Birthdays are an annual tradition to celebrate life and reflect. To celebrate, some may buy a cake, others may travel, but what is most important is to be around loved ones, so that's exactly what I planned for my grandmother's 65th birthday. I gathered my family together and we all dined in @tommyscuisine, a local homestyle Italian Restaurant.
Alexia, the hostess was the absolute best. She was very pleasant and accommodating. With 16 guests, we were able to sit in a quiet area where we did not have to worry about disturbing other patrons. AWESOME! Now due to COVID, many restaurants have been short staffed if they can even stay open. Unfortunately, this was the case. There was only one bartender for the entire restaurant, which caused errors and long wait times. There was also only one server, Morgan, who handled things pretty well considering the circumstances.
As far as for food, I started with "Meatballs", "Louisiana Blue Crab Cake" and ate some of my mom's "BBQ Gulf Shrimp Bruschetta". Out of the three, the crab was my favorite. The lemon butter sauce went so well with the lightly fried crab. The fresh arugula salad on the side was a bonus. The Bbq shrimp were a classic, however nothing about it screamed bruschetta. The meatballs were my least favorite. They were smothered in the "Sunday Gravy" way too heavily, so much so that it took the taste away from the actual meatball.
For our main courses, they were all pretty good. I ordered the "Gulf Fish Capri'. The fish was seared very beautifully, the broccolini was the best, perfectly cooked, and the lemon-caper butter sauce complemented the crawfish and crab well. My date ordered the "Grilled Filet Mignon". The steak was cooked at the right temperature, but the garlic butter roasted potatoes were the star of the dish!
Other than a few lukewarm dishes and inconsistent cocktails, overall everyone enjoyed themselves.
