Google
My favorite breakfast stop in the area. There’s nowhere better for a loaded-up bagel sandwich. Tony Baloney’s is such a gem. Edit: it is also my favorite lunch. You’ve gotta try the reuben.

Sweta Basundhara

Google
This little deli has some good sandwich options. I had garden burger which was delicious. The ingredients were super fresh and the roll was toasted to perfection. I recommend this for a quick lunch.

Holly Christian

Google
Tony and the woman working the cash register are so sweet and nice. The food is delicious and well priced especially with the serving sizes. I recommend the veggie burger on sour dough roll!

Nuria Navarrete

Google
Delicious sandwiches. I was surprised because of the outside appearance of the neighborhood but I loved it and would definitely keep coming back.

Google
No longer has a deli: no sandwiches, etc. Just a convenience store now.

Google

Google
Tony is Baloney! They don’t even make sandwiches any more and their phone number is wrong! Very disappointing

Tammie B

Google
Staff was courteous, but VERY concerning that person making the food not only was NOT wearing a mask, but NO gloves either.

Yelp
No longer makes sandwiches so I didn't try but wanted to add a review so someone doesn't go there expecting one. There are some premade ones in the fridge like vending machine ones. It's a corner store with liquor and cold beer, frozen dinner items, drinks, wine. The cafe moda across the street has pastries, bahn mi sandwiches, empanadas and breakfast sandwiches. The owner is nice. It is a smaller grocery store so won't find fresh veggies but you can find a quick dinner if you don't want to wait in that hour long trader Joe wait for a frozen entree. It also has shampoo, hairspray etc.

Yelp
i want to go visit this great restaurant where i haven't been in years! i really want to visit with my good friend Kamal there too. I miss him! Peter Veilleux 510-409-5858

Yelp
FYI, this spot doesn't do sandwiches anymore. He said it's too much business and doesn't want to deal with all the extra work. There are cold ready to go sandwiches in the fridge like the ones you would see at Target. At least he's honest.

Hereos Never Die ..

Yelp
Best tuna sandwich, ate here from 2010-2012. Sad to hear the deli is gone, delish fresh food.

Yelp
6/30/2020 Quarantine Day 106 I came here with my boyfriend on his lunch break to grab some food and he suggested we go to Tony Baloney's. Tony, the owner, is super friendly and nice! Here's what we ordered: 1. Rubuen sandwich (his) 2. Chicken pesto sandwich (mine) Both sandwiches were delicious, but I really enjoyed the chicken pesto more than the rubuen. I feel like the rubuen sandwich was too meaty, whereas the chicken pesto had more variety in taste. The sandwich size is just perfect, you don't feel super full and you aren't still hungry. The only downside would be parking I think. During the weekday, this area is pretty tricky to find a spot, even during quarantine. I had to circle around a few times and all I could find was a yellow zone to park. But overall, great service from the owner, and the sandwiches are tasty.

Yelp
Tony makes the most amazing sandwiches. My go to order is a chicken pesto sandwich on a sourdough roll with provolone. I get one of these at least once a month, and they never disappoint. The owners are also some of the sweetest people ever. An absolute neighborhood staple in SOMA. The place itself is cozy, and it can get a bit crowded. I like to call to order ahead of time to avoid that. Go here! Thank me later!

Yelp
Sandwiches are not available. Update your Yelp. Didnt appreciate wasting my lunch walking to Toney's only to find no sandwiches.

Yelp
The deli is no more. It was too much work for the owner. He turned it into a market/store. You want a snack to go. They got frozen stuff, sodas chips. Too bad to see him close up the deli. Thank you for the deli in the past sir. G

Yelp
Helped me manage jet lag symptoms with variety of ginger ale, crackers and soup. Kind fellow from Palestine;)

Yelp
Just visiting SF, walking into Tony Baloney on the way to get a burrito in Castro. I checked the price on the bottom of a poppyseed muffin for a price. I placed it back on display, walked to the back, saw the deli counter was closed, and upon exiting the store was stopped by the cashier. He yelled, "you took that muffin". I stopped, confused, thinking maybe he was offering it for free, seeing as it was 7:30pm. Nope. He continues to exclaim that he saw me steal the muffin. I got a little irritated and asked "are you kidding[...], but what if you're wrong." He continued and did not stop his verbal abuse. I believe I was targeted and discriminated against because I'm gay. The owner/manager/coworker did not come to my aid other than say "you can go". This is most likely an anti-LGBT establishment. To top it off, compete the humiliation and remove all doubt, before leaving I voluntarily emptied the complete contents of my "Express" shopping bag. Shaking the bag and it's contents: shirt, pair of shorts and book, so as to dramatically dislodge any lifted pastries. Tldr; falsely accosted of shoplifting, horrible behavior on behalf of the employees, anti-gay!

Yelp
Solid deli in the SoMa area! I've had Tony Baloney's on my bookmarks list forever, and was finally able to stop by recently. They are a deli/convenience store, and you can purchase your drinks, snacks, sandwiches, etc. in just one stop. I called in my order, and it was less than a 10 minute wait for an order placed around 5pm on a Tuesday. My order was ready when I arrived, and I tried their Hot Pastrami Sandwich on Dutch Crunch (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tony-baloneys-san-francisco?select=T2waaoOxn9Zbr-_z17SQXA), which was really good! This sandwich was sizable, and enough for two meals for me. The pastrami was flavorful without being too salty, and I loved their Dutch Crunch. I only wish there were less pickles, since they added a thick layer; however, this was still a great sandwich overall and I would come back to check out their other sandwiches. Parking in this area can be difficult, but some street parking spots are available.

Yelp
This is one of the few local businesses that stayed open the entirety of covid and they adapted to what their customers wanted. They opened up a Mini market with all of the essentials and cut back on the bigger items because the lunch crowd was slower. Now that the covid rules have been lifted they have fully stocked store and delicious lunches to go. Stop by and support this local business the people are so friendly and nice I just had the chicken pesto and it was delicious a giant sandwich for $10 versus $20 at deli board. They also have the best selection of chips that I've seen if you're in that chip kind of mood very unique flavors and types. Tony has been here for over 30 years hes seen all the ups and Downs of the city and hes struggled through it and still has a great product so we should all support those who have the pride to keep the business going in SF.

Yelp
Super nice owners and delicious generous portions. If you are in the area, definitely stop by to get a sandwich. Tony (the owner) is usually there and he always greets everyone with a smile. Yummy sandwiches!

Yelp
Tony Baloney's is a classic deli spot right in the heart of SoMa. It's not too far from the Civic Center BART/MUNI station so I suggest getting to this place via public transit. It's fairly small, so I wouldn't suggest a huge group going... but it's good for a few people/just yourself. The owner will take such good care of you. He's very generous, it feels like his service makes everything so much more worth it. Now for the food: Pesto Chicken Sandwich (4/5): I liked this sandwich, it hit the spot, it filled me up, but it did just that. I wasn't amazed by it, but the dutch crunch bread was solid, the pesto was great, and the chicken was good too. Only reservation I have about this place is the hours. Since I work full time, the only time I can really go is on Saturdays since Sundays are closed. So, that's the only part that's pretty unfortunate about this place. Check out Tony Baloney's!
google avatar

Yelp
Tony is a staple for this neighborhood. An absolute must for anyone living in SoMA. If you pop in during the week chances are good you will see the man himself. He is super cool and happy to chat about all things.

Yelp
Fantastic local deli in SOMA. The food is really fresh and the prices are quite reasonable. The owners are very friendly and make you feel welcome when you visit their store. If you're in the area I highly recommend visiting. I usually go with a breakfast sandwich on a bagel or the egg salad sandwich on Dutch crunch.

Yelp
For over a year, the boy tortured me with descriptions of Tony Baloney's chicken pesto sandwich. (It was really close to his office, so they went all the time.) Finally, it was my turn to try! We both got it on Dutch crunch bread. Here's ma humble opinion of the sando and this place: - the chicken & pesto were delicious!! I would have just gotten a bowl of that and been happy. - the sandwich, overall, was just okay - the pesto kinda got lost among all the other fillings (I'm guilty of going nuts with toppings) - Very friendly people working (we talked the entire time they made our sandwiches and after paying) Logistics: - street parking right out front and nearby - good amount of seating inside

Yelp
Little sandwich shop, with lots of options! It's a very small place with a handful of tables to eat at. But the process/line seemed to move flawlessly. You order your sandwich, then pay. By the time you're paying, your sandwich is ready! Very little wait time! I ordered a Ham and Cheddar sandwich on Foccocia bread. Bread was soft and fresh, with toppings piled on! Loved the pickles on the sandwich, could have asked for more if I would have known before!

Yelp
Add Tony Baloney's to the "short list" of solid sandwich places in this general area - (list includes Ted's Market and Grandma's Deli). I went there for the first time recently. I had the "NY Italian" sandwich from the preset menu. No description of contents, so I simply ordered it on blind faith. Not a problem. It was legitimately GOOD! He lightly griddled the roll and the combination of meats - all of which were yummy. The cheese was a nice thick slab and it melted slightly. The whole leaves of romaine lettuce was a nice touch. The completed sandwich was a hefty size, tasted delicious and was well worth the 10 bucks. 100% I will be back to try more items on their menu.

Yelp
Tony Balony's little corner market and sandwich shop. It's clean. Easy location to find and park. Family owned and good sandwiches with a Great man. Tony himself works tirelessly to make sure you get everything you ordered and more. From the beet salad to the home made macaroni salad and 5 bean salad . Fresh rolls. I'm eating the meatball sandwich as I type this. Great flavor. Lots of cheese. The pesto chicken is killer good. Reasonable prices. And The Man. Tony is so personable. I want him to adopt me. So a 5 star experience

Yelp
The service was nice but the sandwich was a little overwhelming and the muffin was not too my liking either. The Dutch crunch was good though but that's all I can really say. It's a convenient option near the area though and they do have a wide selection!

Yelp
I live a block away and this is one of my favorite spots. The deli sandwiches are delicious and the service is incredible. I'm gay and have always felt respected and accommodated.

Yelp
Had a breakfast sandwich with egg cheese and bacon and it was gooooood, the egg crispy on the sides. The americano coffee surprised me, strong quality coffee, perfect punch to start the day. The place unpretentious, the food is what counts

Yelp
The corner sandwich shop is alive and living on life support in SOMA, and this one is just a stone's throw away from my building. Fortunately I have no desire to cast stones. They are well stocked at lunchtime, and the club sandwiches are a particularly generous size if somewhat moist from the microwave blitz they give to the chicken or turkey meat. They have your usual assortment of mayonnaise-based salads, as well as decent Caesar and green salads. Hot food is available...usually a good sign unless you live on the floor above the place. The lasagna is pretty good, and they usually offer a daily soup, though I notice they run out pretty quickly. The service is pretty standard with barely a trace of a smile from either the sandwich preparer or the cashier. But if you are looking for a convenient and edible lunch at 7th and Howard, this will do in a pinch. There are plenty of tables, but I usually get mine to go. BTW...the sign outside spells "Tony Baloney's" with an 'e', while the Yellow Pages listing leaves it out. Proofreading is apparently not a big deal to the owner. FOOD - 3.5 stars AMBIANCE - 2 stars SERVICE - 3 stars OVERALL - 3 stars

Yelp
One of the best Deli's in San Francisco. Excellent sandwiches and fresh Middle Eastern faire. I would lunch here on a regular basis, partly because it was only 3 blocks from my office and was a wonderful alternative to some of the overly crowded and somewhat overpriced options on Market Street. Sorry to hear what happened recently. The owners are some of the nicest people around. Hope they are ok and good the perp was arrested.

Misha T.

Yelp
Had the chicken pesto sandwich and it wasn't bad. Not quite as large as the it looks in the pictures on here but I felt like it was a sufficiently large sandwich by most estimations. I found it to be a little slow, but I think there might have been a large office order ahead of me.
google avatar

Jennie S.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot to get a good Americano, expresso or cappacino without the long lines. They have soy milk and almond milk. Great prices. A good deli/ market/ selection. Exceptionally friendly service.
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
Pros: Good variety Open early Decent prices Cons: Flavors weren't anything out of this world Slow service My gorup came in and yes, we did order about 5 sandwiches together, but the owner/workers made the next two customers' orders before ours because they only had one sandwich each. So we ended up waiting forever for ours to me done. I got the chicken pesto sandwich and it was good, but like I said nothing out of this world. Could have used more chicken perhaps.

Yelp
Based on the past reviews of this hidden sandwich place here in San Francisco SOMA, I drove to get a Turkey Club Sandwich. I was under the impression that the Turkey would be fresh roasted Turkey and it was pressed deli sliced Turkey with no flavor. Except for the bacon and lettuce and onions which I tasted, the Turkey was at the bottom like a forgotten item. I was charged over $15.00 for this sandwich and I simply could not eat it. I gave it to a homeless person. No more Tony Bsloneys for me.

Yelp
I just love this little neighborhood spot that I think has been around forever! Highly recommend the pesto chicken sandwich or their BLT. Inexpensive and quick. Really friendly staff that really care about their clientele. The owners recognized me and memorized my order in just a couple of visits!

Consuelo M.

Yelp
The owner Tony is rude wants to serve you whatever he wants. He is beyond rude. I ordered a simple plain bagel with cream cheese, and he gave me sesame. I told him about it and he was rude he yelled at me and said there was nothing wrong with sesame. No there isn't except that's not what I ordered and I don't like sesame! never going back! also he didn't wash his hands.

Yelp
Best sandwich I've had in SF. Not sure why. I think they just have really good ingredients that are actually fresh. The guy at the front seems grumpy at first but I think that's his personality (SF seems to do that to you over the years I can imagine). I think he's actually a nice guy. I loved my food and will always come back here when in SF.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid sandwich shop. Had their pesto chicken sandwich a couple of days ago and it was pretty good. The chicken was moist and the sandwich was loaded with the fixings. I originally wanted it on focaccia bread but they they ran out already when I was there, which was about noon. Asked for no pickles but they gave it to me anyway but that's ok since we were ordering 6 sandwiches to go at once. There seems to be a devoted lunch crowd as the line got pretty long while we were waiting for our order. Mr. Tony Baloney himself, I'm assuming (since everyone says that he's the guy behind the cash register) was funny and very generous. He knew we had a bigger order and would be waiting a bit longer so he told us we could help ourselves to their self-serve coffee. AND he even threw in a bag of cookies to go along with our lunch, which were delicious. (It was those shortcake-like cookies displayed inside the plastic case by the cash register. Coated with coconut and had this caramel or jam filling in the center.) I was told their reuben sandwich was really good and as I am a total fan of reubens, I will make sure to try that out the next time I am back!

Yelp
I think I may have found the best pesto chicken sandwich in SF.. Don't believe me? There's only one way to find out.. I was sick and tired of walking to Subway in the SoMa area and came across this Deli close by. This place just made my lunch hour break so much better. Goodbye sad tuna 6 inches! Hello chicken pesto heaven! I was shocked to bite into a moist, warm piece of white chicken. I glanced over to the lady making my sandwich and I was glad to see pieces of crisp romaine lettuce with freshly sliced tomato going into my dutch crunch. I like how they toast their bread on an actual grill. Each sandwich comes with: mayo, deli mustard, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, red onion and +$1 for cheese. I thought all these condiments would be, as Future or Lil Uzi Vert would say, "too much sauce!" But, it all tasted well together!! Next time, I know to ask for extra deli mustard because it tasted immaculate when paired with pesto. Please support this little mom & pop deli. They also have mediterranean plate options on the menu if you're not feeling the American sandwiches.

Yelp
Great environment. Went to visit for the weekend and Tony treated me like family, i'll never forget this place! Much love to you Tony I always keep my promises
google avatar

Yelp
Went to sign a document for a total of 5 minutes and decided not to get anything. We had a very rude table cleaner tell us this is a business. The place was totally empty! I can see why so I ordered a cup of coffee just to be nice on the way told them to keep it. I live right around the corner and would not go back! :(
google avatar

Yelp
Today I had the Garden Salad which comes with mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, avocado, all mixed in with a vinaigrette. It was a HUGE portion for only $6! The greens tasted fresh and the vegetables were yummy. Also, they didn't skimp on the avocados! I must warn you that the vegetables are already coated with the dressing, so don't dump more in there if you're not too into it. I didn't get to try their sandwich today but it looks like it's a hearty portion that will keep any hungry heart satisfied.

Xanadu K.

Yelp
Excellent, tasty, freshly made sandwiches, loaded with toppings and best value in the area. Husband-and-wife owners have worked there for decades and are friendly and welcoming. I read a local news story that says the owners were assaulted by a shoplifter in their own store. Let's show our support for these hardworking small business owners during these difficult times.

Bridget B.

Yelp
Love the egg sandwiches and Tony and his wife are so sweet. They really make the neighborhood feel warm.

Yelp
Visiting from Seattle, one of the local lawyers recommended this place. Unassuming place, didn't expect much. Had the Turkey Club on Rye with avocado, WOW. Probably the best sammich I've had in recent memory. Great banter with Tony, super personable, made the lunch experience great fun!

Yelp
About 2 blocks from my house... I was looking at my lunch... a hot pastrami and roast beef with avocado, thinly sliced spear pickles, pepprocini and tomatoes, oh and lettuce on wheat (such a bad Jew), and I was at 3 stars. Then I took a bite, and immediately went to 4 stars. The reason its not 5 is strictly because of its ability to stay together. A 5 star sandwich should drip, but not fall apart. Right? Wrong... any good NY sandwich should fall apart. But that is if they dont load it with lettuce etc. it falls apart because of the extras. it really should be filled with meat, but the Boars Head is so expensive, they load it up, and you just deal with the other stuff you allow them to put on it. They use Boars Head Meats, and the flavor was outstanding. They also have the contracts with all the courts, so if you get called for Jury Duty, this is probably where your lunch will come from. If it's any consolation... Photo in the Gallery. Delicious and they have been here 18 years!

Yelp
Anyplace where 5-0 hangs out must be good. You know how they love the shoot the shhh and chill on their lunch hour. When I walked in, there were at least 5 officers chowing down on some of Tony's sandwich creations. I have to say Tony's shop deserves 2.5 stars, primarily for the quick service and the delicious sandwich. Unfortunately Tony, the owner, is not the most friendly shop keeper. In fact after I paid with my card, instead of handing it back to me he tossed on the counter so it almost slid off. Who does that? Don't get me wrong, the smoked salmon sandwich was on point. Filled with ample amounts of sliced smoked salmon, a hefty dollop of cream cheese, capers sprinkled throughout, resting on salad greens and drizzled with a tangy balsamic vinaigrette, it definitely hit the spot! The bread was even fresh and enjoyable on its own. Not to mention my sandwich including chips was under $9.00. That's a big deal in SOMA! The poor customer experience left me not wanting to return though. Maybe next time I can just have someone pick up my sandwich instead.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
Usually stop in here once a week because of the friendly service that makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in! Not to mention great prices!
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Such good value! The sandwiches are huge and very very generously stacked with your meat of choice. I went with the Reuben on Dutch Crunch, and it was perfectly cheesy meaty goodness. I would have liked an eensy bit more sauerkraut, but it wasn't a big complaint. Sandwiches run around $6 or $7, but they are big enough for two separate meals. An extra $2 gets you a side salad or pasta or soup. Lots of space for reading or studying, and it's only a few blocks from Market. Will be back!
google avatar

Ami S.

Yelp
My friend and I both got severe food poisoning after eating turkey sandwiches, here. I had to miss two days of work and feel like my insides are dying for a $7 sandwich. Please be sure to examine the food here before you eat it.... In case if management would like to make a note of which day this happen to check and see who was working or to check and see which meat or produce was not fresh and should be thrown out, immediately, it happened on April 5th, 2017.
google avatar

Austin W.

Yelp
I came here this morning for breakfast and ordered a hot pastrami sandwich with provolone on a dutch crunch roll and I was very happy with my sandwich. Generous amount of pastrami, and very tasty overall. Ready for me in less than 5 minutes and for around $6, I'm pretty sure you'd have a hard time finding a place that can match Tony's. I'm not sure why people have issues with service as the owner was super nice to me, and the service was very speedy. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Rita A.

Yelp
I'm not sure how this place got its ratings. The last 2 times I've been in here I actually walked out empty handed. Their display is pretty dirty, food does not look fresh, flies in the display and even their donuts which are not made their are old and squashed and do not look appetizing. The first time I came here a year ago I had a chicken avo sandwich that was actually good and thenI have had a Reuben here a while ago and to be honest it had so much dressing it was super soggy and awful I couldn't eat it. So I'm not sure what happened by they have definitely gone downhill. The service isn't too friendly either unless your a known face. I agree with my fellow yelper looks and feels grimie and just has a strange atmosphere to it.
