"Farmington Hills favorite Tomatoes Apizza specializes in New Haven-style pizzas. The popular “green” pizza features chopped spinach, garlic, and mozzarella. The ingredients are spread generously across each slice and nearly reach the edge of the crust for even more perfect bites." - Serena Maria Daniels

New Haven style pizza in Michigan baby! Truly elite pizza for the Metro-Detroit area... great tasting fresh ingredients and i love the coal-fired crust, definitely no flop with this one! Highly suggest checking this place out if your an avid pizza lover! Be prepared to pay a little more than normal but it's totally worth it.

Insanely delicious. Do yourself a favor and bring a friend and order a large sampler apizza so you can try them a variety. Nicole was an amazing waitress as well and was so so so kind and helpful. Will definitely be back on the regular!

I had a great experience at Tomato Apizza. The pizza, cooked in a coal-fired oven, had a wonderful smoky flavor that made it stand out. It was fresh, unique, and delicious. The prices were fair for the quality of food, and the salad bar offered a nice variety of fresh options. Our waitress was friendly, accommodating, and really made our dinner enjoyable. I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for great pizza and excellent service.

Google
This pizza was fantastic. Ordered a large pizza for pick-up on a Tuesday night and it was ready within 10 minutes. I tried it first when it was hot and it was fabulous!!! The pepperoni, sauce, and cheese were perfect. I love this style of pizza. Beyond that, the woman behind the counter was SO friendly!!! She even said she loves the pizza and rarely gets tired of it. The guys making the pizza were also very nice when I told them it was my first time trying it out. One of my top 3 pizza places in the Detroit area…. I’ll absolutely be back. Can’t wait to try more items!

Google
This is some of the best thin crust pizza in the area. Half white and half green with sausage and mushrooms. The coal fire adds that little bit of bottom burn and burn bubbles that are fantastic.

Google
Love the buffet - Salads pizza drinks and dessert bread can't beat it for the price too. Nice staff also.

Google
We ordered a small Napples sampler, total cost was $19.40 - the crust is thin and delicious, ingredients were fresh, excellent pizza.

So, you know how you see reviews of restaurants that are 5 stars across the board and think the person rating it was exaggerating? More often than not, that is true, but not in this case! This restaurant was, without a doubt, some of the BEST artesian pizza I have had in a while! My companion and I went there on a whim, and I am so glad we did. The restaurant was quaint and cozy but had a great family feel to it on top of being really clean and inviting. The first thought that popped into my mind when i walked in was that i HAVE to bring my family back for pizza night! The staff was friendly, patient, and accommodating. They have a wonderful salad bar with top-notch veggies and condiments, and come on, who doesn't love a great salad bar?! We opted for the Naples Sampler... WOW is all I can say. It really is a tour that I can't wait to take again! Each piece was a delightful, delicate but robust sensation. We ordered the small which came with 8 pieces. 2-White ( fresh tomato, garlic, mozzarella cheese and basil), 2- Green (mozzarella, spinach and garlic), 2- fresh Mozzarella (mozzarella, red sauce and basil), and 2- classic (cheese, red sauce and a topping of your choice). We stuck to just cheese and red sauce, no extra topping. Topped it all off with a nice big and fresh salad! And all of that great food for just $25! YOU. CANT. BEAT. THAT! I could rave all day, but all I can really say is if you are in Farmington Hills, you MUST give Tomatoes APizza a try! You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I could eat at Tomatoes everyday for the rest of my days and die a happy man. I've had the pleasure of enjoying their amazing food for years and never tire. During lunch hours, you can enjoy the buffet and get an amazing selection to sample from along with the amazing salad bar. This time, we went in the evening and still enjoyed the salad bar, but instead of the buffet, we got a pizza just for us. This was the large Naples Sampler which could easily feed 4 people was an amazing variety. Ambiance is nothing to write home about, but still well done. And the service is friendly and quick! If you're in the area, or heck, even if you're not, start driving! It's worth it!

Yelp
Stopped by after going to Franklin's Cider Mill. Got the large pizza & boy was it large. Good enough for 3-4 people. The pizza is a super thin crust & the dough is really delicious. I thought the red sauce was on the tart side for me, but that's just preferences. We also got the spaghetti & that was just okay, nothing to write about. Definitely stop by for pizza if you're in the area. For 2 people, def could've done a small for dine in & not bring any home.

Yelp
Unbelievably fresh and delicious, these pizzas are at the top of the local pizza game. Weekdays offer a chance to stop by their pizza and salad buffet with endless options of pizza being freshly made every couple minutes (you can even request a specific pizza be made). The carryout pizzas are a little more expensive than usual, but worth every penny.

Robert D.

Yelp
Service, food, and Ambiance all reminders of what makes pizza parlors so great. I like my pizza well done and they did a great job with hitting the mark.

Yelp
Could not be any better. Mindy my server was so nice and professional. Great salad bar too. Had the 4 topping combo and it was phenomenal !! Nice char on crust and cooked PERFECTLY!! New Haven style and was great. Service was what it made it a great experience. Can't tell you how much Mindy made the experience better. A professional server. Thanks so much. I'll be back when I am in Pontiac. Place was very clean too.

Jon D.

Yelp
I order quite often, at least once a week. Something must of changed at the pizzeria and how food is prepped. Found hair in the dough/pizza, twice in one month!

Kristine Z.

Yelp
Unique and tasty pizza/bread! Both the garlic bread and pizzas were massive, extremely thin, crispy. This proportion of topping to dough made everything quite flavorful/salty as well. We really liked adding cherry peppers and sausage to the classic large pizza. Would definitely like to come back for their buffet some time!

Dalia A.

Yelp
Amazing, flavorful, thin and crispy pizza! I love a classic cheese pizza here but when I want a little bit of everything, the Naples sampler is the way to go! Service is great and everyone is always so friendly. For dessert, the Nutella pizza is so yummy and a must try for Nutella lovers! 100% recommend coming here, one of my favorite pizza spots!

Yelp
This place is great and how we didn't know about it until now is unknown. We went for lunch buffet M-F 11am-2pm: $12.99 per adult and age of kid is price you pay. So for a family of four it was under $30 with unlimited salad bar, pizza, pop, and dessert (Nutella between pizza dough ). Pizza is the thin and crispy kind, comes straight out of the oven on the other side of the buffet counter. You can see the guys shoveling in pizza after pizza in the huge wood oven. There is also made to order spaghetti with marinara, marinara with meatballs, or garlic oil. Just ask the server, who gave us a tip that some people just order a plate of meatballs or mix the marinara and garlic oil together. We will try the spaghetti option next time. Salad bar had chickpeas, salami, croutons, olives, cheese, cucumber, tomato, and I believe Italian, ranch, and one other dressing available. The kids enjoyed the chickpeas, salami, and olives from the salad bar and some cheese pizza. The Nutella pizza dessert was a hit! Drinks are just a fountain with coke, Diet Coke, root beer, lemonade, unsweetened ice tea (so you can make an Arnold Palmer, my favorite), sprite, and water. To go cups available as well. There were people doing to go lunch buffet but not sure how that works or if the pricing is the same. Turn over was quick despite the small dining room. The busing staff was very efficient and friendly. We had a mishap with a spilled water glass that they instantly came to help mop up. Only hang up is that we wish the one closer to us in Birmingham offered the same buffet option. Edit: and the fact they don't have a changing table in either of the restrooms to change a baby/toddler.

Sara J.

Yelp
Unfortunately we have had bad experiences the 3 times we tried to do their buffet lunch. The salad area is decent enough but the pizza always seems old and dry. There has only been pasta one time and it was freshly made but was barely 2 servings! Luckily someone who worked there gave me a heads up it was coming out so I could get some because they knew it would definitely not be enough for the restaurant. We will not be back.

Cory C.

Yelp
My brother and I agree that the pizza was 3.5 stars when we ate it fresh, but a solid 4 when we heated up the leftovers...mind-boggling, no idea how that works. We ordered a large fresh mozzarella pizza with pepperoni, which also comes with fresh basil on top. Usually it's easy to tell if something is fresh mozzarella, but I don't think I'd identify it as fresh if it weren't labeled as such - maybe it's drier than other fresh mozzarella I've had or they use a mix of fresh and bagged? No clue. The pepperoni on there were thick and tasty. The crust was thinner than normal pizzas, but not "thin crust" thin. It had a good texture to it. It was definitely pricey at $30, but it was enough for my brother and I to have a bunch for lunch, plus another meal each. The pizza boxes advertise review snippets from food publications saying "best pizza in Michigan" or "top 5 pizzerias". I wouldn't agree with those assessments, but it was for sure tasty.

John T.

Yelp
Pizza is so good have to try if you come to Detroit, will be coming back if I ever come back to Detroit

Laken S.

Yelp
We tried Tomatoes Apizza for the first time recently and absolutely loved it! We tried the Naples Sampler, which separates a large pizza into four samples. We loved it all except for the "Green" corner, which was a little too much spinach for my taste. The "World Famous Garlic Bread" was also delicious, and could quite possibly be one of my favorite garlic breads of all time! It's perfectly garlicky and buttery, and doesn't feel too filling/thick. We will definitely be back for more!

Nancy C.

Yelp
The smell when you walk in is everything you want a pizza place to be. The wood-fired pizzas and bread are delicious. If you are a at home pizza maker and don't have time to make and rise dough, you can purchase "dough to go"! Everyone is friendly and helpful.

Mike C.

Yelp
Great pizza just like in New Haven Connecticut moved here from Connecticut and we've been looking for a good pizza since we moved here by far the best pizza I've had the last nine months promote promote promote

Mark L.

Yelp
Tomatoes Apizza is a thin crust style pizza. This is my preferred style of pizza. I like the cheese and pepperoni Tomatoes uses. We usually get the sampler pizza which has four different types of pizza in one. The atmosphere is family. Service is friendly. Sometimes this place is jammed. Since Covid the dining room has been much less so.

Cinthia L.

Yelp
Pizza is great we have been a client for years, unfortunately had our first horrible experience on the phone with a girl not willing to let me finish a sentence and hanging up on me. I was checking on a delivery that somehow got mistaken by a pick up, maybe my mistake but still she could have listened and let me know it was listed as pick up. Had to call again until someone pick up and figure out for me. Too late to pick up, my loss.

David M.

Yelp
This place is SUPER popular and has won best buffet multiple years by multiple sources including GQ and Food network. I seen yelp just rated it the best so we decided to give it a try. It is very clean and well staffed with very friendly and helpful staff. Tomatoes Apizza opened in 1998 in Farmington Hills and has three locations. The buffet is open Monday through Friday from 11 am to 2 pm for $12.99 per person and includes a drink, dessert and salad bar. They had 12 different pizzas out and they are all thin crust hand tossed and cooked in a fire brick oven over charcoal. They are very good pizzas and i can see why they are busy. Would i say they are number one in Michigan? NO but i will say they are definitely worth the $12.99 cost and have unique pizzas like crab that most places don't have. You can request a certain type of custom pizza if they don't have it out and they will make it for you at no additional charge. We definitely will go back and try the Spaghetti and other Italian dishes. The crust on the pizza's are thin and crispy.

Robert E.

Yelp
Stopped in to this location on our way home with a group of (5) kids and (2) adults. The food was delicious, the service was amazing, and they were able to seat us comfortably on a large table. Can't say enough about the great tasting pizza.

Chris K.

Yelp
Holy crap. This place was stunning. I know good New Haven pizza and this is some of the best pizza I have ever had in my life. This is not your typical Metro Detroit spot - and for Detroit-style I still love my Buddy's, but this is spectacular pizza. Service was really great - they took the time to look over my order, chatted with me, and made sure I had everything I needed. The pizza was incredibly good - so flavorful, delicious. We tried the garlic bread and the cheese garlic bread, and the garlic bread itself was a bit lacking - definitely go for the cheese bread, which was addictingly good. Salads were also very solid as well and packed with toppings. This spot has vaulted to the top of my MI pizza list and you need to check it out.

Doggie D.

Yelp
We like this place. The pizza is consistently excellent. We also like the salad bar...always fresh. The service is good too.

William P.

Yelp
Simple......this is the best pizzas I ever had is what my kids say for me I haven't had something like this in a long time. Very homey the server we had was understandable and nice and the overall aesthetic feels homely. I recommend everyone to go once anytime of the year.

C M.

Yelp
We got a salad and a small Naples sampler. It's not small :). The crust was near perfect and all toppings delicious. Top two are pepperoni and white pizza. My husband keeps asking when we will return. 9-7-2023

Piper R.

Yelp
Very yummy! Food came quick and was great. Would reccomend. If you want reference, I would say it's close to Connecticut pizza from the town of New Haven. If you haven't been to New Haven I would reccomend you visit, it is where YALE is located. I am a Yale alumni, but I still can't spell reccomend. TOMATOES APIZZA go visit now!!!!

Lori A.

Yelp
Thin crust pizza, several varieties. Waitress Mindy is fabulous along with her daughter. Salad bar never disappoints. Longtime customers. Dined there last night, had the awful experience of seeing and hearing the rudest family, (2 adults 5 children under 10) they were loud, trashed the table area, disregarded other customers peace and quiet, why? Mindy handled the situation well as I learned they are frequent customers. Hope there is something done about this.

Bradley B.

Yelp
A rare and delicious salad bar along with some of the best pizza I've had, made this stab in dark a success!!

Scott V.

Yelp
Love this place! Best salad & pizza bar ever. Everything is fresh. During lunch buffet you can ask for a pizza & they'll make it

Lindsey S.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite places to get pizza. I love a thin crust baked in a hot oven and this pizza fits the bill!! I would recommend 100%. My kids love it too. Especially the dessert pizza filled with Nutella. To die for. It is pricy though for a large pizza and the dessert pizza, but worth it!

Vic J.

Yelp
5 plus stars! I just drove over today for the lunch buffet and was beyond impressed with the pizza. The salad bar looked good, but I got lost in the wide variety of pizzas that kept showing up and ran out of room for salad. Most were great, a few were just good, but they all had the best very thin crust that I've had in years! Come hungry. I'll be back...

Amanda Y.

Yelp
We just moved into the area, and heard great things about the food here. We have not dined in, only ordered take out and delivery. By the time the delivery food got to the house, it wasn't as tasty as the food we picked up at the desk. Service was nice, food was good, the meatballs were delicious! It is a big expensive, so we don't go there more often, but it's worth it every once in a while!

Paul F.

Yelp
I went with my daughter for the first visit and had the buffet. The pizza was great. Came back with my wife and had their basic red sauce pizza. Again great! I am from the East Coast where they know to make pizza. This was as close as it comes to authentic pizza. The service was fast and pleasant. Can't say enough good about this place.

Patrice D.

Yelp
We've been back here for pizza a few times and have to say that their pizza is fantastic and their salads are huge. Definitely one of our go to favorites for pizza.

Romee B.

Yelp
Big fan of 20 years plus! Best buffet ever! Must be direct about how you like pizzas cooked is my only advice. It's being put in a brick oven which can cause burning so I usually have to say don't burn

Margaret W.

Yelp
Good most of the time. But not on a Thursday afternoon between 1 and 2 PM.. The pizza that I ordered was likely a leftover. from the buffet bar, just dressed up,with pepperoni and the $16 Naples salad was . mostly really large pieces. The worst part was that the salad was mostly stems.. My cat wouldn't even eat it. An expensive lunch for two.

Maureen L.

Yelp
I absolutely love Tomatoes Apizza, the green pizza is my favorite, my family loves the Classic Apizza. I grew up with Sally's, Pepe's and Modern Apizza and missed my New Haven Pizza. I'm glad we found Tomatoes Apizza!

James F.

Yelp
Great buffet! Lots of variety and everything stays fresh. Staff is extra helpful and went above and beyond to make items my kids enjoyed.

A B.

Yelp
Good pizza, but very expensive compared to other area options and they charge $6 for delivery. Be aware, if they don't like their tip they will call you up *before* they deliver and attempt to shake you down for more. I'm never ordering delivery here again.

Madeline B.

Yelp
Such a great deal for the lunch buffet! We have gone with as many as eight people and all been pleased. The pizza is hot and delicious. The salad bar is always well stocked. The place is clean. They play Frank Sinatra and rat pack music which just helps out everyone in a good mood. The garlic pizza is great.

Angela N.

Yelp
This is absolutely the best pizza it taste iamazing. Well done the way I like it . sauce and cheese is perfect..my favorite is the fresh mozzarella with the fresh basil leaves

Steven J.

Yelp
phenomenal pizza!! love the thin crust pizza! Everyone in Farmington knows this place!

Randee K.

Yelp
Fresh ingredients, thin crust and very good. Cute dining area with a buffet lunch that is reasonably priced and has a good variety of their pizzas. Service is good and the wait staff are nice.

Anthony B.

Yelp
Like great pizza? Like lunch buffets? You found your place. Excellent pizza with a lunch buffet for $12.75. Buffet comes with a salad bar that has only has fresh romaine lettuce, ceased, basalmic vinagrette or ranch. The grilled chicken breast on the salad bar is a great choice, though usually a little dry, but I get it that it needs to be fully cooked. The pies are thin with a great crust, cooks in a coal oven. Have a request? They'll make it.

Bridget D.

Yelp
Last time we ordered we were disappointed with the quality of the food. Spent aprox $120 and was not greatest. We ordered salad, pizza and bread. Seems like quality has gone down

James H.

Yelp
Legit east coast style. Fresh ingredients. Comfortable ambience and a great lunch buffet

Jenny F.

Yelp
Best pizza in town! Eating here is always a good time and provides the neighborhood dining out experience.

Stacy K.

Yelp
Every time I come here it's always a five and I've been coming here for a decade and a half! My kids practically grew up here! We have so many family gatherings here, my daughter makes Tomatoes Apizza her birthday meal every single year, no exceptions! Today was delish. They have my absolute favorite salad bar here. It's not big and does not have a lot of choices. But it's as if they knew all of my favorite toppings and made a salad bar around my own personal choices of absolute yumminess. They have lettuce, grilled chicken, crab, cheese, salami, chick peas, black olives, onions, tomatoes, three simple dressings, and pizza crust croutons. It's only $4.50 if you purchase a pizza, and absolutely worth it. Your tummy will thank you. We also went for a large half green, half classic with spinach. It was simply heaven in my mouth. I topped it off with a glass of Fat Tire. Having a few beers on tap and a small wine selection has elevated the restaurant, since those beverages go nicely with pizza and pasta. The pasta is decent. They also prepare an incredible Nutella pizza dessert if you still have room. There is no question why Tomatoes garnered national recognition for their food. Very, very craveable here.

Rita E.

Yelp
Love this restaurant! Great place to meet for lunch! Pizza and salad buffet is amazing - price is right- service is great! Can't recommend it enough!

Kate F.

Yelp
Went to Tomatoes last night. Dine in. Hadn't been in a few months. Prices went up. Not surprised. We ordered a large with pepperoni, mushroom and half sausage. I'm still in sticker shock. $4.75 for each topping. So, base price $25, plus $15 in toppings! Wow! $40! A bowl of spaghetti with meatballs. $20! Food is good, but...

Mercedes V.

Yelp
Not a fan of their pizza. Ordered the sampler of Thin crust pizza with crispy charred edges and soggy bottom. I prefer the thick crust pizza of Plum Market. I've read a lot of 5 star reviews of this restaurant however I'm not convinced based on recent experience. I'm eager to try the pasta dishes for my next visit.
