Best ramen in the city, get the tonkotsu with pork broth

Google
Top of the line Ramen place. Great for meat eaters or vegetarians. I recommend that you come in during slow time since the seating is limited. They have a great drink selection, options for vegetarians, and the food presentation was incredible. You order at the bar or front door so it’s not table side service but you’re still expected to tip which I don’t agree with. Overall great spot for small group and large bowl ramen!

Google
The food had GREAT flavor, I’m craving it after having it. Highly recommend for introverts who wanna go out to eat by themselves, they have a digital order kiosk at the front, and boxes available so you can take what you don’t finish home without having to ask for one. I came in, sat down, ate, and dipped. 10/10 I’m 10000% going back, the portions were big and the food was very satisfying. Thank you!

Google
The food here was fantastic! It was really nicely presented and tasted delicious. In particular, the ramen broth was light, but flavorful and the fried squid was really tender, but everything we ordered was really good. I can't wait to go back and try some more of their dishes.

Google
Highly recommend. Delicious and HUGE bowls of ramen! Pictured is their seafood ramen and it is packed with tons of protein. Price matches what you get compared to other places I’ve been to. Shop interior is small and reminiscent of ramen places I visited in Japan.

Google
Tomo Ramen is delicious. This restaurant was a treasure find. It is a small cozy ramen spot that can get crowded fast. Very popular! Seat was interesting. There's a long table where you may be sharing with othe guests. And for the less social butterflies, there are smaller tables too. The service was fast and the staff was nice. I do recommend a visit toTomo Ramen. Street parking but there are plenty of shops around.

Google
This place is amazing!! The service was great and we got our food super quickly. Everyone was very friendly. The food was phenomenal and probably some of the best I’ve ever had! It is a little bit pricey but more than worth it. So so so delicious this is my new favorite restaurant and I will be back here every time I visit Portland! I highly recommend the chicken teriyaki bowl, it was amazing! Pictured below.

Google
An excellent and cozy spot for some delicious, hearty and affordable ramen! 🍜 the portion sizes are quite generous so make sure you come hungry! The staff are friendly and helpful. Definitely arrive outside of their busy times as it can be quite the wait before you get a spot (especially with larger groups).

Google
My quest for a perfectly charred, sweet, savory unagi bowl has finally concluded after visiting Tomo Ramen. Seriously great. Seating is interesting, it's a comfortable sort of cramped that I found pleasing.

Yelp
Another meant to go to one restaurant but it was unexpectedly closed so went here randomly next success story! I got the Next Shoyu which is chicken shoyu broth with a fried chicken leg, quail eggs and sliced chicken. It was wonderfully satisfying. Sake was served under a small candle to keep it warm. Squid leg kara age don was very nice. I'm a fan and will be back! Oh really interesting ambiance and vibe. It's a little crowded reminding me of Asian street market seating but not an issue unless you have a big group

Yelp
Enjoyed a meal here earlier in the year on a drizzly afternoon. The restaurant is on the smaller side and you'll have to get lucky with street parking. Once inside you'll be treated to some great customer service and delicious food. The entire menu sounded great but settled on the miso ramen. The broth was great as were the tender slices of pork and quail eggs. I also split an appetizer of agedashi tofu which was a nice surprise. This is a place I'll definitely be returning to in the near future!

Yelp
I knew from the touch screen order pad that I was in for a treat at Tomo Ramen! You order at a touchscreen as you walk in, get your ticket, and seat yourself in the plethora of chairs in the dark, red-lantern strewn main area. Drink menus are at the tables and seats! I got an absolutely delish bowl of ramen! I loved the spinach, the pork was super tender and cut thick, and the quail eggs were so fun! The sides of ginger, garlic, and chili oil were also great to experiment with different bites. Super wonderful place!

Yelp
Great little ramen spot!! Completely self service, you order at the machine. Food came out really quickly and the ramen was delicious. It's not very spacious. We had 5 people so we had to sit at the bar, a little hard for conversations. Overall a good spot if you are craving ramen alone or just with a friend!!

Yelp
Very good place to go and is a unique experience. Seems like they are busy a good amount of the time. I liked the broth and the pork chashu may be the best I've ever had but it felt like something was missing to put it over the top. My girlfriend's veggie ramen dish wasn't as good as mine.
google avatar

Yelp
A more authentic ramen experience with ordering done at a kiosk like some ramen houses in Japan. Service is quiet and efficient much like a ramen house in Japan. Food is generous in portion and doesn't disappoint in the flavor.

Yelp
Came here after a friend recommended. It's very tiny, with a ordering device at the entrance, and if you're lucky to find seating quickly you grab it so you can eat inside. We came on a Saturday evening so of course it was pretty packed but we luckily found a spot while we were waiting for our food. They only have one vegetarian option so that's the only item I can review on. While I thought the broth was absolutely delicious I found some of the toppings slightly random and not necessarily appealing (mostly referring to the spinach). I did enjoy the tofu nuggets they tasted very chicken nuggety to me but there was also regular tofu in addition. Just seemed like a lot of tofu.... Anyway if the toppings appeal better to you I recommend checking it out. Also the serving sizes are massive so come hungry or expect to take some home. Nothing wrong with either!

Yelp
Never been to Japan, Tomo Ramen felt like what I imagine the ramen shops are like there. Not recommended for parties larger than 3, this space is very cozy and efficient. The tonkotsu ramen is massive and comes with ginger, garlic and chili to adjust flavor to your liking. The quail eggs and the pork with perfectly seared lines were the highlights. I was happy to have leftovers. And the karaage chicken was so dang delicious, too! The playlist while dining was early 90s top 100; which made this unique dining experience feel pretty relaxed.
google avatar

Kiara Mae S.

Yelp
Very yummy ramen. The space is a little tight and can get busy during dinner but the food is worth the wait! The broth was very flavorful and the the tempura was so crunchy and perfectly cooked. Definitely worth a try if you're in the Hawthorne area!

Yelp
I don't have much of a ramen yen, but my oldest son really does! One of his two favorites is Tomo. His favorite is the beef ramen. I don't know if that has a tradition in Japan, but does that matter? Not when it comes to taste - this is so hot that not only my oldest son, but even the youngest, who doesn't looove ramen, loves Tomo's! It is nice because my 14 year old feels comfortable eating alone in the restaurant. I've had nothing but nice servers and helpful interactions. The only downside is when you have hungry kids and have to watch someone fumble through the mandatory computer ordering system.

Yelp
This cozy spot with limited seating was an absolute delight. You order immediately at the kiosk then find your seats, could be a communal table or at the bar seats that line the entire space. Portions are massive and so flavorful. Alcohol is ordered at a separate counter. Be patient, quality takes time and this space is busy for good reason. Cannot wait to return to try everything on their menu!
google avatar

Yelp
Vibes are great and so are the portions! I would lean more towards a 3.5 star. When you walk in, ordering is self serve on a tablet. Seat yourself and the staff will bring your food out to you. The seating area is very intimate and best for groups of 2. I don't recommend bringing a large group here, cuz ya'll prob won't be able to sit together. Taste wise, the food was 3/5 for me, but the big portions and presentation definitely make up for it. The ramen comes loaded with toppings, so you definitely won't feel ripped off. This personally wouldn't be my first choice for ramen (although I don't know if I even I even have a first choice for ramen in pdx) but I wouldn't be opposed if a friend suggested it.

Yelp
This might be the best ramen in Portland. It's certainly the best broth. Tomo is a tiny little shop on Hawthorne that you wouldn't notice at first glance, and when you walk in you're met with a list of 6 broths with their ingredients and a kiosk to place your order. This place is tiny- I repeat, tiny- so don't plan on coming with more than 2-3 people and expect to sit in communal dining along a row of seats. The place is cute, though, lots of art work and Japanese decor to enjoy while you await your GIANT bowl of delicious ramen. I ordered the gya (beef) and my boyfriend ordered the braised chicken. We also got the bacon wrapped rice as an app. Every single item was 10/10. The broth is so rich and complex and everything is cooked to perfection- I truly don't know how I had crispy pork belly that remained crispy until the end of the meal despite sitting in that glorious broth. We either ordered really really right, or everything on that menu is perfection, and based on the crowded set of groups of 1 and 2 eating other dishes around us, I am convinced it is the latter. We didn't order the Karage, but it was incredible looking too. Run, don't walk!

Yelp
*To go order* Honestly my new favorite place to go to for ramen! the Spicy Seafood ramen is highly recommended if you love seafood! My mouth is watering just from typing this hahah. We also ordered karage and chicken skewers, my partner says it's the best karage that he's had so far The inside is small and limited space but there is outside seating!! They're a bit busy but worth the wait, go check it out!

Yelp
This place was fantastic, at first I thought the prices were a little high but when I saw what game out I was blown away. My seafood ramen came out in an actual cast iron cauldron 6 inches deep and the size of a dinner plate. It was FILLED with all kinds of seafood in larger amounts than I have ever received anywhere for $20. I mean clams, several different types of mussels, a whole softshell crab, a giant shrimp, a crawfish, several large large pieces of calamari, several quail eggs, 5 sheets of nori, I mean there was so much in there I can't even remember all of it, by the time I was done eating seafood I had a massive bowl of ramen noodles and various vegetables remaining and a cauldron of broth. It was so good and so much food. 100 percent worth the price. My wife's chicken ramen literally had 4 whole chicken thighs in it, absolutely ridiculous quantities, we were gonna do other stuff afterwards but we had to go home and sit down for a while it was that much food. Without a doubt, we'll be back.

Yelp
So much better than I expected! Located on Hawthorne, this place can be easy to miss among the other delicious restaurants, but it is truly a gem. Walking in, you run into a kiosk where you place your order. Their menu is very extensive with so many different kinds of ramen that I've never seen before. After ordering, you seat yourself and the staff brings your order out to you. The decor of the inside of the restaurant is dimly lit, beautifully decorated, and has a very nice ambiance. My boyfriend and I ordered the agedashi tofu, seafood ramen, and a spicy tonkatsu ramen. Something that I loved about this spot is that the kiosk had so many options to customize your order; you could very easily add or remove something from your ramen, as well as change spice level. The agedashi tofu came out and the tofu was so so delicious. I absolutely loved the sauce that it came with--very flavorful, but light. And the tofu itself was crispy. When the ramen came out, my boyfriend and I were astonished. Portions were huge, and it came out so beautifully presented (The seafood ramen was definitely photo-worthy). Between the two ramen itself, the tonkatsu ramen was better. Good cuts of meat and rich broth. The seafood ramen was good and had lots of nice seafood, however, the lobster was really REALLY dry and made the dish a bit disappointing. Overall, I would definitely come back but only get one to share (my boyfriend and I took about half of each of ours home).

Yelp
Wow!! Not much to say. NOT disappointed. Very delicious. The pork in my bowl was amazing.

Yelp
overall: 4/5 food: 4/5 service: 3.5/5 ambiance: 3/5 tomo ramen is a cute spot, but not a spot for conversing it seems. i came with a party of 3 on a cold evening, and at a good time (there was a lot of people lining up after we entered the restaurant). there's a self-ordering kiosk at the front of the door, so we ordered from there, took our receipt, and sat ourselves. first impressions of the interior: cute decoration, but dark and a bit tight. we sat facing a wall next to each other so it was hard to converse and felt a little bit rushed to finish our meal. i got the tonkotsu miso ramen- the bowl was huge! a generous portion of noodles, and i like how they used quail eggs as a topping. this was something unique that stood out to me. the pork was also on the thicker side which was a good plus too. broth was rich, and the noodles slurped up very well. overall a lovely meal to warm up! your typical better than average ramen (7.5/10)! service wise, the people working seem very nice! food came out in a timely manner (mine ended up coming out like five-ten minutes after my friends' bowls came out which isn't too bad in retrospect). there was a little food left on my ladle from the previous customer, so i flagged down a waiter and they kindly exchanged it for me. only thing is that we felt rushed to leave throughout our meal- which. i get, as they probably want to make room for new hungry customers. overall a solid spot :).

Yelp
Found this place when walking around, I was a little skeptical about the prices at first but the portions more than make up for it. Having not eaten anything at all for the day, I still couldn't finish my bowl. The presentation for the ramen and appetizers are very nice, and the curated aesthetic they have feels very cohesive and is full of personality. They are also very generous with the meat, this is by far the most protein I've ever gotten in a ramen bowl.

Yelp
Came here on a Monday around five and there was plenty of space to pick a place to sit and eat. The DIY menu was pretty straightforward and the pictures were helpful. I loved the feel of the place and the interior decor. Even though we came for ramen, the pictures of the various side dishes looked so good that we ended up also ordering fried potstickers, agedashi tofu, eel skewers and karaage chicken. I ordered the tonkatsu miso ramen, and my partner ordered the beef ramen. As soon as we sat the staff brought us water, I asked if we could order beer, and they said no, but told us we could order beer at the counter. The food: all the side dishes were SO good, particularly the eel skewers. The potstickers were deep-fried, not pan fried, which isn't what I would've chosen, but they were still quite tasty. The agedashi tofu had a nice crust on it, and the dipping sauce it was served was absolutely delicious. The karaage was juicy with a salty crispy crust, and the eel skewers were so tender, and had the perfect amount of sauce on them. All of the side dishes also came with a very fresh salad underneath with carrots, radishes, cucumbers, and greens. We ate every last bit of salad. After how good the side dishes were, the ramen was a bit disappointing. As other reviewers have said, the portions are huge (especially when you've already feasted on so many appetizers!), and they come with a nice amount of toppings, like spinach, bamboo shoots, garlic, ginger, bean sprouts, which I appreciated. It was the taste and smell of the broth (both the tonkatsu and the beef broth) that I didn't really care for, my best guess is that they boil the bones at too high of a temperature, releasing some undesirable attributes. Also, the chasu was just okay. It had a nice enough flavor, but was by no means tender, and my partner's chasu had a hard piece of edge fat, the kind that can't really be chewed. Not a big deal, just something you'd think they would cut off before cooking it. Additionally, this place uses quail eggs, which normally I wouldn't mind, but they are overcooked to the point that they were chalky and just not something I ever want to eat again. Also, TMI, but by the time we got home, my partner had to go straight to the bathroom. I felt totally fine, so it must've been his beef ramen that hit him hard. I don't think I've actually ever seen him react to food before, so this was a pretty surprising. Lastly, this is possibly the least friendly staff at a Portland restaurant that I've encountered in a while. I don't need people tripping all over me trying to make my visit better, but these people didn't even reply to our multiple "Thank you"s when they delivered our beer or any of our food. I noticed the same with other patrons. Not even a nod or a smile, none of the staff. Not sure what the deal is with that, but they do make some really great appetizers! I would come again for the appetizers and beer, but would not order the any of the ramen. I was stuck between deciding on a three or four stars, but between the ramen, the food sickness and the staff, I went with the three.

Yelp
I really enjoyed Tomo Ramen! Currently on a mission to try more Ramen places in Portland. I found this place to be a very cozy hole-in-the-wall type of place. It was cold outside but steamy and cozy inside. Seating is probably limited on a Friday or Saturday, this place is on the small side. We went on a Wednesday night and lucked out when two people were just leaving. I got the Tonkotsu Miso ramen with extra pork. The ramen was yummy, and I really appreciated how much pork came with it. At Afuri (my regular spot which I really like), extra pork means one super thin slice of pork on a side plate. Here, I got what seemed like double pork for $3. I wouldn't compare the broth and noodles to bowls I've had in NYC or LA, but I thought it was great for our area. Any depth of flavor it could have benefitted from were made up in volume and toppings. So many bamboo shoots!! The staff was nice and did a great job dodging through the tight spaces of the restaurant to provide good service.
google avatar

Jacqueline C.

Yelp
Good god the portions are huge! Ok, the inside is super cute and I'm a big fan of the order and pay at the kiosk then pick a seat. Less talking the better in my opinion. I ordered the Tonkotsu Miso ramen and my husband had the seafood ramen. Broth was rich and the noodles were perfect. I guess the only thing I would change is the quail egg. They look super cute in the bowl but I'm partial to a soft boiled egg in my ramen. I love a rich orange yolk. We also ordered the fried oysters.... They were amazing.

Yelp
Nestled in the heart of Hawthorne in Portland, I stumbled upon a hidden gem that captivated my taste buds like never before. The spicy seafood ramen at this cozy eatery ignited a delightful frenzy of flavors. Upon arrival, the tantalizing aroma of the simmering broth beckoned me, promising a harmonious blend of spice and seafood. The first spoonful transported me to a world of delight. The broth, infused with a medley of garlic and spices, tickled my senses and provided a pleasant warmth that intensified with every slurp. The seafood medley was a feast for both the eyes and palate. Generous portions of succulent shrimp, tender squid, soft shell crab, and fresh mussels danced in the velvety broth. Each bite was a delightful adventure, as the seafood acted as a conduit, soaking up the essence of the broth and delivering a satisfying mouthfeel with every bite. The ramen noodles were cooked to perfection, offering a firm yet comforting texture that mingled harmoniously with the robust flavor of the broth. To my surprise, the other garnishes and toppings elevated the dish to new heights. Hidden beneath the plethora of seafood, the refreshing burst of greens and earthy aromas provided a pleasant contrast to the spice. While the spiciness was not overtly overwhelming, there are options while ordering to customize your bowl and add additional toppings. The kiosk was easy to navigate and order if you plan on paying with a card. In conclusion, the spicy seafood ramen is a must-try for any lover of bold and vibrant seafood flavors. It's an indulgence that combines the briny treasures of the sea with an exhilarating spice profile, creating a symphony of tastes that will develop on your palate.

Yelp
So this place is pretty cool. It's on Hawthorn but neatly tucked away in between shops so you might miss it if you weren't paying attention. It's a smaller restaurant where you order at the kiosk up front and choose a seat. We ordered the calamari, tonkotsu and spicy tonkotsu miso ramen which did not take long to come out. The calamari was crispy yet had a chewy delicious bite to it. The ramen broth had deep flavors. I liked the quail eggs but I do wish they offered a soft boiled (chicken) egg option. I really enjoyed this place!

Whitney G.

Yelp
Hit the spot perfectly! So, so good. Generous servings, delicious broth, yummy meat. Definitely recommend

Yelp
Incredibly delicious and great portion size on the ramen. I'll definitely be back. Seating is limited so that's something to keep in mind if you're going with a group. Cozy ambiance.

Yelp
Drinks: - N/A Food: - The Tonkotsu Ramen was good. The dish comes with 3 accoutrements on the side (chili seasoning, pickled ginger, ginger if I remember correctly). The broth was pretty rich, but wasn't rich to the point where it gets tiring to eat. The bamboo shoots were good, but cut too thinly for my liking. I'd prefer them be in bigger chunks for more of a bite. The spinach was an interesting addition. I didn't love or hate it. Overall a pretty good pick for ramen enjoyers - The Karaage was okay. The portion was large which was nice. The breading wasn't super crispy, and the chicken didn't quite have a nice satisfying bite that I was hoping for. It was too soft for me, but I imagine others might like how delicate it is - The Chicken Skewers were good. The flavor was good, didn't have quite the charcoal/smokey flavor I was hoping for but it wasn't bad. Honestly I felt like I liked the side salad more than the actual skewers. I took this home and had it for leftovers with rice the next day and that was good Ambience: - The inside is very dark. No seriously the walls are painted black - The prints on the walls are fun to look at and I think, some of them are old Japanese films - The lighting is warm due to the red ribbed lamp shades - The dark room is contrasted with plenty of decor pieces that are bright red which makes the place pop a bit more Overall: This place is small and intimate. It's not too loud so it's a great place for a date. Hawthorne in general has a lot of things to do so enjoying a meal here and then going out to walk around is a good date idea. Honestly with some of the sides, I enjoyed the salad more than the actual side itself. This place is on the pricier side, but the portions are huge so factor that in. Chances are, you're gonna have to take some home if you don't come in with a huge appetite

Yelp
Love the vibe ~ Hawthorne in the wall especially for evening nudos & drinks. Do not like the service ~ minimum effort by the gal waiting our table. Could easily become all self serve and not have to deal with the lack of deserving tip. Love the spicy seafood ramen ~ piled on goodness, but the trade off is almost no broth. The whole soft shell crab is the highlight. Appetizers ~ Karaage tasty, skip the tofu nuggets. Unique decor but needs a whole shop deep clean from bugs & dust.

Yelp
Very cute and quaint ramen restaurant. It's self seated and decorated with Japanese pop culture. Staff is really energetic and attentive. The ramen was delicious. Broth was hearty and flavorful. One thing that stood out from other restaurants was how tasty and good quality the chashu was. Would come here again.

Yelp
Honestly, the best ramen I've ever had in Portland 0.o Hands down, it's amazing. Look at that chicken leg. What place is gonna give you that leg without charging you massive bucks? I love how they give you a great amount of toppings as well! It's hard to find a ramen place that gives you a decent amount of toppings so this was perfect! The flavors were impeccable and the broth was savory! Everything came together beautifully. Also, the ambiance was cozy and the staffs were very nice & helpful. I would definitely come again :D
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Cute little space. The karaage was super tender and perfectly fried. Ramen was ok. Good flavoring and really big portion sizes. Not the best ramen in town, but good bang for your buck!
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
The place is cute, but not much else stands out. The karaage was like eating a rubber band. The ramen wasn't bad, it just want anything special. Worst of all, imo, was the dead-eyed almost downright rude server. She really seemed to hate her life more than she hated us, and we were model customers. Didn't ask questions, didn't ask to bring us anything other than our food, did nothing to warrant any attitude. We were very polite, and just nothing. No acknowledgment whatsoever. It was just unnecessarily uncomfortable. I don't think I will ever return.

Yelp
Drove by this place while driving Uber and added it to my yelp list. NOT. DISAPPOINTED! We will be back! I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen - 5. Great flavor, not too salty, portion size was huge, the pork belly had great flavor and accompanied with garlic, dried ginger, fresh pickled ginger and some dry chili for spicing it up if desired. Niece ordered the Braised chicken ramen. 4. Great flavor and the chicken included was moist and tender. Only dislike was that it was pretty salty. Also accompanied with the additions on the pork ramen. A friend ordered the chicken shoyu-tori ramen. 4. Again great flavor, the chicken was awesome and this one was served with the chicken quarter which was juicy and tender, easy to get off the bone. Would definitely order again and maybe request the Tonkotsu broth? As an appetizer we ordered the steamed Gyoza. 4.5. Great flavor, would prefer the sauce on the side. The staff was awesome and the ambiance of the space is fun and communal seating.

Yelp
Possibly the best ramen in Portland. Super favorable broth and a quaint seating arrangement. Street parking. Friendly staff. Enjoy.
google avatar

Bri W.

Yelp
Ambiance was super cute, a dark and vibey little nook. We ordered the Shoyu Tori chicken ramen, Tomo's ramen, and the gyoza - all of which were great. The broth on both of the soups were super flavorful and well balanced. I tend to favor tonkotsu broth, but this one was just a *tad* bit too sweet for me, but my boyfriend loved it. The Shoyu Tori was sooooo good. The chicken leg was tender and flavorful, and the broth was delish. Recommend stopping here if you're looking for some solid ramen!

Yelp
This ramen place has huge portions, lots of add ins and very attentive and accommodating service (especially since we came with 2 toddlers). We enjoyed quite a few apps but would say the asparagus ends are very tough for the asparagus bacon skewer and the rice cake in the bacon rice cake skewer is a bit dry and tough instead of chewy and qq. My parents gave the spicy (and it is spicy!) seafood ramen rave reviews and they are tough critics! Nice ramen spot on Hawthorne.

Yelp
Overall dining experience was pretty good. I do like the big touch screen at the entry was to order (reminded me of the smaller restaurants in Kyoto and Tokyo). If you prefer a personal touch, you can order at the counter. We spent about $40, not counting tip, for 2 bowls of ramen and 2 soft drinks. Both ramen bowls had a LOT of minced garlic. They were tasty, but if you are not a fan of garlic, you may want to opt to leave it out of your bowl. The ramen broth was tasty and the noodles were the perfect texture. The chicken and the pork belly (tonkotsu miso ramen) were a tad underseasoned, but cooked well. Nothing that would make me not come here again.

Kristen C.

Yelp
I'm always on the lookout for a good noodle place and this place exceeded my expectations. I had stopped in here for dinner before heading over to the movies. My go-to is usually a spicy ramen, but decided to give my iron stomach a rest for the night. I did add the chili oil to it, but it wasn't overbearing. I'd absolutely come back here when I'm back in Portland.

Yelp
Horrible customer service! When we sat down he threw our cups at us as if we were a inconvenience to him and then proceeded to act rude the whole entire time. If it wasn't for paying customers you wouldn't have a job and seeing a recent comment it sounds like we are talking about the same tall blond guy. It gave me second hand embarrassment seeing him interact so rudely with other customers but overall the food was good but won't be coming back.

Yelp
Located on Portland's bustling SE Hawthorne, Tomo Ramen is a super cute ramen house that is the perfect stop as you explore the boulevard. They offer many different types of ramen as well as great appetizers and drinks. You can definitely tell this is a popular spot, combined with limited seating, this caused the wait for food to be a bit long. However, the food was well worth the wait! Everyone was so kind and ensured everything was great!

Yelp
I ordered the Tonkatsu Miso Ramen. Thick slices of chashu that look like they've been finished on a grill. Medium-sized, wavy noodles cooked just a bit past al dente so that they get a little too soft before you finish your ramen. Sturdy, slightly peppery broth. I ordered my ramen spicy. It wasn't too spicy at all, and luckily, extra spicy seasoning was served on the side with both fresh and pickled ginger. Three hard-boiled quail eggs instead of the typical chicken egg, two sheets of nori dried seaweed, some menma marinated bamboo, spinach, and bean sprouts. Enough food for two, but there are soup containers readily available for when you inevitably take half your ramen home! Dark and cozy interior with black walls, black furniture, and pops of red everywhere. The people were very nice.

Yelp
Great service and amazing ramen! You order from a tablet rather than waiter! It is very convenient because you don't need to wait for anyone to take your order! Ramen was flavorful, broth was rich and creamy! Exactly how I like it! Surprise is that they serve quail eggs rather than chicken! If you don't know benefits read on that! Ambiance is "lost in Kioto streets" very inspiring and nostalgic. Would I come back? Definitely!

Yelp
I don't know if I was just hungry but this was the BEST RAMEN i've ever had! The taste was fenomenal. I walked in and was greeted by the sweetest lady, she showed me how to quickly order on the big screen by the door. Loved that it had photos to show you what you are ordering :) I got the Gyu Beef Ramen, it had sliced beef ribeye and Chashu Pork belly so you get the best of both worlds! Then, grabbed a seat inside, the ambiance was dark and cozy, I felt like I was in Japan with the cool art and community seating. Definitely coming here next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious beef Ramen. Just the right kind of spice and large healthy portions.

Yelp
Chicken Karaage 5/5, easily one of the best chicken karaages I've ever had. Side salad is a nice touch Tonkatsu ramen/Toko ramen 2/5. Despite what the reviews says and never being to Japan myself, I don't think this is what ramen in Japan taste like at all. Broth has have any depth of flavor and chashu is not tender with lack of flavor. One thing I did like is the noodles, great texture. Service is great!

Yelp
Tomo Ramen is perhaps the closest to an authentic Japanese ramen shop I've ever been in. While I've never been in an authentic one, this is what I'd imagine it being like. Dim, cozy lighting, a compact, personal space, and foliage and cute decor strewn around to create a culturally accurate Japanese atmosphere. While the food is most important, the environment does so much to help a place like this feel special. And it definitely is. The food is great. I got ramen which came in a massive bowl, in a wood tray, with extra sauces on the side if you choose to add them. Quail eggs are included too which are not common from what I've seen but they're great in the soup. The braised chicken ramen is fantastic which very good broth. Honestly, it's one of my favorite little spots I've found. Check it out.

Yelp
Ahmazing! My husband and I have been regulars of the previous Shoku Sushi for many years! The seafood ramen is sooooo good! I'm going back tomorrow for the spicy one! I adore the owners, the atmosphere , and service. I realize they are short handed right now, and hiring a few positions. I'll bet they are wonderful people to be employed by.

Yelp
I love this place. The people that work there are so kind (shoutout to the woman pouring sake with the most radiant smile, she's the grandmother energy that will save the world) anyways, the ramen portions are very large and the flavors were on point, and the fried chicken rice bowl was delish. I'll definitely be venturing back in soon.

Yelp
Great little Raman spot. Staff is attentive, but the Raman is the star attraction!!!!
