Best Hibachi Restaurants in Austin | Eater Austin

"This giant Round Rock steakhouse (complete with a Godzilla logo) offers all the usual hibachi suspects – chicken, shrimp, and salmon – but also includes several different cuts of beef and a plethora of protein permutations. There’s also an extensive sushi menu." - Darcie Duttweiler

Great place for a tapan party or to just sit in a booth and enjoy a fabulously delicious meal. I had a Texas Roll, good but expected more bite to it, I ordered the steak and scallop . The salad and fried rice sides were good portions and excellent, the steak and scallops were very good and the scallops were Big and plentiful! very delicious!

Tokyo Steak House and Sushi Bar Review Tokyo Steak House and Sushi Bar offers a fun dining experience with great-tasting food and generous portions. The service is generally attentive, ensuring your meal goes smoothly. However, the host was more interested in their phone than acknowledging departing customers, which left a less-than-positive impression. While the food is satisfying enough to bring me back, the ambiance and decor, including the tableware, feel outdated and could use a refresh. Also, be prepared to leave with a lingering smoky BBQ scent on your clothes, as the ventilation could be improved. Overall, it’s a decent spot for a meal, but some updates and better attention to customer service would elevate the experience.

It was a fun time, the food was good, and the chef must have been new. Show net next table over was way better than the chef we have. Still was worth the visit

Google
Lovely impromptu hibachi lunch at Tokyo Steakhouse House in La Frontera. We were seated quickly and enjoyed the hibachi skills of our chef. We also ordered a sushi roll which was fresh and well-prepared. This is definitely not as upscale as Benihana but still a great, affordable option the whole family will enjoy. We saw many birthdays and special occasion tables throughout. Fun, family restaurant with delicious food.

Google
The most delicious habachi experience I’ve ever had! No joke! The soup, salad, and main course were all top notch. Each dish was so tasty. Our server was so kind and great with my toddlers.

Google
I had the hibachi on 02/28/2025. The food was good and the hibachi cooking very entertaining and fun! However, the prices are little high and service was a somewhat slow. Nonetheless it was a fun experience and I would return.

Google
I just would like to say that we had a great meal at Tokyo steakhouse. We were seated immediately and the onion soup was great. Normally at hibachi I don’t eat the salad or the soup but here I enjoyed both the soup and the salad was great. I really like the way the salad is served in a chilled bowl. Our chef was hilarious and the food was seasoned well and just so good. We sat next to a great family! The entire experience was really great!

Yelp
Tokyo Steak House is a wonderful place to celebrate special moments. It appears to resemble Benihana restaurant setup, but a bit more affordable. We celebrated my daughter's 32nd birthday. But since she was not available, we dined in her honor. I read the reviews and determined that folks either have a "Loved it" or Hated it" experience. (Yet I notice restaurant management always replied to the negative comments). From 5 stars - 1 stars. I couldn't decide, so I went with the opinions of my fellow "Elites". Most of them had a 4-5 star experience. When we arrived at least three of the teppanyaki grills were already occupied. We wound up dinning at our own grill, with no other guests. I've eaten at Benihana restaurants before and always had a full table, so this was a bit definitely different. I've always enjoyed the fellowship of strangers over a good meal. We both order Sirloin Steak combo meals. My wife ordered Sirloin Steak and Chicken. I ordered Steak and Salmon. Our Chef arrived and started the show. I've already seen it performed at two other tables, so I knew the drill. Yet our guy was very enthusiastic about his performance. But his true skills were revealed in his cooking. Watching him prepare the meals was poetry in motion. Both steaks were seasoned well. Cooked as requested and quite juicy. Lots of butter and what ever "secret sauce" is in the red mystery bottle. My salmon was nice and tender, with a slight crust on the outside. Just the way I like it (how did he know???) While watching him cook, I thought for sure it would be over cooked, yet I hesitated to comment. Glad I did, as it was prepared perfectly. Overall service was outstanding! Delicious food. Price reflected the quality we enjoyed. My dining experience was fulfilled. Come celebrate your next event at Tokyo Steak House. They have plenty of steel teppanyaki grills. There are also tables to just enjoy the meal, without the show, although at some tables you might get a partial view. It's a great affordable way to enjoy Asian cooking that isn't takeout. Come and enjoy the fun. Michael C. - Georgetown, Tx.

Yelp
Restaurant located in the La Frontera area. Lots of parking available and a very quick wait time for hibachi when we visited. Hibachi was good, typical. The shrimp tempura sushi roll is my favorite! Idk what it is but it's bigger and tastes better than when I order it from other restaurants. Only thing I disliked is that this hibachi place didn't offer yum yum sauce. I saw on another review (after visiting) that they have for an extra price, but no one even offered or mentioned it when dining in. Other than that, food and service were great.

Yelp
Tokyo Steak House has teppanyaki, sushi and bento boxes so everyone is sure to find something to enjoy. On a Friday night I got the shrimp tempura bento box. In the restaurant you're able to see the teppanyaki tables and catch a glimpse of the show even if you aren't sat there. The service was friendly and quick. Everything was excellent quality making it a great spot for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Awesome food! Highly recommended. Been here a few times and they have the best salad and Japanese rib eye steak.

Yelp
The ragoons were fine but a bit dry. We got the volcano roll and snow crab. Both reminded me of grocery store sushi. It's fine, nothing to write home about. Both rolls were drenched in mayo so that's really all you can taste. I also got the mochi, it was probably just store brand- good but not worth 5$ for 2 pieces. Overall for the price I'm sure there's better sushi places.

Yelp
Well, let's try this the second time I think I added too many pictures and videos and it got stuck in my phone and when I had to shut the phone off I lost the review!!!! Anyway, my daughter had decided to have a small gathering in memory of her son who passed away December 2022, and whose birthday was St. Patrick's Day. She made reservations and determined that a Teppanyaki table accommodated 10 people. It ended up being perfect for our group. I have been here many times as it's an absolute all-time favorite of all of our grandchildren so we celebrated many birthdays through the years ,here . The hubster is not fond of it as he feels like it's expensive, but he does not take him into consideration that you're getting a show with your meal !! Part of it is that he doesn't eat rice and he's not fond of the Teppanyaki style cooking!!! Now for the positive there is another menu available and it offers sushi that is good quality so that's what he orders when we go there. My daughters 86-year-old mother-in-law also ordered off the menu and had a appetizer of coconut shrimp with a green salad and their delicious ginger dressing and she was very satisfied with her meal.. That left eight of us that decided to have Teppanyaki, and once the staff took our protein orders ranging from lobster to steak, shrimp and chicken--we all were excited as our our talented chef arrived at the griddle . During the initial part of the show, (when there's lots of fire) out server was delivering bowls of hot broth and iceberg lettuce salad with that delicious ginger dressing they make !!! Those come along with all Teppanyaki meals. Leaving some pictures and videos below so you can see part of our show Our heavenly grandson used to love coming to Tokyo steakhouse for the show and for the food!!! I can't even tell you how many bowls of fried rice he would eat! All of our meals were good and proteins were prepared and we received exactly what we ordered. Stack of griddled vegetables was also cooked along with a huge mountain of fried rice. Complete with all the yummy things that go in it, especially eggs. We enjoyed the show. We all had great memories to share. If you do have a birthday in your party, there is a special celebration where some of the staff come over with Japanese drums and sing, happy birthday and present you with a complementary dessert. I had visited with our chef a little bit and determined that he had three years of training before he was able to come out in front of a griddle that contained paying guests . We all had a good time, the food was good if a little pricey, and the atmosphere is a lot of fun. Try it for a special occasion we think you'll enjoy it!

Yelp
Lots of entertainment for our young grandchildren. Food is very good. Steak, chicken, shrimp. Serving sizes are big, plenty to take home.

Yelp
Decent experience, not as nice inside as similar style restaurants. Got the hibachi experience but they charge extra for yum yum sauce and fried rice. Not the best not the worst.

Yelp
Consistently fresh and delicious food. Love the sushi, bento boxes, and more. Very generous portions.

Yelp
Silent footsteps guide me through the threshold of Tokyo Steak House, where anticipation hangs in the air like a stealthy mist. I take my place around the long, flat grill, ready to witness the mastery of a chef, honed through years of disciplined training. The blade and spatula become extensions of his being, transforming the art of cooking into a mesmerizing display of skill. With swift precision, he crafts a fried rice heart, while his hands dance in a graceful ballet, juggling an egg with utmost control. Shrimp pieces soar through the air, flung towards open mouths, a testament to his aim and daring. And behold, an onion becomes a volcano train, spewing forth its fiery essence, captivating the senses. But let it be known that Tokyo Steak House is more than mere theatrics. It harbors secrets beyond the realm of the grill. Did you know there is a sushi bar within these hallowed walls? A haven where the delicate artistry of sushi unfolds, a symphony of flavors and textures that transport you to the depths of culinary excellence. And for those seeking respite, a regular bar also awaits, offering libations to soothe the weary soul. As a shadow in the night, I have frequented this establishment countless times, each visit leaving me satisfied and content. Never have I encountered disappointment in its halls. The fusion of spectacle and gastronomy weaves a tapestry of delight, ensnaring the senses and leaving a lasting impression. So, my fellow seekers of culinary adventures, venture forth into the realm of Tokyo Steak House & Sushi Bar. Embrace the theatrics, savor the delicate offerings of the sushi bar, and find solace in the embrace of their liquors and beers. Let your senses be enthralled and your palate be captivated. For in this haven, culinary excellence intertwines with artistry, offering an experience that will linger in your memory like the whisper of a ninja's blade.

Yelp
Our cook was amazing. He really put on a show. I've ate at different hibachi grills but by far his performance has been above everyone else. The food turned out delicious! Price was decent. The ambiance is big enough for events. Everyone we spoke with was very happy and friendly. We will be returning.

Yelp
Great hibachi experience! Friendly staff and chef was great! Ambiance was nice and quiet at the time we went so it was enjoyable. The food was great!

Yelp
Very delicious and reasonably priced. Good tasting food and very friendly staff. Great place for a birthday or large group
google avatar

Sandy G.

Yelp
It is a fun place to eat. I can only speak about the teppanyaki style eating. We've gone for my son's birthday and daughter's birthday. The food has good flavor. I think it is a great way to celebrate a special event.

Yelp
This is a great hibachi restaurant. We've eaten here a couple of times. The food is better than most hibachi restaurants, they season it well. The staff are all extremely nice and the chefs put on a great show. Our kids love it. The prices are reasonable as well. Get the vegetable tempura appetizer. It's yummy and big enough to share. Steak, chicken and shrimp entrees are all delicous too. I wish they would bottle and sell their ginger salad dressing. The flavor is fantastic. Be sure to make a reservation on the weekend evenings, as they do tend to get super busy. If it's your birthday, they bring you a free sundae with a candle and sing to you. Super fun and just the right amount of cheesy.

Yelp
The hibachi is a fun experience. Great for kids birthdays & special occasions. Sushi is good, but the must have is the fried rice.

Yelp
Tasty...tasty and more delicious. I had the king filet mignon and wow was this oh so good. My wife and I went to eat for our anniversary and enjoyed ourself. The chef was fun cool and had some nice tricks up his sleeve when it came to hibachi. The chefs little baby on one of his tools was so funny and had everyone laughing. My wife also got $2 saki shots and oh boy was she having fun after throwing a few of those back. 5 star experience all the way through!

Andrea F.

Yelp
Worst service, didn't even get to order anything. Lady was so rude we just paid for our drinks and left and she assumed that it was because we couldn't afford it. It was our first and last time coming here.
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
This place is really good. Not the most romantic place to bring someone however the food is good and the chefs are entertaining. I got the hibachi steak and chicken and it was amazing. Didn't buy any drinks but they have a good selection. Service was good. I'd come back. Sushi wasn't bad either. I got the rainbow sushi.

Yelp
First time visiting- saw a birthday coupon ($15 discount) in the weekly mail flyer and thought I'd give it a try. It is a large venue, with the Teppanyaki theatrics more suitable for a bigger celebration than just my son and me. We asked to be seated at a regular table and our attentive server came right away taking our drink and appetizer order. The food arrived very quickly, which was impressive considering how crowded the dining room was. The calamari rings were a bit soggy but tasty and the portion was generous. The dinner entree portions, however, were somewhat small compared to other places; perhaps that is how they cover the overhead for the showcase grills. All the food was hot and tasty - I had hibachi chicken and my son had noodles with chicken. I would rate them higher if the entree portions were a bit larger and the prices a bit smaller. Even with the coupon, our bill was higher than a typical night out for us. We may come back to try the sushi (with a coupon!). Side note for parents of very young children- this might not be the best choice for your family night out. It is dark and noisy (think flying knives and boisterous, cheering adults), and several of the toddler and infant guests were clearly unhappy.

Carol A.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the meal! The chef was amazing and she had a good sense of humor, Yay! We will be back.

Brianna C.

Yelp
DO NOT EAT HERE! The service was terrible from the start. We had to keep asking for things, like plates after our appetizer was brought in out on one small plate. That's not even the worst of it...to top it off the food made me violently ill after about 5/6 hours from eating dinner. Worst $80 spent in my life.

Kate D.

Yelp
The food was not good. The steak was overcooked and the chicken was chewy. When I tried to explain that to them, they just said ok. It was definitely a waste of money and we will not be returning. Kobe in Austin is much better.

Yelp
Service, food, and presentation are all great. Wait staff is very quick to get orders out and the show is always fun to watch. Highly recommend.

Michael W.

Yelp
I went here for a party. I really didn't know what to expect. I had a great time, the food was good and the atmosphere was festive. The kids love this place. They were throwing food in the kids mouth. There were 24 people in our party, and I thought it would take forever, but once they started, it went fast. I'm not a sushi person, but the food was good. It did take a little bit to get all the food because they cooked each item separately. The rice, vegetables, proteins, ect, but I want to go again.

Annie S.

Yelp
Good was delicious. Overpriced. Very dissatisfied we had three meals to take home and they brought boxes and then took all 3 meals away and we got nothing . Jerk move.
google avatar

Yelp
I will admit I was little skeptical about this place because of some of the reviews but I'm so happy i tried the service was absolutely incredible. I was there for a table of two on a Friday night without a reservation and I got sat it right away, the ambience is cool, but it does get a little bit loud. Maybe that was just because of a Friday night though the food was absolutely incredible is the best hibachi I've had in a long, long time the chef was absolutely incredible, he made 8 strangers feel like they know each other feel like best friend, he was able to move the crowd, I wish I knew the chefs name so I could ask that he get the raise. he deserves it. I'll be coming back very very soon. Hungry for more.

We had a really nice experience here. Food was great and service was on point. Definitely recommend

Yelp
Show up at 4:30pm to an empty parking lot & thought it was closed for a minute. Hostess asks how many..4, but my daughter was in a separate vehicle parking in the EMPTY parking lot. It gets better. I ask since they're not serving a single person, can we atleast get a beverage at the bar while we wait to be seated in an EMPTY restaurant? Manager comes out, with menus & proceeds to seat us at a hibachi table since my daughter showed up (thank God!) she ushers us to the left side of the grill though with menus. I had my 9 year old grandson who likes to sit in the middle of the grill so I said hey move over here. She looks up and actually says "can't sit in the middle, more people will come in". What?! What people?!! I even looked around in amazement at the gesture; I thought it was a joke honestly I had had enough. I was fuming so I said you know what Nevermind. We'll go somewhere else. And left..leaving behind that EMPTY parking lot! Drove over to Firebowl Cafe across from Kohl's..next to Chipotle. (Better food & faster!!) ..just miss this place you'll be more satisfied anywhere else..and I mean ANYWHERE! Surprised they're still open.

K S.

Yelp
My husband and I had lunch here today and it was great! The food was delicious and plentiful, highly recommend the fried rice, noodles, steak and shrimp. The dipping sauces were super tasty. We will definitely go back soon.

Edna L.

Yelp
Visited with a group from work on Wednesday for lunch. Every one of us became sick as soon as we left. We can't even pin point on what could've made us sick. I've been sick for 4 days, can't keep anything down.

Yelp
The service at this restaurant was great! We attended Tokyo steakhouse for a birthday last week and we have a wonderful time. They food was very good and well prepared. I highly recommend checking this place out

Yelp
I would definitely recommend going in or have the sushi during lunch time instead of dining in at night. I was so happy that after some time, my family could try out this place. I ordered all the same things when I did with delivery, some other rolls, and the big boat option. It was very busy inside so the wait and the food took way longer than I expected, the fish cuts were small and the overall dish(es) looked sad; seems to me that they served the tail end of the salmon where it has no fat/marbles, very chewy, and a plain dark orange color. I'm quite disappointed that it is so different compared to my past experience. Rice was not cooked perfectly, sauce was just okay since it tastes good but it didn't fill in the mouth with flavors like it used to do. Unfortunately, with this experience, it now has equal quality compared to other sushi places, not good but not too bad. However, it was quite an embarrassing experience having to reconvince the family members that this place is REALLY good. I'll just stick with ordering them through delivery now, lol.

Robert L.

Yelp
Stars.... Can I not? Save yourselves! A romantic dinner at Panda Express will give you way more satisfaction than what we just experienced. I am all for working with a new waiter, Ive been known to challenge them just a bit but in a joking manner just to break up the awkwardness of being new. This poor poor soul could have been cracked with a bbq brush. Today was his first day and he was all by himself, trying to interpret a new menu which resulted in the food coming to the table giving me the impression I was on MTVs Punk'd. Ordered the steak fried rice and got a side of rice with vegetables and meat, no biggie, just let him know it wasnt right and back to the drawing board. Round 2 was a miss with half the table eating and the other half waiting for them to throw everything into one pan like they should have the first time. 2.4 hours later, ass falling asleep on the bench, bill comes and Im wondering if this is Benihana, or P.F. Changs? Or is this Las Vegas and Im back at Mr. Chows or the $90 per person buffet? Wait, no, im at Tokyo, wishing it was 1996 again and I was at the mall ordering Chinese food from some teenager who is just tryjng to make enough to buy a skateboard or roll one. Or both? Moral of the story, please, dont subject your family or bank account to this.

Yelp
All but great things about this amazing restaurant. Oh my good parking, delicious food, well served, there is just everything for everyone. The rice is exceptional, sashimi is outstanding and fresh, they have and orange or green tea both are good. Good customer service. Always my go to place.

Yelp
The food is good , it comes in medium sized portions?? California Roll is addicting The fire show thing is super scary The service is good bc it's fast and the staff is nice. The place is okay The bathroom is rusty though. 4.7/10

Yelp
Went here for my fiancé's birthday dinner and made a reservation a day before arriving for 7:30pm. Showed up found parking no problems there at all. Got inside around 7:25pm and informed them we had a reservation and was told to wait about 20 min or so. Wasn't too happy about that but I waited nonetheless. Was seated with a family for hibachi, waitress was nice but very busy manning multiple tables it seemed. They did a lot for the birthdays there and it was a enjoyable, food was amazing per usual, ordered sushi made fresh as always. Did take a while for the check to get taken I ended up going to the front and asking if I could pay there instead of waiting on the waitress.

T M.

Yelp
Food excellent like always but its false advertised on the menus Kids Hibachi Shrimp $14 (menu) they charge us $17 Hibachi Chicken $20(menu) my bill was $23 we like the food but at least change the menus prices or explain before order

Jerry C.

Yelp
Food was mediocre at best. The lobster tail was ruined by the sauce that was applied. Service was poor. We had to keep catching the server when we could get her attention to refill our drinks. When we got the bill, we were charged for a glass of wine that we had returned because my wife did not like it. We were also charged a gratuity which was at the highest level offered on the bill. I thought that a gratuity was something that the customer chose to give and decided how much to give, and not the restaurant. Ambiance was more like a cattle barn than a restaurant. Floors were bare concrete. Tables were, again, lined up like stalls in a feeding barn for cattle.
google avatar

Jon Mark A.

Yelp
all these 4 and 5 star reviews must have included a large amount of sake. this food is NOT worth ordering and i will not go back. check the photos for additional details. "filet" was WAY overcooked and probably sirloin or another lesser cut. the gyoza app looked like someone left the wrappers out in the texas heat for about 3 weeks and then tried to make it work... terrible.
google avatar

Cece H.

Yelp
I stopped by here cause I really wanted some Asian food. I had the teriyaki salmon hibachi meal. It came with the onion soup and salad. I didn't really care for the soup or the salad. I ordered some egg rolls as well which were okay. The only thing I really liked was the salmon and the grilled veggies. My waitress was really nice and attentive. It was pretty busy but the food came out pretty fast.
google avatar

Chamie S.

Yelp
Good food everytime I've been here. Fried rice from the habachi is my favorite!!!!!!!

Christy W.

Yelp
Sirloin steak, hibachi Uber eats takeout. Super Impressive. Will definitely order again.
google avatar

Ambreen D.

Yelp
Check them out for an enjoyable large group experience! Staff was friendly and accommodating, which was nice especially for someone with certain food allergies. Pricing is fair and portion size plenty. one of our group members walked in intending to get sushi, saw the portion sizes of the hibachi and changed his mind. I got the hibachi teriyaki chicken, which was more flavorful and juicier than I was expecting, and the filet mignon was pretty decent as well. The environment was also loud and busy, which was expected, as we came in on a weekend, but it seemed to add to the energy of the place.
google avatar

Terri J.

Yelp
This is a really fun place to go with a group especially if you sit with the Teppan Yaki chefs. They really put on a show sometimes tossing yummmies at your face for you to catch in your mouth. If you go with a friend or as a couple you will sit with some other people you don't know. Still fun, but I'm not as big of a fan of sitting with strangers. The sushi chef section is also very good for a quieter more traditional dining experience. The sushi is delicious. Many vegetarian options are available.

Brandon B.

Yelp
I wanted this place to be better but food is super salty, service needs a little support. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Great time for my stepsons 10th birthday. He felt so special. Service was great and food was good.

Yelp
You guys get zero stars from me, on account of the fact that we had to wait OVER AN HOUR to be seated. I truly did want to eat at ur establishment. I actually called and made a 8pm reservation several hours prior. I walked in 10 minutes early for our reservation, a pond arriving the hostess said it would be a 20 min wait. My 2 kids were literally falling asleep in the waiting area. I checked w/ hostess 40 min into our wait, and she said we were next. Finally my senior citizen mother who was w/ me went to ask the host again when she would be seating us by this point he had been waiting just over an hour. The host never called us to be seated, or even explained what and why we ended up waiting so long. When my mom went to check she told her our table was ready and that she ( hostess ) was calling me. My phone never rang, and I double checked w/ the hostess to make sure she had the correct number. Either why at that point I was done waiting and so was my family. So we left.
