The Best Restaurants In Tokyo

"You came to Tokyo prepared to spend a lot of money on excellent sushi, but you forgot to make a necessary reservation. Thankfully, Sushi Tomita is here for your last-minute needs, it’s less well known, but as good as any of the classics. After walking in you’ll be escorted into a basement with a six-seat counter that’s cozy and cool. You could sit here, but if you have a party of four to six, try making a last-minute reservation in the private dining room. A secret door past the counter will lead you to a beautiful space with tatami (Japanese strawmat) floors. You can sit down at your own private countertop where the sushi chef will personally serve you all night. It’s the exact same food and price as the counter, but with a more intimate experience - and it’s great to be able to talk to you friends without having to worry about annoying locals trying to have a quiet meal." - josh layne

Great traditional sushi. Super traditional setting with a single chef supported by one member to the staff. Five counter seats and one private room available (private room ideally for 4/5 people max). The menu is set and the chef offers the daily menu to guests. Booking is not mandatory but highly recommended for lunch and dinner. It’s pretty hard to get bookings in so book early if you are keen. Menu is ¥10,000 per person at lunch. Sushi traditional but not too fish if you are not a sushi experts. For non Japanese speakers communication is quite limited as the staff speaks only Japanese.

I went to dinner tonight. It was phenomenal- one of the best sushi places in Tokyo. I was so full after I left- which is rare for an Omakase place! The food was fresh and the chefs did their best to speak english and explain the fish we were getting. 11/10 recommend.

Incredible Top Quality Sushi. Served Omakase style. Expect to pay $250 per person but if you want a once in a lifetime sushi experience this is it. We were lucky enough to walk in for dinner but seating is only about 6-9 at full capacity. Makes it for an interactive experience with the chef who prepares everything in front of you.

We went for an Omakase in the evening. Every course was absolutely stunning. This chef masters the balance of saltyness, sourness and umami, which leads to an incredible flavour experience. If i could i would never stop eating at this place, can’t get any better for me.

We came in for lunch and while the sushi was delicious, the chef was either sick or had allergies and the constant sniffling/runny nose completely killed our appetite. Our friend actually stopped eating halfway through the meal and asked the chef to stop serving him

I have been living in Japan for 12 years and went to A LOT of sushi restaurants. Tomita sushi is definitely in my top 5. It would cost you 30,000 yen to get that quality in Tokyo. The chief and his wife are really nice. We went there with a 3 year old kid and it was perfectly fine. Highly recommended if you are in the region.

We had a perfect sushi course for lunch selected by the chef. It was one of the best sushi we had during our two weeks in Japan. Highly recommended!

Extremely good value lunch set. 10 pieces of sushi and 6 sashimi/cooked dishes weaved in between the sushi course for 10000yen. The first sushi served was the Toro which they have also provided the details of the exact tuna (the weight as well as the region its from) which I find a very nice touch. The fish pieces were all very generously cut and although this was not the highest lunch tier that they provide I feel like this middle tier was enough already.
