The Best Sports Bars to Watch the Vikings and the College Football Playoffs | Eater Twin Cities

"No tickets to the hockey game? Tom Reid’s has you covered if you want to skip the hassle of a big event for a more relaxed pub scene (though it does get crowded on game days). It’s just a few blocks from the Xcel center, so you won’t miss out on the ambiance, either. Go for the poutine, and do some pull tabs while you’re at it." - Eater Staff

Last night I took a walk to get food and landed here. I ordered the jack daniel wings and enchiladas. The wings didn’t really have too much flavor I wasn’t a fan of the sauce. The enchiladas were good but kinda dry but very well seasoned. The bar tender was very nice to me. Acknowledged me as soon as I walked in and sat down. Speedy service and the bar had a nice vibe. If I had to go back it definitely wouldn’t be for the food because what I ordered wasn’t too good. Seemed like a nice spot to watch sports. Maybe I should’ve ordered something else.

Google
My go to spot before Wild games but also a great spot to stop at on non game days! Friendly service with great food and drinks! They offer some nice discounts before games so definitely worth checking out! Beautiful patio and bar in the back as well! Also any hockey/sports fanatic will enjoy seeing all of the memorabilia throughout the building!

Went here for a late lunch today. I had the street tacos with al pastor meat (sweetened pork with pineapple chunks) and my husband had a cheeseburger and fries. I got three tacos, loaded with meat, onions and cilantro, refried beans, Spanish rice and lime wedges. Our server, Kris, recommended the meat and he was spot on! It was excellent. The rice and beans were also very good. My husband's burger was cooked to a perfect juicy med rare, and had wonderful flavor. His fries were the skinny ones that we love and were super good. Our server, Kris, was excellent! Very neat and clean in the restaurant and in the bathroom. I highly recommend this restaurant. Their prices are a bit steep but so is everywhere else these days. Also the portions are so huge, we both brought home a bunch of leftovers.

We hadn't been here in years but wanted a bite to eat before the Eagles concert. It was packed of course but service was fast and the food came quickly. Cajun rub chicken wings and a cheeseburger and fries were all good. Lots of TVs to watch sports. I love this place!

Google
Went last night to watch the soccer game. They didn't have it on but happily changed the TVs and even switched them when they realized the color was better in the one next to it. It's nice that they have a parking lot right next door. Save your payment and they will reimburse the fee back to your tab.

Google
Went here for the Minnesota Frost Draft Party. Very nice place. Love the memorabilia all over. The burger and onion rings I had was good and the staff was friendly. Thanks for hosting the party. :)

Google
It's a sports bar, you get what you're looking for. Nice big two-sided bar and lots of TVs to watch the game. The two-fer deal during hockey games is crazy good - I was very surprised but impressed to get two full beers on tap when I came in to kill some time on a Saturday evening. Very well staffed for the weekend rush and really pleasant bartenders. Not too loud despite the crowds and they seem to have a decent selection. Again, it's a sports bar so not much else to say :)

Google
I went here for the first time after The Eagles concert. It was packed with people but the place is big enough to contain such a happy crowd. We found a nice little table in the back room, away from the loud TVs and shared a couple of apps and conversation. Our server was really kindly and welcoming, upbeat and attentive while tending to the needs of a horde of hungry people. She set the vibe for a fun and relaxed date. 10/10 would come here again.

Yelp
This place is great. I don't know anything about hockey and I don't know who Tom Reid is. However, he must be a good dude because this is a fun place with great bar food. I ended up here during a recent trip to St. Paul sort fo late one evening looking for a bite to eat. The first few places I tried were all closed but said this was where the service industry crowd went after work. Good enough for me. Next thing you know I am ordering great draft beer, eating poutine, and having a solid burger. Damn, this block has some great food spots. The food was very good and they are open late. The crowd was fun and friendly as were the servers. Prices were pretty reasonable as well. If you find yourself in St. Paul, you need to visit this restaurant/bar. Get some poutine.

Yelp
You won't find a more "hockey" bar in MN. It gets packed on game days. But, what would you expect from the state of hockey? Bar food is fine - but you are here for the atmosphere/decor before, during, or after a Minnesota Wild hockey game. Every inch of wall space has a little bit of MN hockey history/pride. Where some bars are "sports" bars, this is a hockey bar. No question. If you see other sports memorabilia on the walls - please contact the manager or a local police officer. Have an appetizer, have a burger, have a beer - regardless, you will be in good company. Unless you cheer for the wrong team.

Yelp
Husband and I were in town for business. This was close to our hotel and decided to give it a go. Was not busy and we were able to seat ourselves. Kris immediately came to get our drink order, he was doubling as bartender. The rootbeer is really good. We ordered an array of appetizers and they came out promptly...spring rolls are delicious and come w a really good sweet chili sauce. My husband said the sloppy joe sliders are perfect. The waffle fries are huge and the portion is very plentiful. They're also cooked perfectly. I ate the quesadillas. Best chicken ever in them. Melts in ur mouth. Also the chocolate tuxedo mousse is very good....the mascarpone was just right. I highly recommend this place. It's clean, delicious food, comfy, nice menu, and Kris made our visit perfect Kris is a very good server and has a great personality. Will be back everytime we r in the area.

Yelp
If you are looking for a nice bar to hangout at and enjoy a cold beer or drink. This place definitely fits the bill and if you are a hockey fan they got you. Better than the other bars in the area and have a better selection of tap beer.
google avatar

Sue W.

Yelp
Stopped here after a concert at the Xcel for a few beers. We sat at the bar and service was prompt. I was duly impressed as there was only one bartender serving a full front house. There was a nice selection of beers on tap. After paying an arm and leg for a beer at the Xcel, I was super happy to have a $24 tab. Seating seemed plentiful and I could see even more tables in the back. There were 20ish TV's in the bar area, so plenty of options to keep up with multiple sports events.
google avatar

Chad M.

Yelp
Had a great time here when seeing Iron Maiden at The Xcel Energy Center. Chris our bartender was very engaging and the environment is amazing if you're a hockey fan! This place is basically a hockey museum with a bar. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Representing the best of Canada...POUTINE with a dollar off! Enjoyed a Kokanee beer 241and a Mushroom swiss burger. Good stuff. Pretty sure there was some hockey on. There is so much hockey memorabilia. SO.MUCH. Didn't know you were in the State of Hockey? You do now! Tom Reid is a legend in the hockey world and makes a tasty burger to boot. Definitely get yourself into this cool MN joint. They have some great daily specials so you definitely get some bang for your buck. Go check them out, but don't get sent to the penalty box!

Yelp
This place has become an annual thing now. I had a great time once again and the food was fantastic as usual. There was no ice in the urinal and I meant to ask if that was a special thing just for hockey! I do love coming here in the winter at night for an evening dinner. The prices are pretty decent considering the location. I had the standard burger with everyhthing on it. This has become my burger of choice so I can say that burgerin this place is great. It's big and tasty. Next year it's going to be that same burger again!
google avatar

Chara B.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now.. once before a concert at Excel and once for a Sunday Funday day drinking vibe and I have enjoyed it both times! Bartenders are nice and responsive.. I never really wait that long for a drink (even when it is crowded) the bartenders do a great job scanning and ensuring everyone has a drink, I can really appreciate that. I have not had food here but I have seen food come out and it looks like pretty solid bar food. It is clean in here as well, has basically anything you could want to drink and is centrally located on this street to make it super easy to bar hop! Will be back!

Kathie A.

Yelp
Sat at the bar did not get acknowledged at a table ordered a couple of beers my poutine was good needed to add Tabasco for flavor SO said his mushroom swiss burger was good. All in all okay experience before event at the X

Yelp
It's like going to a hockey museum and getting fed while you're looking at the memorabilia. The food was delicious and the drinks kept flowing.

Yelp
Hockey Central when in St. Paul. Food was good, service good, and the hockey ambiance was excellent. We were there for the Frozen Four and this place needs to be on your list when in St. Paul for hockey!

Yelp
Not sure why I keep trying this place. The food is not good and the service is worse. We've been sitting at a table for a half an hour and still haven't had anyone come to the table. One server was waiting on a table right next to me, looked me in the eye, could see that we had no menus or drinks and never came to ask if we would like anything. Just go anywhere else than here. So many better options on 7th street.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Good food, great atmosphere. Ate here before our first ever NHL game. Kids loved the memorabilia. Feels like a "must do" before a hockey game.
google avatar

Rob D.

Yelp
Despite a noticeable lack of Edmonton Oilers memorabilia I still enjoyed the visit very much. The Trejo Blade was deadly!

Alecia L.

Yelp
Emily the server was delightful!! Decided to play some pull tabs after the wild game. Lisa the pull-tab "lady" was EXTREMELY RUDE from the start. Decided to play despite her sincere unwelcomeness. Ended up with some play backs near the end of the night. She said that she would not play them back but would cash them out. 5 minutes later I watched her remove her "CLOSED" sign, play back pull tabs for others. When I walked up to the box while this was happening she said no. Even though she just gave others more pull tabs. Picking and choosing who to serve! Not sure why we were discriminated against? When we asked Lisa about it she had us kicked out. Very disappointed the way our night ended up because of her. As someone in the industry I always give more grace then necessary but this was not right at all. Unfortunately ruined our Tom Reid's experience.

James S.

Yelp
Incredible place. Went here before a Wild game. It was packed, but it was so fun to see everyone out in their Wild gear. It took me a bit to find a place to sit, but it was worth it. Great atmosphere and the food was fantastic. I'll definitely go again before I head home.

Yelp
We came here for a Vikings game for lunch in a Sunday and were able to find street parking. The servers worked well as a team with the amount of people we had at the table and I thought they did excellent with speed and service for drinks and food. I went for an appetizer and did Buffalo wings (bone-in). The flavor were spot on for the type of sauce I enjoy when getting Buffalo. The wings had great texture also. Seems like happy hours happen often and are a great deal for downtown St. Paul area.
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
Nice easy walk to grab dinner before going to a concert at the Xcel. Even though they were very busy, our service was quick and our server was friendly. We ordered poutine & a Buffalo chicken sandwich. Food was better than standard bar food. Definitely would stop in again.

Patty J.

Yelp
The food was below average. Hot dogs were cold in the middle, onion rings were lukewarm and soggy, taco salad was not fresh, poutine was ok, but not traditional Canadian poutine (no cheese curd on top). Service was extremely slow. Perhaps we experienced below average food and extremely slow service because we went there before a game. Not sure I would go back.
google avatar

Blake T.

Yelp
This place is amazing and fun, especially before a wild game. The whole establishment is filled with hockey paraphernalia and the atmosphere is everything you'd hope it would be to grab a drink or something to eat before the game. Perhaps the only criticism is the price but am happy to pay this price with what is all offered. The servers were incredibly kind and personable. Tom Reid himself was sitting at a table near by. Very cool.
google avatar

Rick Z.

Yelp
Delicious BLT, OMG. A little pricey, but also huge, so... They toasted the bread to perfection and the mayo and bacon were mouth-watering. Also the fries were really good! I think they added a little onion powder or something, not just salt to give 'em a unique but very agreeable flavor. The atmosphere is what you'd expect for a sports bar, lots of TVs playing different games, a bar section in the middle, sports memorabilia on the walls; in particular, many signed hockey jerseys suspended from the ceiling. Pretty cool! The restrooms were clean, and kept to the theme by having "piss troughs" instead of urinals, LOL. Service was also good. Our waitress was really sweet. Even though it was busy they got our food out to us pretty quick and came by multiple times to check if we needed anything else. They forgot the fries on my friend's order but were quick to remedy it right away. Our waitress seamlessly was able to split the check three ways and take our payment right there at the table with her digital handheld unit. Handy! We did notice this place offers "2fers" on drinks on non-game nights. So we were outta luck there considering we were attending the game after dinner, haha, but still, good to know for future reference, eh?

Yelp
Hockey town Minnesota. Good beer, burgers, fun atmosphere. Not to mention Sir Tom Reid at the helm.

Mark H.

Yelp
What a great place, the owner was a Minnesota Wildcat and the hockey theme is all around, awesome service!! And don't get me started about Taco Tuesday, these tacos are legit!!! Don't miss this place!!
google avatar

Yelp
My girl Chelsea is a bad bitch! We were there on St. Patty's day and it was so busy. You should've seen how packed. And she tended to us like we were a sick woman on our death bed. Legendary. Epic. Fabulous. She's also hilarious. Will come here again just for her. Oh, & the food is good too.

Patricia G.

Yelp
Best food and service in St. Paul. Had a wonderful experience Staff is outstanding and it is a super clean place.

Yelp
A must stop for me on any visit to Saint Paul is Tom Reid's Hockey City Pub. I have been here for lunches, dinners, a quick bite before a Minnesota Wild game and for drinks. My girlfriend and I even rang in the New Year 2019 at Tom Reid's! If you want the full experience try the Canadian Poutine. They also have harder to find Canadian beers on tap. Go for a Kokanee! I have even ran into NHL legend and owner Tom Reid! Enjoy the meal and soak up the hockey history!

Yelp
Cool atmosphere. Fast service. Cool staff. We stopped by to grab something to eat after what seems like everything else on the strip was closed. It was only 9pm. The food was good--your typical bar food. Lots of TVs hung around the bar area and different sport channels playing. If you're looking for a quick bite and catching a few games, this is th
google avatar

Yelp
We can not go to this part of Saint Paul without hopping into Tom Reid's. What a great bar. The drinks and drink specials are usually great. The atmosphere of the bar is unmatched, especially during wild games. I've had both good and questionable food experiences here. Sometimes the food can be top notch and at other times it can seem as if the kitchen is mailing it in for the night.

Yelp
Drinks - strong. Food - piping hot. Service - super friendly. Ambience - amazing. Awesome place to drink, watch a game, eat dinner.

Diana G.

Yelp
Service was awesome. Watched the game. We had a carnitas taco meal. It was delicious. The drinks and atmosphere were good as well.

Yelp
Exactly what you want out of a pub. -relaxed atmosphere -good pricing -great service We are the buffalo wings, custom burger and pulled pork sandwich. All were great. Adding photos of the menu for you all to peruse.
google avatar

Roxanne S.

Yelp
Too crowded, not worth the energy. Burger and fries are good, but not worth the wait or risk of COVID. Feels understaffed, but servers are seemingly trying their best.
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
Great sports bar! Friendly staff, good bar food, and lots of TVs to watch any sporting event. Perfect spot before a Wild game or any event in the area.

Steve C.

Yelp
Great food. Great drinks. Tremendous staff. With all of the bar options available within a few blocks, Tom Reid's is my go-to spot on West Seventh. For a special experience, go in on a Sunday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and get yourself a Bloody Mary (amazing!) and enjoy their brunch menu. I highly recommend the Chorizo breakfast tacos!

Marissa O.

Yelp
Great environment before hockey games! Beer is a great price. Servers were great and very busy! Get here early for a seat.

Jr D.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good beer, fantastic for sports, the food was nothing special but definitely tasty.

Yelp
Happy hour: 4-6 & 9-11. This place get PACKED for hockey games. Parking: in the back is between $0-$20 depending on events in downtown at Xcel. Food: typical bar food. I got the fire burger with fries. It was A-okay. My friends got nachos. They had the chips on the bottom and all the toppings on the top so the bottom chips were plain. Service: we had to flag our server every time. She never checked on us and it wasn't even a busy night. She forgot drink orders, brought the wrong drinks to us. Drinks: happy hour is 2-4-1 and they are strong!
google avatar

John O.

Yelp
Not a lot to say Nice Canadian theme, eh? Go for 2-4-1's I have recently been here a couple times for Friday afternoon happy hours, most recently for the 12-21-2012 Apocalypse. Not sure what is not available on 2-4-1's on Friday's anymore. My Molson Canadians were two for ones, and those with me were getting two for ones on mixed drinks. Told that the 2-4-1's go all day and night on Fridays. One nice thing would be is if they gave you a token or some other type of credit for your second drink. I am not the slammer I once was and like to drink my beer cold. Those with mixed drinks were complaining that their second drink was water by the time they got around to it. The poutine is decent for the two I have had locally, but I would prefer that the curds are more chunky and less melted - cheesy fries are pretty easy to find (just bring in some gravy and DIY poutine - voilà). Several other Canadian items on the menu. Had the Canadian Melt yesterday (Canadian bacon and melted provolone cheese served on marble rye with banana peppers, mayo and maple syrup)-four stars for this. Really good! Any sandwich with maple syrup on it gets praise in my book. On my way out was told that Tom Reid himself was walking in. I never would have recognized him. Although, he did have quite the entourage.
google avatar

Denali G.

Yelp
Really fun hockey bar before or during wild games! Their happy hour is 2 for 1 drinks. Seat yourself so try to get here before 5 to get a table before game nights. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich and they gave you a great deal of chicken! Their poutine is good for any homesick Canadians

Lindsay B.

Yelp
Tom Reid and his staff are extremely elitist. Any common person (which is the majority of people In the twin city) are treated like trash. Staff told us their wasn't room for us and they weren't accommodating at all. So disappointed. Will never go back.
google avatar

Lynda B.

Yelp
Jill was the best! She took over for our lackluster server and we were so thankful she did. Fun night and will be back as much as possible. The steak bits are the best. Actually could easily be a meal on it's own.

Mr. K.

Yelp
Food is ok for the basics but place gets extra credit for Tom Reid ex North Star hero. Yelp requires more words like a high school theme so blah blah blah!
google avatar

Allegra C.

Yelp
I recently moved to Saint Paul. My mom, my sister, and myself wanted to grab a drink. We walked into the front door and an employee came running (literally) to tell us that we were not allowed in. He began to say that they were at capacity, but as 4 people were walking out, we asked him why we could not take the place of those people. Instead of answering the question, he then decided to tell us that we were "looking full" and looked like we had "a few drinks already." It was our first stop... I have never had anyone say anything like that to me. I was pretty appalled, and it takes a lot to do. I am very disappointed. I have a huge hockey family that frequented that bar. But, because of one person, we will never go to this place again.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
I've been going to Tom Reid's as long as I've been going to Wild games. Just something about going into a great hockey bar that pumps you up for some hockey! There is a lot of hockey memorabilia so take a lap around and look at all the cool stuff on the walls. They have the NHL Center Ice package so you can watch games from all around the NHL! They have a fairly sizable menu that is very kid friendly. I had the chicken strip basket the last time I was there. Its was pretty good and just the right size. Friday's they have 2 for 1 happy hour all day (excluding event days) If you go on an event day it can get pretty busy so be prepared to fight crowds. The service can be sketchy at times. I stopped in last Friday afternoon to watch the Gopher hockey game and got a spot at the bar. I sat there a good 10 minuets before I even saw a bartender. The service was ok after that although I'm still waiting for that last drink I ordered.
google avatar

Iaan H.

Yelp
Nice place. Service was fast. They don't serve Guinness right however. They also don't play their TouchTunes. I played 2 songs and they played whatever they wanted right over it. Little upset.
google avatar

Peter H.

Yelp
Good place for a stop before a Wild game, we found the staff friendly enough. The food took way too long and was so mediocre I could have done better at the Burger King up the road.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Came here 2 hours before a wild game, had to seat yourself and search for a table but we ended up finding one quick. Waiter was fast to get us drinks and take our order. Burgers were really good too! I would definitely come back here before another wild game or just to eat in general!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
The husband and I normally only come here to drink before a Wild game. Needless to say, it is a complete shit show of wall to wall hockey fans and there is not a seat in sight. We decided to come here for dinner on a random Friday night with not an event in sight. What a difference experience. While I personally thrive on the crowds and the drunks it was rather nice to be able to choose whatever booth we liked and have the entire menu at our finger tips. We were unaware of the 2 for 1's so that was an excellent way to start the night. Husband ordered the Cuban. I ordered my own tried and true poutine. I order poutine anywhere and everywhere I can but Tom Reid's does that shit right. Just the correct amount of cheese and gravy. The gravy, oh how I dream of that gravy at night. Trust me, order the poutine now and you can thank me later. Server was attentive. One cuban with fries, order of poutine and 6 drinks altogether was just under 40 bucks. Check them out on a non event night and I look forward to reading your positive review in the future.
