Twin Cities’ Restaurant and Bar Closures to Know, November 2025 | Eater Twin Cities

"After 18 years, this spot will say goodbye on Saturday, December 20. Known for deep-dish and stuffed pies loaded with cheese, chunky red sauce, and toppings like Italian sausage and artichokes, it also counts local celebrities Joe Mauer, Vince Flynn, and John Gagliardi as regulars, each honored with a namesake pie; the menu also features pastas, sandwiches, and salads." - Jeffy Mai

In the mood for really delicious pizza give Tommy a try. I ordered a stuffed-crust pizza and they made me a Chicago-style instead. When I took a bite of the pizza I no longer cared. The pizza was delicious, fresh tasting, and tasted better than most, if not all, popular brand pizzas. Tommy will get my business again.

Google
My husband and I decided to try this place out and WOW. Instant new favorite. We’re debating on weekly pizza dates now. We went on BOGO Monday and got two deep dish pizzas—they were beyond delicious. Our server Will was super friendly, fun and provided excellent service. The place itself has a fun and welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back and highly recommend!!

Google
I hate having to leave reviews, but sometimes it has to be done. The “Chicago Deep Dish” was sad and disappointing! There was a 2 for 1 deal on Uber eats, and we got two totally different styles of pizza… maybe list your "Deep Dish Pizza" as "We're trying to make Derp Dish Pizza"

Jake M.

Google
Some of the best Chicago style pizza I’ve had in a really long time! Great atmosphere and service was phenomenal. Highly recommend this place.

Katlyn K.

Google
Chicago people: you are going to be SORELY disappointed if you come here expecting Chicago style deep dish. I try not to write bad reviews, but I have to say the pie just did not cut it at all. Please do some recipe/soul searching and come up with a better deep dish pizza. 3 stars is for a really sweet waiter and a nice facility.

Kathleen F.

Google
Decent enough pizza, but sauce is sweet. Chicago style. Crust could use seasoning, sauce could use spice. Overall, fair enough. I don’t think they were super warm & fuzzy when I picked up pizza.

Google
Amazing Chicago deep dish style pizza. Had the meat lovers Chicago and it didn’t disappoint! Nice atmosphere with lots of space for our group. Will be back for sure!

Google
I'm kind of shocked by how disappointing the food was. The delivery person and website were good and food arrived within an hour. The lettuce in my salad was really dirty, the garlic bread was very soggy, and the cheese was barely melted on top. We didn't get any silverware or napkins. I guess I could have asked for them, but I gave our hotel name and room number in the comments, so I assumed they'd know we would need a fork for the salad. I paid for sauce for the garlic bread, but it just tasted and looked like canned tomato paste. My boyfriend liked his pizza, but my food was just gross and lacked any effort despite being $19.55. We are in town on vacation, and I'm just so perplexed how a small pizza, side Caesar salad, garlic bread, and 2 waters was $60 after all the fees and tip. I love supporting small businesses, but I feel ripped off by this place.

Mike H.

Yelp
Best dish around! Flavorful sauce and amazing crust! Buffet was a great value!!! Get one to go and surprise the family!!

Yelp
I'm conflicted on this one. Pizza didn't look like the ones that I saw on the website. And it arrived cold, but that was more any Uber delivery problem than the restaurant. Sauce was a little sweeter than I like. Crust chewy, which was good. I'm sure it is better right out of the oven

Christian W.

Yelp
This pizza was definitely not it. Very runny like soup. Had weird smell. Than when I said I didn't like the pizza the Owner got mad and told me this is good pizza and was very aggressive about it. Save your money and find a better pizza place cuz I wasted my time and energy dining there.
google avatar

Kate K.

Yelp
Very nice staff that took a phone order and had the Chicago stuffed crust pizza finished in under 30 minutes. Usually it takes about an hour anywhere else, so if you are in a hurry and want some Chicago stuff, this may be your place! I am a Chicago native and love Giordano's or Lou malnati's pizza, so those are still my preferences, but this was decent pizza as well. My kids got cheese and I got sausage and mushroom. The sausage and mushroom was so good! The cheese is just mediocre in my opinion. I didn't look around at the atmosphere very much, just picked up at the counter paid and left.
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
Love the stuffed pizza! We stop when we are in the area. Good fast service. We will be back!

Yelp
Something has definitely changed in the last couple of years since we started going here. The menu is definitely shorter, the waitstaff wasn't as attentive, and some of my favorites are gone, like the artichoke dip that I've shared with friends before sadly didn't make the cut. I'm not sure if some of these changes are because of the pandemic, but the vibe used to be more of a locally owned Old Chicago type style, where you had a good variety of beer and menu items to choose from. I'm a bit disappointed and will be on the lookout for another family-style Italian restaurant in the area.

Yelp
The team was very nice! After going back and forth between Costco Pizza and giving this place a try we came to Tommys. We ordered a Large and almost ate the whole thing in one sitting. Hopefully next time we come before 2 for their lunch special

Yelp
Ordered two cheese pizzas and a deep dish with pepperoni, mushrooms, and spinach for pickup. When I went to get my order, I asked if they had donuts. I thought I had seen them mentioned on the website or in a review. I was told yes by the employee. I paid and then sat down to wait, unaware that my pizzas were ready, but now I was waiting for the "donuts." When I asked if they had them, I assumed the yes meant yes, not that they had needed to be cooked or whatever. And these were not donuts, they were frozen pieces of dough with sugar. So a bit of a breakdown in communication there. The pizzas were subpar, not impressive in any way. The dough is definitely not made in house. It was bland. My kids were not fans of the cheese pizza which is saying a lot. The deep dish was acceptable, but not for the price ($30). I suggest you go somewhere else.
google avatar

Viv B.

Yelp
The pizza was great! The windy city donuts made for a delicious dessert too! Very friendly staff! Quick & convenient. I'll definitely be back.

Ben S.

Yelp
Service was attentive, young lady at the register was very nice and friendly. The deep dish pizza was amazing and I would definitely recommend this place! Will be going back! The restaurant was also very classy and was very clean! Great job!

Yelp
Needed some serious pizza attention during the Sunday football games this last weekend. My friend hosting recommended this place. I had just recently had some just sub par deep dish pizza, so this was a pleasant surprise. What we ordered: Chicago Style Deep Dish w/ sausage and pepperoni-- Thick bread-like crust topped with a layer of real mozzarella cheese filled with sausage and pepperoni. Then add a thick layer of sauce with chunks of tomatoes and lightly top it off with mozzarella cheese. Meat Lovers Hand Tossed-- House made pizza dough from scratch and real mozzarella topped w/ Italian sausage, Canadian bacon, pepperoni & bacon bits. Both these pies were dynamite!!! Sauce, cheese and meat ratios were on point!! I'll be ordering again!

Yelp
I ordered online for 4:00. My nail appointment was done sooner than I thought and I got here at 3:30. The woman started the order right away and it was done in 15 minutes. I got sausage deep dish and we really enjoyed it. Plenty of cheese and a different in a good way sauce. I got a side Caesar salad and the dressing was just average. I'll definitely come back for the pizza, so glad it's here. Was totally off my radar. That was close.

Adam W.

Yelp
This is genuinely the worst pizza I've ever had. Gas stations and hospitals have better pie. I cannot believe they've ever had a repeat customer.

Sean M.

Yelp
Excellent pizza. Fantastic lunch buffet! The cheese is amazing!!! the Tommy Chicago's team is so nice - it is our family's favorite pizza place! Thank you for a wonderful lunch!

Yelp
The dining room was mostly empty when we pulled up and after the meal I understand why. We started with wings and cheese curds. The wings weren't bad they are breaded and fried with the sauce on the side which was just Frank's RedHot wing sauce poured into a little cup. We also got the garlic cheese curds which again were ok, not great but not bad either. For the meal my daughter and I shared a pizza while the wife got the chicken philly. The fries were good and about the only thing she ate. The bread was soggy and the chicken tasted old so most of the sandwich was left on the plate. The pizza wasnt much better. I was hungry so I managed to eat a few slices but honestly there was no real flavor to anything. The way I'll describe it is with my daughter's words... it was like eating plastic on top of pita bread. The service was ok. The waitress was super friendly and was really trying hard, but seemed to struggle if she had more than one task to complete. The consensus was that we wont be going back.

Mike B.

Yelp
Cold and old at the buffet everyone ( two tables waiting 20 min. For something fresh to come out. No salad bar. Two morons working in kitchen speaking loudly in kitchen about chicks and sports. Now 30 mins no fresh pizza yet. They did bring the bill already. No clean plates at the buffet as well Now the staff is more concerned about punt defense on video games. Hey now a pizza came out Too little too late.

Candy C.

Yelp
The food was great and the service was good but it was not the best atmosphere because it was empty except for me and a friend. However after children's sports games are done they often come here.

Jon M.

Yelp
Walked in around 2:30 in the afternoon. Was greeted very warmly. I highly recommend the flat bread pizzas!! They are lighter and not as heavy as a traditional pizza. This place exceeded my expectations. I will definitely be back!! Thank you.

Yelp
Came here for lunch Had the Meatball Sandwich, wife had small thin crust pizza, Both were excellent, sauce is very good, meatballs were very tasty, Definitely coming Back!

Yelp
It was a warm and humid day in Minneapolis and my wife and I had a CBS coupon for $30 from Tommy Chicago. We took the 10 mile drive to the east suburbs and entered a quaint shopping center and out of the corner was a joint called Tommy Chicago. There were about 5 groups in there and we sat in a booth. The decor was welcoming with lots of cool pictures on the wall and three or four large screen TVs on the wall. The menu was large and I ordered a Summit draft to sip on while I perused the menu. My wife got a medium traditional pizza with no cheese and spinach and fresh garlic on top. I ordered the Grilled chicken Italian herb sandwich. We waited about 15 minutes and had some good conversation. I ordered a second Summit when the food came. The pizza was perfect and the sandwich was huge. It was also steaming hot, I couldn't even touch it for 10 minutes. It came with chips on the side. They looked homemade, but I am not really a chips guy. I would have preferred an option of a small salad on the side. The pizza was wonderful, the sauce was sweet, but I added some Parmesan and red peppers to it. Wonderful. I had a couple of pieces as my sandwich cooled off. The chips were crunchy, but a little greasy. The garlic was super fresh and aromatic. Great 'Za. My sandwich had awesome french or ciabatta bread with huge bell peppers on it and a sort of red pepper. The grilled chicken had lots of great herbs on it. Good stuff. I could barely finish just half of it though. Our server was fantastic, a high school girl that took care of everything. Great place.

Yelp
Taste and presentation... 5 star Service....3 star (and that's being nice) A family of 4, we paid 72.00 for 1 large deep dish that was the size of a small anywhere else (7 peices). 3 sodas and a beer. If they had regular size pizzas I would come back. I'll find a different place next time for deep dish. Portions too small.
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
Worst deep dish I've ever had. The dough was just a thicker version of normal pizza dough. Crust was pale. At $2.50 per topping I expect a little more than a light sprinkling. It's pretty bad when a frozen deep dish is better.
google avatar

Sue S.

Yelp
I do want to note that the restaurant took the time to send me a message here on Yelp thanking me for my review and saying they would certainly work on service and take my comments into account. Classy and appreciated.

Yelp
Stopped in today as I was gassed and needed to refuel myself. I was told by a local that Mendoberri next door was outstanding. Well, it seems that they took today off, what with it being labor day and all. Good for them I say. Now a quick survey of the area revealed a McDonalds and Subways across the highway - not today. I figured pizza or pasta would be the order of the day and I entered Tommy Chicago Pizzeria. It was a little late for lunch, but there were several groups in the place. Most folks were doing the buffet. Now as a general rule, I avoid buffets at all cost. A buffet induces overeating, simply because I have bought the right to eat as much as I can. Having been taught by my mother to finish everything on my plate, this has historically been a bad combination for me. A quick perusal of the menu revealed that the pasta dishes are very generic pseudo Italian. A whole pizza would be just as disastrous for my portion control as the buffet, and the thought of buying cold pizza by the slice didn't appeal to me. That left the sandwiches. I ordered an Italian sausage sandwich with peppers. Overall the sandwiches were good. Though the authenticity of the bread is highly suspect in my mind. The upper half of the sandwich was capped with a long bun, but the bottom half was comprised of two bread sticks! My favorite Italian breads are of the crusty variety. This bread was not crusty. It had the texture of a conventional soft bun, which takes away from the overall experience. I mean bread is the heart of a great sandwich! The peppers were sweet and nicely grilled, and the sausages nicely infused with the herbs and spices. The really unique thing were the freshly fried potato chips. A nice change of pace from fries, but then there seems to be some sort of an identity crisis going on here. How Italian are potato chips? I agree that a nice salad with good Italian dressing would have served as a better accompaniment to the sandwich. Lastly, the girl who served me was attentive and always available, without being intrusive. I give Melissa a thumbs up for a very nice job!

P T.

Yelp
Super friendly service. But, dough reminds me of home-made Bisquik stuff I had as a kid. Toppings were OK, but for the price it's not worth it. Jet's deep dish pizza is way better. Way too expensive for what you get.

Erik W.

Yelp
I am always happy to support local business, and due to the owners sincere and concerned response to my previous review, I will be visiting soon!

Kaylie M.

Yelp
Food overall was great. We got a deep dish pizza and Windy City doughnuts. Although when I walked in to pickup my meal, I waited at least five minutes before even being greeted. The waitstaff area was disgusting (garbage scattered, rags tossed under the counter, unfinished drinks with no lids) Overall it felt icky and I questioned the sanitation.
google avatar

John O.

Yelp
There aren't too many AYCE pizza places in the Twin Cities, so it was good to find a non-chain one at 9 bucks. The pizza here is good, but not great. Although Chicago is in the name, I actually enjoyed the thin crust pizza there more than the deep dish. Nothing can compare to Giordano's. Despite having quite a few customers, had to wait around for awhile when there was nothing available until they bought out new pies.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Autopsy of the pizza: Decent crust, excellent cheese, passable sauce. It seems a little overpriced, especially in the case of the $10+ one-topping small pizza. If I ever have the time, I wouldn't be opposed to eating here for lunch. I went when nobody else was there. The bar's not... I was going to make a conciliatory 'It's not good for the average boozehound' or 'It's not good for picking up men/women', but with each caveat I conceive, I slowly chip away at any notion of usefulness this bar could possibly have. It's small, it's too clean, it's painfully bright. (All fine qualities for, say, Dennis Kucinich, but goddammit, not in my bar.) So I suppose that works perfectly well for the family-friendly theme tacitly touted by management. I can pick up what Tommy Chicago's is putting down. I get what they're going for, which is a slightly upscale, pizza-centric version of Applebee's where you can bring children and watch 'the game'. The pizza's still lacking, though, and, again, it's so clean that there's a dearth of personality in the atmosphere.
google avatar

Derek V.

Yelp
Really disappointing because it's close to where we live. Stopped in at lunchtime on a Saturday and the place was basically empty. We sat ourselves (no sign indicating what to do). The waitress was nice, but the pizza was lousy and overpriced. It tasted like Chef Boyardee pizza with rancid sauce.
google avatar

Karen F.

Yelp
It's hard for me to compare this place to other pizzerias who offer deep dish because it was my first time ordering one... I know, crazy. Overall, I had a good experience. The restaurant is located inside what looks like a set for a TV show similar to the *Gilmore Girls*. Parking was not hard to find and the restaurant was clean and spacious. I ordered the 'Chicago Style Deep Dish' with two toppings and it was delicious. Unlike the other reviews, I didn't think the price was too steep but I did only order one pizza. The service was nothing special but it was not bad. I'm glad I tried it and I would go back again but not for several months.

Yelp
I went for the lunch buffet to give this establishment a second chance and it failed miserably! Previously I ordered a large thin crust pizza for delivery. We asked that the pizza be cooked a longer to brown the cheese. When we received the pizza it was pure white, the cheese was barely melted and the crust was extremely soggy and seriously wet. The edges were almost burnt though. This tells me that they are not cooking their pizza correctly. The timing or oven heat is way off. A thin crust should be crispy with golden cheese. The pizza was so bad no one wanted the leftovers and we threw them out! Today I decided to try the lunch buffet. It was one of the worst experiences I've had, it's small and not stocked regularly. The lack of pizza and salad was the topic at every table. I went there for a salad and pizza and I did not receive a salad because it was NEVER filled. My only pizza option was to eat a few pieces of cold, stale pizza flavors I would not normally eat. I sat there another 20 mins. waiting, no other pizza came out and I finally decided to give up and leave.
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
A small deep dish pizza (only 8 inches) that could fit entirely on my plate with 2 toppings was $17.95 . I at the entire thing, it was good but it was basically a personal pan pizza for that much. Add on the $2.75 for a fountain drink was over $22. Just seemed pricey.
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
Found this place through a google search and wandered in with no expectations. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised! I preface my review by saying we are not pizza aficionados, we are not from Chicago, and we are mainly easy to please. Having said that, we know good pizza when we eat it :) And Tommy Chicago's is good pizza. We shared Bruschetta and a Deep Dish Pepperoni Pizza. Bruschetta was good, served on garlic toast with cheese, good sized portion and you could tell the bruschetta mixture was made in house. Not a fine dining toasted baguette with fresh basil by any means, but decent enough for the price. Deep Dish Pepperoni was really good. I dont know that I would classify it as true deep dish as it did not come in a deep dish, it was more of a hefty crust with several layers of cheese, pepperoni and a chunky tomato sauce. Nevertheless it was quite enjoyable. The crust was the best part, and one of the best I have had in a long time. It had a great texture, a nice spongy consistency without being doughy, and a hint of sweetness. The end of each slice leaves you with a nice hunk of crust perfect for sopping up the remnants of the sauce :) Cheese was nice and stringy, pepperoni were as they should be, and the whole thing left us unable to finish our second slices. Not the best pizza I have ever had, but it is definitely worth a monthly visit. Our server Mercedes was friendly and attentive and boxed our food up for us at the table. A nice touch I would not have anticipated based on the atmosphere which is quite laid back. Average selection of beer and wine, comfortable furnishings and a nicely decorated interior. They have several TV's but dont feel sports-bar-ish. Overall a good place for a relaxing casual dinner. We will be back!

Yelp
Great pizza! We got their special pizza with mushroom, black olive, sausage, pepperoni, onion and replaced green pepper with green olives on the hand toss crust. Damn good Chicago style pizza. Reminds me of when I lived in Chi town back in the 70's.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
We were visiting MH and looking for a place to eat. Located in a neat little shopping center, this neighborhood gem really delivers. We got their special pizza with mushroom, black olive, sausage, pepperoni, and onion. The only qualm was the price. My wife and I were going to split a diner salad and pizza. My daughter picks the black olives off our pizza and eats gold fish for diner. My son ate one slice. The total for one medium pizza, salad, ice tea, and wine(1) was $55 with tip. I don't mind spending money on diner but after the fact one of my wifes cousins said he only orders from Rocco's. We tried their pizza later that night after some wiffle ball, and while the price was cheap, that was some greasy pizza. I'd rather spend the few bucks and sit down for a nice pizza at Tom C's.
google avatar

Kristi C.

Yelp
I'm no authority on Chicago style pizza, but I know what I like. And I like what these folks are doing. The Calzone, stuffed with meatballs, green peppers, mushrooms and bacon. Rarely is pizza good the second day, it's soft and delicious crust was lunch the following day. The Traditional crust pizza, which I would consider a thin crust, was good to, they are generous with the toppings. I like the thick tomato sauce they use. Perfectly cheesy and cooked well, it went great with both of my Alaskan Ambers! Family friendly, industrial feeling and you can also get your sports fix from the several flat screens hung in the dining area. Very friendly and attentive service the evening we were there.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
I went here for the lunch buffet with some co workers. The pizza was really good and you can't beat the $8.95 price. However, if you are looking for someplace with a nice atmosphere this is not the place. The decor is pretty bare bones and most of the tables were dirty even though the doors had just opened. They had several TVs on which was nice but no sound or music overhead which seemed kind of strange. Our waitress was the only one on the floor and she did a good job keeping up. I gave the place 3 stars based on the pizza alone.

Kyle K.

Yelp
Great Chicago style deep dish pizza! Really fresh ingredients, and great service. I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a fresh deep dish pizza!

Troy R.

Yelp
Good pizza, thin and think crust. Reasonable bar selection for beer, wine and liquor. Interior could use a little updating.
google avatar

Grey S.

Yelp
I generally like Tommy Chicago's, and find the deep dish to be their best item. Thin crust is decent, not great and the salads are quite mediocre. The dish isn't on par with really good Chicago pizza like a Lou Malnati's or Giordano's but it's fine for cheese lovers. The venue is nice and I like that they have a TV and a small bar.
google avatar

Lesley M.

Yelp
Oh... how I wish the pizza would have been better. I was disappointed at best. I thought it was overpriced for just decent pizza. I had no love for the sauce and no love for a wait. I think I'll go back to Green Mill before going here again.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Only giving 1 star because I can't give zero. Went in one night to get a beer and the waitress rolled her eyes and said not another person. I ordered a pizza and it tasted worse than frozen pizza. It was extremely doughey without any flavor. I doubt they used any fresh ingredients. The kitchen staff didn't seem to care. Avoid this place like the plague, I've never seen such bad food or service.

Donna N.

Yelp
Sorry Chicago Pizza Lovers....this place stinks. Or it could be I simply hate Deep dish pizza, but I think there's more to hate. While I commend the corn meal/semolia dough (which is a good start) the sauce reminded me of highly seasoned tomatoe paste straight from a can - disgusting. I had a bite of a regular pie (my husband ordered), cheese seemed real (therefore stringy) but unless you have a teenage stomach and can eat overseasoned acidic sauce as thick as peanut butter, don't bother. I came home and had 10 tums for dessert. For 13 year old kids it's probably fine. I wish them luck but think they are going to need to supplement their menu with other real food if they are going to stay in business.

Holly R.

Yelp
We loved this pizza! We had the Hawaiian. The sauce was light and flavorful..actually tasted like tomatoes fresh from the garden. our waitress was very attentive and helpful. As we left, we caught the cook to give him our complements. We'll be back!
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
Seen this pizza shop for sometime off of Highway 110 and been wanting to stop in, and we did. Interior is contemporary for a pizza shop and it's actually not bad. The pizza's looked really good. The cheese is hearty and more importantly for a pizza shop, stringy, but the pizza or maybe it's just the ingredients aren't that good. I felt that the sauce needed salt. Their sauce here is somewhat sweat which doesn't sit well with me for pizza sauce. And it's a little spendy too. I would much rather have just taken home a Papa Murphy's or something similar. While there is a big lack of pizza restaurants, sadly, I'd pass this one up.... It was just OK. No more. No less.
google avatar

Jillian B.

Yelp
My husband and I don't mind paying for good food. Their website advertises the "highest quality fresh ingredients" sadly, we didn't find hardly anything to be fresh tasting about it. We were greeted and seated quickly to a clean table. Their website said they had pesto as an option for sauce base, which we planned on ordering, but found out upon our arrival they did not have it. We ordered a build your own pizza with a few extra ingredients(1.00+ per ingredient for large), no meat, just olive oil and garlic base, veggies and fresh basil. We also ordered a half order of garlic bread.....waited...waited....asked the person who(maybe?) was our server and said "oh, they just saw it. Theyre starting it now." It came a minute or two before our pizza which was irritating. When the garlic bread came out with a side of sauce I was so happy we didn't get it on the pizza. It was terrible. I'm pregnant, and knew instantly I was going to be up with heartburn all night after trying it. Got the pizza, didn't see fresh basil anywhere.... maybe they dusted some flakes on there and charged us over a dollar for that? Whatever. We were over it. Never going back unfortunately. Overpriced and just lacking in a lot of ways. Wanted to like it.

Yelp
Tommy Chicago's makes a decent deep dish pizza, but it doesn't quite compare with Green Mill's, which I consider to be one of the best Deep Dishes in the Twin Cities. The pepperoni has a different taste than normal pepperoni, more of a salami or bologna flavor, which isn't bad, just unexpected. The crust is also a little on the bland side, but still, as a complete package, it's not a bad pizza joint, especially in an area with no real other pizza places.
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
Great deep dish pizza, and the buffet is great. The staff is really friendly as well.
