When CPD vehicles were passing back and forth without stopping by Tommy's, I should have gained a clue that this place wasn't "lo mejor de lo mejor" in the neighborhood.
They recently went under a new management. The remodeling works done on their interiors and exteriors made the entire restaurant more inviting and enhanced the visual appearance. I had a high expectation based on the pictures I've seen on some of their specialties: Mother-in-Law, El Jefe, Chilanga, and Chilango, but I felt the executions on our orders today had a plenty of room to improve.
The "El Jefe" burger failed to "own" it like a boss. The ingredients definitely had the leadership qualities (pepper jacks cheese, chipotle mayo, and avocado slices). However, "los empleados para el jefe" needed some serious developments. The lettuce was soggy, which caused dilutions on other components. In the others, the entire team had a dire urge for a big corporate visit so that everyone can tighten up and increase his/her productivity.
Hubby's "Mother-in-law," or I guess she is equivalent to my own lovely Mama J. had a similar dilemma as what "El Jefe" experienced. Hubby commented that he had no regrets on trying this out for the first time, but he would probably opt for something else in the future.
Nevertheless, the price-points on their combos are quite reasonable. For $13 and some change, we had two (2) combos that came with fries and unlimited pop for dine-in patrons.
I might give TOG another chance since it's relatively close to me. I really hope I would be able to change my mind.
