquired taste for sure. Service was great. Food came out in a timely manner, as prepared. The waiter and waitress that waited on us were both attentive and patient with my questions while ordering. Will return soon!

Yelp
This place is pretty solid. It's in a cool spot, a real neighborhood hangout. The exterior and interior were both very modern, but not cold. We came in at around 7:30pm. When we walked in, we were waiting there for a minute before someone approached us. He seemed a little frazzled to ensure that he didn't seat us in an area where the servers are too bombarded. I just felt his nervous energy. We got seated after a few minutes in a nice corner table. We were quickly greeted by our server and ordered drinks, two apps, and our ramen. We had the furikake riblets and the bao buns. To our surprise, the baos were filled with brisket. I liked the taste of the bun and that it had a little crunch on the bottom, but I wasn't really a fan of the brisket with the bbq sauce on the side. The brisket wasn't as tender as I had hoped. The riblets though were really nicely done. They had a nice smoky flavor to them and were perfectly seasoned with that furikake. I had the westside ramen with pork belly. Coming from Los Angeles, I'm very particular about my ramen because Tsujita ruined it for me. I will forever compare future ramen experiences with Tsujita. This place was pretty solid. The most important thing about ramen, to me, is the broth. This broth was flavorful. It didn't taste as fatty as the Tsujita broth, which could be a positive thing for most people. I would come and eat the ramen here again. I'd like to try the yakisoba and the katsu pork bowl. The parking is easy. There's a small lot, but there's street parking. I believe we caught this place on a less busy night because it was raining, but it seems like this place is really popular so I would suggest making a reservation on their website. Would definitely recommend this place for some down home Japanese comfort food with a twist!

Yelp
Friendly service, great food, great adult beverage selection. Only thing is they stay busy so I'll take that as a good sign.

Jacob R.

Yelp
The wasabi crusted salmon roll was to die for the warm roll with the eel sauce was just amazing. Service was great our dinner didn't take a long time and the employees were very friendly. If I didn't know any better I would've thought I was in a café in Tokyo there were paper lanterns everywhere and the decor looked purely Japanese there was even a waving cat.

Alison S.

Yelp
Delicious food all around. Service during the lunch crowd was great! We really enjoy the large window seats and decor. Dining here is a lovely experience!

Thiago D.

Yelp
What a great spot to get to know. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and decided we wouldn't plan anything and just explore around. We wanted some sushi so we found Tokyo Cafe, and what a great experience. The food is so good and the service did not disappoint neither, Samantha took care of us and she was amazing. The restaurant itself is really clean and modern but of course with some typical Japanese decor. We had a few different things but we loved the Alaska Roll, it is simple and perfect. The cucumber salad is great too. We would highly recommend this place!

Dennis M.

Yelp
The food here was unfortunately a little underwhelming. They sushi portions are small I got a simple California Roll to me is a good base roll to get to see how good a a restaurants sushi is and it tasted similar to what could be bought at a grocery store. The teriyaki chicken bowl didn't have enough flavor for me and tasted kind of bland. Service and atmosphere were very good.

Jenny C.

Yelp
Delicious food and amazing service. We started with garlic stir fried edamame and bao. Both were simple but delicious! Also had the chili hamachi, salmon sushi, dynamite shrimp and ramen with pork belly. Salmon sushi could've been cut thicker but still good. The dynamite shrimp was perfection, so good I wanted another order. I would definitely come back for me!

Yelp
I came to Tokyo Café during my stay at Fort Worth Texas, and I have to say that Fort Worth is slowly growing on me because they have amazing food. I am immediately drawn to the prices of restaurants because coming from Miami, Florida (my hometown) everything is priced very fairly compared to the new restaurants that are quickly being developed. If you come to Tokyo Café, I would recommend trying the Tan Tan Ramen. If you are looking for a lot of protein, you may have to add extra pork belly because a lot of the bowl consists of noodles. However, I like how there is an egg added to the mix. The service staff here is also very hospitable, and they will split checks for you. My friends also ordered different bowls, sushi, and the Ramen and were also pleased at the taste of the food. The ambience is relaxed, and I would recommend coming here if you are looking for a nice sitdown restaurant where you can lounge.

Larry G.

Yelp
The best lunch bento box ever! Great choices, quality, and portion size. Great service Great Venue

Sunnie B.

Yelp
Lowkey sucked. Don't know what to say. Couple good things on the menu but nothing to write home about. Cheers

Jody R.

Yelp
So this place is really nice ambience, good service and interesting food. The fries are a signature item and amazing. The food really depends on palate and is maybe not for everyone. We had the pork katsu bowl- which ended up being massive amount of egg and onion over some crusted pork over rice or noodles. No sauce comes with this dish and the eggs were overpowering for me as was twice as much as pork. The other dish was the sesame chicken. The chicken was good and we had amazing noodles with it but the sauce was not traditional and comes separate. If you didn't love their sauce version then the dish didn't completely work.

Aliyah S.

Yelp
I love this place! I love visiting with friends and family and sharing multiple dishes. It's a perfect place to do such a thing. They have the most special Tok Fries Okonomiyaki, and Dynamite Rock Shrimp. Those are must orders! I've enjoyed all the servers I've ever had. They're friendly and helpful when I need help navigating the menu. It's a very cute and relaxed restaurant. Something I really want to try is their "build your own bento box" lunch special which they serve Monday through Friday 11 am - 3 pm. It's such a fun concept!

Monika V.

Yelp
The chicken yakisoba noodles were amazing. Steaming hot and fresh with flavor. The shumai were good but very spicy. The spice girls roll was lacking in flavor but I would go back and try again. Seems like a good spot and well-priced food!

Lara H.

Yelp
Tokyo Cafe is one of my favorite lunch spots in Fort Worth. They have a great menu, the food is consistently good, and the atmosphere is bright and open. There's something on the menu for everyone here. They are almost always busy, so if you can snag a reservation that can be helpful, although I've waited for a table before and it's still worth it. The Tok Fries are seriously incredible. I get them to share every time I go. The sushi is very fresh, with great flavor. My favorite is the Temptation Roll. They have a good drink menu - the hibiscus margarita is seriously incredible. It's the only flavored margarita I've ever liked. They also have a lunch special during the week - build your own bento - which is the perfect way to try lots of different things.

Fatima C.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place!!! By far my favorite sushi place! The Tejas roll is absolutely my favorite! I love the spicy touch to it! Environment is really calm and cozy! This restaurant is like a hole in the wall, which is nice because there's no other place like it. Service is good for the most part, when it's busy I do feel bad for the servers because it's a lot for not many staff. The staff itself though is very sweet! 10/10 recommend!

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Went on a Thursday night without a reservation, got sat in about 15 min! Server was attentive and got our drinks and appetizers right away. Everything exceeded expectations! Bao buns were to die for!

Melissa O.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. Shrimp tempura - this is not your typical shrimp tempura, it's not long pieces, it's more like popcorn shrimp and it is AMAZING. You will be fighting over who gets the last piece. All the rolls I have tried - Tejas, White Tiger, Spice Girls, Alaska, Caterpillar, Rainbow - are fantastic. Plenty of fish, perfectly textured rice and, my favorite thing, really really well thought out. I am not normally a fan of specialty rolls because they always come off as "too much." But not these. They are so well constructed and carefully assembled and every little flavor comes through. I was more impressed with the rolls here than I have been almost anywhere in my life. Bravo. I have also had a lunch bento box to enjoy the sushi on its own and was once again impressed with the careful assembly, freshness, and flavor of everything on my plate. Love love the environment here. Not something I normally comment on, but it's just so open and bright. Service has been outstanding both times as well. Can't wait to come back and try more - got my eye on that popular beef bowl!

Jenny N.

Yelp
The hami chili was one of the best things I've ever eaten. It was to die for, I also got two piece sushi that was freshwater eel a.k.a. Unagi and then I also got brussels sprouts appetizer. New York Sunrise Roll was awesome. I wasn't too hungry but I wanted to try new things. Service was excellent. He brought me a pitcher of water since I drink a bunch, ambience is nice natural lighting from windows. I go mid afternoon when it's not as crowded. This place has a wait for lunches & dinners.

Name L.

Yelp
The place looked rundown from the outside. The parking wasn't too good, but I was immediately taken in by the inside. It was very decorated, to say the least. I took pictures of everything. The waiter was nice to us and the QR code menu was a nice touch. Plus, the chopsticks were so high quality that there were no splinters. For a Japanese place, there were a lot of spicy things--something that isn't too common in Japan. The avo bake was nice, though the bao bun was better. My favorite was the roll of the day. It had salmon, shrimp tempura, cucumber and avocado, with pineapple chili sauce. I usually don't like raw salmon, but it was cut thinly and barely had any aftertaste at all. It didn't have that slimy texture that some fish do. I got the beef bowl with extra beef. I was kind of disappointed... it had a lot of sauce. The texture was off, as if the chef left it on one side for too long. It was tough in places where it shouldn't have been. I liked the type of rice they used, but I wouldn't get the beef bowl again. Unfortunate, because the entire reason I came here was specifically for a bowl of beef. Otherwise, it was pretty nice. The roll was the best thing there, and if I went there again I would've gotten two or three. I'd recommend adding this to your main menu! The flavor profile is very unique

Suzanne T.

Yelp
Tok Fries! Have to get them to start off with. Creative and flavorful menu selection with a helpful staff.

Helen S.

Yelp
Ordered two sushi rolls for takeout. The wait upon arrival at the restaurant was pretty long. The rolls were mediocre and miniature sized. It was slightly comical how small they were. Not worth it in my opinion, may have to return for other items. 2 stars for ease of checkout and friendliness.

Sami A.

Yelp
The food here was so delicious. Our server was delightful and the atmosphere was very fun and inviting. The food was so fresh and the tastes were unique. I got the simple salmon with Brussels sprouts and it was awesome. We also got a passionfruit mocktail and it was really yummy!

Isak Z.

Yelp
Super fun and yummy spot in Fort Worth. Great noodles and sushi. Service is kind also. Highly recommend!

Jaime J.

Yelp
If you visit, please order some tok fries as a form of self-love! I've visited here several times and all the experiences have been positive. The lunch special is great and I haven't had many of the different drinks options but the hibiscus margarita was phenomenal. Food - 4/5 Service - 5/5 Ambience - 5/5 Parking - 3/5

Heidi S.

Yelp
The food is great always fresh! Little pricy on cocktails, the atmosphere is very noisy but if you don't mind that it's worth a visit

Dmitri A. N.

Yelp
I've gone to this restaurant my whole life. I'm always greeted by name like an old friend and they know exactly what I like. I'm very rarely disappointed here with the food, always unendingly pleased by the service and atmosphere, and never far from returning.

Melissa M.

Yelp
This place was quaint, cute, and clean. The food was instagramable and delicious! The drink wasn't strong, but it was a compliment to the food. Portions were large! Service was quick and waiter was friendly! I will come back when i come back to Ft. Worth!

TJ N.

Yelp
Upon arrival their 'relatively small' parking lot was full, but we were not dissuaded, instead we parked in the street nearby. We checked in at the front desk and the wait was supposed to be 30 minutes, but ended up being about 15 or so. I started with a small pot of green tea (perfect!), then we had onomiyake and fried veggies (brussel sprouts, etc) for an appetizer - which both were spectacular -- as well as the tok fries which come with a slightly spicy creamy sauce and some sesame seeds to dip (they were good but I don't need to get them next time). My partner ordered an adult beverage which took quite a while to arrive at the table. There was a big lull between the appetizers and the sushi rolls - all four which were fresh and tasty. This place is really a quality establishment - but it was over $90 with tip, so we only venture here once in a blue moon.

Leah F.

Yelp
We loved the atmosphere, and the service is great, and it was really clean. The food was pretty good And place was busy so seemed to be a local favorite The Bao buns are great -I understand why the brussels sprouts are a hit and the rock shrimp is definitely a crowd favorite, but easily becomes muddled and soggy. The tempura being drenched in the spicy mayo Sriracha combo-The Sesame chicken was a little underwhelming and I should've ordered a roll. However, we will be back. It is fun exploring this menu. It's OK... We went back for a second time, I had the spider roll, and the avocado roll, a Bento box, seaweed salad... Along with the tok fries- good little fast lunch place... But it's not the best sushi, everything is about a good solid 7.5. It's just what it says, Café food...Can you really mess up seaweed salad?

Winnie Y.

Yelp
A cute Fort Worth restaurant off the historical Camp Bowie Blvd. Friends used to come here in high school and here I am as an adult now. A 30-45 minute wait on a Saturday night with no reservations. Definitely would recommend reservations. It was packed for a Saturday night. We were greeted quickly by our waitress and drinks were at the table quickly. We ordered apps (sautéed edamame and Tok fries). Both were very good. Entrees included fish and chips, tan tan ramen, katsu bowl. We also got two rolls. Everything was so good! The sautéed edamame had great "wok hay" (in Chinese that flavor from the wok) and spices. We enjoyed everything. The waitstaff are all attentive and got us drink refills without asking. We left spending less than $100 for four of us (a little north of $100 including tip).

Kathryn R.

Yelp
Tokyo Cafe is so great! I come here all the time, mostly ordering my food online because of how simple it is, but the vibes inside the actual restaurant are great, so you don't want to miss out. The interior is nicely decorated and has a unique vibe to it--definitely a place to go to dinner with some friends and family. Service is also very speedy, and servers are always friendly. The food is always consistently good, even in takeout. I've gotten many things- ramen, sushi, miso soup, and various side dishes- and they're all delicious. Most underrated item on the menu is probably the hot green tea. If you've never had Japanese green tea, this would be a great place to try it!

Eliya K.

Yelp
One of the worst experiences I've had with a restaurant. The food took 45 minutes to come out, the size of the food was absurd. I thought they had mistakenly brought out the kids portion but I was SHOCKED to see that the bowls were that small. The size of the sushi rolls was the smallest roles I've ever seen in my life. If I could turn back time the only regret I have is choosing to eat at Toyko Cafe. I wish I could give them 0 stars for the overall experience. The best part of this restaurant was being able to leave knowing I will never be returning.

Stephanie V.

Yelp
GET THE TOK FRIES. I feel like the fries are such a staple here. You can't go wrong with seasoned fried potatoes. I like coming here for lunch because I can get the bento box and mix-match my food options. The okonomiyaki is also a favorite of mine- they don't skimp on the bonito flakes. One time, we ordered the beef/pork siu mai ($8) and received 3 small morsels of "siu mai." Ok yes, I understand I set myself up for failure by ordering a Chinese dish in a Japanese establishment, but those 3 tiny pan-fried dumplings were just disappointing. Did I mention that it was $8. Nonetheless, I did like the chili sauce that they were bathed in--lots of umami flavor with a spicy kick. The service can be really slow at times. On multiple occasions, I've had to wait an excessively long time to receive my check. It is a minor inconvenience but it can be a hindrance when you're on a time crunch. Regardless, Tokyo Cafe is a solid spot that has been around for years. The food is delicious.

Gabe S.

Yelp
This place is perfect for a quick lunch date. Stopped here for lunch with my colleagues and absolutely loved it! 10/10

Rebecca B.

Yelp
First time here but definitely won't be the last !! Everything was super yummy and the service was great.

Octavia B.

Yelp
Such cute atmosphere and great food. They have a roll of the day and the tok fries are addictive! Will definitely be back for the tan tan noodles!

Melina L.

Yelp
Amazing service! Food came out very quickly and everything was delicious. This is a great spot for date night. We will definitely be coming back.

Lorna S.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! Fresh sushi and tasty drinks. Friendly service, helpful with choosing dishes. Great atmosphere, very cozy.

Oscar M.

Yelp
I tried Tokyo Cafe for the first time today, I have been so excited to try it out. But unfortunately I ordered the Beef bowl. I don't know if it was because it was a take out order or if this is how they do things there. But that neef bowl was sad. Even though it was a basic beef bowl with green onions for $11.00, I expected a little more than a quarter ounce of meat. The bowl was 95% rice, with 3% sauce, and 2% beef. I will say this... the food was good, but not good enough for me to want to go back and willingly spend my hard earned money on again.

Natalie M.

Yelp
Very cute restaurant. Great decor and service. Good variety on the menu but not the most flavorful versions of common dishes that I have ever had. Good prices and in a good area of town with more to see and do nearby. Has its own free parking lot.

William W.

Yelp
After I had a disappointing meal at Wasabi Sushi on Thursday night, I decided to come back here with my wife and son. Another wonderful meal from start to finish. Our appetizers were gyoza, tiger shrimp tempura and dynamite rock shrimp. Oh so good! Next came California, tempura, spider and spice girls rolls. Again oh so good. These folks are really into quality food and great service. Cannot recommend it more highly.
