Not a good place for seniors. Poor lighting choices. Just try to apply makeup with the lighting provided. Lack of outlets and chargers. Shower floor could be very unsafe for unstable seniors. Black room divider in bathroom I have almost walked into several times. They say they have coffee in room, but it is an expesso machine, not straight coffee as I was expecting. Not a fan of expresso. Lots of switches are hard to find as they blend into their surroundings. Outlet in the bathroom wouldn't take some plugs. The bed was nice.

We haven’t finished our trip yet and felt the need to comment on how great our experience has been so far! Shoutout to Nick for excellent customer service and truly caring that we had the best experience. The views and location are great, and the bar on the 4th floor provided such an intimate vibe with excellent cocktails.

Great hotel and amenities. Was perfect size room for one person. Super clean and modern. Great bed sheets and quality of beddings. Location is hard to beat for downtown action or 6th street access. Lots of walking opportunities. Highly recommend!

Beautiful hotel! Yes, the rooms are small and quirky, but we knew that going in and were pleasantly surprised by how well the space is designed. The location is great. It is a bit noisy at night, but having a sound machine in the room helped a lot. We had Globalist benefits and enjoyed breakfast at the diner, although service was very slow, so don't expect a quick breakfast. I just wish we could have stayed a bit longer to take advantage of the beautiful pool area!

Google
The Thompson is one of my top hotels to stay at. I love the vibe, it’s clean, and the staff are always very friendly. The Tommie is no exception! You get the same perks of The Thompson just a smaller room because it is targeted for solo travelers. We only stayed one night so the smaller room was perfect for us. If you are not a solo traveler or you are staying longer than one night I definitely recommend staying at The Thompson. Both hotels are under one roof; the Tommie is just to the left of the elevators (when you step out) and the Thompson is to the right. The pool area was very small but it was a nice view and had a good ambiance! If you want a pool chair you should go early in the day because there really is no place to lay your things otherwise. One side of the pool is pool loungers and the other side is reserved pool beds. They definitely needed more pool attendants because the service was kind of slow so we went to the bar directly for our drinks.

From the moment we arrived, Khristian, the front desk manager, welcomed us warmly and made us feel at home. She greeted us with a genuine smile, upgraded our room, and even treated us to cocktails by the pool. She truly went above and beyond to make sure we felt as comfortable as possible throughout our stay. The hotel itself is definitely worth the price, offering great value for what you pay. What made the experience truly special, however, was Khristian’s exceptional service and personal attention. This kind of treatment is not something to be taken for granted. Especially after staying at another hotel in the city, where we unfortunately did not receive such hospitality, the difference here was remarkable. Thanks to Khristian’s professionalism, kindness, and generosity, our experience at this hotel was simply outstanding.

The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff were friendly, but overall the experience didn’t quite meet expectations for the price point.||||Service throughout our stay felt slow and inconsistent — from basic requests to food and dining. While I understand hotels can get busy, the delays and lack of attention to detail were disappointing for a property in this range.||||None of these things alone would have been a big deal, but combined, they made the stay feel less enjoyable than expected. With quicker service and a bit more attention to detail, this hotel could easily live up to the great first impression it gives.

Google
On the plus side, it's located in downtown with an excellent pool and gym. On the minus, the rooms are very small; the rooms compare to some of the smaller hotel rooms I've stayed at in Japan. Mattress quality and amenities are great, but there's hardly room to open a suitcase or walk. Individuals with ADA needs might have issues. The toilets are also located in the glass-shower enclosure; important to know if you are sharing the room. The hotel is also next to 6th street; 'City-View' rooms (east-side) will probably experience some noise. Hyatt has multiple other properties in the city (such as the Hyatt Regency or the Hyatt Centric). This hotel is great for singles or well-established couples, probably not best for families.

Yelp
Rooms: at the tommie they are small but cozy. Great option if you don't intend to spend much time in your room. Location: it's close to the loudest section of 6th street, great if that's what you're looking for but not great if you want some peace. Service: quite disappointing. Calling the front desk or room service from the room almost always took 3-5 calls to get someone to answer. Food service order was "lost" twice which caused us to wait over 2 hours for our breakfast order. I'm not sure if they are short staffed but the service was primary factor in the star rating. With all of the great hotel option in Austin, I won't be coming back.

Yelp
Loved our overnight stay at Tommie Austin. Arrived late but Terry at the front desk checked us in quickly and efficiently. He acknowledged our Hyatt status, upgraded us to a top floor quiet room pool view and gave us 2 chips for 2 margaritas at Wax Myrtle bar on the 4th floor. Tommie is in the same building as Thompson Hotel, they share the same facilities, pool and check in area. We were in room 1416, very cozy, and it quickly reminded us of Marriott's Moxy hotel rooms. We slept well, enjoyed the strong shower pressure and cold AC to beat the Austin heat. Location is perfect for bar hopping on 6th street! Thank you Allison for reminding us of the 2pm checkout! We will definitely pick this hotel again on our next Austin trip.

Yelp
Great hotel, we've stayed multiple times and will continue to return. The staff is always friendly and willing to go above and beyond, and every time we have stayed there the check in and check out process has gone smoothly. The rooms are small, which is the only downside, but for me personally that doesn't affect my stay enough to lower the rating. I can see how it would for some, as there isn't much space to unpack and would be cramped sharing with a family or friends. The gym, bar, and on site restaurants are all great and there are gluten free options for breakfast as well which is always a major perk!

Yelp
Great hotel right off 6th Street. Checking in was a breeze. Front desk staff very nice. It rained during our stay, we were offered umbrellas to borrow. Very clean hotel. We stayed on the Tommie side. Small European style room. The free drinks weren't drinkable. The pool area is nice. Wax Myrtles has a nice sitting area outside too. Market restaurant for grab and go snacks. Everything you need. Hotel staff is eager to accommodate in any way possible. I would stay there again.

Yelp
I hope this saves someone hassle and money. They have literally shrunk all of the livable space out of these rooms, and all that's left is a bed for you to cry yourself to sleep. The rooms are so small that there is no place to put your luggage without bumping into it. No table, drawers, counter space, nothing. There is no bathroom. There is a glass shower with a toilet in it. Turning the light on to go to the bathroom at night lights up the whole room. The sink is out in the room right next to the bed. The coffee station, or rather, the water kettle, is on a tray on the bed and you have to put it on the floor to sleep. My wife and I cannot get over how small and impractical this room is. If we weren't with a group we'd change hotels. It's fine for one person.

Yelp
I have no idea what the bad reviews are on here? Honestly, from the second I checked in, the front desk staff was polite and super helpful, gave me suggestions on where to go for lunch and checked me in right away. The room was cool, yeah it's small but it's super modern and clean. Perfect location close to everything and the pool and bar was well stocked and maintained. I would come back anytime I'm in Austin

Yelp
Pros: The service by the staff is some of the best I have ever had!!!!! The restaurants, bar, and coffee shop have pretty decent prices. The bar does a happy hour from 4-5 which includes $2 oysters. The location is great if you're staying for a conference at the convention center. Cons: The rooms are really, really, small for the price you pay. The toilet and shower are literally in the same closet. I would stay here again but I was a little shocked by the size of the room. It was very clean and nice, but tiny! The impeccable service by the staff will bring me back.

Yelp
For the money and location this hotel is an excellent addition to the Hyatt Brand, with that said it's not for everyone, but the more luxurious and traditional Thompson Hotel is in the same building of the Thommie as an alternative. The check in process is at the hotel coffee/wine bar, not to be confused with the Thompson front desk which is 10 feet away from the coffee bar. Coffee ($5.00 a cup) and wine are available for purchase. There is a normal hotel front desk, but that is the Thompson lobby, not the Thommie. Kind of confusing as there are two different hotels that essentially share the same space. The rooms reminded me of a tiny house because it was small, yet cleverly designed to maximize space. Essentially the incredibly comfortable king size bed takes up most of the room and the toilet is in the same area as the shower. As a solo traveler the toilet in the shower concept did not bother me, but could be problematic for people sharing a room. The bed itself was an A+ for comfort, my shower lacked pressure, but they just opened and are working out a few kinks. The restaurants and pool were not open at the time of this review, but the gym was. This was by far the most expansive and state of the art gym I've ever seen at any hotel. Peloton bikes, a full weight room,TRX station, and top of the line Cybex equipment. The gym is 6 out of 5 stars. I believe the gym will be shared by a residential tower and of course the Thompson. I would stay here again for the gym alone. Great hotel, especially as a solo traveler, but has its quirks.

Yelp
I'll never stay here again, and I'm only halfway through my stay :( Pros: Great location, extremely clean rooms, no carpet, luxury feel. Tommie side rooms are tiny but thoughtfully laid out. I want to love it SO MUCH. But the valet and staff make this hotel an absolute waste of money. Parking is $55/night, which is ... ya know, not great, but that's okay. The first morning, I waited about 20 minutes for my car. Which made me late to my meeting. But they were busy, so totally fine. That afternoon, I texted the valet 15 minutes early so my car would be ready. I got a text almost 20 minutes later saying there were no valets available. So I walked down to the stand and THREE valets were standing there. They apologized, but it was almost 40 minutes of waiting total. And again, late for my meeting even though I planned ahead. I have never complained (hi, I'm an introvert ), but I felt like the management should know ... and all four front desk workers looked at me like I was crazy. One guy said valet is a third party vendor so they can't help. Another said I was supposed to call the front desk, and he "didn't know anything" about a texting service. Another asked to see the valet card and then read me the instructions ... which I followed to a T :) I'm not an idiot. They just treated me like one. I get that it was a mistake by the valet company ... twice? But it ruined my entire experience. And you can't really charge $55 parking for over an hour of waiting in just one day. My time is worth more. Literally lol Not being able to get my car, then treated like a "stupid woman" when I followed every direction ... I'll never come back. I cried recounting the story because I felt so silly. I travel to Austin for work every month, and I'll be going back to Arrive. It's the best if you need an alternative. ‍

Yelp
In the last 25 years I've stayed in teeny weenie Manhattan hotel rooms but never once have I been required to physically crawl across a king bed to manipulate the drapes because a column that protrudes into the room blocks the way. Why Hyatt thinks anyone would be ok with this arrangement, especially for $300, is a mystery. This room should be a housekeeping closet. I'll never stay here again and am thinking of never staying at Hyatt properties again because of their greed and lack of consideration for their guests. Disgusting. Update next day: came back to my room exhausted after a long day. No maid service. The Tommie only has it every other day so if you're staying for two nights you're out of luck. $300/night and I get to make my own bed. Hyatt has lost it's mind. Restaurant: $30 shrimp entree was served raw. Sent it back and it was re-served undercooked.

Yelp
Raphael was so kind. He brought towels to us and saw we had our dog Mila with us. He came back with organic cookies. The rooms are designed beautifully. Great bar and great service at all venues within hotel. Good for people traveling with their beloved pets!
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
The rooms are insanely small for what you're paying. Yes, the dimensions are given when booking, but it feels like a closet when you're inside. This is TX, not NY. No privacy in the bathroom, and horrible lighting. Don't even try to do your makeup in there. Also, there's no outlet by the bathroom mirror so you have to sit on the floor in a separate area to blow dry your hair. Do not stay here.
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
Tiny crowded loud. Do not recommend. There are better places for the same price. Recommend going to pool from 8:00-10:00 pm for a night swim above the city.

Bailey W.

Yelp
Amazing place. Immediately hit by the cozy and secluded entrance, and then greeted by sincere and enthusiastic staff. Willie, Amelie, and Dejuan each individually made sure we were welcomed and happy with our stay. Great service and such a clean place.

Rick E.

Yelp
Beware predatory hidden fees: I was charged a $35 "resort fee" that was not disclosed to me before booking, during check-in or during check-out. Instead, they hid it in the valet fee - I would not have even known about it if I hadn't called to ask about the unexpected charge. Illegal? No. Slimy and predatory? Absolutely.
google avatar

Tandi M.

Yelp
Nice hotel. Room is relatable to an Ikea decorated prison cell. No room to move or unpack. Toilet is in the shower. Food options, limited in hotel and nothing to rave about. You can do better
google avatar

Jared W.

Yelp
Let's get it out of the way, the rooms are small. They are small but appointed very well. Clean and comfortable. Staff was great everywhere from the front desk, valet, bell hop or whatever the appropriate title is, and the diner. I received excellent service. I was traveling alone, meeting friends in Austin and it was a great stay. It can be noisy on 6th Street and you are right there but it was no issue for me. They offer ear plugs if it is for you. I would recommend staying here for its location to a younger traveler or couple for the great value that was provided.

Nicole W.

Yelp
The food was mediocre at best. The service - awful Front desk - rude, immature, not helpful at all. Good luck getting any room service in a timely manner Wax Myrtle on site restaurant hostess told us 30 minute wait. Waited an hour and 40 minutes then gave up. Bartenders inattentive and rude. Chose this hotel for its reviews but was very disappointed. Unless you are in your 20's don't stay downtown Austin at all
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
I'm a bit shocked with these reviews, as you truly get what you pay for here. Since the Thompson was fully booked, I went with the tommie mainly for the location and ability to access the same amenities. The tommie is brand new, clean, has great amenities and restaurants. I received really great customer service too from Liz and Jesse at the front desk (coffee/wine bar area). Truly a really great experience if you're not planning to be in your room as much! When entering the hotel, the Thompson door is on the left and the tommie is on the right. I was greeted immediately upon check-in, and also received a complimentary upgrade without even prompting. The room was pretty spacious based on reviews and the room overlooked the pool area. Pretty cool concept and would stay at another tommie in the future. Wax Myrtle's is on the 4th floor of this hotel, and I'm a huge fan of this restaurant. I could eat the whipped feta and chicken everyday given the opportunity. Same chef as Aba if you've been to one of the locations in Chicago or Austin (SoCo). The pool and gym were also great perks as well as the diner bar on the 1st floor. Definitely give it a shot if you're traveling solo or with your significant other/friend. I'll definitely be back!

Nicole W.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay at the tommie! The rooms are modern and clean. Small for sure, but as a solo traveler, it was perfect for me. There are a lot of homeless people nearby on 6th street, so you just need to be alert when walking around, especially earlier in the day when there's not a lot of people around, but otherwise it's a great location and very central. All of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
First let me say this is the smallest hotel room I've ever had! It is so small the toilet is in the shower. The desk shares the same space as the sink for the bathroom. He gets a three because it has great air conditioning. The master light switch is at the door Which turns on the light in the bathroom and you can't turn it off from anywhere else. So to go to bed at night you have to go turn off the switch and then stumble back in the dark. Just once I would like a hotel designer to stay in his/her room that he/she designs.
google avatar

Yelp
Valet & Management was great, but the room service was awful. The pool was closed and we didn't know till we were there on vacation. Everything was very confusing.

J C.

Yelp
Room was TINY. Shower and toilet are together!! .. I felt claustrophobic. You can not walk around the bed. Horrible place ... the only place to sit is the bed. No closet. Not even appropriate for a Motel 6!
google avatar

Krystal B.

Yelp
This hotel was great. Small room, yes and thankfully we didn't have our kids with us as it was a get away for us. I did not like the shower/toilet combo but I can see why the did it to save space. The bed was so comfy and not skimpy on the amount of pillows. The view was pretty and the pool is nice. The management was amazing and helpful as well. We will be back again for our next little get away.

Yelp
Came here for the Austin marathon and had a terrible experience. They should have prepared for the increase in business with such a large event happening a block away from them. The "coffee bar" does not have coffee, when you order a coffee they put espresso over ice and charge you $9. The employees did not seem properly trained on the espresso machine and they were very flustered. My friend ordered a latte and the espresso tasted burnt. Customer service was non-existent, the employees seemingly annoyed by our presence. Would not recommend.

Shana F.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel and excellent service. Definitely would stay again. Briana is an expert in assisting the client with a smile. The pool is so relaxing.

Carson G.

Yelp
We had a terrible experience here. We are Hyatt of World Members, and we've enjoyed the perks. We also paid a premium rate to get double points on the Hyatt credit card. The room rate was about the same as most room rates we pay for normal rooms at normal hotels (usually Hyatt properties). We were not greeted as World of Hyatt Members when we arrived, and even though we could have checked in hours earlier, when we arrived at 3:00 p.m. to check-in, our room was not ready. While we waited about an hour, we listened to the front desk tell 3 or 4 other people whose rooms weren't ready that their rooms were being prioritized. They told us the same thing, but then we waited for an hour....We also did not get a preferential room as World of Hyatt members even though we were supposed to. After about an hour, and right when we were about to leave for another hotel, they told us our room was ready. The rooms are WOW tiny. We had a corner room that was considered an upgrade, so I can only imagine that the other rooms feel something like Jack in Titanic. The toilet is in the shower about 4 feet from the shower head. The only sink is in the main room, and you can reach it from the closest bed. There is no way two people could get ready at the same time in this room. If my partner and I tried to walk past each other by the sink, we would have to actively move to avoid bumping into each other. During our stay, the city declared a boil-water notice. When we returned to the hotel, we found a note telling us about the notice and 3 tiny half-size water bottles. One person trying to check in (his room wasn't ready yet either) mentioned that a friend told him the tommie is like an upscale hostel. My partner and I thought he was crazy until we saw the rooms and realized he was dead on. The final insult was when we get our bill. We decided to valet our car. How much do you think we paid in Austin? $30, $40, or maybe $45? You would be wrong. The hotel charges $60 for valet parking! That price is insane and is what they charge in Washington DC and New York.

Parker V.

Yelp
Just what we needed. Clean rooms and great service. Valet is pricey but we had a great experience! It was a breeze.

Andrew B.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our stay at the Tommie. Right in the heart of Downtown Austin. Clean hotel with beautiful rooftop pool. Angel with the management staff made it right when there was an issue with the pool at check in. Definitely would stay again!

Carrie S.

Yelp
I loved my stay at tommie! Every element in the room is ingeniously designed -- all the built-in storage was amazing, and I had plenty of space for a multi-night stay. The shower was glorious. Amazing water pressure and plenty of hot water. The bath products also smelled fantastic. The bed was super comfy and it felt very luxurious to be in a king! All staff was very friendly and knowledgable about the hotel and Austin in general, and the coffee bar was great. The entire hotel is beautifully-designed, too -- I loved all the art in the public spaces and the panoramic landscape photo above my bed. Will def be returning!
