This museum is beautiful & all of the art there is as well. I love how knowledgeable the staff there is, how everything is set up & the fact that they have interactive activities for the whole family, especially the kids. If you like art, like learning about new things, & don't mind walking I would recommend you to go check it out.

Google
We really enjoyed the glass collection, so many beautiful pieces! Loved the jewelry collection too. Will definitely come again when we're in the area. Really appreciated the free admission and parking too! Very friendly staff.

Google
It is not a mega size art museum, but has enough good exhibits and master pieces covering a long period of human history; you can easily spend half day without getting bored! Highly recommended! And free admission too. The Museum cafe is neat and convenient if you are up for a bite.

Google
I have no reservations about recommending the Toledo Museum of Art! The galleries are stunning, both in their architecture and in their collections. This high quality museum hosts exhibitions continually throughout the year, and they are always worth it! General admission is free, and parking is affordable (free for UT students). It’s easy if you just want to go for an hour or spend a half day getting lost in the maze of sculptures and paintings. Don’t miss the exterior sculpture garden and the glass pavilion!

Google
A really great sculpture garden, uncrowded and with nice botanical settings. The bulldibg is spacious and has gems by sone European artists but not so many by any individual were on display.

Google
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! I've only been there once and already can't wait to go back! All different types and sizes and colors and feelings and just everything! I walked into the gigantic red room with the piano and my jaw hit the ground! I was literally breath taken!! If you've never gone, I highly highly suggest it! Ohh, and I was told they rotate the art with other museums so there's fresh art every few months! I can't wait to go back!!

Google
Very large with a wide array of exhibits. Great to visit if you are a fan of art or are just looking for something to do. Very welcoming atmosphere. Interactive exhibits in selective areas. Do not get too close to the art or an automated message will tell you to step away. I enjoyed the insects and amphibian area. This is probably not a great place for younger children unless they are extremely well behaved and under control. Gift shop is full of high class art from local artists with high class pricetags. This is an excellent free activity for adults of all ages. Free shaded parking!!! There are outdoor art pieces as well. Be sure to go across the street to the Glass Pavillion to appreciate beautiful glass work for free as well.

Google
This quiet and stately museum brings world-class special exhibits to its uncrowded doors—Caravaggio in 2024 and now the “Rachel Ruysch: Nature into Art” show. I highly recommend “The Original Sub Shop & Deli” at 402 Broadway St. for lunch. For those of us living in the Cleveland area, it’s a can’t miss day trip.

Yelp
A beautiful museum, both in terms of design and the art within. They've thought things through, including offering umbrellas at the front (as you park in the back and surrender your umbrella at the door) so you can use one while crossing the street to the glass pavilion. I visited the glass pavilion while it was under rennovation so I did not get the maxium impact, but I was able to see some galleries. Free & easy parking, free to visit, $10 to see special exhibit.

Yelp
A Toledo treasure and one of the best in the country. Went on a Sunday afternoon and it's free admission. The glass museum is outstanding. They also have a very nice cafe you should try.

Yelp
10/10. Came here with my littles and we ended up spending the whole morning here. There's a cute kids area with free play plus a nice cafe with pretty tasty food.

Yelp
My family thoroughly enjoyed themselves for a few hours while we were exploring the Toledo Museum of Art. The Museum is rather large with expansive selections of art including ancient, early medieval, late medieval, renaissance era, as well as modern art. There is also a separate glass pavilion across the street which is very interesting. Please see my separate review of the glass pavilion for details. Just take a look at the pictures I took of some of the artwork found in the museum. It is just wonderful to lose yourself in history but in beauty. That is the power of art!
google avatar

Yelp
A beautiful art museum incredibly curated with modern and ancient pieces to enjoy. There is easy parking with accessible entrances and elevators, friendly staff, and clean modern restrooms with changing tables (even in the men's room, because yes men do change diapers). I had a lovely visit and will definitely be back to explore more!

Yelp
Another excellent visit filled with amazing art and history. Today was the pride tour featuring lgbtq artists. Loved it!

Yelp
What an amazing art museum and FREE! I've been here before but am really looking forward to the membership benefits this time around! The museum itself has amazing pieces and great architecture throughout! They way they redesigned some rooms to make you feel like you traveled back in time was such an amazing experience and really captivates you about the history and art. I'll be taking everyone who comes and visits, here!

Yelp
I wanted to visit this museum while in town. And I expected maybe a little bit more. They had some cool pictures to see, but overall it was pretty cool. The staff was nice and very friendly.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
Still a magnificent museum. I'm so happy that i moved close by so I can take advantage of all the events that occur during the year!

Yelp
A GEM of a museum. This cultural icon of Toledo never ceases to amaze me. A great collection of Classics all the way to Modern. This is one stop NOT to be missed.

Yelp
I have visited the TMoA at least 5 times and it is a different experience every time and I love that. When you walk in you are greeted by the nicest people. My daughter loves this place.

Yelp
While stopping in Toledo for the day, I was looking for various things to do and make a day of it. We found the TMA and loved that it was free to the public (no entrance fee). You just have to pay $10 for parking. It was only a couple levels of various galleries but we enjoyed walking around. There were so many interesting pieces including "the Thinker". I really appreciated walking around and seeing the art. The giant monkey balloon art was a fun piece. I would definitely recommend going if you're interested in a couple hours of fun.

Yelp
I've had this place on my short list for years since I moved back to Michigan, but was always doing something else and never had the time to squeeze it in. Factor in the pandemic and all that jazz, I finally made it down to see what it's all about. I was very happy with my experience! Pulling up, it really is the spitting image of the DIA from the outside. Limestone building with a nice collection of of garden sculptures that I looked at even in the cooler weather. While the museum is free even for us out of state folks, parking isn't. It's an $8 fee which is reasonable. I was able to pull into a covered spot and it was close to the entrance which was awesome! They also have EV parking here, which I love. I guess you pay the $8 parking fee when you arrive into the check in area which is nice, and show the stub to the attendant when you leave. Fair enough. The museum is mostly on the second floor. I was going to dock a star for this but passed because I can't be to hard on an art museum and all. But, there was no maps of the place either offered to me or at the counter. It wasn't until later I realized I could scan a QR code to download one to my phone, but between pictures and instagram, I found that to be a total waste and would have rather have had a map in hand. Plus, I'm sometimes bad about charging my phone, so that's an issue as well. Anyway, the museum itself I found out is mostly upstairs. They have a great collection of such nice art here! Paintings from all sorts of artists, sculptures, furniture, and so much more. It was a lot of paintings, and I loved seeing so many from different eras and parts of the world. Even monet! YES. There was a beautiful collection of what seemed like Italian era stuff. Pillars, stained glass, you felt like you were walking into Rome 1000 years ago. Loved it. Staff here is fabulous and knowledgeable, and really helpful. Also, if you walk across the street, there's a small but eclectic glass collection they have going on. Absolutely fabulous. It's not huge by any stretch of the imagination, maybe 30 minutes tops, one level. It's free, of course, but very beautiful to look at. I know Toledo is Toledo, but this is one of their shining parts of the city. It's really worth the quarter tank of gas to drive down here and check it out. Grab lunch while you're here, and you'll thank me later!
google avatar

Yelp
While the museum was free, they issued tickets to everyone anyway for some reason (felt to me like maybe they're going to start charging, which would be a sad development). They also had a paid exhibit, and they charged for parking (though walking in from free neighborhood parking was hardly a challenge). In any case, it was a museum worth visiting. Their themes appear to be glass, relating to the history of the region apparently, and Christian monasticism, relating to the name Toledo. It's some of the most impressive glasswork you're ever likely to see, and that's just in the main museum; there is a separate glasshouse across the road where they also do glassblowing demos. The theater had no events when I was there, but looked magnificent. This place wasn't what you'd find in Detroit or Cincinnati, but it was impressive in its own right.
google avatar

Mary F.

Yelp
Wonderful exhibits artfully curated. All the staff members were charming and delightful. My only criticism is the wall colors. Their intensity sometimes overwhelmed the art. And hot spots on most paintings... bad lighting. Only reasons I'm not giving it 5 stars.
google avatar

Morgan C.

Yelp
Been coming to this museum for decades and it never gets old! The museum is free and engaging, the exhibits are well designed, and the atmosphere is open and airy. The museum is quite large and has other offerings like art classes and community galleries and a cafe. Parking is $10.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
What a wonderful art museum! We spent about 3 hours here today and it's got a large diverse beautiful collection of various artworks. Famous paintings, ceramics, some furniture, bronzes, chandeliers, figurines, jewelry - the list goes on. The Museum also has a cafe and the menu looks very good! Oh yea, we will be back.

Yelp
Loved this. It has earned its great reputation as an amazing museum. I can see why everyone I spoke to raved about it and recommended a visit. I was more than impressed and is a definite must visit in Toledo. Parking is $8.00 and was easy in and out with a bunch of covered spots. The museum entrance was free aside from the special exhibit. I highly recommend checking out "The Age of Armor: Treasures from the Higgins Armory Collection at the Worcester Art Museum". It is a $10.00 fee. This made the visit extra special and is something to see. At the exhibit check-in they offer a hand held personal digital audio tour! DO THIS! It is fascinating and you can pick and choose what you want to listen too and fast forward and rewind as needed. You can even touch and try on some replica pieces. I was going to pass on this and glad I didn't. The website says it has 25,000 works of and I believe it. There are more than 35 galleries, that include modern and other types of art, sculptures, glass, and paintings. You can see all the classic favorites like van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, and Rembrandt and countless other artists. At times it seemed like an endless labyrinth of paintings and we spent easily 3-4 hours and not sure we saw it all. There is so much to see. If you need a break, grab a water, or need a bite to eat, I recommend checking out the Museum Cafe. Not to pricy and good food too.

Yelp
This museum was phenomenal. The fact that it is free is just an added bonus! You do have pay $10 for parking, but considering there are no other fees, it is well worth it. The museum itself is beautifully maintained and the art displays are stunning. We were there for around 2 hours, but easily could have stayed longer. Museum staff were friendly and helpful. Cannot recommend enough!

Yelp
One of the best art museums in the world nests itself in downtown Toledo. Modern art, ancient Egyptian treasures, & the best representation of a Rubens painting are some of treasures sprinkled throughout the museum's permanent collection. Outside of the museum's walls sits a sculpture garden. I like to same that for after the museum hours end. If you across the street from the main museum you'll find a glass gallery! Sometimes local artists blow glass for an audience there. A must see in while in Toledo(the glass city). Incidentally the Toledo Museum of art was funded by Edward Drummond Libby who made his fortune in glass. (I also recommend Libby glass) I am also offers classes for young kids to learn are together. I did them as a child and have great memories.

Yelp
What a gem! I was in Toledo for 2 days and had some time to kill one afternoon, so we went to the museum. I cannot believe this place has free admission. The collections are on par with what you'd find in a top tier museum. This is a great resource for Toledo, and I'd encourage anyone in town to visit. The sculpture garden is also a nice walk and a good way to end your museum trip. Overall, we were there easily for 2 hours. They do charge for parking, but we were able to get free parking because my partner is a veteran.

Yelp
Many beautiful aspects! Love Love Love our unique Peristyle and The Cloister ....-and Egyptian area.... Etc etc.

Yelp
I only had enough time to see the modern art side of the museum and oh my goodness. This is one of the more complete museums in the country. If you are in town you have got to come see what they have. They have a little bit of everything! My favorite piece was by Katsuyo Aoki (Trolldom Teku Maku Maya Kon) I am a fan of eccentric and oddities and this one was the best one thus far. Thank you TMOA for having such a unique and interesting piece.
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
It's a giant maze of art from all over the world and from all different eras. The museum often changes out what is on display and always has something on a special exhibit. Looking at the ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artifacts is my favorite section.

Ed M.

Yelp
The line to pay for parking was slow because the older lady ignores people in line while the other is very friendly and helpful and everyone has questions. I found out about the church and went to park there instead, it was free. The cafe was very nice and the museum is amazing. Probably the best thing in Toledo.
google avatar

Yelp
This review is primarily for their theatre/performance space. My husband is a huge fan of the musician Harold Budd so when the TMA announced that he was coming my husband snagged two tickets for us. I'd never been to the museum, let alone this theatre and my goodness is it stunning. The photos don't do it justice. It's beautiful and spacious. It's very close to being a theatre in the round. Acoustics are amazing and the performance was stunning. Concessions during intermission were a nice touch and included beer and wine as well as coffee and baked goods from a local bakery, which I loved. I was a little sluggish that day, at the start of a head cold, so the coffee and brownie I had were a nice little boost to get me perky again during the second half of the show. Staff was fantastic and the folks leading the performance and Q&A were knowledgable and engaging. Signed up for their mailing list and hope to catch another performance here. From our home in Ann Arbor it's a little under an hour to get here which makes it a doable location for music and performance in the future. Looking forward to spending time in the museum to come as well.

Yelp
This here is the review that got away from me last year. I drove down last year to see Yayoi Kusama's delightful but deceptively small special exhibit, my second visit to this museum, and was ready to bang out a four star review, but it seemed like a lot of work and I wanted to nail it with a bunch of artist name drops. Then my friend posts some pics of the TMA on Instagram with new special exhibits AND photos of the glass pavilion across the street, a place I hadn't even known existed! Clearly, this Michigander had to road trip back down to our dreaded neighbor to the South! This Museum is free of charge but parking costs 8 bucks. A great deal, and if you're frugal and know Toledo better than I or local and willing to get in some exercise, admission won't cost you a dime. Fireflies on the water, the Kusama exhibit was extra, but additional fees for special exhibits is common. It's really tiny, too, but mirrors give it an awesome infinity effect. It's selfie city in there and I was not immune. I probably could have dispensed with my mask since it's one, or one small group at a time in there, but I didn't think of that and made it one for the pandemic time capsule. The Judith Schaechter stained glass special exhibit is jaw droppingly good as she updates a venerable aged art form, mixing the sacred and the profane with intricate stained glass work like you've never seen. (Or at least I haven't.) Toledo is Glass City USA and it's satellite building across the street is included with admission and while no amazing destination on it's own is certainly worth a stroll across the street. They've got some decent sculptures outside, too. The main building isn't the largest art gallery, but more than you'd likely expect for a city the size of Toledo. They've got a Picasso and a Van Gogh, too. It was actually Van Gogh that first brought me here when they had a special exhibit of his landscapes nearly twenty years ago. And now two visits in one year! Not bad, northwest Ohio. The DIA is still better, but I had to rate the TMA above the scrappy, underrated art museum up in Flint. And I don't feel like doing any more name drops. I got a couple legends in and if I have to look up pictures of placards next to pieces it feels like cheating anyway.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! I have to say, I was not expecting much from this museum. No offense to Toledo, but driving through the city really made me sad due to all the industrial mining and overall dismal landscape. But man, this museum is certainly a hidden gem and certainly worth the trip!! The museum is very expansive and clean. It seems like it was recently updated, nothing seemed old at all. The exhibits were very enjoyable and well curated. It was enjoyable to walk around and spend the day with my friends here. I felt safe in the museum because it was very clean and mask rules were enforced. The museum was not crowded at all. Everyone we encountered was very knowledgeable and friendly. Especially the attendant that was letting people into the Kusama exhibit, thank you so much Candice- you're awesome and made our visit even better with the wonderful recommendations you gave us. This museum was so great and definitely gives me a reason to visit Toledo again. I'm already planning my next trip!!

Yelp
World-renowned collection; known for having the best of the best. This museum has free admission. Members also receive free parking and discounts on special exhibits and programs - parking for the general public is $8. (Buy your parking pass at the desk in the lower lobby off the rear entrance before leaving the museum) Why you should go: Whether or not you love art, there is something for everyone at this museum. History. Ancient artifacts in Classic Court; Modern art; European art; The Renaissance, Glass, Pottery, Sculpture ... selection is broad without being overwhelming. Don't miss: Alexander Calder "Stegosaurus" at the front entrance on your way to / from the Glass Pavilion; the Libbey Punch bowl in the main museum (this relocates - check with staff for current location); Chuck Close "Alex"; greek amphoras in Classic Court (peek into the concert venue "The Peristyle" while there) and Reuben's "Crowning of Saint Catherine" in the Great Gallery. You will find 5 - 200 items for your own "don't miss" list if you check these off the list and enjoy the experience. The gift shop is also a nice opportunity to browse everything from logo'ed merchandise, books (including books about the museum and collection), fun things for office, jewelry, toys, and original art for sale. Location: 2445 Monroe Street, Toledo Ohio; 1-2 minutes from I-75 and downtown Parking: plentiful but paid ($8 unless you are a member) - 2 primary lots; one across a side street from the Glass Pavilion; the other is the main lot located behind the main museum Food: during specific hours, the museum has a "cafe". Check the website for hours: www.toledomuseum.org As an alternative you can drive 5 minutes toward downtown for some great restaurants as well. (Saturday night? Registry Bistro, Kengo, or The Oliver House) Toledo was known as the "Glass City" long before but this is where the glass arts movement was born - in a building behind the main museum, Harvey Littleton and Dominick Labino with Otto Wittman (a "Monuments Man" from WW2 who came to TMA) created the method that spawned an entire movement. Every modern glass artist has ties to either Mr. Littleton or Mr. Labino. My tips: 1) I always make it a point to enter through the classroom entrance (not marked; it's the bronze trimmed entrance closest to the end of the main parking lot) - walking through the cork-floors and viewing student artwork on the walls makes me feel 8 all over again. Except I have a checking account and a car. 2) Allow a minimum of 2 hours for this museum - and that is just covering the grounds with small pauses to view standouts appealing to you. You will still feel like throwing a temper tantrum to stay another hour - but this is truly the minimum. Ideally, if this is your first visit or a visit that needs to last you awhile - I would suggest devoting the entire day (4-5 hours) 3) Plan your Visit. The museum website: www.toledomuseum.org ... has event listings, including free public tours and special activities like hands-on glass art projects (you will typically have to return to collect your art piece since work needs to cure in a kiln or furnace). Their free public tours are typically given by volunteer docents who train for 18 months on art history and the collection - a real delight (and did I mention it's free?) 4) Love a work of art? Stop by the gift shop - they have post cards of most of the collection available, a fun (and inexpensive) way to take home your favorite thing(s).

Michael T.

Yelp
Yes! Go! They have a very, very nice collection! And it is FREE! You have to pay about $10 to park, but that is all. The staff, especially those at the entrances are so friendly and welcoming too. The museum seems to have a little of something for everyone, so I give the museum high praise!

Yelp
Has lots of entertainment and activities for the whole family practically all year. I really love visiting Our Art Museum

Yelp
Most museums bring back memories from school. A lot of the same inventory I have seen over and over. However, I enjoyed the contemporary section and glass pavilion the most since that was new to me. The sculpture and instillation pieces moved me. I'm impressed that most museums only show 4% of their inventory but Toledo shows close to 10% and one of the best in the nation. I was missing something. The hustle and bustle that it used to be back day but maybe that's what it's like during the summer on a Sunday. They are VERY picky about backpacks and don't usually allow them. Two people stopped me throughout my visit to make sure I was holding it close to my body not to damage something. Kinda ruined it for me since I kept getting bothered about my damn bag. The glass pavilion offers demos every hour and that was amazing to watch up front and personal. Again, no drinks allowed and you have museum staff watching your every move like security guards. Overall, it's a must see of museums and offers culture and beauty in a city that seems to struggle. Parking is $7 but free for members and can be validated at the information desk.
google avatar

Marco L.

Yelp
I was quite surprised by this museum. It was much larger and had a much greater variety of art than I imagined it would. It was not busy when I visited, so my friend and I had a good opportunity to spend as much or as little time on each painting and sculpture as we liked. Great experience. Admission is free. Parking is $8. Great place to go.
google avatar

Nina W.

Yelp
Hey this is one of the best art museums I've visit in a while. It's so roomy and spacious so a lot of people can be there and not be to close to each other. The exhibits were super cool and some interactive shows too. My guy and I really enjoy going and walking around.

Yelp
Toledo has many great things to do or see this is just one of them! Toledo History is all over the world !

Krishtol Krish M.

Yelp
Always a beautiful experience, very pleasant serene environment. This is a place that I like to come to and relax and just enjoy the beauty of art. I always feel like I'm in another dimension when I'm at the art museum. I can't really name a favorite place in the art museum, because I love them all.

Douglas B.

Yelp
Went here for the exhibit "State of the Art" which presented art held in storage requiring restoration. What a great exhibition. It was very informative and interesting. Many different kinds of art in varying stages of restoration. There were explanations on how the restoration will be completed. Definitely worth seeing! The museum is wheelchair accessible and has accessible bathrooms. The parking lot is across the street and has plenty of Handicap Parking. The pathway to the museum from the parking lot is rather strange, you have to go way down the sidewalk to get to the ramp and crosswalk or the other way you end up at a curb cut without a crosswalk. There are door openers at the entrance.

Penwarat S.

Yelp
First time here and this place was incredible collectibles of old art from ancient times. Good for kids and family to enjoying arts and statutes. Free admission only have to pay $8 for parking.

Yelp
A close burger dive right . Pop in yourself and experience this amazing feeling .I'm popped in and believe me it was a wow

Yelp
I love going to museums in general and The Toledo Museum of Art is one of my favorites. We are very fortunate to have such a great collection right here in northwest Ohio.
google avatar

Yelp
We joined the art museum for the benefits for our daughter -- she absolutely loves the art classes. The staff is very friendly.

Yelp
Away a great time to go and reflect and enjoy the arts. There's always something new and exciting

Yelp
Great museum that is very active all year round. Great place to visit if you're in town.

Mike Z.

Yelp
Seniors are free. Parking (normally $8) was free for this US Navy Vet. The staff is incredibly friendly and extremely knowledgeable. This is a wonderland of exploration, not to be missed and definitely a place deserving of sever hours (if not a full day) of your time. AND... Be sure to catch the Glass Blowing Exhibition (2 to 3 PM, most days) across the street from the main museum building. Another "must see" on your list.
google avatar

Ashley O.

Yelp
Coming from Cleveland and having one of the best art museums in the world, I wanted to check out this one while visiting Toledo. It has free admission, which is nice, but parking is $5. There was a lot to see and all was quite impressive. One negative was that the temperature was different in each gallery so in some I was so cold and others really warm. It is also quite a mix from modern to American to you name it. Across the street they have a glass pavilion where they have blown glass on display and they have demos. That was pretty cool to see/watch. Overall great way to spend an afternoon.
google avatar

Billy L.

Yelp
This is one of the finest art museums in the country and it has a very comfortable atmosphere. I read about this on Yelp and decided to give it a try since we were visiting in the Toledo area. It really was quite an adventure and I totally enjoyed it. You can even go across the street to the glass museum where you can see all kinds of demonstrations and actual works of art made out of glass
google avatar

Chelsea D.

Yelp
The museum offers a delicious lunch menu at a reasonable price. The atmosphere and the food are beautiful! It's a great opportunity to try something different to eat and then spend some time enjoying art. Never disappoints.
