Nachos, flautas, and other Mexican offerings served in a laid-back eatery that's BYOB.
"Tonalli is a new place, but the Pennsport BYOB is quickly becoming one of our favorite spots for tacos, nachos, and Mexican pizza covered with salsa. The pizzas here lean NYC style, with a lighter, crispier base and a blistered crust that’s never too chewy or hard. We like the El Patriota pizza, but the Al Pastor pizza and adobo-spiced shrimp tacos are the standouts. Grab a seat at the outdoor picnic benches or in the friendly yellow dining room and enjoy your feast among hungry groups of friends and families." - alison kessler, candis mclean
"Tonalli is a newer place, but the Pennsport BYOB is quickly becoming one of our favorite places for tacos, nachos, and pizza covered with salsa. The pizzas here lean NYC style, with a lighter, crispier base and a blistered crust that’s never too chewy or hard. We like the Al Pastor, but it’s the El Patriota that we think of often. Each slice is sprinkled with ribeye steak, poblano peppers, mozzarella, red onion, and sauteed radish. You can grab a pizza for takeout here, or grab a seat and stuff your face surrounded by plants, Mexican plates on the wall, and a yellow dining room full of people doing exactly the same. "From the stacked nachos and thin-crust Mexican pizzas to the al pastor, this Pennsport BYOB will please just about everyone you're related to. The casual dining room pumps an upbeat house-meets-Latin playlist, but if it’s nice out, snag one of the roomy picnic tables out front. " - alison kessler
"We first went to this Pennsport restaurant for a taste of their al pastor. And while the pork at this laidback BYOB is great, it’s the stacked nachos, Mexican pizzas, and adobo-spiced shrimp tacos that will keep us coming back to Tonalli. A deep house-meets-Latin bass soundtrack plays inside the sparse yellow dining room, but it’s as family friendly and first-date casual as they come—especially out front at the wooden picnic tables. You’ll want to split (at least) one of the thin-crust pizzas, which are topped with everything from salsa verde chicken to refried beans. But it’s the al pastor, with red salsa pork, pineapple, and cilantro salsa verde that you’ll want to have all to yourself. Pineapple-on-pizza hive, stand up." - Candis Mclean, Alison Kessler
"Pennsport’s Tonalli makes ordering difficult, and that’s not because of the service (which is friendly and prompt). It’s because choosing between the Mexican pizzas, stacked nachos and huge entrees seems impossible. But we’re here to tell you—get the shrimp tacos. The adobo-spiced jumbo shrimp are packed into housemade corn tortillas and topped with onions, cilantro, and crunchy radish, and are a standout in a very crowded, very delicious field.
