"They've got a 30-year history and a reputation for dishing out one of the best plates of sambal stingray. The hawker only serves the meatiest parts of the ray." - Alethea Tan

Had a craving for sambal stingray so I decided to jio my friends to this place. While their prices are relatively low compared to the market today, it is also reflected in their food. This is a place where you might want to get the familiar flavours at a low cost, but I would pay the premium for something enjoyable.

Been back at Tokyo BBQ many times even though I stay in the east. All the bbq seafood and vegetables here are good! I especially liked the oyster omelette(蚝蛋 hao dan)and sambal sotong which are perennial favourites. The eggs in the oyster omelette are soft and fluffy, cooked to perfection with the oyster. Remember not to miss the sambal sotong, my friends and I often order two servings of it, it is that good. The clams lala are standard one size and taste really good! Sambal stingray is a staple at bbq seafood and not to be missed. Do come early to order the small threadfish (ngor her soon) as it often gets sold out early - the ngor he soon taste milky sweet and has little bones. Not forgetting to mention the vegetables Nai Bai and sambal kangkong which are fresh and crunchy, perfect dishes to balance out the other seafood dishes.

Had the BBQ stingray (smallest $16) as recommended by others. I find it to be 1 of the better ones in the west, it used to be the stall at Clementi central but it closed. Portion was decent, price is ok. Would come back again if I have craving.

The sotong and stingray were not bad and had quite generous portions. Sambal was quite fragrant and tasty but a lot of sambal was given.

Had been eating here for about 10 years already. Last ate again in Feb 2022. I find this place under-rated and under-appreciated. It's a great place to enjoy bbq seafood with unique taste and good value. My default dish is always the oyster omelette, served on a hot plate with big juicy oysters and topped with sesame seeds imparting great flavour. Their sambal is very fresh and unique, and goes well with many of their ingredients. I enjoy it with their stingray or kangkong, and the hotplate sambal bbq squid is definite must try. On an unusual note, they also sell bittergourd fish head soup, which was really good too. The umami soup is a great complement for the bbq meal. The aunties running the store are really friendly and happy to have a chat with you too. Overall I find the wait time to be average, portion/value to be good (except for the sambal stingray, which seem a tad smaller than average), and taste to be exceptional. I will travel all the way from the East just to eat here.

awesome bbq seafood unlike other. the sambal chilli used on the bbq seafood seems like their own recipe, so it results in their dishes having a distinct flavor they can call their own. bbq squid is also not like those elsewhere which make you feel cheated due to an onion overdose. they use the whole squid btw. hope to be back to try other items on their menu.

Dunno why so many people rave about this stall.. the portions are smaller than the price paid and the chilli paste is below par.. had the stingray and the taste was meh!.. the chilli tasted sour and not spicy, and no chilli kick. The prices are above other stalls in other hawker centers, $12 small, $16 medium , n the medium size here is like just a bit larger small in other stalls.. compared to the fish grills in Taman Jurong and boon lay hawker centers, their portions are larger, chilli tastier and the price are lower, not to mention they cook and serve faster than this stall.. the menu prices are "outdated" according to the lady, so she's quotes prices not seen on the stall menu..hmmmm... Anyway, I'll not patronise this stall again, as i can get better tasting/portions and better value bbq seafood in the above-mentioned hawker centers..

Really good bbq seafood in the neighbourhood. Although the chili sauce lacks a bit of oomph, it’s fairly tasty. What’s really good is the selection of ingredients. The sotong used is large and cooked just right, perfect texture. the stingrays is also well cooked. for other reviews complaining about price, try go market and buy stingray for yourself. Get a real sensing of the real market price now. not a cheap meal here but for the quality of the ingredients used, it’s value for money
