If you are looking for truly outstanding tonkatsu in Tokyo, Tonkatsu Akira is an absolute must-visit.
Just a short 5 minute walk from Shibuya Station, this tonkatsu specialty restaurant offers an experience that perfectly blends high-quality ingredients, careful technique, and a welcoming atmosphere.
Today I ordered the ヒレカツ ("fried pork fillet"), and it was simply incredible. The pork was unbelievably tender and juicy, with a natural sweetness that comes from the premium Abel Kurobuta pork sourced from Kagoshima. The breading was perfectly crisp and light thanks to the careful double-frying technique in rice oil, creating a beautiful contrast between the crunchy exterior and the delicate, flavorful meat inside. Paired with their homemade sauce, Okinawan sea salt from Uruma, and fresh rice, every bite felt thoughtfully crafted and deeply satisfying.
The staff were also wonderful — kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Even during a busy time, they made sure everything was comfortable and explained the menu with patience and care.
The interior is another highlight. Rather than a traditional tonkatsu shop, the restaurant feels stylish and modern, almost like a small Western-style bistro. The clean, elegant design makes it a comfortable place whether you are dining alone, meeting friends, or enjoying a relaxed meal after exploring Shibuya.
From the exceptional quality of the food to the warm service and refined atmosphere, Tonkatsu Akira delivers a truly memorable dining experience. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves tonkatsu or wants to experience one of the best pork cutlet meals in Shibuya.
I will absolutely be coming back. 🍽️✨
