"Part gift shop, part bakery, part coffee shop, the Tollgate Inn Bakery and Mercantile sells house-made pastries in a historic and quaint cafe. Look for the white covered wagon outside and sample a strong selection of baked goods, like banana muffins, whole pies, and marionberry bearclaws. The restaurant serves chicken-fried steaks and buttermilk pancakes in the mornings, followed by evening platters of smoked brisket or turkey and stuffing. It’s worth it to bring a whole pie home on the way out." - Levi Rogers

Yelp
Amazing treats Homemade with love Cute place If you have a party, get a cake or pie

Yelp
I'm I'm Going to do wye for you now so I don't have a chance at getting a ride back with you right away and you know what I to get a car so if I can just come back to your apartment and then I'll be home and I don't want the kids driving me around crazy and I'm just gonna go home for a few days so I'm not iowi and I'm going back to sleep This is how writing looks when picking words iPhone suggests. Mediocre but I appreciate the effort. Same for this place

Trish W.

Yelp
The Nanaimo bars are the best!!! and I appreciate no matter what time I stop it seems like they have them available. Great service too!!!

Kathy D.

Yelp
The reception at the main restaurant said I couldn't order a roast turkey sandwich, only BLT or Club with turkey. How odd when they served roadt turkey. No flexibility it appears. So, I went next door to the bakery and luckily Liz helped me. I had a fabulous sandwich and soup of the day. But, the management should be aware their best representative for the Tollgate is Liz. Delightful and efficient. I'll return for future meals here instead of the main restaurant.

Yelp
Purchased a Carrot Cake muffin that was over baked (burned) and dry as a bone - it literally crumbled into a huge mess. There appears to be little quality control in the bakery, which is a shame. They used to have a fairly nice selection, though it's always sadly been aimed at being just a step above grocery store baked goods. This is one of the reasons Sandy is a 'pass through' town for food. All the eateries here (with few exceptions) do the absolute bare minimum and the locals put up with it or quietly drive to Gresham and/or Portland for food that's made with talent and passion. Really disappointing.

Yelp
They make the BEST cakes, any of them. We've tried so many places and Tollgate Bakery beats them all. Great flavor, moist, not too sweet. And they are beautiful. Not like the mass production ones at the grocery stores. It's worth the drive.

Yelp
Very tasty pasty! This was a fun stop and a variant from our usual dessert path, because we wanted to try something new. I attempted to get something for everyone in our family. They have ingredients lists at the counter if you need to know if a dessert contains a specific ingredient. The staff was very helpful. Didn't rush us; they were very patient when we had questions and while making our decision. We got the Key Lime Bar, which my sons both ended up wanting and was the most popular pick in our household. Key lime was creamy custard-like with a graham crust. We got a Lemon Bar, a Marionberry Cream Bar, and a Pecan Apple Fritter. Lemon bars were like "stiff"-jelly atop a shortbread crust. The marionberry was super soft, you can't pick up the bar with your fingers. The top and bottom are crumble like and the marionberry filling still has the seeds. The fritter offered great layers of flavor with pastry when bitten into. All were good but Key Lime was the clear winner to our family. We'll be back to try more of their offerings.

Yelp
Love to come to this place for pastries! They have a nice variety of goodies - muffins, pies, scones, cakes, bars & more! My favorite items are the orange cranberry muffin and the Death by Chocolate cake. They also make really good sandwiches here. They have a box lunch that you can get with a sandwich, side of chips or potato salad, chocolate chip cookie and a drink. I usually get the turkey with almost everything on it and it is a good sized sandwich. The prices are decent here and the employees friendly. It isn't very often that I am in Sandy, but if I am I stop here every time!

Yelp
I am thinking I need to review my regular spots to make sure I haven't overlooked the Yelp reviews!! We come here all the time on the way to or from Mt hood. Now this place also has a great text mailing list that always is offering us for cookies or drinks. Personally I like this place, it's a little bakery, nothing fancy or what you might expect at a French bakery. It's got basic items, great sized, very very cost efficient, and charm. I've gotten just about it all here and each is good in it own right, I'll keep posting photos of what we get as proof!!

Yelp
Some of the best dessert in the whole Portland area. Popped in at night to get some sweets. The girls working there were very nice. Tried the single serve cheesecake cups, the maple apple fritter, the pineapple upside down cake, and the death by chocolate cake. Every single one was delicious.

Yelp
I adore this place. Ive been here and somehow not checked in each time. I'd definitely be duchess if I had lol Clean... typically well stocked cafe and bakery. The cooler has cake, cheesecake, etc. Packaged by the slice or available in a full sized cake... I keep wanting to try the triple chocolate but I haven't yet. However I do often pick up their edible chocolate chip cookie dough. I have to go home immediately and divide it into small containers or else I would eat the entire cup in one sitting and we cannot do that. Lol Then there is a pastry case full of delightful morsels and fresh baked muffins, scones and cinnamon rolls etc.. today there were cannolis, chocolate brownie, neapolitan, a caramel macchiato sandwich cookie creation, and I can't remember what else... look all I have to say is I am truly addicted to their lemon poppyseed muffins. Omg So freaking good. EVERYTIME I drive by I stop to get one. $1.50 each or 4/$5. I tried the strawberry and cream muffin today and well... it was pretty darn good... morsels of fresh strawberry and dollops of creamed cheese...yessss! There are also truffles (including no sugar added and sugar free options) and well I cannot think of what else. Just know it's great. The store is cute with a lot of cute gifty type things. I will be coming here for stocking stuffers... there is also a full menu with sandwiches etc. A full espresso cafe option is here too. I haven't ever tried it but there are a lot of options. Go here... Try it... you'll like it!!!

Lori M.

Yelp
The food is okay. Nothing to write home about. The place is kind of dirty. They always have a sign up looking to hiring for one position or another. I'm guessing it's not a great place to work.

Charlene O.

Yelp
My experience was that they didn't help customers in the order that were in line. They let their friends jump the line and helped them first. Very unfair and poor customer service

Melanie T.

Yelp
They're open until 9 pm weekdays and 10 p.m. weekends! There are so many delicious pastries and baked treats. They make espresso... Any kind you like. Gift shop and eating area is super pleasant. Staff couldn't be any cooler or more friendly

Bob C.

Yelp
Excellent pastries! Fun shop to browse as well. This is where we get every birthday cake for everyone we know!

Yuen L.

Yelp
OMG their pastries here are TO DIE FOR! Seriously everything here is delicious from their marionberry cream bar to their chocolate muffins , you can't do wrong with anythin from the bakery. I'm neither a chocolate nor a muffin person but I ate almost half of one entire chocolate muffin in one go as it was DELICIOUS! Their confectionery are so moist and delightful , but not overly sweet. Their prices are also really reasonable! Love this place!

Connie A.

Yelp
Love love love their baked goods! Cute little gift shop!! They make great sheet cakes! I buy a big one every Christmas eve for my grown daughter's birthday and my husbands as well! Our huge family adores them!

Kenzie H.

Yelp
Great bakery with adorable gift shop. Always changing the treats around so you never know what goodies will be in there. My favorite treat by far is the pumpkin muffins!

Stephen O.

Yelp
Excellent food consistent and the bakery is amazing There peach danish is incredible also their coffee is really good

Lisa G.

Yelp
Handmade everything. Enough said? This is one of the best stops in Sandy: and the locals pour through, because we know it. Great quick spot for soup and a sandwich lunch, handmade desserts of all kinds. Local candy, and candy you can't find anymore: the good stuff of childhood!

Wendy W.

Yelp
Consistently delicious turkey & Swiss sandwich on Ciabatta bread. This is a cheerful deli with old fashion quality and unique and delightful gifts. For a splurge try the 3x chocolate single serving cake! This place can be counted on for high quality sandwiches and desserts. I am never disappointed with anything i buy here and it a fun place to visit. The outside porch is also a lovely spot to sit on sunny day.

Gregory A.

Yelp
Great selection of baked goods with offering of desserts from the TollGate Inn. Could have picked up the mega, uber, chocolatey, layered cake but opted for a blueberry pie. Oh so yummy. There's a lot of seating available and lots of baked goodies in the case at the counter. Coffee drinks galore along with beverages in the case near the baked goods. And talk about fun and goofy items that just scream Oregon for the tourists. An entire section dedicated to our infamous celebrity BigFoot. Friendly service was the bonus. A must stop in when heading up to Mt Hood or just mulling about Sandy.

Julie S.

Yelp
Best cannoli ever! Marscapone filling that is not too sweet! Old fashioned candies and gifts. Love all the homemade desserts and the chewy flaky bagel dog is amazing!

Chris L.

Yelp
Mixed experience here. Big case of pastries, lots of which looked great. And prices couldn't be beat. But the staff were not friendly to us, irked that we decided only to buy a cookie. I'd go back again since the pastries we're good, but I hope the establishment works with their staff to be friendlier to customers no matter what they buy.

Yelp
My mom ordered my baby shower cake from Tollgate Bakery and it was SERIOUSLY AMAZING. The carrot cake was sooo unbelievably good. And she did a fantastic job on the decorations; it was adorable and exactly what we wanted (my mom showed her a picture from pinterest). And the price was really good - much less than what we were quoted by various bakeries in Portland and Gresham. We will be coming here for now on for any special occasion cakes!

Art C.

Yelp
I wanna keep this Lil nook a secret and not share the experiences we have here but they deserve the post! Warm drinks that fuel the life blood of champions and really inexpensive but GREAT tasting treats like Nutella banana cream puffs!

Cindy I.

Yelp
Always like the snickerdoodle cookies. Good for taking on a hike or snowshoe trip. On hot days they have Italian soda that hit the spot. Good looking pies but haven't tried one. Don't forget a nice bathroom before hitting the mountain is always a plus.

Levi B.

Yelp
Omg the baked goods here are AMAZING and the prices are great! The staff was also super friendly. All around a great little spot, one hundred percent would recommend

Chris L.

Yelp
Pot roast was delicious! I got the sautéed veggies and mashed potatoes as my sides. Mashed potatoes tasted like they had some sweet potatoe mixed in and sautéed veggies were well cooked. Pot roast was tender but I wish I had more gravy!! The roll was delicious! And you can swing by next door to get some baked goods! I got the two cookies and two pastries for 6 bucks! Solid deal if you ask me would definitely stop by here next time I'm in the my hood area.

Yelp
My practice has always been to write favorable reviews or nothing at all. But, the appalling behavior of this establishment has led me to write this review. After years of frequenting this establishment, my visit last Sunday, is my last. Their total lack of care in regards to safe practices for their workers and customers was appalling. There was no social distancing and no requirement that anyone wear a mask. Workers were not protected by plexiglass and touched their masks. I left as quickly as I had entered and went to a bakery in Gresham that was requiring masks, had social distance measures in place and plexiglass to protect their workers. What an amazing difference just a few miles away. It was clear they were as interested in their workers and customers safety as they were profits. I will only patronize businesses that have a sense of social responsibility.

Nichole M.

Yelp
Sadly my reviews keep going down. I pass this on my way home every day so I stop from time to time. The product is inconsistent, sometimes you'll get something and it's delicious and then next time it's not so great. I just ordered a banana cake with custard filling for my husbands birthday. I ordered it in person and a week ahead of time. It was over $30 for an 8 inch round cake and when I got it home it was plain white cake with custard and sliced bananas.... incredibly disappointed. I won't be ordering a cake here again. I plan to let them know that they messed it up as well. They do have a neat gift section though.

Alaisha S.

Yelp
Great pies, cookies, and desserts all homemade. They do great custom order desserts and have a great variety of products, mostly local to give as gifts. I do wish they had sugar free options for all the diabetics out there.

Keorb Z.

Yelp
LOVE this little bakery! All the nostalgic candies and such are great to browse/purchase while you wait for your AWESOME Deli sandwich to be prepared. Also, their clam chowder on Fridays = AMAZING! We have been going here for years for their fresh breads, rolls, pies, cakes, pastries, canoles, etc! This place is great overall, the staff is amazing! Had a mishap with what I believe to be the owners at one point but they rectified it by offering us all coffees. Falsely accused my daughter and friends of shoplifting = bad!

paul s.

Yelp
Hit and miss, I've had cake and pies that were yummy and last time I had cookies that were obviously messed up in the mixing process that had at least 3 times too much salt, salt in a cookie is to enhance the flavors, not be the first, middle and last thing you taste. Lots of cool knickknacks to look at, friendly staff anyways, all in all not bad and worth a try

Chelsea W.

Yelp
Everything is amazing... customer service, prices and bakes goods!! $1.50 for the best muffins I've ever had! And if you get 4, it's only $5! The croissants are great, cookies, brownies...everything!!! I always walk out with a box and a couple bags and never spend more than $10!! If you're in the area you have to stop in!

Deena M.

Yelp
A somewhat reserved 4 stars...bakery-wise, if you stick with cookies and pastry-type desserts and steer clear of whipped cream stuff, you'll do ok. They use some sort of fake whipped cream which is awful, and unforgivable for a bakery, IMO. Very good coffee drinks and sandwiches. Choose wisely.

Marshall R.

Yelp
Not a big fan of the dining area but this is about the bakery. Great pies and cakes, the soup is a very good value for lunch.

Marie A.

Yelp
Our favorite pit stop every time we make the trek from Seattle to Bend. Awesome (and huge) sandwiches and super delicious treats. Very home style and we enjoy bringing a pie home on our way back through

Tracey M.

Yelp
Decided to stop on our way home and what a find!! Super cute little mercantile even if parking was a little tight. We had sandwiches from the bakery that were delicious and well priced. My favorite though was their coconut macaroon!

Kathleen H.

Yelp
I was torn, the bakery goods are outstanding here. What my concern is the bakery has a wall of old fashioned candy and goodies. While looking over the items displayed I noticed they had replica cigarette packs with candy inside displayed at just the right level for children to see. I asked the employee if she was the manager, I was going to quietly bring it to her attention that I thought it was wrong to carry this type of merchandise. I even let other customers go before me so I could be discreet. This employee said the manager was gone so I expressed how I felt about the candy item to her. She immediately got loud, said there was nothing she could do but finally said she would leave a note for the manager. She went on to say she had eaten these when she was a kid and she never smoked. I left feeling I was somehow a bad guy. It could have and should have been handled better.

Sally D.

Yelp
Chocolate. Covered. BACON. What more can possibly be said? This stuff is amazing. They sell out of it quickly, though. Also love the key lime tarts. But really....the bacon. Mmmm.

Marisa M.

Yelp
Love this place! They have a great 4 for 5 deal that I love to take advantage of. Their peanut butter cups are my go to treat! Friendly and helpful staff as well.

Russ M.

Yelp
Their blueberry muffins are literally the best I have ever had! And I've tried a ton of blueberry muffins. Everything else seems to be about average.

Annabelle P.

Yelp
Sandwiches aren't great, however if you've got a sweet tooth it's the way to go! Perfect location for a quick little date, you can get lots of muffins and pastries, as well as chocolates and cookies. They also have little milk cartons for purchase. Very cute little gifting items and just a fun experience.

Yelp
we stopped in the little town of Sandy, OR on the mt hood hwy from Bend to Brookings and wanted a taste of local flavor rather than a chain. and we got exactly what we wanted. we went to the saloon, not the restaurant. this place epitomizes small town charm and home cookin'. first thing i did after a long drive was hit the head--and was surprised to find a really nice, clean, working, stocked bathroom. always nice. next thing was to get a drink. was stoked to find a fully stocked bar and a really nice selection of PNW microbrews. my girlfriend had a lemon-drop type drink i didnt expect in a small-town bar but made expertly. after ordering i was even more stoked to get really nice, friendly, chatty (but not overly so) service. typical diner fare but homade fresh and very very well. with lots of little treats and surprises. check out the pix for menu shots. i had the chicken strip supreme sandwich--came with bacon on a fresh sourdough roll. omg. it was perfect. crunchy and warm and perfect. homade bbq sauce is a nice touch. soup du jour was hungarian mushroom. we had planned to stop once more before bend but didn't need to..we didn't even get dinner once we were there we were still stuffed. if i ever find myself in Sandy, OR again, i will be back. oh yeah--the desserts looked killer: fifteen layer chocolate cake bigger than my leg.

Laura P.

Yelp
Stopped in on the way back to our rental cabin for an iced coffee and some treats. Nice bakery selection and great prices. Most everything was $1.50 each. We did the 4 for $5. deal. Look, for these prices you're not getting "gourmet" goods but a cheap, tasty treat. The mercantile was cute, complete with old timey candies and jams you'd expect to find. Sign outside advertised shave ice, but I didn't see it actually being offered on the menu board. Will definitely stop by next mini-getaway.

Devin D.

Yelp
Terrible customer service this morning. I got there right at opening AS the young lady was unlocking the doors. I greeted her saying "Hello" and fallowed with a "Good morning". I did not get one word from her. This isn't the first time she has snubbed me before. She never greets you back after greeting her. She also makes absolutely no eye contact. Rudest employee by far that they have.

Kate T.

Yelp
My parents moved from Seattle, WA to Bend, OR last year. The Bakery at the Tollgate Inn is a stop we HAVE to make on every trip to and from home for a mid-drive pastry and coffee pick-me-up. My cousin raves about the cannoli (and rarely shares!) My mom and husband bonded over their mutual love for the mini German Chocolate Cakes. I order a different muffin every time. If you stop by in summer, enjoy one with seasonal fruit- like raspberries. The connected gift shop is very cute and kitschy. Whoever does the ordering for them is quite creative, their merchandise and displays are always changing with the season/holiday. The Tollgate Inn Bakery is a pleasure to patronize.

Alison M.

Yelp
This place totally surprised me and exceeded my expectations, after having breakfast next door we stopped in here for a few supplies. I am not usually a gift store shopper but I found a birthday present for my Dad and Mother in law. I did not try any baked goods but they looked awesome.

Lisa Y.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible services! Rude staff with bad attitudes making things much more difficult than they need to be. Spend your money somewhere else! Also the canned foods not that great.
