Tiny izakaya offering prix fixe Japanese menus, à la carte dining & vinyl playlists.
"Dinner here is a unique experience that, unlike many other unique experiences in NYC, doesn’t feel frivolous or outrageously expensive for what it is. Here’s how it works: You make a reservation in advance, head to a basement in the West Village, pick a song for them to play on the house record player while you eat, and proceed to enjoy a seven-course meal of Japanese snacks for $50. The room is small, so everyone will be able to appreciate your hair (and taste in music) up close." - hannah albertine
"Tokyo Record Bar and Niche Niche are collaborating on a bunch of daily-changing specials, so make sure to check their Instagram page for details. They’re also selling their inventory of sake and Champagne. It’s only available for pick-up right now, and you can schedule yours on Resy." - hannah albertine
"What It Is: A restaurant in a basement where you eat a seven-course menu and listen to vinyl Perfect For: Date Night, Dinner With The Parents, Unique Dining Experience We’ve been wanting to check out Tokyo Record Bar since we first heard about it. It’s a tiny restaurant/bar in a basement where you pick a few songs that you’d like to listen to (on vinyl), then eat a seven-course tasting menu. We finally stopped by the other night, and we weren’t disappointed. It was almost like interactive theater, with all 20-odd diners helping to build the playlist. The food itself isn’t mind-blowing, although some of it is very good, and, at $50 for seven courses, it feels like a good deal. Go ahead and make this your new fifth date spot, or keep it in mind for whenever you might have friends visiting. The Verdict: An excellent new option for a fun and different dinner experience. We’ve added it to the Hit List." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, katherine lewin, hillary reinsberg, chris stang, matt tervooren
"A meal at Tokyo Record Bar is only partially about the food. Mostly, you come for the experience. There are several seatings here every night, and the first thing you do when you sit down is help pick the playlist. Everything is on vinyl, and you’ll get to choose a song that you want to hear. Then, a seven-course tasting menu will begin, and you’ll eat some izakaya-type food while you (and roughly 20 other people) listen to a collaborative playlist in a small basement on MacDougal Street." - bryan kim, neha talreja, hannah albertine, molly fitzpatrick
"Delivery and takeout available - call or order food and drinks here." - hannah albertine, nikko duren, bryan kim, arden shore, matt tervooren
