"What It Is: A tiny Peruvian spot on the border of Koreatown and East Hollywood Perfect For: Lunch, Cheap Eats We’ve been wanting to check out this new spot for a while, and we finally stopped in last week for lunch. Turns out this tiny place is serving incredible Peruvian food. We tried a bowl of leche de tigre we had to keep ourselves from picking up and drinking from, and lomo saltado that was super tender and flavorful. There’s not much to the space itself, but the food more than makes up for the simple atmosphere. Verdict: Come here for excellent, affordable Peruvian food. We’ve added it to the Hit List." - jess basser sanders, brant cox, brett keating

"LA is full of tiny little spots you could pass by a million times without knowing they serve amazing food. Tomboloco is a new spot that falls in this category. Located on the border of Koreatown and East Hollywood, this place is serving incredible, affordable Peruvian food. The interior is plain and it’s cash-only, but you will want to drink your ceviche and there somehow won’t be enough lomo soltado despite the big portion. Best eaten at lunch on a hot day. photo credit: Jakob Layman" - Amy Clark

Came with my Peruvian family and I have to say… the customer was a 5 star from chief Luis and waiter Danila. Definitely coming back again. Highly recommend.

Best Seco I’ve had! My husband is Peruvian and we lived there, glad to find a place that does seco RIGHT! My daughter devoured her lomo saltado and the chicha (purple corn drink) is freshly made and delish!!!!! My mom tried a bit of everything and loved all of it. I’ve posted in groups and shared the menu of this place because I want others to enjoy it as my family did tonight. Thank you! Next time we are over in east LA, we will come hungry and leave satisfied.

Google
This is the most authentic Peruvian restaurant I’ve found in LA, a true hidden gem. 10/10 recommend. I’m peruvian and I’m so glad I found a place that the food tastes just like back home! Buenasooo

Google
The food is not that good the price is $$ the food looks good but the taste is not, the chaufa of seafood the rice was soggy and tasteless the jalea taste good but overpriced 20dlls, the bistec aló pobre l ask for medium term but it was to dry overall is not too bad but not good either

Google
Came with my family to enjoy some authentic Peruvian food and was not disappointed. The lomo saltado was delicious as well as several other plates we ordered. The owner was very pleasant and enthusiastic which made the food even more enjoyable. 5 stars for the Peruvian music that played throughout the meal. Overall a must recommend and worth returning for.

Yelp
My friends take me here for my birthday since I'm Peruvian... And that food was Great some plates better than others.. Look on the picture for my review on each plate i try them all lol. Customer Service is great they received is with a smile and make sure we have everything we need . Parking lot is tight and decorations are cute...

Julia V.

Yelp
Food was alright as a fellow Peruvian. They racially profiled my man and they only accepted cash or zelle which was very surprising and not safe. I was very disappointed & angered by my experience especially since I wanted my boyfriend to try Peruvian food for the first time. They completely tainted that experience for us.

Jose C.

Yelp
Chanfainita, one of my favorite dishes always available when I come. The cook is amazing, and this dish is very rare to find in any restaurant. Thank you Tomboloco!

Pedro E.

Yelp
They lied and rip off people, I ordered a meal for 2 and all I got was for one they charged me $20 and were very rude when I complained. Me mentieron y me robaron , ordene Cena para dos pero solo me dieron para una persona y cuando me queje fueron groceros me cobraron $20 . Ps. I saw a giant roach crawling towards the cooking area

Marissa M.

Yelp
The Lomo Saltado was awesome. I definitely had more tan I could eat in one sitting! This place is a hidden gem and everything on the menu sounds great, but my friends were looking at my plate with envy, so order what I had! Haha! Tips: 1) bring cash 2) sit near the doors for ventilation 3) order the larger soda if you're with a friend

Tia M.

Yelp
Free gated parking. Best Seco I've had! My husband is Peruvian and we lived there, glad to find a place that does seco RIGHT! Yelp
My husband and I were on our way to an exhibit. I saw this place and said stop there ! Best choice I made, authentic quality Peruvian food!

Lexie L.

Yelp
So good! Love coming here for the pollo a la brasa and alfajores! The service is also nice and friendly ambiance :)

Classy B.

Yelp
This place has the most authentic food and I would know because I'm Peruvian. Don't forget to ask for hot sauce because their home made ocopa is what adds the extra flavor no other restaurants have. Just a reminder to order your picarones 20 minutes in advance because they take a while to make because they have to warm up the oil at a perfect temperature so the dough forms perfectly :)

Shivaughn P.

Yelp
The food was so good. Cooked fresh. I highly recommend it. The rotisserie chicken and fries were really good!

Mercedes G.

Yelp
La mejor comida peruana aquí en los angeles, buena sazón, buenos precios. La atención muy buena, mesero muy amable.

Dylan F.

Yelp
Quite frankly I instantly fell in love with this restaurant! I've been getting more into Peruvian food lately, and I knew this was the real deal when I got there everybody was speaking Spanish. I sat down, it wasn't too busy. I really didn't know what to order, found myself torn between the steak and French fries or steak and noodles. I didn't know it was gonna be like a chicken fried steak over a bed of pesto noodles with Parmesan cheese! Plus they give you a couple potato wedges on the side. Sooo incredibly good! I've already been back once and look forward to returning again with friends or family. Heads up tho, they're cash only

Aida S.

Yelp
Excelente food and service My favorite is the Anticuchos awesome flavor and great prices

V. K.

Yelp
I Yelped this one and the stars help my decision to choose this place. I realized the "C" grade as soon as I sat down, I ordered Ají de Gallina because the worker suggested it. My to go dish is Lomo Saltado as you can probably see in my reviews; today I decided to try their Ají de Gallina even though it was my first time at this place. I was pleased when I saw the amount of food but it was mostly potatoes, thick sauce and very little chicken. Flavor was lacking. They do not serve bread. They only accept cash, they have an ATM machine inside. By the way, they don't provide receipts. First and last visit for me, it is definitely overpriced!!!

Kevin E.

Yelp
This place is consistently amazing!! It all started with the family special with a chicken and 3 sides for less than $25... I was impressed. I decided to visit with my wife to dine in a week later. Even more impressed. I've had this place numerous times including when my wife and I stayed the night in the hospital after giving birth to our son, and right now as I'm writing this review! My favorite dish of all is the chicken and fries but everything this delicious! The best part next to the food is the service... the nicest people in the world working here! If you are looking to try something different for dinner, I strongly urge you to try this gem!!

Ariana V.

Yelp
Wow best Peruvian restaurant in LA!!!! Amazing food and service!!!!! I highly recommend this place!! coming back really soon, felt like home

Yovy D.

Yelp
Cash only!! Very clean - some parking available and great attention it's kind of pricey and cash only disclaimer caught me off guard as rarity from eating though I was so tired and hungry that

Jimmy R.

Yelp
this place is empty for a reason . ordered take out $25 mix seafood plate and they don't even give you tostadas. way overpriced

Rose N.

Yelp
Went on a Friday afternoon. Food was yummy! Service was great . We are definitely going back to try more food. The portions were great, the flavors were amazing. So glad we found a new Peruvian spot! Definitely going back on the weekend for some Caldo de Gallina !! Recommend!

Danny M.

Yelp
Just another tasty hole in the wall. They have Peruvian Tamales, which I love, and they do it right. Lomo Saltado, was also very good. The downside is......CASH only.

Luis H.

Yelp
Best Peruvian tamales ever! Chicharrón also very good! Still need more visits to taste all their menu but so far, very good!

Karen M.

Yelp
It was my first time at this place, I had been told by some Peruvian friends that this restaurant had authentic so u was really excited. I parked in their very small lot with my extra long car so that wasn't easy. And as I'm doing that I was "helped" by this very condescending man. We go in and they have a karaoke event going on and most of the patrons there were gathered and all very intoxicated. The person who came to take my order asked my friend if she was Peruvian and she said "of course" he told her about some dishes that were available. She ordered one of those and then he looks at me and he says "you can just order a lomo saltado" in the most sarcastic tone. I guess he was implying that since I wasn't Peruvian that would be what I would order. I went ahead an told him what I wanted and even though it was on the menu they didn't have it. So I went ahead and ordered a Lomo saltado. It came cold, the fries were cold, the meat was not soft nor flavorful. I came to learn later that the man who took our order was the owner. Very poor customer service from him. He's rude and the place is a dump, not clean, super messy and the food is horrible to have such an attitude to patrons. I definitely won't be going back.

Vanessa T.

Yelp
NEVER AGAIN. We placed an order for two entrees and a starter - then imagine our surprise when the bill comes for $60. Apparently the starter which was according to the waitress "split" was charged as two entrees! When inquiring to the owner he shrugged and said "well, you ate it". Then he proceeded to say that it was an error on the waitress and on us (the customer) but that it would be taken out of her paycheck. WHAT?!? My husband and I schooled him on customer service and gave the waitress a $20 tip and vowed never to return. Lastly can we talk about the place being CASH ONLY?! Such a shady establishment.

Izmenia E.

Yelp
Amazing food !!!! The owner is always very welcoming as there dishes are always good. My husband always get lomo saltado and i always pick from his plate yummy 10/10

Ernesto T.

Yelp
No matter if it is to expensive for good and flavored food and place nice and clean but all opposite nasty and dirty place no a/c and no card is accepted they force you to use atm machine inside restaurant if can be call restaurant. Ceviche are $16 for small plate not enough to feed a kid inca cola are $6 everything plus tax and tip, on top of that uncomfortable place.

Geraldine P.

Yelp
Best Lomo in LA is right here!! Good authentic peruvian food and people!!! Keep in mind it Cash only!!

Rafael A.

Yelp
I'm always on the lookout for chicken joints specifically pollo a la brasa or pollo al Carbon I came across Tomboloco on google maps, lets start with the good their fries and green ahi (sauce) are 9/10. Their chicken on the other hand kinda tasteless and below average nothing special 4/10. Want excellent Peruvian Chicken try Takatis on Van Nuys you won't regret it!

Bill P.

Yelp
Love this place better than the crowded Mario's or the listless Don Felix with the delicious food and deep orange interior. We had the Parihuela (seafood soup) which tasted like lobster bisque but filled with a lot of shrimp, fish, 3 mussels and 1 prawn. This really is a full satisfying meal on its own. My friends had the Tallarin Saltado de Carne (Beef w/noodles) and Saltado de Marisco (Seafood w/noodles) which were both good and not too greasy. We also all shared a Arroz Chaufa de Carne (Chicken fried rice) and I would have single handed ate the whole plate if I wasn't watching my diabetes. This is now my go to Peruvian restaurant since it also has its own parking lot and the service is warm and friendly.

Johana G.

Yelp
Based off their Lomo Saltado- 3 stars. It was ok The meat was not cooked how I like my lomo saltado. Their Maracuya juice was a 4 stars Customer service experience 2 stars

William C.

Yelp
Good portions and great quality of meat . Definitely the best Peruvian joint in the area. I hope they start to get busier because the food is great and taste fresh. I will definitely be back soon !

Susamoy A.

Yelp
Food is not that bad, but definitely not as good as some other Peruvian restaurants I've tried. Most famous Peruvian dish maybe Lomo Saltado & I don't think Tomboloco is the best place to try that. Gravy lacked flavor and onion & potato didn't taste fresh. I think, the worst part was the rice. It was hard, chewy & not cooked properly. Maybe it had been sitting in the rice cooker for a while. I understand they can't cook rice every time someone orders the combo, but most of their combos come with rice. So they should have it fresh or at least not hard like that. Got the 1/4 pollo (chicken) as well. They messed up my order & instead of rice gave me salad. I didn't find out till I got back home, since it was to go order. But was I glad! I wasn't sure the chicken was grilled or broasted. It was brined chicken I guess. The salt went as deep as to the bone. Couldn't taste anything else other than salt. It was simply disgusting. Lost appetite for chicken for next few weeks. Cash only joint. I don't like this kinda businesses, cuz they might not pay the taxes since there's no paper trail. If they're charging taxes, I want receipt. Why wouldn't a business accept cards?! Overall, not a bad restaurant, but nowhere near a good one. I'd rather go to other Peruvian restaurants for my cravings

Miguel P.

Yelp
Where do I begin. I didn't get to dine in, but my wife, sister and I order for pick up. From the beginning the lady that answered the phone was very polite, helpful and very accommodating. I decided to try this place because I was tired of the ogre at Don Felix, don't know how he has customers. We would normally get food from there at least 3-4 times in a month, but dreaded ordering from him because of his attitude. So I appreciate her being so polite. We order two lomos, sopa la minuta and a ceviche de pescado. All dishes were outstanding, seasoning, dressing and appearance was very presentable. Lomo was cooked very well and had a home like Peruvian taste to it, ceviche was a big plus because we all know that most Peruvian places don't serve this plate well. The soup was also very tasty, tender meat and extra noodles!! We will defiantly come back and order food. Hope this place continues with good service, good food consistency. Good luck to the owners, so far so good!! Que viva el peru Carajo!

Mariela F.

Yelp
Very good Peruvian food! Real Peruvian flavors. We ordered Combo Loco Marino y Pollo a la Brasa. Highly recommended.

Jesus V.

Yelp
CASH ONLY. Now that I got that out of the way, this place is a lot closer to me than Mario's so I decided to give it a try. Place is relatively small, parking holds about 10 cars? Could be less could be more. I went super basic and ordered a lomo saltado to go, the wait was about 10 minutes which was fine with me I enjoyed some chicha morada while I waited. The lomo saltado was definitely good, meat was tender and the green sauce (I believe it's called ají) was really good. 4 stars because its cash only. They have some nice workers and friendly too. I'd go back.

Stefan B.

Yelp
this spot is super new! just recently tried it with a friend. each of us got lomo saltado (basic lol) and it was so good. honestly their lomo saltado is better than mario's and don felix because the steak this place uses is more tender. the whole dish is flavorful throughout, and the fact that it barely opened a week or two ago and when I went it ended up being almost fully packed... i think the neighborhood approves. i love that this place is here now cause it's like a 15 minute walk from my house :) mario's and don felix have such stressful parking lots lol also - they give you real butter for your bread unlike mario's and don felix. service is good and kind, the default language is spanish but on this stretch of beverly that's to be expected. i really really wanna try the ceviche next. this guy next to us got an order of lomo saltado and ceviche and he was literally drinking the last bits of lemon juice from his ceviche plate. lol ! and i had a look at the ceviche and it looked amazing. seems like a family business so i hope they all do well!! they will cus the food is bomb. their aji sauce is so good too, i had some in my leftover box (literally just the sauce) and i was eating it. alone. lol oh also. cash only!!! but there's an atm at the 99 cent/discount store up the street.

Mimi R.

Yelp
Had the Lomo Saltado, yucca fries, and it was very good. The place is pretty small and divey, but very clean and they had a A rating. food was pretty decent, I think the Meat was a tad bit bland, but pretty good overall. I would like to come back to try the other dishes on the menu. There is plenty of parking out front with a good size parking lot...

Tommy K.

Yelp
Ordered 3 plates 2 weeks ago during the pandemic Ordered lomo saltado. Had better at other places.not tasty. The steak i ordered was bland too The last dish was the picante de mariscos. Did not see the plate until i went home. Was really disappointed. The plate was around 18$ and just had a little pieces of shrimp and some seafood. The plate looked less than half with food. Rip off Dont waste your time and money. I will rather drive down to Marios and wait for my food. It is worth the drive and wait time for generous portions and much better food

Nancy P.

Yelp
This restaurant just opened and even though it's a whole on the wall, their food compensates for the small space. The staff is very friendly and welcoming which is a plus at any restaurant. They served free aguadito (chicken soup) as an appetizer in addition to traditional bread and butter and the aguadito was delicious. We ordered a Parijuela and it was hearty and full of seafood. We also ordered a Saltado de Mariscos and it was super tasty. Overall we had a great experience and we will be coming back to enjoy great Peruvian food.

Jose O.

Yelp
Probably the few places where the season is like the house, acceptable prices as well as the cuts and portions of the dishes, enough for the appetite of the people. I remember going up to 30 years ago in Peru where you find places very much at home The most important thing after that there was no havoc on the body which means that there were fresh products that they offered. Thanks Tomboloco!!!!

Roland P.

Yelp
Oh no this place really sucks ass. Sorry the services is poor. Please don't compare it with delicious Mario's. They are pricey for their poor quality food. They're always organizing special event and only offers ready food. And It's cash only. And they got a C and it's hidden so no one can see their unhealthy score

Saia F.

Yelp
Wow ! All I have to say is that the food was great !!!!! And cheap !!! This will be a place in mind for me when I travel back out this way. I highly recommend this place even being my 1st time here it was great. I'm on my 24th Peruvian restaurant I know !!! This place is it . Buenazo!!!!!!

Alonso T.

Yelp
Delicious. Good price. Great service. The lomo saltado is amazing and the ceviche is very good.

Markosz01 R.

Yelp
What a simple place and yet good food. It was very deliciosa they even went the extra mile to make a soup for my daughter.

Marimar H.

Yelp
Food was ok at best, a big disappointing. The huancaina sauce tasted like it came from a flavorless can.

Radiant S.

Yelp
In age with a multitude of methods for payment, a cash only place has to be exceptional for you to trade in the convenience. We thought this place had ok food. We really wanted to like it. But it just didn't have that yumminess we have found with Peruvian food.

Scott R.

Yelp
They take the order wrong because their English is bad. The food is bad. Had the fried rice.

Liliana C.

Yelp
para mi es el mejor restaurante peruano en Los Ángeles, yo me moví para Oregón , pero cada vez q tengo oportunidad de venir de visita al condado de orange, no puedo irme sin pasar a comer al tomboloco restaurante, 100 % recomendado

Azalea T.

Yelp
This place is basic. The food is VERY BLAND. I got "lomo saltado".. taste nothing like lomo saltado and the beef was burnt. The fries tasted as if they were frozen and just reheated. They have jugo de "maracuya" but don't buy it, it's just powder, no actual fruit in it. Everything is BLAND BLAND BLAND. Waitress did not ONCE come by for refills or to ask if all is alright. All the employees here just TALK. Don't pay attention to their customers, they just chat... avoid this place.

Gabby A.

Yelp
Great food and friendly stuff. Always good to try new food and this place is one the best places to try Peruvian food .
