The Best Of The Rest: 28 More New London Restaurants We Loved This Year

"What with the bad luck of Supa Ya’s first restaurant opening coinciding with the beginning of the pandemic, the pop-up found a new location in Dalston to serve their excellent cult takes on ramen. Expect big bowls and winding queues outside on weekends." - jake missing, rianne shlebak

Had a great meal here with colleagues on a Thursday night. We had chicken wings and prawn katsu for starters and then most people had ramen and I had more starters with bang bang style cauliflower. Service was excellent. We were served by Maryan who was friendly and helpful throughout and served with a smile which was nice. The food came out relatively quick (but it was passed the evening rush) and the food was both tasty and hot. I’d say pretty standard in terms of its flavouring which is why I gave it an overall four stars. It just wasn’t fine dining but it was very good. Portions were hearty but everyone finished theirs. Shows they are thinking about things like that. The place has great decor. We were in a booth. Was comfy. I would definitely go again. Service was strong and the food was decent.

Stopped in for a late-ish Saturday dinner — I didn’t have a reservation, but I was dining alone, so they were able to find me a cosy spot at the end of the bar. (Was occasionally a tad difficult to flag down a server, but I enjoyed watching the cooks prepare dishes in front of me.) I ordered the (classic) tonkotsu ramen, which was really good. The noodles were authentically chewy, and the broth was very rich and savoury without being too heavy or oily. The sliced chashu was tender and juicy. Portion size was healthy and I think reasonable for the price point. I would be keen to come back to try some of their other dishes (the katsu curry looked very tasty). Would definitely recommend!

We made an impromptu decision to go to Tonkotsu in Shoreditch and what an unexpected delight! Mary-Ann was our waitress and reminded just what excellent service looks like. Great personality, great recommendations and made the whole experience one to remember. I came in feeling neutral and I’m definitely leaving with a smile due to the food but most importantly the exceptional service. Definitely worth a visit!

I sat at the bar next to the kitchen. Got to chat football a bit with Miguel and Carl while they made delicious Ramen! Went for the holiday duck special. Super tender duck, super tasty. Marianne was a ton of fun. Good vibes, good laughs, good ramen! 😋

Great spot with nice service and very tasty ramen. That crunch on prawns or katsu chicken is real and delicious. Vibrant and loud-ish during dinner but I can also imagine calmer lunch pace. Will definitely be back. PS What got my attention, they are offering £30 festive menu for 3 course adventure

We were served by Maryan. She was so nice and such a vibe. She was really attentive to us and our needs all night and she had a great attitude too. Even offered to take pictures of our group at the end which we really appreciated. The food was also really filling and good we enjoyed both the main ramen dishes and the sides.

Tonkotsu Shoreditch is a truly vibrant and welcoming spot that delivers on its promise of outstanding, authentic ramen. The kitchen excels in crafting deep, flavorful broths—the classic Tonkotsu Ramen, with its rich, porky base and perfectly cooked, thin noodles, is a must-try. Beyond the exceptional food, however, what truly elevates the experience here is the service. The entire team is attentive and friendly especially Sammy, creating a warm, cozy atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. This outstanding level of hospitality is clearly set by the leadership, and the manager, Gifty, is nothing short of amazing. Her attentiveness, warm demeanor, and genuine willingness to ensure every guest is well cared for are often highlighted in customer feedback, making a meal here not just delicious, but genuinely delightful. If you're looking for fantastic ramen served with the best service in Shoreditch, this is the place to go.

I come here quite often for lunch because it’s worth the money and honestly really, really good food every single time. The quality never disappoints, and it feels like you’re getting way more than what you pay for. I tried the Chicken Katsu Curry for the first time and it was AMAZING. Perfectly crispy chicken, rich curry sauce, and just overall so satisfying – definitely something I’ll be ordering again. And just to clear up something I’d seen floating around, it’s not free – I checked with the staff myself. One thing I really appreciate here is how helpful and fabulous the staff are. They’re always friendly, attentive, and happy to answer any questions – especially when it comes to allergies. Most of the menu doesn’t contain nuts, but there are a few items that do, so I’d definitely recommend asking the staff just to be safe. They make the whole experience easy and reassuring. Overall, this place is a gem. Delicious food, great value, and consistent with both meals and service. I 100% recommend it to anyone (just make sure to double-check if you have allergies). You won’t regret it!

Yelp
Lovely casual little place. I had the prawn ramen which was delicious . Staff were super nice too. Not too busy and didn't need to have a reservation.

Yelp
Great food and place overall! Gyoza was good, slightly under-seasoned for my preference but juicy and crisp. I liked the Tonkotsu chili they have at the tables though to use! I've had a lot of ramen in my life and this one doesn't necessarily stand out but it's not subpar either. I really do appreciate that they offer a small size though so that way you can still get a good taste for the ramen but have room for other dishes on the menu! Curry was great and I was surprised at how much I liked the fried courgettes, I feel like most times they are too soggy but these were perfectly crunchy! Drinks were solid as well. Service was great -- not one dedicated server, everyone checked on us and were extremely polite. Atmosphere is laid back and casual, so its a nice spot to come in later in the evening for quick solid bites! Would come again! **they gave us complimentary sake when they found out when we were on our honeymoon! So sweet!

Yelp
I was so excited to try a new Ramen place in Shoreditch and came here when they had just opened their new location. When we placed our order, we were told that several ingredients were not available (why not tell us when giving us the menu?), so we ordered something else. I wasn't too impressed by either of the 2 Ramen we had, and the service just wasn't great overall. I have to say, there are too many other good Ramen restaurants in this area for me to return to this particular one.

Yelp
A new branch of Tonkotsu opened in Shoreditch and we were very disappointed. We ordered Tonkotsu and Tokyo ramens and both lacked flavour. Particularly the latter was very bland. The only nice thing about them was the pork. The service was a disaster. We asked our waitress not to put pork scratchings in Tokyo Ramen. After she went away, she came back to tell us the stock was pork-based (in reality it was chicken based). It became clear later when it arrived without braised pork. Obviously she asked the chef to remove both pork scratching and braised pork. So we asked the other waitress to bring us the braised pork but she took the bowl away and our original waitress came back to see what we needed. We told her the braised pork was missing , but she didn't know it was supposed to be in, so we showed her the menu. A few minutes later, it came back and the noodle was overcooked. There are other tastier tonkotsu ramen restaurants in London, so don't bother with this chain.
