Toma Taco

I’ve ordered take out from here and the food wasn’t as pleasant as it was in restaurant. Salsa is very good. There’s a variety of folks from all walks in the dining area. It’s definitely a small town feel for good Hispanic food.

The food tasted great and it was inexpensive. My husband enjoyed the carne guisada and I really liked the bacon and egg. The carnitas was okay and the asada was also just okay. Unfortunately, we have a small visitor eating with us at our table.

Service is always outstanding and the staff has great personality. Although it can get busy at times, like any place, they hold it down. It’s always chilly inside so if you get cold easily just bring a jacket. Food quality has never disappointed me. Top 3 Mexican restaurants in San Marcos

I can’t get enough of this place. Tacos are amazing and so is the fajitas. The staff is so kind and helpful. Would say it’s a bit on the pricy side depending what you order but definitely worth the price. Most authentic Mexican food in San Marcos that’s for sure. Highly recommend!!

The ladies that run this place are amazing! Great customer service and the BEST breakfast tacos in San Marcos. The green salsa is insanely spicy but sooo good. I’ve been happy every time I’ve been here for breakfast tacos. I’m vegetarian and love the nopales! Highly recommend!

I don’t know if the night crew is bad but it was a bunch of young people that were sitting down or messing around behind the counter. Our waitress took our order, brought our food and waters and never came back. The beans were burned, the chicken in the enchiladas were salty. Everything was over priced by $3. The water had a bad taste to it. The waitress brought us a bottle of salsa that was almost empty. Really disappointed with the place. Will not come back.

I feel ripped off. I ordered the beef fajitas with extra tortillas as well as the chips and queso. When the order was delivered, there was barely any queso (I’m talking about 1/3 full) and the chips were stale and had a nasty flavor. For some reason they gave me all corn tortillas even though the fajitas are advertised with flour and the guacamole was missing. This place need to be taken off Door Dash if they are going to be screwing people over like this.

Ahh let me tell about Toma, If you haven't been you need to GO! food is made with love, the waitress are very kind. The cooks are amazing! I've had this place in rotation for about 4 years. Great vibe, overall.

Toma Taco has the best tacos in San Mo, no question. This cozy spot has a rustic, homey feel inside, giving it that perfect "hole-in-the-wall" vibe--but the food? Absolutely banging. You have to try their al pastor tacos. Hands down, the best al pastor in all of San Mo. Back in undergrad, my friends and I came here all the time for a delicious bite, and it never disappointed. The servers are kind, the salsas are on point, and the flavors are always top-tier. The only slight miss? The chips. I'm all about a good homemade chip at a Mexican restaurant, and these remind me a little too much of Totino's from the grocery store. But honestly, that's a minor detail because everything else here is fire. Bonus: The tacos come with charro-style beans, and let me tell you--these are THE BEST BEANS I'VE EVER HAD. Spicy, meaty, and absolutely delicious. If you're in San Mo and craving tacos, this is the spot to hit up.

Food is excellent. Not often I think the rice and beans almost overshadow the main entrée. But here it's close. Great service. Definitely worth coming back again and again.

Asked for queso and was given a cup of shredded cheese. Service is also very slow and I've never been given silverware on a to go order. Will not be returning and I recommend you don't either.

If you follow along, you know we will travel for food...and for us San Marcos is pretty close and has a lot to offer in the form of Mexican Food. Place is pretty small, older but clean...And Packed!...We walked in around noon on Sunday, and its a seat yourself joint...spotted a table with 3 chairs and with 3 of us...perfect fit. Although service was pretty slow, these girls were Hustlin there buts off, taking orders and dishing out food as quick as they can...Several people walked thru the door looking for a place to sit...and they either left or put in a to go order. For us this was a good sign and trust me when I say it was worth the wait. We started with Chips, salsa and Queso...Everything was good, but make sure to ask for the bottled salsas as both are superior to the one on the table...its still good, but these are better. The food came out piping hot. Wife went with the chicken flautas, which were packed out, crispy and delicious...She used the bottled red for dipping. The GD went with the small quesadillas (3) with Barbacoa....Personally they looked like taco, she truly enjoyed them...Barbacoa was legit all day...super tender, not greasy and very good...I was really exited to get half of the last one because she was full. Mine was the Tejano plate, with uber tender Carne Guisada, 2 cheese enchiladas, killer beans, rice and a side of tortillas. Overall the visit was great....we would probably avoid this place on the weekend, but definitely want to try the breakfast menu as well.

We had dinner here on a Tuesday evening. We walked to the counter to order our food but we were told that we will be served at a table, so we sat down at a booth. The interior of the restaurant is clean. Our server took our order of the Al pastor plate and the fajitas. We were served chips and salsa and three large waters. The meals came out fairly quickly. We enjoyed the food with the exception of the beef, which was fairly tough to chew. The salsa and the flour tortillas were very fresh. One star removed for minimal table service from our server and tough beef.

My favorite place in town. The Taco El Rey is properly named, and the chip salsa and green salsa are first rate.

Very bad experience Toma Taco started off with such good service and food and although the food has remain mostly consistent it is over shadowed by the horrible service. The waitress (the owner's daughter) failed majorly and was a poor reflection of the entire establishment. She had an awful personality she was sulking and not smiling or welcoming. We asked for drinks, chips and salsa, and plates of food that never came. We had asked for posole and were told they were out. Later during our visit other tables were given chips and received posole. We are a family of 7 that would come in regularly and spend more than $100 per visit, but our money will no longer go to a restaurant with waitstaff with such poor pitiful work ethic. It's time for a shift in society no more accepting such terrible service!

Small unassuming place in San Marcos that serves a killer carne guisada, good cheese enchiladas, and wonderful sides of beans, rice, and salsa. The service is exceptional , friendly, and attentive. My one gripe is they don't have half n half or milk for their coffee only bad for you hydrogenated creamer.

First time trying Toma Taco, it was Delicious best carne asada I've had in Texas and the salsa was amazing! I will definitely go back.

A must stop each time when we are in San Marcos!! So good! We've tried everything from breakfast to lunch to dinner and very time it is amazing.

3. Mini Taquitos, 18. Chimichanga. Perfect portions on food often J can never finish my dinner and the portions here really helped me. The food was really good and I love the beans here. Thank you will be coming back for a margarita and dinner soon. Margaritas are real good here .

The food is just wow! The mini tacos have ginormous flavor. The salsa is flavorful and hot. The music is a bit loud for my taste but it's good music. Parking is difficult when they are busy but that is San Marcos for you. The wait staff has never let me down. All around a solid choice.

I ordered steak chalupa and a gordita with beef fajita. It was not good. The gordita was fried too long and was very hard, I could not cut it without it breaking, so I tried to just break off a piece and it it that way, then decided to just eat the filling. The meat was so very awful. It tasted like it was too old and had a flavor i had never tasted. Same for the chalupa. My husband ordered tacos and could not eat his either due to the rotten meat taste. I do not recommend it. Service was good and fast.

Absolutely amazing food!!! It really is some of the best that I have had in this area!!! Their barbacoa, menudo, breakfast tacos, and tortillas are the best!!!!

Do not use delivery via the Toma website site! Placed an order for over $100 plus $15 tip, received a confirmation email with delivery estimate of 45 minutes and my credit card was charged. An hour later I called the restaurant and was told they don't offer delivery and my order was never received. The employee refused to believe I had placed an order with them and tried to tell me I needed to order again or use Door Dash. Having already paid, I declined her offer. She finally called her manager (who was apparently at home) and said "oh yeah, we do offer that now. We'll get your order right out" - no offer of discount or refund of my tip. Yikes!

Went on a Sunday night for dinner with the family. Wasn't too busy inside, but then seemed to have a lot of takeout. I ordered a burrito with chicken fajita and the meat was really flavorful and tender. We will definitely be back. I didn't get pics of our dinner, but I took updated pics of the menu since the others are out of date and the online menu only showed breakfast.

I have come here many times from 2021 to now and I have never had a bad experience. They give you big portions for a good price and great quality. Do not go to the big flashy restaurants in San Mo I would take Toma Taco over them easily. Chile Verde Plate, Mini Taquitos and Enchiladas Verdes are my go to's. Service is great and Ambiance is classic hole in the wall it has its own vibe.

We are in town for few things. We wanted some Mexican food. We have mixed feelings about there food. Food wasn't horrible it just needed some help. No homemade tortillas. Margaritas taste like store bought *.

im mad bc i used to come here EVERY week, sometimes 2-3x a week (don't judge me), but the last time I ever ate here there were like 4 hairs in my food. they were eyelashes or something too like huh?? I have food anxiety so I will probably never eat here again and that makes me sad asf. It was a couple months ago now but the anger is forever

This is a San Marcos staple! Love coming here for the authentic and humble environment. Great customer service and great food. I personally always get their breakfast tacos which I love. All the employees are great and they provide great service.

Walking distance from San Marcos square. Small and quaint place. Serving staff were very friendly and attentive. Chips and salsa were good but warm salsa would be even better. Huevos rancheros were amazing with Salsa. Great food portion includes Beans, potatoes, and bacon.

Food was good. Service was a little slow, but it was because they did not have enough staff. Overall it was a great place to try on our way back home.

Two words: SALT BOMB. I'm giving two stars because delivery was well executed (food neatly organized in the white box, good meat-to-shell ratio, salsa and napkins included, correct order, etc.) and because we only tried one dish (crispy tacos in both chicken and beef). But dinner did NOT hit the spot... Could've gotten the same great crunch with a lot less salt from Taco Bell. In the future, I'll try a different dish to confirm whether the over-salting is a consistent problem. Perhaps we caught them on a bad night or the heavy salting is unique to their Tex-Mex menu/crispy tacos.

I had flautas and my friend had torta. I wish I ordered torta too. Torta was so delicious, prolly the best in san marcos. We had Michelada with corona and it was pretty nice as well. The service is fast and the food would not disappoint you.

I decided to come here on a Friday night and it was a poor call on my end. The service was terrible along with the wait times. I believe we waited 20 minutes to get seen by our waitress and have waters brought to us. We eventually placed and order but I was turned off from seeing cockroaches crawling on the floor in the restaurant.

Our waitress was awesome! I couldn't decide what to get and she went through the menu pointing out her favorites and why; and described the best sellers. And she wasn't wrong, the food was plentiful and delicious. And not expensive.

Delicious, and clean inside. we came in on a wednesday afternoon so food came out very fast. Service was good as well, so overall we had a great experience for our first time in!

One of my favorite spots in San Marcos! Perfect spot too! Right smack dab in the middle of downtown San Marcos afterwards you can explore the city :-) The food is fresh and the portions are good and the bill is easy on the pockets PS: The breakfast menu items are amazing!!

I come here basically once a month with my roommates, we've made it a tradition because the food is SO GOOD every time. Sometimes there's a bit of a wait even when seated if it's crowded. There seems to be not a lot of servers but it's literally always worth the wait. Great prices too, on drinks and food!

Breakfast tacos are delicious, had a machacado/egg and chorizo/egg tacos. Service is also fantastic, first time trying this place and definitely coming back. Thank you.

Would have given more stars if we could have gotten food! Went by on Monday July 26 at 6:00 PM but it was closed. No sign, nada. Other people pulled up too and then left. Everyone puzzled as to why not open.

We were in town for the weekend and looking for a quick breakfast and were so happy we stopped in! We got a few different breakfast tacos and all were phenomenal, and their chips and salsa were fantastic. The wait staff was friendly and attentive and we ended up coming back a second time before leaving town. Highly recommend!

Came here since I was in town and was told by a friend that is was good. Walked in and seat ourselves since that's what the sign said. Multiple severs walked past us and said nothing. My friend went to the counter and told the male sever that we were waiting and pointed to where we were sitting. He said okay. Half an hour goes by as we watch a group of four come in and be immediately serviced and orders taken. We are still eating. A female server came by and asked if we were drinking in or take it. We told her dine in that's why we're sitting. She said okay and went to another customer. 15 more mins she's hugging the group of four that came in and still no one has serviced us. We eventually decided to just leave bc the service is ridiculous. Never coming back here again

Stopped here on the way home, after doing hair and makeup for a wedding in Wimberly. Small little hole in the wall place, which I love because those are usually the best places. This place did not disappoint. The molcajete was fire!!! So much meat and each type was so tender and mmmmm! The green salsa was so good! The service was great too. It was packed and the service was still pretty fast. I'd definitely make the drive out just to eat here again.

This place is SO GOOD!!! Everything I've tried has been excellent but my favorites so far are the mini tacos and the torta with milanesa. Also the charro beans and the green salsa are so good you'll want to bathe in them! Lived in SM my whole life and this is my new go-to spot for Mexican food!

Great authentic Tex-Mex! Try the cheese enchiladas and crispy tacos. Refried beans and rice are also delicious. Popular place near the square with friendly, efficient staff. Will return again and again!

I would highly recommend this place. They served us with a smile at 9:45 PM and the food was so delicious. We enjoyed all the tacos and the chalupa was incredible!

Wow!! This place was delicious! It was very authentic Mexican and have a very extensive menu. It was 4 adults and 2 children. Salsa with the chips was very good. 1. Molcajete was tons of meaty and cheesy goodness. 2. Small Caldo de Pollo had so much flavor and the rice on the side was great too. 3. Pollo Poblano was huge and came with a side of rice, veggies and fries. 4. Assorted tacos were served so full, was able to make an extra taco from the meat that fell out. Lastly the kids beef enchilada with side of rice and beans was completely devoured by 2 toddlers. Service was great, and manager came by to make sure everything was good. Wish we lived in San Marcos to make this place a regular and try more items.

Toma Taco amongst the top 3 Mexican places you could go to in San Marcos tbh. Really good customer service and they Fr fill you up. Worth the buck

Good food not expensive. The service is always quick and the bean and cheese tacos are absolutely amazing. I definitely recommend anyone looking to get a quick fast taco or quality Mexican food to stop here.
