Food was great, service was super slow they only seemed to have one waiter for the whole second floor during a very busy Thursday night NFL game. Very fun place, people of all types and ages seemed to be here as well. Very loud atmosphere and the outdoor area on the second floor had games to play. Over all a good experience with good food

Tommy Joe's was gracious enough to host our work holiday party this year - and they were incredible! The team, especially Aaron and Paul were amazing. The food, drinks, and service were wonderful. They were super accommodating for our large group (50 people!) and really figured everything out for us! It was the coldest day of the year - and they made it a great experience with the usage of space! We will definitely be back.

Tommy Joe’s is a great spot with plenty of options. It’s got a rooftop bar, a second-level bar, and you can get to both by stairs or elevator. There’s also an outdoor patio with TVs, games, and a smoking area. The food was solid, and the overall vibe is laid-back but lively—definitely a cool place to hang out. You do have to pay for street parking which is hard to find.

Absolutely love this place. Too many places in Bethesda and DC feel uppity with no real personality. Here, it's the perfect mix of 'your local bar' while maintaining class. The evening and late night staff are out of this world amazing. Perfect place for any sporting event you want to watch, especially Sunday football where every possible game is always on (usually at least 2 TVs per game). 11/10, love it.

One of my favorite spots in Bethesda. I like it because it probably has the most relaxed atmosphere in town. I especially enjoy sitting on the rooftop when the weather is nice. I always come with friends. It’s perfect after a long day for a drink, or if you’re really hungry. The service is friendly and kind. The food isn’t anything special, but everything else makes up for it.

This is our local neighborhood Bar, we visit here often. We like this sports bar because it’s big and has a rooftop and plenty of space. They got karaoke evenings and dancing club vibe as well on some nights. And you can watch a game on any of the TV’s spreads on the two floors of the property. The food is always great, which is surprising for a bar. We especially like taco Tuesday, they use this amazing cilantro sauce for the steak and shrimp tacos and it’s honestly one of the best tacos I ate. This bar very chill straight forward and fun.

Be mindful about your drink order. Thier Martinis cost $20 if you want just some decent vodka instead of thier rubbing questionable alcohol. Ask prices before you order. I payed $180 for 3 Martinis 3 Bourbons and a burger... yee.. not for my caliber. Guys just be upfront about choices and prices with your patrons so you can have 5 strs reviews vs 1. Btw bartenders are awesome. My issue is how management handles business and tried to school me about that Titos Vodka is a PREMIUM choice. Wowww

The DJ on Friday night's isn't great. He messes up the vibes by not sticking with a genre or theme. He has a QR code that he uses and it's not the most efficient way to build a bond with patrons. He cleared the dance floor more than once with his song selection.

I stopped by for cocktails. I wasn't disappointed by the quality of the drinks or discount of happy hour. I wasn't disappointed hurt that burgers were only available as beef. It's 2024 (.99) and we know that diversified dietary needs should be expected. My cocktails were great. Here's to more options in 2025 because I'm very much into the ambiance.

Tommy Joe's was a nice place to grab something to eat middle of the week early evening. Handful of regulars were at the bar engaged with each other and bartender. Bartender took my order and server brought it out soon after. Food was good and the burger was juicy with melted cheese just the way I ordered it. Tommy Joe's seems like a local bar with basic good food that is not overpriced. I'll stop again for food or quick drink when in the neighborhood.

Great dive bar with live music and surprisingly decent food - get the pretzel sticks! We enjoyed the live band performance on Friday night and there was no cover charge. The pretzel sticks were pipping hot and tasty with housemate beer cheese and honey mustard that I requested. Hubby got the chicken tenders that came with waffle fries (the waffle fries were tepid and brittle). There's an outdoor smoking area connected to the bar with a lingering smoke smell inside the bar. Whiskey and Ginger beer drink was standard. The DJ played a bunch of 80's and 90's hits with people in their 40's and 50's dancing the night away! There's also a pool table. While the vibe didn't quite fit us, we had a good time and a fun night out.

Ordered through DoorDash to my hotel which was close by. My food was ready right on time, and delivered to me shortly after. I got the California chicken sandwich I think it was called, and it was really good. The tater tots were crispy and delicious, even being ordered to go and delivered. I really enjoyed their homemade ranch, but I can't speak to the ambience of the restaurant since I dined in the hotel. It looks like it's a local bar and grill, which would be someplace I would enjoy dining in on a different visit.

Tommy Joes is the bar you go to when you want a nice casual vibe. The staff is friendly, the drinks are delicious and on Monday nights there's live music I think 7-1030p. Tommy Joe is also the name of one of the bartenders there and he's great!

This BOW my friends and I decided to get out on the town with many of the other MoCo natives that returned for Thanksgiving week. NITM to make the trek to DC, we settled on bar hopping in Bethesda. Tommy joes is one of the only popping establishments in the area and holds the monopoly on the festivity. We were very alarmed by the volume of individuals at the bar and were slightly off put by some of the bouncers of the bar. The bars were WAY too overcrowded and we felt like sardines. The floors were reminiscent of a frat basement. Don't get us started on the state of the women's bathroom. Not sure why the whole floor was saturated in a mysterious liquid. Are people urinating on the floor?? If so, that needs to be addressed. There was also no toilet paper to be found. The rooftop area was a little more quaint until we were bombarded by some of the other patrons smoking large cigars and some rude security guards that were taking their job way too seriously. We suggest Tommy joes do a better job preparing for BOW next year or else we will return to DC for our celebrations.

This place has severely gone down hill. I suppose that what the management gets for hiring rude and obnoxious low-brow waitresses and bartenders. This place is not what it once was and I will never recommend this place again for an outing with my friends. It's a shame but there's currently much better places than tommy joes to go to in Bethesda today. Please save yourself the bad experience and go to anywhere else than this place. All of this should've been evident to the staff there by the lack of people who show up anymore but I guess they're blind to this fact. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE

Zero Stars directed towards "Duffy" the bartender. Long day at work that was supposed to end by enjoying a Coworker's Wednesday night bday party at Tommy Joes (karaoke night). My night ended when Duffy kicked me out for not having sleeves!?!? What? Btw this is a gender specific rule that only applies to men. Duffy didn't even ask how I identified. So, unless you LOVE sexist rules that make no sense, by all means, enjoying yourself! Fack you Duffy (middle finger emoji). - Chad

The shrimp taco bowl is so good. Curly fries are epic. The staff is super nice. Grant will make a skinny orange crush that is so good. Love the outdoor rooftop with fans. Brandon is super kind and attentive. We love this place!!

The Best Mojitos! The best place to be when it's raining outside and there's college football all day. Great bartenders! Juan, Tommy, Duffy and Brandon are the best!

Get DJ's who play a variety of music. Not just all rap music. There's very little nightlife in MoCo with DJ's. It's just like Don Tito's

Only visited once from 12am-close and hung out on the second floor. It rained, but I'm sure the cute little tiki bar on the patio would be an awesome hangout spot in nice weather. Very crowded, decent music, bartenders are very speedy. I had a great time!

Always a good time. The music /dj is repetitive so that can be annoying at times. I never ate there yet. Pretty diverse crowd. Laid back environment. There is security. Age group here I've seen 20s - 50s all vibing.

Casual spot with a rooftop bar area! My gfs and I came here yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. Luckily there was a table available for us, since there were a good amount of people already there. Tables were far apart and all staff wore masks. It took over 20 mins before a server came over to our table, that is terrible! I saw the servers attending to other tables and did not even look in our direction when we tried flagging their attention. Food was okay (and came out fairly quick)--we ordered the chicken caesar salad, tater tots and crab bites. The drinks are generous with a good amount of liquor. There was a happy hour special for $5 rail drinks!

We just had our Woodward high school reunion there on Saturday night and Joey (and the rest of the staff) were so accommodating to all of our needs from letting us bring in our own DJ, to decor, to keeping the drinks coming for 120 of us! Everyone had a blast! I would highly recommend the rooftop for a private party...or anytime! ~Cathy P

I came here during the day time with couple buddies. They have half off burgers on Mondays and the burgers are actually pretty good! The service was decent. The bartender was the only one serving all things consisted she did a good job. The place was empty it was around 2pm. We also got the nachos which weren't that great. The jalapeño poppers were delicious and the wings were a little dry. Overall decent experience and not a large bill

Went in with some co workers tonight, and the bouncer seemed to think their ID's were fake. After letting 5 out of the 6 of us in, he kept our only African American friend outside and interrogated him intensely. Eventually we offered to go somewhere else, and said friend tried to leave. The bouncer completely left his post, chased my friend down and tackled him 2 or 3 times in the middle of the street, up to 4 blocks away from Tommy joes. In the meantime I witnessed multiple people walk into Tommy Joes without getting their ID checked, in this bouncer's absence. My friend had his face slammed into the ground repeatedly and his face and shirt were covered in blood. The bouncer kept bragging (while 4 blocks away from his job) that he was a 'federal agent' and would 'fuck [my friend] up'. This was clearly illegal racist and abusive behavior and I honestly feel that I should be filing a police report. It got so bad that a homeless person had to step in to keep my friend from getting killed by this bouncer, who clearly was only concerned about perceived 'fake ids' when the person in question was African American. Keep in mind that this altercation took place blocks away from Tommy joes, this bouncer in question having chased my friend FAR away from where the confusion started. I have photos of my friend's injuries but have decided not to unload to protect his privacy, as the bouncer threatened to 'find him'. Do not go to Tommy Joes, unless you want to be beaten for no reason like it's the 1850s.

Okay, I've now been here twice. I've heard it was a different bar before but I know nothing about that. The first time I came was for my ex-boyfriends 30th birthday. We picked this place because it was local, there's a parking garage nearby, there's no cover and it's large enough to accommodate 50 plus people. It was a crazy night indeed. Drinks were flowing, music was bumping with the DJ they had and everyone was having an amazing time. He died. The end. A year later, I came again last night with some coworkers after we had our holiday dinner at Silver not too far away. We purposely came a little early so we could still sit at the tables on the 2nd floor. The DJ did start setting up around 10:30pm but I was out by 11pm. Our waitress was meh. She genuinely seemed disinterested in serving us. She wasn't rude to me by any means but she seemed like she was super annoyed and did not want to be dealing with us. I only ordered water lol All of my coworkers said the drinks were okay nothing special. They were a little buzzed though. We ended up ordering 2 baskets of waffle fries and now these were on point! They were piping hot and so delicious. Maybe I was just really hungry? The music was very repetitive. It felt like they were playing the same thing over and over again. What are you gonna do, right? There's 3 levels to this establishment. The first floor, expect to be ID'ed. 2nd is where everyone pretty much hangs out and the DJ is and the 3rd floor is the roof top. This was closed due to the rain but I've been on it before and it's a nice addition to have especially during the warmer days. I would like to actually try Tommy Joe's food one day as I really liked their fries lol I will also definitely be back on a Friday or Saturday night once the DJ has already gotten his life together.

Aaron was our bartender at the tiki bar tonight and was the best! He was super friendly and made good drinks. He should definitely be the main bartender all the time. We will actually only be coming back when he is a bar tender.

Love the ambience and food is delicious!! Our kids love it and they have a kids menu. Best bar in Bethesda!!

If giving a restaurant no stars was an option, I would certainly be doing it for this place. Tommy Joes seems like it would be a cool place, but in reality it is smells very bad inside and on the outside. I went only twice, to get a chicken sandwich and both times Tommy Joes was unable to deliver. The first time I was let in and noticed the reeking smell. I arrived at 10:45 and didn't receive service from the bartender until 11:03 to which they stated the last call for food was at 11 and the kitchen is closed. Frustrated, I held my breath to leave and avoid the smell. The second time I went in hopes of getting the same sandwich. My friends and I didn't get five feet inside before the doorman tells us our IDs are fake. All four of us are above 21 and he insisted they were fake IDs. He asked for $20 from us to let us in "underage" which is slimey and sneaky in itself. He told us he slammed someone last week and that we should be careful. This place is awful

Tommy Joe's is a low-key hangout spot that serves classic American comfort food and drinks. It's a great place to watch sports. They also have a rooftop bar but it's currently closed for the season. Their current beers on draught are Guinness, Miller Lite, Blue Moon, Stella Artois, Stone IPA, Flying Dog The Truth IPA, Dogfish IPA, and Bell's Two Hearted. The only cider they have is the bottled Smith and Forge Hard Apple Cider, which is sweet, smooth, strong, and dry. Later in the night, my boyfriend and I took Fireball whiskey shots.

Very cute sports bar in Bethesda. They have live music on the second floor, a DJ on the roof, and a small tiki bar outside on the second floor. Overall great vibes but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit. They serve high noons FYI, which is great

We came (10+ people) came in to enjoy the redskins vs Dallas game.. service from the beginning was bad. The general manager Matt didn't give us our reserved space that was reserved 5 days in advance. Took tables away from from our section, waiter stated that he was busy to serve our table but still took other tables in our section that came in 30 mins after we came. This felt like a racial type of situation, I hate to say it but it did. The sad truth is that all showed up...a bit late but before the half!! Now the RESERVED room is crowded!! If I could rate this a -10 then I would ONLY cuz of the GM Matt!!!

This is really the worst bar in bethesda in terms of both value and crowd. Really cheap drink specials and poorly trained, transient staff means that there are tons of issues with overserving. Want to sit in a bar that smells like shit and watch a bunch of bro's pound PBR? Me neither. The food... let's just say that calling it dog food is an insult to both dogs and food. To be fair, they've set this place up for the worst alcoholics and biggest cheapskates... the staff get lousy tips, so the good ones leave and the awful ones stay.

I've been here twice. Once for drinks only (we sat at the bar) and once for tacos only. Drinks at the bar - service is quick but the guy wasn't always wearing his mask which bothered me. The drinks are strong and if you go during the happy hour it's totally worth it. Tacos - HOLY MOLY. I was pleasantly surprised with the tacos! I ordered chicken and shrimp. They were both EPIC but the shrimp was better. Tacos are topped with this cilantro lime crema sauce and it's so unbelievably good. The only weird thing is when we asked for hot sauce they brought tabasco. I was expected tapatio or cholula. But it actually worked! We also sat on the patio on the main floor for this one. Apparently there's a rooftop but i hasn't been open when we've been there. We'll be back for the tacos!

Ya know... I didn't frequent the old Tommy Joes too much. I won't go into detail on my thoughts of it; but I will say that I think that the move and the improvements that they've made to the menu and drinks warrant a lot of praise. This Tommy Joe's is located on the second and third floors of the building. There is an entrance on the side of the now shuttered Bold Bite where you'll likely see a man waiting to card you before you enter the door. The second floor is an interesting combination of indoor and outdoor spaces. You might not realize that past the bar on the right is a private room with access to a private patio and bar. I've seen a number of birthday parties/ corporate celebrations taking place in that area. It's really nice for a small event ( maybe 30-50 people). The roof top is pretty much all open air with a covered bar area. There is a combination of high seats, biergarten style picnic tables, and low seats as well. The food is NOT BAD. 3.5 on the food 4.0 on the atmosphere Definitely not as smokey at Caddie's patio, Tommy Joes give you a nice vantage point of downtown Woodmont Triangle. Food is pretty basic, and if I were you I would order on the more basic side of things as well. The cheesesteak that we got the night we went was packed to the gills with thinly cut beef and was served on a nice soft bun. The chicken Caesar wrap we got was agreeable as well. Fries and tots served on the side were nice and crispy. Overall, VERY solid bar food. Not exactly wowing, but definitely solid. Service could definitely be a bit warmer if I had to be critical, but is overall efficient and accurate. Wouldn't hesitate to come back. Wish there was designated smoking section of the rooftop though, so I could avoid.

I went to Tommy Joe's on a beautiful Saturday -- we were looking for a spot to enjoy a drink outside around 3pm. Unfortunately, there was no free parking on a Saturday afternoon in the area so I parked at a meter and headed in. I was greeted warmly by a bartender who passed me the Saturday happy hour menu -- victory! Not too many places have weekend HH (3-7pm everyday) so this was a welcome find. Overall, the spot was a little empty but there were a few folks at the bar having nice sports conversation. I enjoyed my drink and the chill vibes while waiting on my friends. Around 3:30, the rooftop section/bar opened so we headed upstairs to get some sun. There were a number of tall tables and 6+ seats at the smaller 3rd floor bar. The drinks upstairs were solid, but not quite as strong as the ones from downstairs. We enjoyed a couple rounds all the same as the environment was great. Unfortunately, the power on the block went out (a nearby transformer blew) so the staff announced that the bar would have to close. Of course this was outside of the bars control, so no hard feelings at all. Everyone was patient as we finished our drinks and headed out. I was really looking forward to trying some of their appetizers, so I'll need to return to get a taste of the kitchen. I could see myself returning to Tommy Joe's -- I like the casual sports vibe and the weekend HH is a nice pull.

First time here under this name. I remembered the location when it was Urban Heights some years ago...the set up pretty much looked the same as I had remembered. I was starving and wanted to get a burger. I chose the "build your own burger" which came with waffles fries (yummy). Our bartender, Josh, was great!! We had just missed happy hour but I would come back to check that out soon.

bartender was a Spanish guy upstairs and he stole from me. he adjusted the tip amount on merchant copy when i left. drink was shitty along with food as well i am reporting this to my bank

We had a drink spill on the rooftop. An ice cube fell over the edge of the rooftop and landed near the bouncer. He proceeded to come upstairs and throw chairs (including chairs with people sitting in them). It was incredible!

Iv been here twice so far and it's not a bad establishment. It's a really good spot to check out if you've just gotten off of work and need a happy hour spot in Bethesda. The wings are good and the staff are friendly. The first time I went they had the mini video game consoles and hooked them up to the TVs. What's better than good company, good food and drink as video games you grew up with at the bar

Visited Tommy Joe's with my roommate to escape the monotony of quarantine. I appreciated that the restaurant offered outdoor seating - the road in front of the restaurant is blocked off to vehicles and tables are set up far apart, allowing for people to enjoy the outdoors while spaced out. We did not get a chance to explore the rooftop, as it was quite busy at 7pm on a Saturday. Overall, this is a fine spot for a drink, but don't set your expectations too high for the food (although you can get quite a few fries for $5).

I got covid from this place on January 28. I don't recommend it. The service took too long.

I came in for a beer while I waited for my girlfriend. There was a group of guys calling a shot "N***** drink". One of them was the owners son of total wine & more. The bartender was going long with it and servings them the shot. They kept saying it until I asked "what is the drink called" they told me "Vegas shot" after I addressed them they stop. I've been to this bar so many times I never experienced this. I was shocked and disgusted that bartender was taking part in this not once did she stop them from saying that. I spoke to the manager his was shocked that this took place. Tommy joes has todo better!

This is not a bad review. I merely state facts. If you enjoy terrible music, and music that continues forever on repeat when customers beg it to be changed, then this is the place for you. Call it hell if you want to. The difference is, even if you've lived a virtuous life, you may still find yourself in this crap hole. Again, this is not a NEGATIVE REVIEW. I recommend this place for ALL who ENJOY the above CHARACTERISTICS which I mentioned. Enjoy! :)

There's nothing too spectacular about Tommy Joes. There's a rooftop which is nice to have. Everything here was average - the food, the drinks, & the service. It took awhile for the bartender to acknowledge us to take our order. The fried calamari too salty and not crispy. The old bay wings were dry with not much seasoning. The tater tots was the only good food. The mixed drinks are a hit or miss, it's never consistent. This wouldn't be my first or even second choice between all the bars in Bethesda.

I really tried to enjoy my time here. But if I wanted to be film while was I eating I would've ate nachos on the red carpet. This young customer who's always there recording, yelling and dancing on her phone is not how I want to enjoy my meal. Thank you Tracey Barbie for ruining my experiences

I've been living in Bethesda for two years now and this is the THIRD restaurant to occupy this space. I have no idea what the rent is for this large dining area but I'm fairly certain that the cost is too much to maintain a profitable restaurant. However, you would think that new restauranteurs would want to learn from the mistakes of those before them and at least have some common sense when it comes to customer service and food quality. First, you are located in Bethesda. There are literally about 75 restaurants within walking distance of your location. That means you need to step it up in the food quality and customer service department. It's really easy to walk next door to get something better. Second, know your customers! Most of the people who live here are VERY well off financially. I'm not necessarily one of those people but I am willing and able to pay more for a good meal and experience if it is actually good. Both the food and the experience at Tommy Joes was amateurish. I think that is the best way to describe it. It looks like some first time owners, maybe fresh out of college, run this place. It's a shame because the roof deck is the only one of it's kind in Bethesda and is a really great draw. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good dive sports bar type atmosphere from time to time but I've honestly had a better customer service experience at a dive bar than I did here. I walked off the elevator on the roof deck on a Tuesday evening and was greeted by no one. It was packed because it was a nice day, but I managed to find an empty table, so I seated myself. After waiting a few minutes, a server greeted me and handed me a menu from another table. I asked him about the happy hour specials and he told me that he would get me a happy hour drink menu. He quickly rattled off the food specials as he left. He eventually came back and said he couldn't find a menu but told me what the drink specials were. I ordered a drink, some wings and a some potato skins. The server wasn't horrible but definitely not great. As I waited for my food and drink, I noticed a lot of things that are not good to see and really highlight the "amateurish" nature of this place. There was clearly no clear layout for the tables. A certain employee never found the right table on the first try and made his way to every table in succession asking if he had what they ordered. To be fair, this is probably not his fault. I also saw a male employee who I assume was off the clock, sitting with two females (who may have been employees too) drinking, smoking and hanging out. This would've been fine if he wasn't wearing a Tommy Joes shirt and hat and the girls weren't helping themselves to napkins and silverware. Honestly, this is only a small gripe. But if I were the owner, I would require that they NOT wear their work clothes after they clock out. When the food and my drink arrived, I was even more disappointed. The wings were actually okay. Only okay, seriously nothing special. The potato skins were basically inedible. The cheese on top was pretty burnt and it tasted like they didn't even put salt and pepper on them. No flavor whatsoever. The drink arrived in a 12 oz plastic cup. I'm okay with getting a plastic cup. I understand we are on a roof top and glass is not advisable or perhaps illegal. But 12 oz? At least give me 16 oz plastic cup. The happy hour price wasn't very appealing either. I paid $5.05 for a 12 oz IPA during happy hour. Doesn't sound like a good deal to me... I won't come here again, even on a nice day. I predict that this place will go out of business in the next 6-9 months unless they change things.
